We need another free state project
I love the idea, and I'd sign up in an instant, except for two problems:
1) NH is just too damned COLD.
2) My ex is from there.
Surely there's another state we can take over.

"Ron Paul County"
I posted this in another thread too. I hope that's OK.
I have noticed these types of threads appear to be getting more and more common, and more long-lived when they appear. I have started a forum at http://ronpaulcounty.ipbf... to further gauge the interest level. I was involved in the FSP, and then moved to N.E. Wyoming as part of the FSW. We libertarians do not have enough people to take over a state. We do have the numbers to take over a county and have our victory mathematically guaranteed. If, that is, there is a large enough proportion of Ron Paul supporters willing to move.
Come sign up on the forum and talk about it. Spread the word!

Arizona
Arizona would be perfect. We are actually moving to Phoenix in the next couple of months. It is great. The political climate is great, there is already a huge RP group. There are volunteers going to the border to help patrol the border and build border fences from donated funds. The Sheriff's department has volunteer groups collectively called the "posse" where you can volunteer to do many things, even patrol with salaried deputies. If you pass a backgroud check you can take a 70+ hour gun course and actually carry a gun in public in uniform. I am joining up. I am not a huge fan of guns so I will steering to search and rescue, since that is my passion. The legislature has already passed a bill calling for the repeal of the 17th Admendment. Which several other states are looking to do as well. It does get hot in the summer but it is worth it.
I will be willing to help in any way possible for this effort.
Be Careful!
Arizona was excellent, but now it is filling up with liberal Californians and changing very rapidly towards a democratic politics like coastal Los Angeles.
I know
That's why we need more of us. If we don't take a stand somewhere where will we go? I've lived my whole life in the NorthEast. I am so tired of the cold. That's why I am not joining the NH project. Where else can we go?
Texas!
I've said it before, ill say it again. If RP does'nt take the white house in 08, second best scenario is winning the governors house in 2010. I know the revolution could pull it off. I for one would move to texas if Dr. Paul asked me to. Ron could get a hell of a lot more done, being the governor of the second largest state in the union , than being one of 535 on capital hill.
I'd move back to Austin in a
I'd move back to Austin in a heartbeat.

Hmm..
Alaska?
Oil to start the economy (States can make their own decision on that, especially free ones)
I am sure there is still some potential for Gold and other mining opportunities there as well.
It is set aside that if needed a Treaty with Canada and/or Russia could free it up as a new country altogether.
There are many benefits especially if you look at a goal of seccesion.
Of course the climate and global position make it interesting but the rest of the US doesn't care about Alaska unless they hear about a bridge to nowhere or ANWR. THe most focus the American public have given to Alaska other than those two issues was the Valdez incident. Otherwise most Americans probably don't even know it exists.
Another point being that with "global warming" it will be changing in temperature soon enough anyhow.
Just a thought.
Alaska is currently the most
Alaska is currently the most freedom oriented state, but it would take a big commitment to move there. It would be great if one could could take up residency there during the summer and then bail out for Baja Mexico in the winter.
CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, NM
CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, NM should all secede and lead the world in technology, health, education and morality by example.
Coastal California, the
Coastal California, the Portland area and Seattle are not salvageable at the present time. The modern disease of Statism is too well established. Even Arizona and Nevada are filling up with Californians and easterers and going over to socialistic thinking and institutions. Colorado had a taxpayers bill of rights that really reigned in government. It was rescinded by the voters, who wanted more government (services).
I vote for Key West
Restore the Conch Republic!!! Can't be self-sustaining, but it sure can operate a healthy tourism industry and trade with it's northern neighbor.
Wyoming has a Free State
Wyoming has a Free State Project, but I think it's kind of dead-in-the-water.
http://www.freestatewyomi...
I believe that their strategy is to build a critical mass in the northeast counties. I looked at it and concluded that it's too far off the beaten track for me and not a good climate. I'd like a milder climate with a good growing season. Western Montana is better in all respects. Alaska is also pretty near a free state right now, but again it's not my cup of tea; great place to visit though. i don't hold out much hope for the NH FSP. People from the crowded Northeastern states are pouring into NH and bringing their bad ideas with them. Consequently the place is going welfare democrat faster than it is libertarian by a wide margin.
NH is the Free State
I was involved in the intial vote, and a lot of thought and planning went into determining which states were available to be voted on. The most important was population. Research was done on similar movements in other countries and it was found that a dedicated group of 20,000 people could successfully influence a state with a population of 1.2 million or less. That ruled out all but 10 states. Out of those 10, NH was chosen. A detailed breakdown of the vote can be found here http://freestateproject.o...
Personally, I see the cold weather as an advantage, in the same way that bad weather on an election day is good for Dr. Paul. We only want dedicated freedom activists moving to NH, not people who want a sun tan. :) The weather actually isn't all that bad in the Sea Coast region.
If you're unsure about the whole thing, I encourage you to go to NH for the Porcupine Festival. You can talk to early movers and get an idea of what's happening on the ground there. It's guaranteed to be a great time with other freedom lovers.

