We should come up with a template for the platform. Considering the number of people that we have on this site, it should be easy to come up with some common material that any candidate can access.
It seems like a few people aren't running because they don't know where to start. The grassroots is learning as it goes and getting a lot smarter along the way. How can we exploit this knowledge?
We can easily develop website template running on a common server and a database of generic presentation material such as powerpoints and slimjims.
We have many people who have learned a great deal about the campaigning process, who should be able to help potential candidates get up and running.
We have some great graphic designers and videographers on this website. We could put together some standard graphics that require minor modification for each new candidate.
All in all, I'd be surprised if we couldn't get to a point where a new candidate only needs $10k and 80 hours of volunteer time to get all of this up and running.
Being in a party is really just about infrastructure. We can just throw RP Republican, RP Democrat, RP Libertarian, RP Constitutionist, or RP Green in front of the name. The message crosses all boundaries. Parties are ruining America anyways.
I think it's better to exploit their infrastructure.
assassinate me...I'm afraid. My views on things like pharmeceuticals, fluoride, health issues, etc...not to mention agreeing with Ron Paul on just about everything...yep...I'd be a goner. lol
I have been preparing by running for and serving on various HOA boards. I think we need to form a new party, however - the Jeffersonian Party - which will be true to the ideals that Ron Paul has personified so well. I don't think we can do it within the corrupt GOP or DEM parties anymore.
I do think that Dr. Paul has started a Revolution - one that will change American politics for ever (and for the good).
I've thought about that, but I'm a terrible speaker and writer, I'm reminded of Moses though.
Mississippi looks to be holding elections for both senate seats (trent lott's seat has to be filled, there's crazy law suits about when that will happen, though) in addition to the house seats. I wish I could find someone to support. The folks down here are about as corrupt as they get.
There are a lot of people on here. I do corporate strategy, and I've written presentations to justify $300M projects. I can't afford the pay cut to go into gov't, but I'd always be happy to help put together talking pointsm presentations, and speeches for people.
We should do more than just put a database of candidates. We should also put up a database of people with skill who are willing to help potential candidates win seats.
Every RP candidates should have access to a database of presentations, researchers, web designers, etc that can help them in their race. It should be as easy as pulling off the RP logo and throwing on a personal logo. Each candidate would have to change the presentation to suite their needs, but the more consistent the message, the better.
We should also consider setting up quarterly money bombs. Have everyone donate at the same time with a goal to raise $5M a quarter.
The money can go into a central pool that gets distributed to candidates across the country. If each candidate tries to raise money individually, I worry that they won't be able to be as successful.
If you are indeed living in cold and snowy Michigan I'd love to hear from you! Right now I live in Wixom after having lived in Troy for the past 4 years. Depending on where I live in MI at the time I plan on either taking on Thaddeus McCotter (in Wixom) or Joe Knollenberg (in Troy) come 2010.
I could use all the help in planning my run as I can get!
I won't go into too much detail, but if some things break just right, I will bust my tail running as hard as I can. I do think the artificial label of "Ron Paul Republican" has it's good points and bad points from a mrketing point of view. I think it's very, very important to support the platform that Ron has or we have, but that just gives devicive labels for the competition in an election thereby alienating many people that may be receptive of his mesage without labeling it as such.
California has an arcane rule that you must be registered in your party for one year before you can run as a candidate for congress. I switched to Republican from Libertarian last August to vote for Ron Paul. So I have to wait until August before I can do anything.
"He who exercises government by means of his virtue may be compared to the north polar star, which keeps its place and all the stars turn towards it." Confucius
As long as I remain in the Charlotte, NC area, AND ACTIVE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, either in the 8th, 9th, or 12th Congressional districts within the next 2-6 years. Depends on retirements/other races/etc. Name - Ken Nelson, Charlotte, NC.
If we are serious about this, it is imperative we get involved in our local party structure. We are in agreement on anywhere from 60-90% of issues. If you show that you are a Republican, support them, and mainly BE ACTIVE, when open spots come up, you may be ASKED to run.
