Ron Paul gets silver in ME, tops 20% of vote
I just posted this story across Usenet:
Early returns from Maine indicate that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul successfully replayed their “Nevada strategy” in the Maine caucuses this weekend. As in Nevada, Romney won a clear majority of the delegates, while Paul edged out John McCain for the silver.
Maine newsblog keepMEcurrent reports: “With just over 12 percent of Maine precincts reporting, Romney had 53.2 percent of the vote, with Paul in a distant second at 20.6 percent and McCain at 18.3 percent. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was fourth at 5.2 percent.”
Read the rest at:
http://www.keepmecurrent....
While Paul’s share was a "distant second," the ME caucuses - just three days before Super Duper Tuesday - mark the first time his vote percentage has topped 20%. He previously received 14% of the vote in NV, and also reportedly came in second (behind McCain) in LA, where final vote totals for each candidate have still not been released.

we still have chance... But
we still have chance... But there is no way we can claim second yet!!!!!!! McCain has a 1.5% point lead...
www.politicallore.com
no we didn't. McCain got
no we didn't. McCain got second and we're only at 19%
i think we should hold up judgement
I don't know what 47% they are showing but my hand calculations on all the towns I have (quite a few) show:
Romeny first
Ron Paul - 296 votes
John McCain - 249 votes
This is just a beauty contest
It's the delegates that actually matter here and the reports coming out of Maine seem to suggest that we're winning that battle. Check out this post from another thread:

RE Maine Caucus
On February 2nd, 2008 Brent1776 says:
I attended my town caucus in Maine (in York County). At each town caucus anyone was free to count the presidential preference survey votes and/or watch the votes counted. At my town caucus the votes were counted in front of everyone and this is most likely how it was done at the other towns as well. I don't expect that any fraud or unfair practices occured. Everything was conducted openly and fairly. The results in my town:
Presidential Preference Poll
Romney 9
Paul 6
McCain 5
Huckabee 2
However, Ron Paul got 1st place in delegates to the state convention for my town. My town can send 11 delegates to the state convention in May. All 11 seats were filled and 7 of the 11 seats were filled with Ron Paul supporters (this I know, not because delegates were required to express who they support, but because I personally know that these 7 delegates support Ron Paul). Ron Paul did not get 7 votes in the preference poll because one of the delegates nominated to the state convention had to leave early before the poll was conducted. Even though Ron Paul got either 2nd or 3rd in the presidential preference poll state wide, he likely did better with delegate representation to the state convention because many of his supporters were more willing to be delegates to the state convention. Even though my town filled its 11 seats, many towns did not fill there alloted seats because there were not enough people who wanted to fill them.
Keep in mind that the presidential preference poll is completely non-binding and has nothing whatsoever to do with the selection of delegates. I have already seen articles in the mainstream media which have said otherwise. This may or may not be true with the Democratic caucus next week, but it is not true of the Republican caucuses.

what town is this
Ron Paul 2008
OK I'm pissed now!
Ron has the people in place and they say they are winning left and right.
GOP run the count.
MSM take the results and post them.
Paul now distant 3rd.
We don't have open and free elections.
NH shows we don't have open re-counts.
We can see the grins on the face of Bush and Rove because later recounts showed Gore won Florida and the election, and even knowing that Kerry won Iowa but (again) conceded. So we are stuck in the toilet now, wars, ID's, worthless money.
Without free and open elections we can never get off our knees.

Just sadly another state
Just sadly another state proving that Americans are too stupid to vote. I will continue to "fight", but they have successfully dumbed down the country in a big big way.
If this was the caliber of brain power the settlers had, we never would have lasted 200 years...yep, dumber by the minute.

