AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR TOM MCCLINTOCK

AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR TOM MCCLINTOCK

1/27/2008

Dear Senator McClintock,

With Fred Thompson recently dropping out of the presidential race, the L.A. Times reported that you're now 'leaning towards' Ron Paul:

"Who will respect our Constitution, defend our borders, and reduce the burdens of government on our people? ... If I were to vote today, I probably would be casting a vote for Ron Paul. I’m not voting today."

"I do believe he will respect our Constitu-" McClintock said, then stopped midthought. "I don’t want to go too far. I am still looking."

As someone who vehemently supported your candidacy and voted for you during your race for governor against Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003, I'm very curious as to why you're so hesitant to officially endorse Congressman Ron Paul for president.

On August 16, 2007, while you were filling in for Roger Hedgecock on KOGO, you interviewed Ron Paul and said:

“If you ever wondered what George Washington would be saying if he were on the campaign trail today, listen to Ron Paul and i think thats about as close as you can possibly get. Now hes riled the republican establishment, which i think is a good thing….
…Congressman Paul, I do think you’ve got a message that is long overdue in American politics and it is a return to founding principles..”

Yet you then went on to endorse Fred Thompson, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. It’s quite a stretch to go from praising Ron Paul to endorsing Fred Thompson. What happened?

Thompson voted yes on the PATRIOT ACT, the McCain-Feingold Campaign Act, and the Shays-Meehan bill restricting issue ads. Opposing the majority of Americans, Thompson continued to support the undeclared Iraq war, saying "“we will not be a safer country, we will not be a safer America if the whole world watches us being defeated by a bunch of kids with improvised explosive devices".

Does your support of such a candidate indicate that you support such tyrannical laws and undeclared wars? That is certainly not in line with a limited-government constitutionalist. Yet you also insisted republicans support Schwarzenegger in 2006, despite his record of gun-control, nanny-state government, 'free flow of people' through our borders, and wasting more money than Gray Davis.

You've often been compared to Barry Goldwater. Yet Goldwater himself would certainly never endorse a CFR candidate. In his book WITH NO APOLOGIES, Goldwater wrote "The Council on Foreign Relations... is the American branch of a society which organized in England... (and)... believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one world rule established."

What has become of your purported principles?
During the recall, you often pleaded, “If we don’t stick to our principles, then what is the point of winning?
I agreed with you then.

Tom, I appreciate your record of limited govt, individual liberty, lower taxes and and defense of the constitution. Sorry to say it, but the neocon GOP establishment whose approval you obviously seek didn't support you during the recall and is never going to support you, because they don't support freedom.

In 2003 you said, "If the most qualified candidate has to step aside every time a millionaire casts a lonely eye on a public office, then we've lost something very important in our democracy.".

Please reject the 'establishment candidates', stand up for liberty, and endorse a man who we all know is the right man for the job, Dr. Ron Paul.
History will show that you made the right choice.

Sincerely,

Martin Hill

I have no respect for McClintock if he can't figure out on his own that Paul may be the last chance Republicans have to get it right for a generation.