This is another reason it was/is important to find active, loyal Republicans involved in the structure who support Ron Paul. In those places, it's a lot easier to knock down the "walls" and show the establishment that we really are all Republicans. This is the case in places like Montana, where Paul had some establishment support.
Coming in and telling good people that they are a bunch of neo-cons, warmongers, and vote riggers isn't going to get you anywhere. Believe me, even Paul supporters turn me off when they start on their "theories". It is much easier to TALK with people about why you support Dr. Paul without launching into tirades about war, war, war, or gold, gold, gold.
Yes, I am a Republican, not proud of that fact now, but I am a Republican and will remain a Republican. I did run for Congress once as a Libertarian, and it's something I'll NEVER do again. I won't submit to "purity tests" and arguments over minute details that really shouldn't matter as long as I'm campaigning on reducing the size, scope, and reach of the government. I want to take back MY Republican party to the party of Taft, Goldwater, and Reagan. My great-grandfather was a Republican mayor of a town in North/Central New Jersey in the early 1950's, and I'm sure he's rolling over in his grave when he hears about today's GOP.
While I believe it is necessary to run for Congress, I see a wider field of influence through the State Legislatures. If we can win the States and restore the balance between the Constitutional Power of the States then we can assert that power on a federal level. The State Legislatures will be far easier to win and then restore Constitutional order and then it will be 50 allies against the power of the federal usurpation of authority.
Now, it has been almost a century since we had the Constitutional system in its proper place in this country and obviously something is amiss. Granted, there were many prejudices that heavily influenced the States and indeed the government in general for decades, but it doesn’t mean that the system itself was the problem only the men who were suppose to be stewards of the system. Now, for the system to work properly, the People must be involved, educated, and active in the political arena…if not then the same thing that has happened will naturally happen again as the People are taken advantage of by unscrupulous political hacks on all levels.
Currently, the States cannot exert any real or meaningful influence or authority over the actions of the federal government, or for that matter any other federal agency or institution. So, it should be obvious that there are few, if any checks and balances that keep the federal government from not only usurping power and the rights of the States, but also usurping Power and Rights from the People themselves. While I am not saying it worked perfectly before, it certainly worked much better then it does now.
The Founders originally designed a system of checks and balances from the top-down and the bottom-up; the primary reason and focus of these checks and balances were the protection of the Rights and Liberty of the People. The system was to limit the power of the government over the People and over their Rights. The Founders provided a very effective check on Congress by giving each of the State legislatures the direct power to appoint, and if need be, to remove a U.S. Senator. The Senator’s loyalty was to the State, just as the Representatives elected to Congress were loyal to the People. Now, both the Senators and the Representatives are little more then de facto employees of the federal government and we can readily see where their loyalties lay and the result of this perversion.
The abrogation of this system of this particular check and balance on the Senate was “given” to the people via popular election. In effect, it actually placed the Senators out of the direct hands of the People and placed them in the sphere of political market influences where power and wealth became the primary force motivating their vote. While the Representatives still retain much more independence, they are nonetheless, heavily influenced by the same forces that press against the Senate.
It should be obvious that the Founders feared a concentration of unrestrained power and authority by the federal government. These Constitutional restraints were specifically designed to prevent the consolidation of dangerous power within the hands of a few at the top of the political “food-chain”. Of course, that is exactly what has happened. We have a heavily centralized federal government that constantly seeks to mandate its will over the States and therefore over the People.
Indeed, the Constitutional guarantee to the States of a Republican form of government has been severely compromised over the decades to the point that the States are nothing more than provinces of the “National State”. Currently, the State legislatures hold little direct or indirect influence over Congress, but act more like poverty stricken lobbyists who don’t have enough power or money to bargain a deal with the federal politicians.
