When did YOU hear about Ron Paul?
When did you hear about Ron Paul? I heard about him in May while researching candidates on the internet. I just want to see if there's any people here that have recently heard of Ron Paul, so we know if the campaign is working. Just curious

When did you hear about ron paul?
I heard about him in may when he went up against Guiliani.
I can't wait to see someone say they heard him from the blimp or from the ny times ad. That would be cool.
I heard of Ron Paul from a floored Democrat...
I heard of Ron Paul from a floored Democrat! I've always voted Republican nationally and Libertarian locally...Republican if there were no Libertarian candidates. Then comes along a Democrat friend of mine who is somewhat of a centrist(not one of those super lefties) and he mentioned this Republican that stunned him. I was like...who? Never heard of Ron Paul...who is he. He told me to watch a few videos...this was in April. I was hooked and started a local meetup group the first of August...no looking back for me.
Meet Up Group at a Gun Show
Actually I was turned on to him before but I didn't get "active and alive" until I met a meet-up group at a Michigan Gun and Knife show. They had a table set up and were handing out RP info, at first I thought they were from the campaign office.
After I learned that they were all local volunteers, I joined my meet-up group. Now we have meet-up groups all over Michigan buying tables at the gun shows every weekend (we have a lot of gun shows).
America Freedom/ Alex Jones/Family
Gosh I just woke up so the campaign must be working. September 2007 I began campaigning ,going to meet-ups, I'm hooked. We need RP he IS our last best HOPE. Let's take him to the Whitehouse.

I am a pretty new suppoter
who found dr paul on myspace. it seems i set up a page just in time to hear his message of freedom and try to tell everyone i meet and everyone i already know. i guess it was august when i first heard of him. the first video had me hooked. i can't believe there are people who don't get his message and would rather vote for huckabee or someone else. but amazingly enough there are and many are in my family. but i am on the side of freedom now and always, many people are resigned to the way things are and i have a hard time understanding that. we are the people and there are many of us that can be against things that are very wrong. but it seems more are saying we can't do anything about any of it so why even worry. well that is not for me i believe in change for the better and i believe in ron paul!
I was first introduced
...to Ron Paul through Libertarian media. I've followed the Libertarian Party since '96 when Harry Browne was running for president. In '04 I watched Freedom to Fascism and researched the good Dr. after being baffled a congressman held the same contempt I have for the government.
Ever since I've been trying to introduce people to libertarianism. But it all didn't click until this past May when my girlfriend's father (quasi-socialist) watched the republican debates. The next day JP and I were having one of our many political discussions and he mentioned how rotten the republican field was... "except for this one old man who made alot of sense, and he spoke like a true statesman," JP muttered. "Not something he's heard in 40 or 50 years," JP continued.
I intuitively jumped up and started shouting "That's RON PAUL! OH MY GOD HE'S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!" But what was even more amazing was that in the two minutes that Ron Paul received during that SC debate was that he courted my girlfriends father away from socialism and towards libertarianism.
I've been trying for 2-3 yrs on this and Ron Paul did it in 2-3 minutes.
Ever since I joined a Ron Paul meetup and have donated twice. I can't wait till December 16th.
I saw Ron in a Debate
While I didn't think he won, I noticed that he did win according to the internet poll. It cracked me up a bit, so I researched him on the internet a bit. I really loved his fundraising map ( I thought about how I could use it for my own purposes). I took a couple polls and they said according to my views Ron Paul was my man. THen on November 5th, everytime I checked the site, I saw the thermometer flying, I was hooked. So this is catching on, and I imagine there are thousands like me, who don't post but follow the debates and issues. I certainly don't agree with everything, but Ron Paul is by far the most honest candidate out there. I think December 16th will bring him back to the MSM big time, just in time for the votes. I have only given 11.11, so I have a bit of room to give some more.
So for sure, its working at least for this New Hampshirite.

I have know about and followed him, especially on CSPAN, as his floor speeches are always great.
I am estatic that he is running for President as he is the only one that I would vote for in this election.

