We can reach over 5 million people in 4 weeks!
The Texas primary is March 4th. We have located a prime location for a Ron Paul Billboard off the heavily traveled I-35 corridor. The billboard faces North bound traffic and is split into two sections 9x30 and 7x30, it is also front and back which is a big plus. The location is on the upper deck split of I-35, which is next to the Capitol, downtown and the University of Texas. The advantage of using a billboard off the upper deck is that since it's elevated there are no other eye catching objects within view. Another plus is that the South bound traffic will also see it since there are no other obstructions in their view. The traffic bogs down from 7am to 9am and from 3pm to 7pm so people will be at a slow pace or stand still to view this billboard. We will use the top billboard to display one of our designs with 3 key issues and use the bottom sign for the primary date and Ron Paul 2008 in the biggest font to ensure drivers see it. With this location we will not only reach locals but also interstate commuters passing through. The daily commuter circulation is 250,000 so we will reach a large number of people versus the cost of the ads. Urgent we need funding ASAP!
Our plans for the billboard off the upper deck of I-35 fell through. The owner has not been helpful working with us to get this up. He owns the office space and sign above it and he is not a professional billboard company so it has been difficult trying to work this out. He gave us several quotes for installations because he has been unable to reach the contractor that has to use 2 trucks to install billboards. Yesterday he said the installer is quoting $4,000 just for installation and that would send the total over $10,000. The owner still hasn't provided concrete dimensions for the signs so that it can be wrapped correctly without info running off the side of the billboard. I have been talking to him for weeks on and off and now that we are ready to start everything he is acting clueless. We have no confidence in this guy or the installers that would be working on the billboard.
I already had a plan B worked out with a contact at Reagan Advertising for another billboard in downtown off I-35. A prime location has just become available so we can still reach 250,000 daily and it's highly visible with a size of 14 x 48. He sent me info this morning to get this started. The total costs for this is $7,900 for everything for a 4 week run. The only problem is that this company asks for all Political Ads be paid upfront in order to start the process. We are short about $3,000 so if we were to do this we would be fronting the costs ourselves in hopes we would recoup the costs through donations. We can't afford to be left covering that much of a difference, we paid $2,000 out of our own pockets for the South Carolina billboards since we didn't reach the goal and we already signed contracts. We have worked very hard on this and want to make it happen, using a nationwide billboard company like Reagan Ads will make sure this is done fast and professionally .
If we can get a commitment to cover these additional costs and the donations start rolling in, we will sign the contracts today and pay for this upfront.

Color Schemes
I see the "Issues with blue background. Bottom info white background" is winning your poll, although you haven't had very many respondants as of yet...
Keep in mind that dark colors do not work well on billboards - night time is a problem and they tend to get lost in the clutter of buildings and other signs - so black is not the best choice for nighttime. Make sure the important info "pops" off the board so that motorists driving 65 MPH can read it quickly.

Austin billboard design concepts
We have our design concepts for our Austin billboard on our website. The designs are not final and some graphics and colors will be tweaked. The wordage for the billboards are effective in conveying the essence of Ron Paul's campaign platform. The three issues chosen will cover a wide voting demographic in Austin. The design for the commuters on the opposite side of I-35 will attract their eyes with the black&white combination and the word "legalize" in a huge font. Dr. Paul's campaigns foundation is the Constitution, therefore it sums up his platform in two words. Once we have their attention we direct their eyes to the website, phone number and primary date on the bottom billboard. This will be very effective for fast and slow moving traffic across the highway. The Texas primary is open so we could help persuade Democrats, Libertarians and Independents to cast their vote for Paul. The images on this board could especially sway the undecided once they get in the voting booth.

Awesome area
Great Idea! I'm most certainly going to give to this one. We've tried pooling people for OK billboards on i-35 but it never seems to work out. That is a good area and like you said the traffic blows a few times a day through there.
But imagine if you will. The real estate agents around here put out FM transmittors by homes that are for sale. They have a description and pitch set on loop and it just goes and goes and goes. Why couldn't we somehow have "someone" transmitting a well planned out loop for people in that area. Granted if we had more people there could be more "hot spots". You also have the station frequency on the billboard.
Imagine if all the people who were stuck in that area had a good billboard sending them to hear the good doctor speak truth on the economy at a time like this? Just a thought.
