Like the banker, Irwin's father (Jacob) immigrated to the United States in about 1900 after having completed 10 years as a carpenter's apprentice in modern day Poland. Unlike the other one, he came to the U.S. as a penniless teenager. But he did have tremdendous old-world carpentry skills. He moved from New York to New Haven, CT around 1908 to help build the Yale University football stadium. That's where Irwin was born. Jacob's skills were sufficient to raise 8 Children in America, but they were never well-to-do. Solidly working class.

That book actually started my journey down the road of the austrian school of economics. You will find a lot of warnings in that book that are currently being experienced in today's economy. He's fought the U.S. government for a lot of years. He was getting too many converts though, so the government finally suppressed publication of some of his literature and wound up putting him in jail. He's a hard-nosed hard-money advocate and IRS fighter. I am not aware of any relationship between Irwin Schiff and Jacob Schiff. In Irwin's book, he speaks about his father, who was evidently a skilled carpenter or cabinet maker. I could find the whole story if necessary but that doesn't sound like an activity associated with Jacob Schiff. Any further back into his history is beyond me.
