the Patriot Act. Ron Paul was one of a small handful of Senators/Congressman that voted AGAINST this disgusting piece of legislation. THIS IS WHY WE NEED HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE. This falsley named "Patriot" Act is the most unpatriotic Act passed. The Neo-Cons snuck it into some other bill that had nothing to do with it, right before closing & before a big holiday. Most of the Congressman / Senators did not have time - nor bother to read (save RP), what they were signing to pass through legislation. This unpatriotic Act endangers our Civil Liberties and provides ease of warrantless searches (such as this one shown in the video), unknown wire-tapping, & internet monitering/spying, etc. & worse. Visiting certain sites like PETA can get you blacklisted w/ the FBI, CIA etc. No joke.
Dr. Paul voted against this. The most REAL Patriotic Act you can perform for yourselves, families, & country is to vote Ron Paul. He will set about dissolving this and getting us back to our Constitutional Rights.

Contact the Canton Chamber of Commerce like I did and let them know you will not be visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame etc. in their area because you are concerned about the brutality perpetuated there by law enforcement officials.

She was arrested for no reason ! But the county made money. Another happy customer.
She accidentally gave her DEAD sisters ID. So the ARREST is Just as Grevious as the Strip Search. She was the victim of an assault! , then "Detained" (they won't call it an arrest even though she was hancuffed and put in jail), then physically and mentally abused by the police. This is much more common than you think !
The County made money from her bail, and will make money from any charges on her. "Crimes" that make money are enforced, those that don't aren't bothered with.
Someone robs your house, no money to be made, forget it, good luck..
But on lots of nonviolent and victimless crimes , lots of money to be made, probation fees, fine, bail kickback, confescation of property to be sold at auction, ect. They will ruin your life , cost you thousands of dollars you don't have, mostly from poor people who can't afford a good attorney. Make you a customer of the system. This is a consequence of the war on drugs and exansion of power from it.

immediately and contract private security for the time being. They need to send a message to police they they work FOR us. Who in that town is going to call for "help" when they need it? Nobody, that's who, the criminals will run amok unless they get some private security in that town.
I get so tired of people saying they always give the police the benefit of the doubt in cases like this. Why? I don't get it. Giving the police the benefit of the doubt propagates the situation. Giving the citizen the benefit of the doubt doesn't do that. Here's a novel idea - hold people responsible for their actions regardless of who they are.

The police don't recognize the rule of law and I'm sure the citizenry doesn't understand that they have alternatives. Like I said, people who need help today won't call the police and don't know who else to call. The criminals (other than just the police) will run amok.
Yes, I am for ending police forces, but I am especially serious about that town dissolving their police force today. The citizens are in immediate danger from the police and other criminals.

Cops too often are too quick to analyze the situation or who to believe. I've seen this first hand numerous times. Someone should have driven her to the hospital if she needed medical attention.

Depending on where, and when I was hurt, I would be inclined to treat police as any other strangers--If I don't know the cop personally, I won't trust him (or her, for that matter). I'd seek a good Civilian to loan me a cell to call family or friends.

There are as many Blackwater and contract troops in Iraq as there are our OWN soldiers! Over 160,000!! These guys are also making from $900 to $1400 per day! This is terrible and is exactly why Ron Paul continues to stress that law enforcement is most effective at the local level.
This type of police action can quickly be redressed at the local level but would be nearly impossible at a federal level. This needs to be shown to all of the residents in the county. Make videos and hand them out. The county needs to work to reform the police procedures and fire everyone that was involved and condoned this action. You elected and hired these people to protect you now it's time to fire them.
Now, just think if these were federal agents. How could you ever effectively form a group of people to put pressure to demand change? -you couldn’t. Federal agents are not answerable to the communities in which they enforce laws. They answer to Washington and to appointed people.
However, these officers live in your community, have families there and are answerable to the community. You can effectively redress the abuse of your rights.
It is up to you to bring about that change.
There is some stereotyping on this thred about police officers. Most officers I know are very sincere about protecting the public and are very respectful.

