The "average" voter
I was discussing the mentality of the "average" voter with my GF yesterday. It goes a long way to explaining why the old media(love that term) is blacking out Dr. Paul.
First, only 5% of the registered voters actually participate in the primary/caucas process----5%!!! Taht means that 95% of registered voters are "sheeple". By "sheeple" I mean they want to be told who to vote for.
How much of the decision of who to vote for is based on who the "sheeple" have heard of or seen on TV? It has to be a huge percentage. Hence, the old media has virtually erased any mention of Dr. Paul.
The last major media Dr. Paul received was the day before the New Hampshire primary. A conveniently timed rehash of the "Ron Paul" newsletters (which was still on the CNN website yesterday). If you recall, there was much talk about the number of undecideds and independents in NH. I can imagine that someone who had been undecided may have been influenced by the "racist" charges. With inadequate time for the campaign to respond, the result would be voters not wanting to take a chance on voting for a possible racist.
Another result of this tact was a "blowback" effect. It caused an uprising by RP supporters--the most fervant to come to his defense and redouble their efforts. Not a result that the establishment wants.
Here is something I read recently that I see at work here and throughtout this campaign:
"When certain obstructionists become too irritating, label them,, after suitable build-ups, as fascist or Nazi or anti-Semitic, and use the prestige of anti-Fascist and tolerance organizations to discredit them. In the public mind constantly associate those who oppose us with names which already have a bad smell."
Racist, 9-11 truthers (agree or disagree-the old media has managed to give this term a "bad smell"), conspiracy "nuts", white supremacists, prostitutes--all used consistently by the old media to describe RP supporters. I am certain that many sheeple do not past this and can justify not wanting to by associated with such people.
So now the old media has reverted to "ignore" and is doing it very effectively. I would suspect there are those that think our candidate has dropped out of the race.
We must now more than ever, get out and spread the word. I will be going door-to-door in my precinct (and surrounding precincts after that). I will be burning DVD's and distributing them as I do so. I will also be mailing the same DVD's to everyone I know, along with a small RP "packet". I have already contacted a local radio staton to try and get on the air to spread the message. I would have tried to get in as a delegate, but missed the deadline for registering Republican and being a delegate. I hope that anyone that can, will do so.
I've learned more about this process in this election cycle than I had in my prior 43 years. Each state having different procedures and what each means. I had no idea what a "brokered convention" is and now I do. It is still possible to get Dr. Paul the nomination, if that is what we want...and I think it is.
Although I have had the same feelings of let-down that I'm sure many RP supporters have had after most of these primaries/caucases, I will not be deterred. This is too important.
We must all get out and do our part, whatever that means to each of us.
Good luck!!!
Ron Paul for President 2008