Hello, New Hampshire a free state???
Live free or die, ya right. Just another bunch idiots.
Well, NH did let us down on voting day =(

Just to reiterate
The climate is a serious issue for some. I have a serious health condition that requires me to live in a warm climate. So don't be so quick to judge people.
Wyoming isn't workable either, for the same reason, although culturally I'd prefer it to NH. Nevada would be good - but I fear it may be too large to work the sort of changes we have in mind.

FSP
When you look at their growth charts, the FSP is growing steadily and looks great. It's amazing the things that the early movers have accomplished! I plan to join them. And, by the way, the goal is not to 'take over' anything.

Question?
I don't know anything about the Free state project. Is that similar to what those folks in South Carolina are doing? I forget their movement but I remember something about EXODUS TO SOUTH CAROLINA...or something like that.
I think alot of them are from the constitution party and want to try to get a majority in the state to takeover the elections. If I remember correctly, their goal is to run for state legislature positions and get to the point where they can seceed from the country. The founder even made national news and was written up about on alot of websites.
Is this similar with the free state project?
My 2 cents would be .....New Hampshire, Arkansas, Alaska, North Carolina, Wyoming. I love the mountains....places with BEAUTY. I am from Texas so actually the cold is a nice change from constant heat and humidity.
I'm from Wisconsin ... want to trade? =(

NH was picked for a reason.
NH was picked for a reason. I believe Wyoming came in second, based on the same criteria. Just so happens they're both "cold" states, not surprising considering that population density is a factor...

Free United States program!
Hey, you could try what the Mexican's do. Its called the Free United States Program. Sneak into the US, get paid cash....don't pay taxes on anything except sales tax. Get free health care and the best education no taxes can buy!!
This is why the
This is why the freestateproject must be having so much trouble...lip service to patriotism. "I -want- to live in a state that is more free than the others, but its "too cold" or "my ex lives there" or something as equally inane. Get real. Do you care about your liberty, or not? It really is a yes or no question. There are several alternative free state projects, but it just so happens that NH won the vote when the idea was presented. Deal with it. Would you rather live in Alaska or Wyoming? Those are cold placed too, and did not receive a majority vote. I was born in Wyoming and lived there for years. It's colder in Wyoming than New Hampshire. Do you like 20 and 30 degree below zero weather?
Enough arguing about needing another FSP because you don't like what we chose. The question is, would you rather live in a "better" state than the rest and actually get some progress made in changing the system, or just sit in front of your computer and just whine about it? Are you a patriot who wants to return to Jefferson's states rights, or aren't you? Either help the NH FSP, or don't. Just don't whine about how you don't like the choice of state, for whatever reason.
Actually
It's a serious issue for me. I have a serious health condition that requires I live in a warm climate.
As for the bit about my ex - allow us a little levity from time to time, ok laughing boy? :D

Hogwash. There are plenty of
Hogwash. There are plenty of legitimate gripes about the FSP, and you know it. The selection of NH was hardly a landslide, and you know that, too. You also know that the faction that split off to form the WY project make at least as good a case for their state as you do for yours.
*THAT* is why the FSP is "having so much trouble" -- because of membership like you, who are so deeply invested in NH that you refuse to entertain any critical thought on the subject of free-statehood.
Look, if I were going to choose to join one of the two, I'd choose NH. But I'd do it for personal reasons unrelated to the viability argument. NH is certainly not the be-all-end-all utopia that you guys seem to think it is. When you start behaving realistically about it -- when you start working with the other projects rather than against them (I am well-aware of who is the more stubbornly indignant party among the two prominent state projects, and it ain't the WY folks) -- then you might attract more pledges.

I agree, The State of Jefferson is where I'll be.
The best weather in the US
The best weather in the US is the coastal region of the southern half of California (Mediterranean climate -- the most comfortable for humans), but good luck trying to turn that socialist cesspool into a libertarian utopia. Exibit A: http://americanthinker.co...
Most other places are either oppressively hot in summer, or bone-cracking cold on winter, or both. I'm afraid the political climate is of more importance in selecting candidate states.

Delaware
Small population, and much warmer than New Hampshire.

Wyoming has one
but it is cold there, too.
I propose Georgia
Perfect weather, reasonable prices. One of the most progressive of the southern states! How about it?
First things on the agenda: Get Libertarians and Constitution Party in offices.
Knock out the income and state tax from paychecks.