I"m not condoning what the deputies did to the woman. No doubt they used excessive force, bad judgment and didn't follow established procedure. However, calling for anything other than their resignations (or even perhaps suspension and re-training) is not justified.
Calling for their deaths is just plain retarded.
They weren't cracking jokes and making threats. They weren't hitting her or shaking her to "get her attention." They didn't seem to be making anything sexual.
Please remember that most cops aren't bad people, just human, with all that implies. Everyone makes mistakes. The test is how we deal with not just our own mistakes but others also.

All that participated and the Sheriffs "pay no mind attitude" to this event SAYS they need to be put onto posters so that all the neighbors know just what types of people their taxes are paying for and since they work for us "as public servants" they no longer need to be employed and every citizen there in Stark County need to demand they be FIRED!! NO voluntary resignation, what will they do move to another county to join the force and then operate in the same manner. This is a clear violation of her rights!! want yours taken away? I've actually had mine "taken away". I've been through the treatment of police officers over-stepping their authority and/or making bad judgments. I still say that calling for any sort of physical punishment is not just retarded but also condoning the same type of irresponsible behavior we're discussing.
I also know that police find themselves in ugly situations all the time. Someone here said that we don't know what else may have happened because not all the video is available. That's true, we don't. We don't know if the officers were giving her a hard time or verbally abusing her.
Now flip the coin.
We also don't know if she was drinking or under some other influence. We don't know if she was being belligerent (however justifiable..but sure to bring out the more militant side of any police officer).
I guess my point is thus: our right to judge the actions of these officers is based solely upon our ability to do so with a clear head and dispassionate review, otherwise we're simply a mob.
How do you know what else happened?
As mentioned in the story, it's clear that not all videotape was released to the victim's attorneys. Like the CIA tapes, or tapes of shock therapy administered to bound and restrained young teens here in Massachusetts, or numerous tapes of torture by taser and physical restraint, these government agencies (our government) simply destroy them to protect themselves.
I am not convinced that this woman was not knocked to the ground or otherwise abused further by authorities at some point during her day long detention. Likely traumatized for life, it's my hope that this family has the means to move to another community if that's what they feel is best for themselves.

I have a question for everyone, why can't we compare things that are happening today to things in the past? It seems like whenever we do now people just scoff at the idea--like a person is insane or out of place for doing so.
To be honest, I believe the current situation in America is worse than Nazi Germany because they're are way too many apathetic or aloof people in this country. People will just watch this video and switch it off real quick because it doesn't concern them and it's offensive. It seems like nowadays you can put just about anything on TV and people could care less.
Even though the MSM reports their version of the news, there's enough of it out there for people to make rational decisions and/or get people motivated enough to do something but it just ain't happening.

I was in the military and regardless of what orders I was given or procedures I was expected to follow I still had my own set of standards and morals that I would not violate. Comparing these officers to Nazi's is totally fair. They should be fired, prosecuted as felons and never even allowed to vote again in this country.

I am aware of three different people that I knew pretty well back in High School that became police officers. All three had serious issues with self image and inferiority complexes. They needed to be feared. They joined the police force for the power that it gave them, not because they wanted to be Andy Taylors and serve their fellow citizens. They were bullies as children and became worse bullies as cops.

That's an important point, now that I think of it you described one high schooler I knew who became a cop.
Heard that intelligence tests are given to police recruits and supposedly if they score too highly they are not hired. The higher the intelligence the less likely to blindly follow orders.
Cop recruits also take the MMPI test (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), and there is a particular profile out of that considered to make the best cops. (four letters, probably basically indicating bully and not too bright)
My own experience in run-ins with them over many years is that they are as_described_above by someone else, and, although naturally there are exceptions, it is not safe or wise to assume they might be honorable or intelligent or thoughtful human beings, instead assume they are dangerous dimwitted egoists putting on an act and you'll more often be right. They appear to lie continuously as a rule and will do anything in attempts to vilify as long as they think they might get away with it. They are easily tricked into taking the wrong side in an argument and making wrong conclusions based on who called them first, who has the most expensive property, or whether one has been in the military (like many of them), etc.
