Gas in Canada is less than $1 a gallon.
My ex-wife just called me from Canada where she's on a business trip. She couldn't believe that gas up there was only $1 a gallon.
Can anyone who knows the details of why this is please explain it for me. I know the US imposes a hefty gas tax right now but it's not $2 a gallon.
Thanks.

You mean a Canadian dollar per liter, don't you?
one US gallon = aprox 3.8 Liters
Which would make gasoline about $3.80/gal
Simple answer is its by design, and the full explanatation is..
Because Canada hasnt shut down and neglected to build refineries like us. Making oil into gas is where our problem is. Its all by design! Gas is so expensive because the botteleneck is at the refinery stage. Have you seen the oil companies profits that are starting to be reported for last year. Can you say "DEAD GIVEAWAY"!
haha
a friend just made this same "observation" after visiting the UAE... and Ive made the mistake a couple times as well. foreign currencies make it even trickier ;)
Canada dont like americans,should they?
What have we done for them to come to our aid? You need two citizens
to vouch for you and a job to get in. BC has the highest population of homeless so they are not looking for more homeless people especially american.sorry if it stings .I am in Alaska and we are better then Canada
with much less of a population and we have a constitution we ship crude out and ship back refined while we could all live in AK and mandate fuel as we could if people cared we voted last night and olny got 15000 votes apx? I seemed like we had more supporters then that??? Did I mention we got 1800 each last year from 5 year average of oil! we got gold ,cheap land, farming, plenty of room to go .sell evrything come join the revolution!
why cant we be in GOD's land while we fight?Lead by example ,show em it is possible! 1 state at a time!brick by brick
What you hear on the Internet...

Folks, please double-check your facts before making statements you may later regret (or which may be reposted and forwarded like a bad chain letter.) By the way, folks can also edit/delete their comments on here.
That is per litre not gallon
That is per litre not gallon so multiply times 4 and thats your price per gallon.
It is about $4 per gallon right now
This is true, it's a much
This is true, it's a much smaller measurement!
I think RON PAUL
said our government tax on gas is $1.80 not to mention your state tax on it as well...??
tax
if Paul has his way and were to do away with the income tax then the gas tax would have to be kept as way to pay for roads, etc. If this is incorrect, please, point me to a valid source of info stating otherwise.
correction
It's PER liter... not gallon...
That should be $1.00 a liter
That should be $1.00 a liter not gallon. Makes a difference !
Canadien Gas
They have been taxing the crap out of it for years, to the tune of 3-350 per gallon or 1.03 - 1.11 per litre.
BUT, gas prices at the pump in Canada have not risen in the past 5 years.
So how can that be?
1. US Inflation (oil is priced in US dollars, and Canadian dollars are strong)
2. Canadian oil for internal consumption does not go through US dollar exchange, so the price does not inflate.
If we were still on the gold standard, a barrel of oil would cost $3.60.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Strong Loonie... it is.
Strong Loonie... it is.
not risen in the past 5 years?
I can assure you that I was paying less as little as 2 years ago!!
Like 92. cents on the liter, but yes it is taxed all to hell. Sounds like a small difference from now but hey, it all adds up!
ummm..
right now in Ottawa, it is between 94. to 102. cents per liter! Not gallon.
Maybe I should have left this alone...
(sigh)
Maybe you should delete this inaccurate post - NOW
That would stop any further attacks on your information being wrong.
No No
No worries bro! It's all good!
Also, for Canadians
Also, for Canadians responding to this post, keep in mind that a U.S. gallon is less than an Imperial gallon. 1 Imperial Gallon = 1.2 U.S. Gallons.
A feel good observation...
This has nothing to do with the original point of this thread, but it is related none-the-less:
I left work about 5 minutes after posting this thread, then felt dopey for not putting 2 and 2 together to realize that Canada uses the metric system. In any case, being a veteran of internet forums, I fully expected to open this today and see at least a couple of responses calling me a "dumbass", or "retard", etc.
Not 1 derogatory reply.
In thinking about this for a couple of minutes I began to feel like I am truly a part of something incredible. Like a part of a group that has true respect for others. Nobody bashing for the sake of trying to make themselves feel superior. It's what I always kind of expected from Ron Paul's supporters, but this just confirmed it.
I always knew this movement was special, as are the people in it, but I truly believe that we're as unique as we believe we are. I believe that MOST of us are here to the end. I know I am, and always have been.
Anyway, I got a little shot of renewed energy from this, and I figured maybe some others could use it with the somewhat negative vibe coming from the board today.
per liter?
As others have already noted, that price must be $1 per LITER. After all, that's the unit they sell gasoline in up there.
When I was up in Ontario and Quebec about 18 months ago, their gas prices were over $3 a gallon (once all the necessary conversions had been made)... a lot more than ours in the midwest at the time!
$1 PER LITRE, OR ROUGHLY $3.80 a GALLON (much like the U.S.)
Only the US sells petrol in gallons.
It is probably 1$ por liter
not galon
no no no
we use liters in canada. I would guess gas is more in Canada due to more taxes
I've paid about $4 a gallon for over a year Someplaces its $3+
cw
1 US gallon = 3.78 liters
It's expensive in Canuck land.
Don't know but,
If that's true, then you could load it into tankers there and bring it down here to sell, and prices would even out, right? No, because you have to factor in shippings costs. It's very expensive to transport gas. So how far the gas has to travel may have something to do with it.
Call her back and ask the price per liter
1 liter = 0.264172051 US gallons
Then we can compare. I have read much of the gas price is inflation not shortage. We are in a seriously inflationary period here in the US.
Liter to gallon conversion is
~3.78. Gas is pricy up there.
its because..........
Of Supply and demand!!!!! Simple trick of the trade!
Yet our politicians said there is no corruption or price gouging, they reported having billions of billions of dollars in profit!!!!! WTF!!!! Just this quarter!!!!! No corruption my but!
Oops!
You mean $1 per liter.
;-)
