Use the word 'occupation' instead of 'war' !

I hope we all understand that there is no real 'war' going on in Iraq. The 'war' ended within a few days/weeks of the American invasion. Now for 5 years there has been 'occupation' of Iraq and the violence is representative of the unrest against the occupation.

We all know that , right!

But the current dialogue in the media, on the forums, in the debates continues to be ..war or anti-war. I say we replace the word 'war' in our conversation with the word 'occupation'. Let us just call it what it is!

Why?

There can be few defenses of war but there can be almost none of occupation. People have been educated to think of war as 'tragic' and occupation as 'unjust'. So, to make the people wake up and pay attention, the word occupation should be used at every opportunity we get. Imagine, the effect when about 100,000 people start using the word 'occupation' everytime they refer to Iraq, online and in their conversations!

What do you think?

I do believe that

If all the visitors to this website make this change in their use of words, the effects will be tremendous.

So True

I have been using this term for a couple years now. I makes my neocon buddies blush, but think.

It also fits well with our problem with a standing military occupying other foreign countries.

Remind me why we are still have combat troops occupying Germany, Korea and Japan?

The reason we have troops in those countries is because...

..the american populace thinks that we are involved in multiple wars with multiple hostile countries. If they understand that the troops are there to protect our empire, then there will be very little support for this nonsense.

Security for the Plundering ..

I'm sure there are multiple corporations involved but it is pretty obvious that the "mission" of our troops is to work SECURITY detail for the people plundering Iraq.
As former military I am particularly discusted that this is how the powers that be choose to misuse the troops. And I thought things were pretty bad in my day. this is much worse IMO.
Hopefully more people will wake up ...

That is definitely one of the goals...

...might even be the primary goal.

That would be fine

but 'occupation' is accurate and it is just one word.

how about using...

an 'unconstitutional war and subsequent occupation.'

I am completely convinced that

every time a constructive post is placed here, a group of 5-10 members do their best to bury it as soon as possible. The format here needs to change fast.

good reminder.

Occupation and a Police Action!

3:15pm

Our U.S. military are being used as a police force to curb the civil war violence between the religious factions within the country. What does that have to do with defending America?

Let’s not forget about Blackwater security; a mercenary army that is not bound by U.S. law, Iraqi law or UCMJ law! These security people are analogous to the nefarious German Hessian soldiers used by the British during the American Revolution. They murdered 17 Iraqi civilians and have not even been charged by any judicial authority including the UN. No wonder the Iraqi people hate the U.S. occupation!

I am glad

that everyone seems to appreciate the impact this simple change in choice of words can have.

word play

undeclared "war" = permanent occupation = more U.S. bases abroad =
more wasted $$$ = financial enslavement for us to spread "forced democracy"

occupation

Dr. Ron Paul 2008! I have been referring to it as the un-constitutional, illegal occupation of Iraq for several months now when talking to friends and co-workers about the illegal, un-constitutional occupation of Iraq.

Wait a minute, McCain says the surge is working!

Maybe he needs to convince NATO of that.........thay all want this thing over with. What Bush & Co. didn't tell our NATO "buddies" is that we just needed them for publicity anyway. We intend to build the largest foreign embassy in THE WORLD. That way, we can oversee the production of Iraq's resources well into the future, and make sure the right companies get the lucrative contracts............McCain concurs, and of course so do ExxonMobil, Haliburton, Blackwater, Carlyle Group, Giuliani Consultants, inc. and to a lessor estent, the Clinton/Obanma ticket.

Another point

Even Bush said in his State of the Union Address we were close to reaching a point where we could begin to scale back on troops. We've already accomplished much of what we wanted to there. Now, the candidates are just fighting over who will get to look like hero and be in the seat when the troops start to come home. I think it will be Bush honestly. He will start to bring them back before his term is up. Although he may also bomb Iran...

Exactly

When the Dems talk about ending the war, they mean turning it into an occupation. But, it's the same thing. How can anybody call this an actual war... That would imply our enemy has resources to pose a formidable challenge and defend their territory. Erm, they are throwing rocks at us... and fighting amoungst themselves as well.

I see what will happen. Clinton /Obama will bring a wave of troops home. It will be all the news. Then maybe they will bring a second wave back, and be adorned as champions of peace. And that will be the end of it. All the while we will continue to focus on Iran.

Why can't people se this? It seems too obvious

I've been adding....

ILLEGAL, IMMORAL, UNCONSTITUTIONAL occupation.

Excellent point!

I'm glad you brought this up. I believe you are spot on.

Yes! It's an unconstitutional occupation!

I agree with everyone here who says this is an excellent point. So much of politics is about semantics and this is a great way to shift the argument. Also agree with the poster who said we need to use the word "empire" as frequently as does Dr. Paul. Another great word to bring into focus exactly what America has become...Keep it up, everyone! I love this site and all you great Paulites!

Fine

I'll do it. It is like how Dr. Paul says "empire" all the time because it is correct in its description.

truth is...

much of the world sees us as 'empire' too.

Wikipedia page on 'empire'

this one is excellent and informative.

Any thoughts?

I am bringing this up again as I think it might be a very useful strategy.

I used it on a brainwashed

I used it on a brainwashed neocon shill and you know what. It made him lose his train of thought for a moment. This could definately be benifitial.

Yes

This is an excellent idea. Never thought of it in this way. You are correct. If we start using the term occupation it will catch on. Similar to newspeak and politacally correct phrases. I thank you for your input. I will myself start using this term and uncondition myself to the word war. Which is what we have be indoctrinated by the ruling class and the mass media to say.
From this day it will be the Iraq and the Afganistan occupations.

Note

This should be passed on to the campaign. Ron Paul himself should start refering to them as occupations also. War can only be. If congress declares it.
