Think you had a good day helping RP get elected? Beat this ....

I defy anyone to one up me on what I did today to help Dr. Paul.

My story actually begins two weeks ago. While canvassing a nearby neighborhood, I ran across a man working in his yard. I walked up to him, began my standard one minute speech, and right in the middle he yells "HOLD IT!!" I stepped back half expecting him to sick his dog on me. Then he says "You sold me." Seeing the relief on my face, he continued "I've heard some good stuff about him, but what you just said sealed the deal for me."

"Outstanding" I told him. Well, he proceeded to ask me more and more about Dr. Paul's ideas and philosophy, and I just kept rambling on and on about this great man. Suddenly, about 2 minutes later he interrupts me again. "HOLD IT!!" he repeats for the second time. "I'm a high school civics teacher at LHS High. I love your passion. I want YOU to come talk to my kids!"

My reaction?? Well as Ralph Kramden used to say "Hummana ... Hummana ... Hummana". What a great opportunity. Despite having no experience speaking in front of crowds, and being scared shitless, I leaped at the chance. Opportunities like this happen maybe once or twice in a lifetime!

Well I spent the last couple of weeks rehearsing my speech and today was the big day. Turns out he had 6 separate classes of graduating seniors (about 30 to a class for a whopping total of over 180) who are really excited about voting for the first time. The kids, almost without exception, were all open minded and eager to hear a message from anyone who cared to express one.

Now there were certain guidelines that he asked me to follow. First, and foremost, I was not to openly campaign for any particular candidate, but I was free to bring up issues that I thought were important. This was quite fair as far as I was concerned. After all, I wouldn't want some Hillary or Rudy supporter (are there such animals?? I've heard they exist?) campaigning if my kid was in the class.

I spoke to 180 kids, none of whom had made up their minds about who to vote for. Long story short, these kids got their first ever schooling on the Federal Reserve, Constitution, Habeus Corpus, and about 10 other things that only Dr. Paul mentions. Every kid in every class heard me state the quote “What luck for rulers that men don’t think.” When I informed them that the quote was from Adolf Hitler, you could hear a pin drop. I railed about the importance of grassroots campaigning, especially canvassing. I told them about my candidacy for Delegate, letting them know that they would soon be seeing my signs all over the district.

How’d it go? In a word – Incredibly! Better than I ever could have dreamed! After about 5 minutes with the first class, the butterflies were gone and then it was like I was on a mission. I had every kid in every class absolutely stunned with my passion. I must of sounded like a preacher or something. It was like an out of body experience. Every class ended with a spontaneous ovation. After every class, I was bombarded with kids dying to know who I was supporting. The teacher said that he was fine with me letting them all know after school let out.

So picture this. I’m leaving after the last class, and here comes about 25 kids up to me at my car wanting to know the answer. I tell them Ron Paul, and a large number of them said “I knew it, I like him too.” I tell them “Great, then get on board and help me get him elected.” I was passing out Delegate and Ron Paul signs like they were going out of style. 5 kids said they wanted to start canvassing with me! Several others said they would try convincing their friends and parents. I think I’d have to rate this as a pretty good day, wouldn’t you all agree?

Listen up people. The only way we’re gonna win this thing is by pounding on doors and talking to people face to face. Forget about Media bias. Forget about Fox News. We are never going to get a fair shake from them. Until we accept that and move on to what works, we will continue to spin our wheels.

Unfortunately, every story has a down side. Here’s mine. I regret that, due to my entire day taken up speaking directly to a couple hundred enthusiastic undecided voters, I was unable to vote in any online polls today, nor was I able to post my thoughts on Fox’s super bowl plans. In addition, I regret that I was unable to check everyone else’s spelling errors, nor was I able parrot everyone’s thoughts on how Frank Luntz is an idiot. I’m sorry, but I had to make a choice. I hope I chose correctly.

Have a great day all. See you out in the next neighborhood with my new recruits (someone check my spelling on that please).

Awesome

You my friend, are a PATRIOT!
Say YES to Dr. NO

Outstanding!

And the rEVOLution continues.

tough act to follow :-)

tough act to follow :-)

proud

hey, right on.

You should be damned proud of yourself, for speaking YOUR truth....nobody can ever deny or fail to hear a human-being, being real unto him/her self. That is our greatest advantage with Dr. P & each other.

Hmmm...been thinking today about how Our & RP's message must play out to the other people in this country (& world). Do you realize the amount of fear in real change? How programmed we are to think that drastic change will only bring a 'loss' of some kind? There is allot of safety knowing what to expect from Gov, even if it is bondage. The exact opposite is always true, change leads to something better, re-newed & liberated!

Change Leads!!!

It's hard to see sometimes, but the majority (but getting smaller) would rather go along being lead, instead of leading their own lives. That is where their safety is, in illusion.
Our safety, for everything, is in our ability to tell the truth....first with us and then share Freely! It can't be denied.