At one time Congress was meant to be a mirror of the Will of the People, today it, along with the other federal branches, dole out contingent “freedom” to the People who have been trained to act like obedient lap dogs at the table of their master in order to get a few scraps of federally selected “liberties” here and there. That was not the intention of the Founders; they wanted a Government of the People, By the People and by damn, For the People. We don’t have that now, nor will it get any better under the current perversion of the system. We are fighting for scraps of rights, contingent upon our willingness to conform to laws of the government when we could have what we are entitled to and that is the fullness of our Natural Rights under the Contractual Guarantee of the Constitution. The more powerful and centralized the federal government becomes the more our Rights will suffer.
Under the Constitutional system, the People of the State Republics would have a much more direct and stronger influence over Congress. It would also provide the People with much more influence over their respective State legislatures since there would be more accountability of those elected since the People would naturally have more interest and therefore benefit from the outcome of those State elections. At present, few people take a tremendous interest in their State elections, indeed few State officials ever hear from their constituents on a regular basis. Now imagine your Senator being directly accountable to your State Legislature and your State Legislature being directly accountable to you. Now imagine that instead of the Senators and Representatives in Congress selling their ears and votes to the various lobbyists, that they are listening to the Voice of the People because there is a more direct connection between the People and Congress via the State Legislatures of this country.
What happened is that the Senate and the House of Representatives are nothing more than redundant functions of the same legislative branch. The Senate is no longer accountable to the States, and therefore the People, and the House of Representatives has also gravitated away from the Consent of the People. Both Houses of Congress have become more Party Loyalists then loyal to the Will of the People.
With the “passage” of the 17th Amendment, the role of the States and the People within the federal legislative branch was severely diminished. Indeed, the Amendment paved the way for other bureaucratic King Georges to exert their power over the People, the Senate and the power retained by the States were a bulwark against such powerful, and I might add dangerous, usurpations.
Look at the Bush Administration, if you don’t think centralization has played a part in his vile usurpations then you are sadly mistaken. If Bush decided to take the next step he has everything in place to do so. It was not only Bush that has used the lack of checks and balances to empower the office of president and therefore himself; there have been a long list of presidents from both political parties who have had a hand in bringing us to the sad state of affairs we now find ourselves.
Without the checks and balances between the People and the State governments and between the State governments and the federal government, there is little to stop Bush or men like Bush from extending their reach and abuse of power far beyond what any of us would want to see in this country. Until we realize that there is not only horizontal movement within the checks and balances, but also a vertical movement within that system then we will never fully realize the extent of our Natural Rights as intended. Until we deprive the government, all government from the ability to reach beyond the enumerated powers then we will continue to serve at the will of political parties, political hacks and corrupt men who serve themselves more than the People. Sure, you will get some rights, they are more than willing to toss you a few, here and there, but they will be contingent upon your willingness to obey, your willingness to conform to specified parameters that meet either the politicians morality or the majority’s morality and not your Natural Rights that can neither be denied, abridged or abrogated by any politician or political ideology.
If Dems win in 08, they will fail to deliver all they have promised, and their congressional seats will be weak in 2010 (midterm elections are the easiest to win for a candidate with enthusiastic support because of low turn out) Especially those seats in traditionally republican areas which were lost in 2006.
If a non Ron Paul rep wins, the Democrats will still fail to achieve anything notable in congress and will be vulnerable.
When RP does win, all you'll have to do is prove you are a genuine Ron Paul Republican in thought and action!
I hope to run in 2010 for a Congressional seat in KS. Though we have an RP guy gearing up a campaign for this election, so who knows? If we can get him elected thats even better!
Regardless of what happens WE MUST keep this network together for 2010...sleeper election...It can be our battle of Saratoga
the thought has definitely crossed my mind recently. before i had heard of ron paul it was something that i would have never even considered. but now i'm very curious about it and feel like it'd be a great way to bring about some needed change in washington.