In March saw Aaron Russo's "America: Freedom To Facsism" and was amazed that a sitting congressman would talk smack about the IRS. Then heard he was running for prez in April in an article I dont remenber.
The rest is history......
From a healthfreedomusa.com email
Ron Paul is often mentioned as the man fighting for our right to purchase vitamins, supplements, homeopathic remedies, etc.
This was a few months ago - his name stuck in my head. But it was before I realized he was running for President. It was the early days of the campaign I suppose. But I sealed his name in my heart and mind as someone to respect and be thankful for.
Then a few weeks ago my sister at the tail end of a phone conversation said something about "Ron Paul running for President" and I (shamefully) ran out the door to do errands, kind of shoving her sweet, conscientious, responsible comment to the back of my mind.
However, THANKFULLY, two weeks ago a co-worker started discussing Ron Paul with me - it all clicked, and I haven't stopped thinking/talking about Dr Paul since.
The moral is: don't ever think you may not be the "one" to help solidify Ron Paul and his message in someone's mind. They may not have heard about him yet, or, like me, they may have just been in the middle of something else ... and needed to be reminded of our HERO again.
*** God bless Ron Paul ***
* Ron Paul For President *
I was watching a debate with my father
...a hard-core, old conservative republican. he said "ron paul says some good things" but also said "he doesn't have the political clout" that was six months ago and he's changing his tune ;-)
The American Advisor
I first heard of him 2 years ago on a radio show called the "American Adivsor " hosted by Joe Battaglia. A radio program about investing in Gold and Silver.
November 4th
I heard about him November 4th and donated my $100 on November 5th. At first I was reluctant to depart with my $100, but I realized I would probably spend it on booze anyways. So I chose freedom over booze.
On Digg
I started seeing news about him on the front page of Digg during this past summer. I heard about his performance in one of the presidential debates in October, started thoroughly researching and started to get really excited about a politician for the first time ever. :)
Texas
He is the only Republican I have ever voted for after thirty years of being in the Party. He is just a GOOD person. He leads by example.
Texas howdy back....
Texan here also! By the way for people NOT in the know... Bush is not really a Texan, he's just a transplant!
Alex Jones Show
Heard him in may and was hooked ever since Long live the ....................REVOLUTION!
On tv bashing the feds
I don't remember the year, but I saw Ron on TV saying it like it is and I sat down and started laughing so hard. I couldn't believe someone actually had the balls to say what he was saying. I have been a fan of his for a long time and hopefully for years to come. .
To me Ron could never lose at anything because he will always be a winner no matter what.
His mike goes dead and as it comes back on you can here Ron say:
hehe, the memory of that will stay with me till I die.
Ron reminds me of my grandpa, an honorable man, lived to be 99 years old.

Alice in the looking Glass
Was Neocon to July 11th 2007 to Worldnetdaily.com to Tom Cryer to court transcript to truthattack.org to associated sites to public library to Irwin Schiff to We The People to save a patriot to Lindsey Springer.
Then I said somebody needs to make a movie about this s***. Which led to Freedom to fascism. Aaron beat me to it! Ron Paul's name keep poping up. Looked at issues and at first it was hard for me. "The Disconnect Thing, Truth Overdose" Went to a meet up it was kinda lame (this one was). Still was sheepish on Ron watched more video's', speeches, looked deep at economic's, sold. Saw everyone's zeal on 5 November gave 2 x $125.00 im in for about $500.00 total having barely any money and never having given to any candidate. Now I hang signs in the middle of the night over I-95 to catch the N.Y. rush hour traffic.
Never have i felt more like a patriot then now.

