What happens to the delegates for a candidate when the candidate drops out of the race?

For example if Thompson drops out, are his delegates just not tied to any specific candidate anymore, or how does that work?

This is where

the DVD project could have some impact.....

2 things happen : 1: They

2 things happen :

1: They can keep their delegates until they have met the requirement of votes they are bound for and then become released and can vote for whom they wish.

2: They can release their delegates and the delegates become unbound and can vote for whom ever they wish.

NO delegates after being released can be forced to vote for whom the candidate that released them for any reason even if the candidate that released them endorses another candidate, THEY ARE BOUND BY NOTHING and can vote for whom they wish.

Dr. Steve Parent

I am a former Huckabee delegate

I am a former Huckabee delegate. Shortly after Huckabee ended his campaign I received a call from my states GOP chairman informing me that Mike Huckabee had released his delegates. I CAN DO WHAT I WHAT TO!!!
I WANT TO VOTE FOR DR. RON PAUL !!! I hope that there can be enough (majority) delegates from 5 states to nominate Ron Paul from the floor. It's a long shot, but I'll do everything I can toward that effort.

Please help me in my efforts. Going to this convention is expensive. I could use some help. Please visit my website and help if you can.

Thank you,

Robert (OkDelegate)

Hey do you have contact with the other delegates that were

for Huckabee, and do you think you could convert them(or have they already..committed to another...) Please let me know if you can..

Excellent...

I'm glad to hear it that you will support Dr. Paul. It shows you are an informed and intelligent delegate!

Question, OKdelegate

What made you get behind Huckabee and is he still your preference if both Ron and he were in the race. Have you come into reality as to what he and the others are all about?

Please tell us about your transition. Thanks.

I was never behind Huckabee !!!!

As a district delegate I was obligated legally to vote for the Republican candidate that that majority of my district voted for. My district voted for Huckabee. If he was still in the race, I would HAVE to vote for him in the first round of voting at the convention or face civil litigation from the state GOP . Huckabee was out of the race BEFORE our district convention. Knowing this... I became a delegate because I knew that I would be unbound.
In short .. No transition - always a Ron Paul Republican.

sounds like BS

but the GOP rules are ridiculous anyway, not that they follow them. lawsuits in Nevada and Texas http://fairconvention.org... remember nueces?

thanks for that!!! How can we find out what delegates have

been released? I know Romney sent a letter releasing his to either Utah, or Montana...(cant remember which...) If you know please post..or if not do you know where I can look

great article...does anyone have the #'s of romney--huckabee

delegates and what state they are in?? If so please post..

they're both at around

they're both at around 250-270 delegates.

Rudy and Thompsons delegates,

would support whoever...we need Ron Pauls supporters to help them decide.:)

Historic moment at WA State Convention at minute 4 here!!

his delegates become "at-large"

and are free to support another candidate, although they would be encouraged to support whomever their candidate endorsed