Anyway, I'm so happy to be in the company of so many who are fully understanding what it means to be Free, Now!
So keep on being real & in your power, it will sway more heads than words.
Thank you.

bless you!

keep it up - our hearts swell with joy

Can't beat it but...

...here's a fun one. One Monday, MLK Day I was out canvassing. Late in the day as the sun was setting and it was getting quite cold, I came across a rather dapper elderly gentleman in a small, neat home. When he found out I was representing Ron Paul, he proceeded to give ME a speech about how impressed he was by Ron Paul's performance on a televised debate. He had only one criticism: he felt Ron Paul should be more assertive in sticking up for himself when interrupted or belittled. He then said the following, "He really knows what he's talking about when he discusses Iraq. I can't even get my grandkids to get along with each other for more than 2 or 3 days when they're in the same house together. I don't know how these other guys think we can force people who have been quarreling for thousands of years to get along no matter how hard we try. It just can't be done."
Then he asked for a yard sign---and for a sign for his barber shop! Then the clincher (for me at least)--he seemed slightly crestfallen when I gave him a blue-and-white "Ron Paul for President 2008" sign for his shop. When I asked him what was wrong, he explained that he really wanted a sign with Ron Paul's picture on it---"Ron Paul looks like someone I'd want for my father and I wanted to show him to my customers."
!!!!! I promised to try to get a friend with a decent computer and color printer to download and print a picture of Ron Paul from the internet and get it to him at his barber shop. Not bad, eh? At least a nice warm fuzzy to end a very long cold day.

good work

more people need to get out and help the cause of liberty

Canvassing + Raffle = Viral Ron Paul!

canvassing tip

I met a fellow RP supporter in Iowa last month (I think he was from Michigan). He gave me some good advice for canvassing that is, I think, a great way to handle things.

If someone says that they support someone other than RP (e.g. Fred Thompson), tell them that Fred Thompson (or whoever their choice is) is your second choice. It makes it seem like you are just one notch away from that individual and perhaps they will consider your position more thoroughly and honestly.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." -John F. Kennedy

Great work!

Great work!

We're in the final push...

...and this is when it's the hardest to hang in there. I can see the supporters of other campaigns fizzle out now.

We have to remain strong, focused and dedicated. And this IS the time to turn off those computers and hit the streets in your neighborhood... at least.

Thats

hows its done

when canvassing...

... now we have an added bonus: Teaching people how much Ron Paul knows about the economy, and that he has *real* solutions!

Only way I know how to beat that is...

If we were to use our Internet Power a whole lot more powerfully. As in "business." One of Ron Paul's main themes is to let the Free Market be the thing that decides and provides, not the government. We have technology at our fingertips today as never before. We've shown enormous power in the Nov.5 and Dec.16 contributions. We can make that an even more powerful and universally helpful endeavor by applying Online Affiliate Marketing to our list of activities.

We can empower ourselves so that We The People can contribute more to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

You had a wonderful day with those kids and I commend you for it

has become remarkably positive the last 2 days. I like this, it inspires and keeps people moving. Let's keep it this way, keep telling these wonderful stories, no matter how we finish today.

"No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal
rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." --Thomas Jefferson

Only takes a few of us to keep this place positive

The Daily Paul can be a source of inspiration...on a daily basis, even. It takes only a little bit of effort from a few regulars here to show newcomers how dynamic a community we represent.

Feels awesome to spead the message...

I had a gentleman call me today to let me know about a bill they are trying to push through in regards to pro choice. The group that was calling was for pro life. He informed me that Hillary has signed this pro choice bill, and I asked him if he would refrain from swearing and only then would I continue listening to him… Joke… made him laugh. He wanted to send some information to my house so I would know who my Senators were so that I would contact them and voice my opinion and ask them not to support this bill. I told him come on… I am in AZ you think I do not know who Porta John McCain is! He laughed again. I told him McCain has to be pro life so that he can draft more people for unjust illegal wars. Now I have his attention! I told him he called my house and I listened to his speech and now he has to listen to mine about Dr. Ron Paul, about ten minutes pass and he said excuse me I really have to get going may I have that website information you mentioned because he sounds like someone I would support. Now that beats the stupid pre- recorded mayonnaise survey that called a couple months ago.

I like that

He will also tell all of his prolife compadres. Viva la revolution!

Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

Awesome!

Just fantastic!

love it, love it! Wish I was in the States to work like you!

For those of you who are searching for the post about his one minute speech, I copied this from below [Note - I saw in my local city paper the other day that Hillary supporters are out & about in the snow knocking on doors & impressing people by doing so - I'm telling you, they are copying RP & his supporters! ]

MDKidd:
One minute spheel is different each time, depending on my perception of the person answering the door. Usually, though, it goes something like this ... "Hi, my name is ..... I'm from the next neighborhood. I was out today to get the word out about a great candidate that you may have not heard of, but who's one of the best candidates in the last 50 years. Ron Paul." Hand them slim jim. "Have you heard of him?"

Almost always, the response is "Well, yeah I've heard of him, but I don't know much about him. I've seen signs up all over about him."

