While touring Louisiana before today’s caucus, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul once again proposed eliminating federal income taxes and returning to a gold backed currency to rescue the nation’s economy.
Paul had warned that the current economic crises would develop and has blamed the Federal Reserve for creating it. Paul said, “The Fed has again taken our country into a terrible crisis. Who else is talking about honest money that cannot be printed up at will by DC bureaucrats? My opponents in both parties are all some variety of print-and-spend Keynesians.”

"While the other candidates want to treat the symptom, the Doctor has the cure. He simply has to connect the dots for the average voter. For example, by connecting the 3 biggest issues, the economy, the war, and health care to the elimination of personal income tax and a return to sound money with a competing currency,
we can win the hearts and minds of the American voters.
Put simply, the American Public needs a Reader's Digest condensed version:
a) Bring all the troops home+cut wasteful government programs = elimination of the personal income tax
b) No personal income tax= money to buy your own health insurance
+ save for retirement using the competing currency that will always have value". The KISS theory; Keep It Simple Stupid

When you back the Federal Government out,
it doesn't mean that all services and function of government disappear. It just means that much of the responsibility is shifted to the States to decide. With out the full 100% of taxation going to Washington, where probably half is eaten by the beuracracy, the money goes much further when it's left in the State. For example, if the people of Arkansas wanted to pay their residents on welfare $10,000 per month, then let the Arkansas legistlature pass laws taxing the Arkansas residents to pay the bill. Not likely to happen. The closer you keep the money at home, the more responsibly it will be spent.
Actually, ALL our Fed Tax money goes directly to Fed Reserve...
to pay on the interest on the money they borrow. Our Fed Govt. gets none of it - they have other resources, one I know for sure, is tariffs. But, the Fed Reserve prints the money when our govt wants it - they start charging interest in the worthless, flat dollar, on the VERY FIRST DAY!
Today, every man, woman, and child in the USA owes $185,000 towards the DEBT only! I've heard others say that the true amount is over $1 Million per household.
alaney - I liked your solid explanation of govt continuing to run w/o our fed tax dollars. Might the sate income tax rise - maybe - but at least all that money will stay in our own state!
But once we can keep our own tax money, it will be put back in the economy, not just through spending, but creation of new businesses too! People will be more motivated to take care of themselves and there were be more choices of jobs available!
This would be a good story
if it was reported in a real newspaper. Doesn't the campaign staff know how to get real coverage?
When I woke up this morning at 6 am, a news report on WTAM out of Cleveland mentioned Ron Paul's pro-life statement that he made at the Jane Roe breakfast. Now that was a good news story.