We could join the Republican Assembly. They sided with Paul. I think they're in most states. Then there's always the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party. Somthing to think about.
in the upcoming election but the according to the rules here in california i can't, unless i run independent. Plus, I have an SEC civil conviction...although i really believe that if you haven't had federal trouble in your life, you haven't been trying. Wonder how much trouble that will cause me?
and have been on straight and narrow thereafter? Just be honest. That's all. Have you seen your local politician lately? I bet you did.

was on the straight and narrow...the sec wanted 12 million bucks, the judge awarded 50 grand. So I guess he knew I didn't do anything. And the jury said to me, after the verdict, when I asked them how they could convict me with no evidence- and I swear this is an exact quote, "We didn't think you did anything wrong, but you had too many bank accounts so we decided to convict."
Hilarious.
And these are the jackasses who vote? I can;t tell if I'd be a shoo-in or come in dead last.

making an attempt at Ohio's state legislature in 2010. The current republican will have reached his term limit. Its not that large of a district (Dist. 87), and I've grown up/lived here my whole life. And I have family in every town. Heh.
I dont really expect to win, but to gain experience.
Live Free Or Die; Death Is Not The Worst of Evils.
if you think Paul's getting the shaft wait till you run for Congress.
The two parties get together and decide who is going to win each primary, and they already know who the winners and losers are.
My Mayor said he was approached to run just in case a certain someone on the Republican won, and the Repubs said they would back him, the Democrat.'
If all else fails, they'll trump up charges then throw em out of court.
Find local Paul people to donate, and don't trust noone.
im idealistically looking at anothr 2 years of college, and 8 years of medical school/training, all the while reading up on austrian economics and other topics (i've already got the foreign policy down) but yea i definitely want to by the time im stable and have a real income... and old enough to run for congress... 25 i believe?
I'd love to; my father even said I should think about getting into politics but oh man... my past. Between my family and my past relationships I’d get ripped to shreds before anyone would even listen to my positions.
It’s sad but you have to have been groomed from childhood to get elected these days.
Aye
Though I will likely run for a lower office in the meantime to help name recognition.

When RP does win, all you'll have to do is prove you are a genuine Ron Paul Republican in thought and action!
I hope to run in 2010 for a Congressional seat in KS. Though we have an RP guy gearing up a campaign for this election, so who knows? If we can get him elected thats even better!
Regardless of what happens WE MUST keep this network together for 2010...sleeper election...It can be our battle of Saratoga
the thought has definitely
the thought has definitely crossed my mind recently. before i had heard of ron paul it was something that i would have never even considered. but now i'm very curious about it and feel like it'd be a great way to bring about some needed change in washington.

Anyone who runs has a national base
for a local election.
ask ANY politician about this and they will tell you the race is already won.
Are we gonna call ourselves Ron Paul Republicans?
Sounds great to me!

We could join the Republican
We could join the Republican Assembly. They sided with Paul. I think they're in most states. Then there's always the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party. Somthing to think about.
i tried to register to run
in the upcoming election but the according to the rules here in california i can't, unless i run independent. Plus, I have an SEC civil conviction...although i really believe that if you haven't had federal trouble in your life, you haven't been trying. Wonder how much trouble that will cause me?
Did you pay your dues
and have been on straight and narrow thereafter? Just be honest. That's all. Have you seen your local politician lately? I bet you did.

well, i pretty much
was on the straight and narrow...the sec wanted 12 million bucks, the judge awarded 50 grand.
Here!!
Either 7th District in Louisiana or US Senate. Probably not this year but likely 2012 or 2014 midterms. - Adrien Monteleone
Google Jim Forsythe
He's running in NH and looks to be a very solid candidate.
I was thinking
Today that I would run in 2012.
Hopefully, Florida for me in 2010

I'm in High Springs
where are you?
lets not run against eachother!
I'm considering a 2010 run too.
I have considered...
making an attempt at Ohio's state legislature in 2010. The current republican will have reached his term limit. Its not that large of a district (Dist. 87), and I've grown up/lived here my whole life. And I have family in every town. Heh.
I dont really expect to win, but to gain experience.

Infiltrate the parties then
Infiltrate the parties then remember where you came form.
I already did
if you think Paul's getting the shaft wait till you run for Congress.
Find local Paul people to donate, and don't trust noone.
maybe a little more than 10 years
im idealistically looking at anothr 2 years of college, and 8 years of medical school/training, all the while reading up on austrian economics and other topics (i've already got the foreign policy down) but yea i definitely want to by the time im stable and have a real income... and old enough to run for congress... 25 i believe?
If only I could...
I'd love to; my father even said I should think about getting into politics but oh man... my past. Between my family and my past relationships I’d get ripped to shreds before anyone would even listen to my positions.
It’s sad but you have to have been groomed from childhood to get elected these days.