I found out about him
from all your "crazy" comments on MSM articles. :) I thought to myself, ok, who's this Ron Paul guy. Well it didn't take long to read about individual liberty, the Constitution, free market economics, and ending the war. After that, I was in! It made too much sense!
I think I donated a few weeks later and am now a VIP MAX.
LP Stuff
I was on the LP website and it listed him as one of their party's heroes. This was back in 2005.
freedom to fascism
I first saw Pres. Ron on the movie, but didn't know he was running for pres. When I heard he was running I went and bought a new computer so I could keep up with his campaign.(never had one before). Never gave a hoot about politics before either. Now I can't keep my mouth shut about Ron Paul. He's like the postman, handing out hope like it was candy. RIDE, RON PAUL, RIDE!!!
We hold these truths to be self evident...
Me Too
I saw Freedom To Fascism on public access. Looked him up online and one week later I was waving Ron Paul signs by the road.
Which reminds me to check my local cable access online (right now!) and program more showing of the late great Aaron Russo's Freedom to Fascism.
What's funny is the next day I brought up some of the topics addressed in the film with my boss and he went right along with me.
He had seen it too! The same night!
Check your local cable access and see if you can program it online.
Bring them a copy and they will show it.
I think that's a huge thing that gets overlooked.
I heard about Ron Paul
for the first time on The Alex Jones show before he even formed a presedential exploratory committe. That's for all you AJ bashers out there :p
1993
My husband (to be) told me about him. About a year later, I began reading his articles on a regular basis.
"...it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..."
I was apathetic...
I was apathetic about politics since 2004-2005... And this September, one of my favorite Christian musicians, Derek Webb, was playing in NYC on Bleecker St. I left work as early as I could that night and made it there. Among introducing a new song entitled Savior on Capitol Hill (as in "there's never been...") he spoke about how he's excited about the 2008 elections... and has been watching alot of Ron Paul videos. I looked up Ron Paul a week later - and this man blew me away, and scared me at the same time - the Ron Paul philosophy & movement opened my eyes to so much corruption and power-mongering and immoral stuff that happens in government that I was unaware of or otherwise apathetic towards.
I became a Ron Paul supporter.
Keep Dreaming...
Through the articles link on this site: www.mayanmajix.com
that had a video-the one with Don Maclean's american pie song-
video 'Keep Dreaming'...
And Aaron Russo's mention of him around the same time....
It was about a year ago
May
I had just watched Aaron Russo's America: Freedom to Fascism in which Ron Paul was interviewed. He was so refreshing and made so much sense. So I googled him and was ecstatic to find that he was running for president.
September 6 2007
And within 2 hours, I joined a Meetup group.
That is the only way I remember the date, because I immediately joined in supporting him.
It's surprising, with myself never been realy political before this, that I would be making signs (and donating, holy smoke, for the first time ever to a campaign) doing meetups, stoping everyone, everywhere and talking up a storm about Ron Paul.
I'm Living it!

I was a teenaged Republican who was won over to the Libertarian Party in 1976 by Roger MacBride.
In 1988, Dr Paul was my candidate for president. If enough of us today had been supporting him then we might have aborted this vile Bush Dynasty before it ever began.

8 months ago one of my friends, who runs a store by mine was crying about conspiracy theories and talking about him.
Since he was a big time conspiracy theorist I was like yeah yeah save the country, whatever like its gonna happen were going to WW3 and im transfering up to canada so I dont have to deal with it.
6 months I saw someone driving around with GOOGLE RON PAUL painted on their back window. At that time I didn't make the connection.
5 months ago I start seeing youtube content on him, he instantly draws my interest.
4 months ago I go back to my friend and start talking about him.
3 months ago I start campagining for him.
November 5th I give him as much money as I can spare.