There is life at the end of the tunnel my friends!
Nice idea, needs to address a few things
There are a lot of people w/o jobs. Some are not physically or mentally able. How does this solution help these guys out? What about all those who will become homeless because of the housing meltdown? These are questions that immediately come to mind and I wouldn't know how to answer (but would like to). Anyone?
Remember, Everybody
There are not going to be "tons of people homeless." That is the FEAR, but it is not real.
What we _are_ talking about here is decreasing standards of living, make no mistake about it. Evereything is not going to be "fine." no matter who gets elected POTUS. This has been in the making for at least 35 years, we know that We know it goes back farther than that, but the point is that this didn't start in 2001, or 1987, or 1979. In fact, real standard of living has been going up around the world, but when you add in a debt burden Americans have experienced decreasing real wages since 1979. It doesn't take a whole lot of observation to notice that this culture is all style - and lots of impressive things to look at - but no substance; the trend which accelerated drastically when the currency lost its substance. No coincidence at all.
Just to throw this out there - we don't have to back our currency with gold. Even though gold and silver are many of our pet favorites, for good reason, the real crux of the matter is that the currency needs to be backed and held to tight standards. Gold and silver naturally do this in free markets, but we could use, say, the coal in Montana, or the fresh water in lake Michigan to back our currency just as well - if "We" "Want" to.
Back to the original point: there is not going to be mass homelessness. As people lose their houses, they will be bought and rented out. As the deflation plays over time, people will have crappier jobs and crappier housing, but there will be places to go. If you really look at it, people who are homeless long-term choose that life. And i for one don't fault them for it. Some are crazy or hurt or despondent or all of the above, but some "just" choose to not live in our world. I don't have the heart to criticize them - they've got a some good points and its a waste of time trying to teach pigs to sing sometimes, as we all know.
But people who are used to working and paying bills don't just take to the streets or fall through the cracks as often as should be worried by all of us. Just because we have to sell our cars that we never owned and move into a smaller house or god-forbid an apartment, give up some furniture and clothes. . . doesn't mean people will be suffering homeless.
Now i think that is reasonable and measured analysis, even in extremely bad economic conditions,
but just to take this one step further into possibilities
A lot of people will probably even make nice arrangements squatting. Even though this sounds horrible, and it is, it is not freezing on a city street somewhere. There are tons of empty real estate already. Groups even hook water and electricity up for homeless people today. I have no doubt this will continue. My suggestion, don't live in the city - and if you have to, make plans to go rural
My biggest fear is that the people do just what they have been conditioned to do for the last few generations - when the SHTF, they'll cry "Government, help us!" "Banks! Help us!" and then look at sustainable living as "anti-social" b/c if you can take care of your self while every body else is suffering you are being selfish. When really, everyone should be taking cues and putting more in place to take care of their own selves and their families and so on.
For the record i don't condone squatting on an idealistic level. But if it came down to it, there are miles upon square miles of empty housing in every urban center in this country. I don't have any loyalties toward a system that has engaged in such mal-investment that caused the mess to begin with. No more than is practical and fair. My rights do end where others' begin. But the big players have engaged in fraud and so their agreements are mostly if not entirely null and void. We're gonna have to sort this stuff our as individuals and communities, folks.
Much luv, all
One size does not fit all
One size does not fit all. The physically and mentally disabled would still have Social Security and Medicaid to fall back on. For those without jobs, we would have to rely on the fact that with more disposable income in the system, consumers would buy more goods and services thusly creating more jobs.
i will spend more money
I could promise you that if my income doubled by having no income tax that I would easily buy more stuff. I could easily buy a detroit made car and help those in Michigan.
Elk, that would be taken
Elk, that would be taken care of by charity and church organizations. Amercans are already some of the most generous people on the planet. We give even though we are taxed ridiculously. If we bring home more money we will have more to spend and give to those less fortunate in causes we believe in. Have faith in your fellow citizens. People won't let others go hungry or homeless. We took care of them before the 1964 welfare fiasco and we will do it again.
To those who doubt the Dr.'s official campaign strategy
Pay attention. He's about to win the Presidency.

Just like Wottle.
Dow down 229 on night session
down 148 yesterday AFTER the biggest EMERGENCY RATE CUT IN HISTORY 3/4% and another 1/2 % expected on the 29th.
The Stimulus package will do nothing. 80% of people will pay bills or save it. Only the idiots and rich will spend it.
When your losing net worth in your home and the market while eperiencing the worst inflation in 26 years people aren't to free with money.
There is NOTHING the FED can do. This is the END GAME.
Maybe this scare is what it's going to take
For people to finally wake up to the truths that RP has been saying all along about the wars, Federal Researve, deficet etc.,etc. Even on MSM now CNN/internet an article by Lou Dobs "All Americans will soon have to face a bitter and now obvious truth: Our national, political and economic leaders have squandered this nations wealth and the price of this profligacy has just come due for us all."
Wait, I'm confused.
Why would you want to save before massive inflation? that makes no sense to me, unless you mean gold. It seems wiser to spend. Get something besides dollars, ya know.

You're not confused
You're exactly right.
I would buy gold BEFORE even trying to pay down debt. But only if you have a VERY secure income stream!
