Romney is quitting to ensure McCain gets a majority of the delegates. Without his prime opponent, there is little doubt he will receive the required delegates before the brokered convention.
There's no other reason I can see. Romney was doing well enough to have a good chance.

Romney wasn't doing so badly. I don't believe he would sink so much of his money into the race and then drop out just because he didn't sweep the board on Super Tuesday.

Ok does anyone actually think Romney was doing bad enough to drop out? He won here in Colorado hands down and he has had decent success all over the Country. I think there are still 19 states left to Primary/Caucus. Why is he dropping out so premature?
Everything seems fishy. I can't believe someone would sink as much money into a campaign as he did only to drop out before it's all over...... Something isn't right.

As repulsive as most (neo)conservatives find McCain, they would still hold their nose and vote for him over Ron Paul, and it all has to do with the war in Iraq. Many Americans genuinely enjoy war and "get off" knowing that American soldiers are active in distant parts of the globe blowing things and people up. For the few that do not enjoy war, they still don't want to admit "defeat" and bring the troops home. They are "saving face", as RP said in one of the debates.
