having read some of the newsletters, I'd believe that Ron Paul would think that way then; however, getting mad about it would mean getting mad at too many people; remember trent lott?

of course, she's understanding enough to accept that "times are different now, grandma."

things don't change; the new generation (neo-cons) hates "islamo fascists" and they'll keep dropping bombs on muslims in their display of righteousness. ron paul is definitely divorced from that.

Is anyone worried that there are insufficient safeguards to protect the actual paper ballots that will be recounted? Bev Harris of blackboxvoting.org suggeted that those responsible for fraud would likely try desperately to cover their tracks by any means necessary? Any reassuring info about this?

I think all of the candidates have their smears and only the best can turn it around like RP did.

None of the other major agencies ran with the CNN story - perhaps because they couldn't spin it against RP and thus didn't want to give him more free publicity. ;-)

They handled this quite well in my opinion and so did Wolf Blitzer. The video they uploaded cuts out all of that crap 'reporting' and goes straight to Paul defending himself. Wolf is very fair to Paul in the interview, and lets him get his whole message out.

I have to disagree that this is good news overall, though. Ron Paul's defense was great, and will help keep most of his supporter base from turning on him over this (although several have already abandoned the Paul campaign), but I think it will make it much harder to recruit new RP'ers to the campaign.

If we want this to work at all in our favor, someone needs to take this video and turn it into an anti-racist ad on youtube highlighting the most memorable and heavy hitting parts of what he said. The theme of the video should not be negative like "Ron Paul isn't a racist" or "Ron Paul debunks racism theories," but instead it should be positive in the vein of "Why Ron Paul is the anti-racism candidate." We have a chance to get more minority supporters that way, rather than simply running damage control.

Anybody have any other ideas?

Please, when was the last time you heard Dr Paul use the words
"Hip-Hop"? I don't even think he knows what that means. When you have a candidate like Dr Paul with a perfect voting record that stands up to his positions today, a quiet, humble and compassionate man what else can they do to try to stop his campaign?

Dr Paul's only mistake with the newsletter was that he doesn't realize how evil some people in the government and media are. If you aren't an evil person you don't expect others to do and say evil things. The only think Dr Paul is guilty of is being intelligent, compassionate and having high values which maybe makes him naive as to how evil, cruel and viscious other people may be. I always believe what goes around, comes around and Dr Paul will be vindicated somehow, maybe even by being elected our next President.

It makes me almost cry to see this kind of garbage on the front page of a major media website. The positive accomplishments are unmentionable...Yet the good doctor finishes 4th and 5th (yeah right) in the first two primaries and he's in the freakin' headlines for 20 year old nonsense? This is just crazy. What makes me want to cry is not the attempt to defame Dr. Paul, but that our country is not free at all.

FWIW - I'm black and I've met and spoken at length with Dr. Paul. I've converted quite a few blacks already to the light by showing his videos. He's no racist.

Have you seen Ron Paul's response to that? This is just free press, and a great chance for people to see that only libertarian thinking can end racism. That seeing people as individuals instead of collective groups is the ONLY way to defeat it. You must fight ideas with ideas. You can't poll how much we're dominating in that race!

I applaud Ron Paul for not cowering over in fear of these relentless attack dogs in the media.

It'll be good for the campaign to see Ron Paul in a fighting mood. There's a lot wrong which need a good kick in the pants. I hope he takes off the gloves in tonights debate.

Now paul gets to win over even more by talking about blacks being persecuted by the justice system.

This helps motivate people to research him. Once they do, they will know is true message and be supporters. If nothing else, at least it motivates current supporters like myself to donate even more to him because we know the truth.

The base of Ron Paul's supporters will not be shaken, and he gains media attention.

I beg to differ. I think it's very good. RP put the fire out and let's move on. Consider ourselves VERY lucky that Wolfe Blitzer had the fotitude and courage to give RP an audience to dispell these blatant charges. Especially in the hours before this debate. If he is asked about it, he can now refer people to the CNN interview. This may force Faux News not to mention it at all. They know RP will refer to CNN.

The media never asks Ron Paul about the issues. They always try to attack him. Well, this time, they are attacking him in a way that allows him to raise issues that will be important to voters in SC and Michigan. He is being given a platform to prove that he is the only one, republican or democrat, who will actively do something to change racist policy in the united states.

because of this, people are going to find out who dr. paul really is now.