Maine delegate rules
I attended the South Portland caucus this morning. There was an unexpectedly large turnout. Before the vote they went into how Maine's delegate process works. The delegates are unassigned when the go to the state convention. The 100 or so people that voted essentially have no vote. It seems it is all for show. The 33 delegates that were elected from my district to go to the state convention can vote however they please when they get to the state convention. You don't even vote for which delegates you want to go. You vote for the presidential candidate you want. It pisses me off that I have to be on a job out of state during the convention and couldn't be a delegate. The whole process is f'ed up. Hopefully Paul has a good number of delegates going to the state convention. Ridiculous.
Patrick
how many total delegates and how many went to paul?
in Westbrook, he got 10 out of 24 delegates

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh
It Mitt beat Ron in ME, and Ron got another distant @2 , then you'll never here this "succsess" story anywher this weekend. You propably won't even here the State of ME mention, they didn't talk about Nevada, why would they want to start talking about ME?
I think these totals are misleading
The percentages that politico and yahoo and so on are reporting are the popular vote. I think that's different to the actual caucus results. According to posts from actual caucus goers elsewhere on DP and accoding to all the pre-caucus hype, Dr Paul's been cleaning up in those and if I understand it correctly, those are what determine the delegate share.
I may be wrong about this - can anyone up in Maine who understands such things confirm or deny this?

Politico.com has something
Politico.com has something totally different. They have 40% of the precincts counting and Paul in 3rd with almost 19%. What's the deal here? I'm quite confused.
YIKES !!!
How has he slipped below McCain?!?!?!
What a freakin' disaster.
How could Maine - of all states - support that war monger?

Patrick
Winter Haven, aub, lakeland bartow ? who won the polk county vote?
I haven't looked it up....
....but I will tell you this:
I BETCHA all of those towns had him pegged at 3%
He was almost exactly at 3% EVERYwhere in Florida, all night long.
It just seems so bogus that it's that steady from start to finish ALL over the state.
I'm up in NY working right now, so I couldn't be at home with a bull horn afterwards telling everyone just how dumb they are IF in fact those are true numbers.

That's BS
I was just reading a news story from Maine that said that Ron Paul has been winning with 40-something percent of the vote and Romney at like 22% and that there was only one more caucus to report in tonight. So, I don't see any way that it could have swung that much in just an hour or so. No way Romney can win Maine.
Joe
edit: Here is the results that I saw
1st Place: Paul 41%
2nd Place: Romney 27%
3rd place Huckabee 19%
4th place: McCain 12%
2 districts
I read the story. These are numbers from 2 of 3 caucuses held in Northern Maine. Only 47 people turned out.
Replies like [Malone's] above better qualify as 'BS'
Because there is no link! No backup! No support. And even if one appears before I finish writing this, replies like this without links inculcate waste of a vast amount of time.
So, where is a link to to this "I was just reading a news story from Maine..."
At least narrow it down, north south, east, west if you can't bother to post a link!
I'm gone for a week and what do I find when I return?
This place seems to be infested with robots!
Can't pass the Turing test, yet though.
Come on guys, post links!
Ha ha! I like that
Ha ha! I like that reference to the "Turing Test"!
Yeah, it does seem that there is an increasing amount of just plain DUMB posting here on the Daily Paul --- like suggesting that Huckabee run as Ron Paul's running mate, or "XYZ Happening RIGHT NOW!" (one has to be NOMINATED first to name a running mate; and when the f--k was "right now"?) Stupidity!
I think what you are
I think what you are referring to is the NORTHERN Maine results. I've read this somewhere too, but it doesn't represent the entire state, just the northern sector.
Please do you have link....
I hope YOU are right and everyone else is wrong.
Do you have a link?
I would like to read that story
Do you have a link?

Where? Do you have a source?

My story was based on early returns;
it could be that he did better in the northern part of the state (as in NH), and those returns hadn't come in yet.
Of course I hope he gets the gold; but AFAIC the figures I gave are enough of a victory.
You have to understand what a victory this was, in any case. After the last 3 weeks, with the MSM keeping its cone of silence around the campaign and the Internet infected with the "racist" meme, any other campaign would be dead by now. Instead, Ron Paul's vote has gone from 8% (in NH) to at least 20% today. With yet more delegates to bring to a brokered convention.