I reply "Yeah, most people say the same thing. It is very frustrating to us supporters of this great man. Unfortunately, his honesty and integrity works against him. More and more of us are beginning to realize that the major media outlets are all owned by big multi-national corporations. And they all have an agenda. If you play their game, you get positive play on their networks. If not, then you get ignored, or worse you get ridiculed. Ron Paul's integrity and respect for the Constitution won't allow him to play their game even if it means his chances at election suffer for it. That's why thousands and thousands of us Ron Paul supporters all over this great country have volunteered our time to take his message directly to the people. That's why I'm standing here today, asking you to check this wonderful man out for yourself. I guarantee you'll never get a volunteer supporter from any other candidate knocking on your door."

And that's basically it. From there I let the homeowner take the lead. If they want to discuss further, great. If not I leave them with the slim jim, a DVD and my Delegate for Ron Paul card. In my experience, I have become amazed to find that about 60 to 70% or more are interested in discussing further.

one of the Best!

one of the Best!

Not a victory for the campaign, but a victory for me

I'm not gonna one up that with anything for the campaign, but I was out handing out slim jims on my campus today and I ran into a girl I'd not seen in a long time. Long story short, I got her number. See, canvassing can get you a date!

Oh man, that is funny.

That's one of the things I was telling these kids. The "side" benefits of canvassing. I was telling them, stop trying to impress the babes as some faceless entity on MySpace. Get all decked out, throw on all your bling, and start pounding on doors. You'll meet someone interesting soon enough, and guaranteed you'll impress them a whole lot more by appearing in person and showing them you're out doing something to save your country, rather than by sitting in your underwear in your basement like some couch potato. Got a huge laugh everytime I mentioned that as an incentive. Hey, I was 18 once.

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

tough act to follow!

tough act to follow!

CAN'T BEAT THAT BUT I'M TRYING!

Signed up as a Precinct Leader - https://voters.ronpaul200...

I called about 10 people in my precinct to survey them (survey & phone numbers provided). My 11th call was a RON PAUL SUPPORTER right down the street! He took half of my list and found ANOTHER RON PAUL SUPPORTER 2 streets away! It's like wildfire!

We're all helping each other out - one is driving us to the houses of "undecided" voters so we can talk to them about what THEY are interested in hearing.

We ARE the media - several are definitely on board. It's fun & really exciting!

Sign up, pick up the phone, and you'll meet some really great people just like us!

Outstanding.

You people are finally starting to get it. This is the road to victory. Talking to people one on one is the best way by far to advance the cause. Fox News can't censor my conversation with my neighbor. CNN can't edit my response to make me look stupid. Forget the MSM. GET OUT ON THE STREETS. We can still win this thing.

If at all possible, though, go to homes personally instead of phoning. It is so much more effective, at least that is what I've discovered in my experiences. I don't know, maybe I'm just lucky and have an honest face or something. In any case, at least your doing something one on one. That is the main thing. Bravo to you.

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

Take it further

Well done. BRILLIANT, in fact. Now, here's a challenge for you to better your own efforts:

Get a written testimonial from the Civics teacher, and use that to leverage yourself into other schools.

Ask the civics teacher to perhaps hook you up with other schools' civics teachers. They all network. He can open doors; leverage it.

Way ahead of ya, buddy.

Already got plans to do just that. Thanks for the encouragement.

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

Oh, so you want to play it THAT way, huh?!

Ok then, I have an even BIGGER challenge for you!

Take your experiences, codify them into a package that can be easily picked up by others, so that THEY can replicate your efforts in schools. It's time to 'franchise freedom'!

This story is nice, but it's not...enough. Once you've done it again, you'll probably have the know-how on how to go about it effectively, and repeatedly, and have others do the same. This can spread across the nation. For each student touched by the message of liberty, they can spread it to their parents, and entire families, over the next 10 months.

And don't forget to keep us informed, along the way!

Once again, way ahead of ya ...

... I am working on a new thread coming soon here that will encapsulate all that I've learned while canvassing. I think you will enjoy. Coming soon to a theater near you .....

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

I'm buying tickets..

I want the whole theater. ;)
Man - I can't canvass. I'm on the otherwise of the world.

YOU sir are FOR THE WIN!

You are canvassing Role Model! Good job.

"Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less. -- Ron Paul, December 17, 2007"

Hands down...you win.

Hands down...you win. Excellent.

highschool rumors

Ron Paul will probably spread like wildfire around that school and maybee others. Those poor kids had to endure years of the public school system pounding socialists ideas into their heads. I'm sure they were happy to hear the message of freedom for once. We need to get as many of the young people as possible, so when they start voting we can continue the rEVOLution for many generations.

YOu win

that is the best news on this site that I have read in weeks. I'm inspired to write some more letters. Thanks and Peace

1 minute speech

Any chance you could post your 1 minute speech?

Already posted back about 50 posts

Please note, though, that I deviate from this all the time based on my perception of the homeowner. After doing it so many times you just start getting a feel for what to say to who.