I too always thought the civil war was a little unnecessary. I figured there should at least be some protocol in the constitution if states want out. And regarding slavery, like RP said on the show, it would have been a lot cheaper and less bloody if the federal government had just bought all of the slaves and then given them freedom.
America Freedom to Facism
This was the first time I'd ever seen him and then I heard him speak on the Alex Jones show and I was hooked. When he announced he was going to run earlier this year I don't think I've ever heard better news. I thought, finally, a candidate that isn't just the "lesser of two evils." Did I think he'd ever get this much support? Not in a million years. The response that he has gotten has blown me away. It's inspiring. I thought America was doomed, but not anymore. Okay I'm going to stop before I get all sentimental.
America Freedom To fascism
2005 I discovered, through this movie and for the first time, that the Income Tax law was a fraud, and that the federal reserve was a private bank voted in by 3 senators over a xmas holiday. Ron Paul was the voice in this movie lending intelligence and integrity to this revelation.
The next I heard about him was 2 years later, in May, and when he is running for president. What struck me was...why is a perosn of intelligence and integrity running for president? Since that time my life has changed..as have the lives of 35 co-workers around me...including apolital types, extreme left wing types, religious types (including mormons) and many more! The message I have found has no boundaries. My wife is a feminist, best friend a green party enthusiast, all embracing the message. Why? Because they see, amongst other things, the lies driving the media propaganda and are fed up as well as scared of the fascist shift that is trying to destroy the freedom and liberty that they thought was guaranteed in the U.S.
Thus, they can accept that they disagree with him on many social issues because more than anything else they want to restore open honesty in the office of president. RON PAUL MAKES A MISTAKE WHEN HE SAYS ITS JUST THE MESSAGE NOT HIM.
IN REALITY IT IS HIS HONESTY AND INTEGRITY THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLES MINDS, NOT JUST THE MESSAGE.
RON PAUL..please start taking the credit!
Bush can also take credit for Dr Pauls emergence from 30 years of unsuccessul fringe seclusion. Its like the reverse of Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde...where now the evil Hyde creature has created a powerful Dr !!!!
2005 on the Free Talk Live radio show / podcast.
I was researching socialism vs. libertarianism.
I lived in San Francisco, was working for a Sundance award winning director as an editor and had some free time between projects. Actually I never got very far with my studies, as libertarianism won my mind practically immediately. Why would I want to work if I couldn't make a better life for myself? Socialsim sounds good, but not only does it breed despot rulers; it breeds the worst in humanity among the populace. That's more evil than the govern't in my mind. IT MANDATES CHEATING AND STEALING! What kind of philosophy is that?
My main goal in the research was economics. I'm a money nut. Not in the sense of getting money, but in investigating and evaluating the course a currency takes through societies. Yes, in virtually the entire world, the game is rigged against everyone who won't lie, cheat and isn't in the inner-circle of economics/politics/huge business. Big-time rigged. In order to buck the trend and achieve the american dream outside this system is not only a herculean effort, but takes an unbelievable amount of luck. Not good odds.
BTW, you don't own anything by having American cash. It's totally worthless. Get Gold / Silver for starters, even if it goes down a bit, it's only going up in the future and relative to any countries currency there is only one long term ultimate direction.... UP. HARD MONEY SHOULD BE POLICY, NOT OPTION! Fiat money should be an option if you so desire, they've got it backwards in Washington. However that's not surprising. It's full of ignorant do-gooders and decietful hucksters. R - RP and D - DK are huge exceptions to the rule there.
The reason I got into this is when I was 18, I discovered the "Peak Oil" phenomenon. I read ALL about it and concluded that it was manipulative idea. Yes we use oil at an astounding rate. Maybe, on the determination that we're running out of Oil. There are competing theories on where oil comes from, and as of yet, not one of them is proven. BTW, IT DOES NOT COME FROM DINOSAURS. LOL. If anything it comes from one of two places. Biological fermentation / isolation in high pressures, OR the earth's mantle (i.e. underneath the earth's crust). Again, no one can agree, therefore there's no consensus... only politicking and manipulation. (much like global warming) I'm sure if we had an honest Govn't, the EPA would've spent a lot of money figuring this out for us. They haven't. Thanks guys.
The war in Iraq is not to get oil. It's to LIMIT IT'S PRODUCTION. Basic supply and demand, less oil is higher prices. But it's not as simple as that, because we're building 14 permanent bases in Iraq. That reeks of permanent occupation and Middle East control... hence EMPIRE. (Iraq isn't actually a country by their own means, but is a fabrication of the UN after WW2.... can you believe this?! As was Israel. [no offense to Jews. Really, I have a jewish best friend and another who is co-renter/housemate, and I love them both.]) What lies they've told us!
I'm diverging. Free Talk Live is a radio show syndicated on 20+ radio stations across the US. They have a 3 hour, 6 day a week show which is just f*ing awesome. Never heard one like it before and it's absorbing.
Ian and Mark (formerly Manwich), you guys are icons. They frequently talk about Barry Goldwater, and especially Michael Badnarik, who is an incredibly informative speaker. (Did you know that when you check theh box: I am a US Citizen. That you are subscribing to rule under Congress?! And not as an INDIVIDUAL SOVEREIGN as the Constitution / B.O.R. intended you to be?!) It's all pretty amazing stuff.
But that's my story.

(c'mon tri state! I don't see very much RP love around here. Do you really want a proven gangster or vociferous, vindictive woman to be the POTUS?!) No offense girls, but she's f*ing out of her mind. Have you ever read the writings of her former secret service agents? It'll blow your mind what she can put together in words and very few of them are more than four letters.

I first heard about Ron Paul
I first heard about Ron Paul probably around September through HealthFreedomUSA.org. I was very sick for several years and getting worse through doctor prescribed pharmaceuticals. Through alternative medicine, I got well and don't ever need to take anything - not even a Tylenol. I wondered why none of the doctors I saw knew about safe alternatives that work. Jenny McCarthy has brought attention to this lately with regard to autism. There are safe alternative treatments that work for some people. Why didn't any of the doctors tell her. The more research I did, the more I realized that we really don't have health freedom in this country. Everything is controlled by Pharmaceuticals and the FDA. They influence what the doctors learn in Med School. They go after doctors who prescribe alternative treatments. They prevent us from getting information about harmful effects of drugs. They prevent us from getting information about natural treatments that work. Did you know the FDA is going after cherry growers because they cited independant articles about the anti-inflammatory effects of cherries? That is our taxpayer dollars at work. You wouldn't want to try something dangerous like eating a cherry.
I have always been registered independant, unable to identify with either party. I never knew who to vote for. Then I read many of the articles in the Ron Paul Library and I knew I had found my man, and for the first time in my life, I care who wins. Not only do I agree with him on Health Freedom, but almost everything else.
What I think is truly remarkable, is that we are all so different and arrived at the same place for so many different reasons.
P.S. Maryland just announced that they will jail parents who don't comply with vaccinating their children. Read the link.

RP was in Truth and Lies of 9/11
I'm not a truther, I was just seeking some information surrounding the events of 9/11, about a year and a half ago. Mike Ruppert was giving the lecture, and included an interview with RP about the Patriot Act. I later learned that many congressmen (probably RP included) receive a lot of their information from Ruppert's website - www.fromthewilderness.com (prior to the alleged poisoning of MR, and the destruction of his office, about 1 yr ago). Here's a link to the video i any of you are interested -

I heard about Dr. Paul from... www.voxday.blogspot.com
I heard about Dr. Paul from www.voxday.blogspot.com. He is a Christian Libertarian and I am quite sure he actually only exists in cyber space as some sort of super-intelligence.
However, and this is a "may God strike me dead' true story. It was the end of my tour in Iraq before Dr. Paul had declared to run, and my team was sitting around and complaining about all the candidates. Then I said, "I hope Ron Paul runs for president, he is the only Republican that can beat Hillary Clinton." Dr. Paul has fulfilled my wildest dreams of reminding America that there is a constitution and that there is atleast one man that follows it without hesitation.
May God bless America, and allow us all to unite under His banner of Liberty.

In 88
First head of him in 88 from a friend, I liked where he stood on issues but didn't want to throw a vote to a third party. Not that it would have mattered in 88 as it did in 92 with Perot. This time around its the way to go!
web forum and signs around college
Not much else to go on if it wasn't for the internet or sheer desire to research congressmen (ugh).
I know media is expensive and RP wants to let the freedom momentum grow on it's own. However, I would like to see him be a bit more aggressive about being seen and heard. For gods sake call Romney on his copycat BS....loads of it tonight on Beck...almost plagerizing Paul outright.
On a doucumentary called "Money Banking and the Federal Reserve"
"Money Banking and the Federal Reserve" is a great documentary I stumbled across one night at work (yea i know, I wasn't working). And low and behold a congressman was on it! How could a person from congress be on this documentary? I was blown away by what I learned and put his name in a search engine. What popped up? Ronpaul2008.com! Running for president too? I was so excited I spent the next week just finding our more and than...bada bing bada boom SOLD!

Love reading everyone's story! Great thread!

I became a Libertarian 4 years ago, which meant going out into the wilderness to never vote for a mainstream candidate again.
I heard RP's name here and there, as he was identified as a libertarian in congress that ran as a Republican. Since I didn't live in his district, I never paid much more attention than that. Then his name started popping up on lp.org as a possible candidate for the presidency, somewhat of a scandal for the LP, since there was much disagreement on whether people should switch parties to vote for him. I never thought he would have much of a chance, so i wanted to remain with the LP. I was looking into Steve Kubby as sounding pretty good, knowing it was nothing more than a protest vote. But then the grassroots started. I could see that there were a lot of people that had been following this man for a while, so I started to read up on him. I started thinking about the possibilities of a republican run for RP, and decided that I would throw my support behind him. THen I heard that Steve Kubby did the same.
First time I have ever donated to any campaign. I talk to everybody I can about RP. I live in NM, and 47 other states have their primaries before us, so I know I can't just sit around and say, yeah he's got my vote. I have to open my mouth and my wallet to be able to make a difference. I'm gla dso many of you are doing the same. THere is still so much to be done. i handed out fliers at the mall last week, and 75% of the people I saw still haven't heard of him. So let's keep it up!
