Ron Paul right on WOT

I read through the comments and most people there support Ron Paul except for the WOT. (I guess that's War on Terror.) They repeat this over and over until they've convinced themselves he's wrong on the WOT without giving any reasons. Let's just say he is wrong and he brings the troops home. Then when something happens, let's say we're attacked, CONGRESS WOULD DECLARE WAR!!!!! Just like what is supposed to happen based on the Constitution. I, and the framers of our government, realized that it was better for this power to be vested in a group of people, and not just one man (or woman.) When power is vested in the hands of one person, and that one person's father was the target of an attempted assassination by the dictator of another government, you're likely to see that first person invent/create/lie his way into declaring war on said dictator.
I think Ron Paul is 100% correct on the WOT. He suggests bringing our military home to guard our borders and keep the terrorists from smuggling dirty bombs into the country (very sensible to me,) and that we stop agitating terrorists by occupying foreign lands. The military is developing a missile defense system that would protect us in the event that we are wrong and terrorists would launch an unprovoked attack. I think it's more sensible to work with foreign governments to make sure the terrorists can't get nukes than it is to impose our military and culture on them and insist that they do what we want.

"now everyone that was calling him a kook suddenly love him"

....was the general refrain....but they be lovin' them some war on terror.

Sounded like if they could just drop the fear thing, they would embrace Ron Paul because they were really liking what they were hearing!

Maybe this comparison with McCain will work faster for conversions than we thought.

We need to run all sorts of Paul vs. McCain newspaper ads...small to full page!

Whaddyathink??

yup

Yesterday at CPAC was the first time i'd seen him go on the offensive, naming republican candidates by name, and he knocked it out of the park.

I gotta say it again

That was the best speech I have ever heard! That will go down in history. We need to take over a broadcast and show that to the country!

And ot was about friggin'

And ot was about friggin' time!!!!

This is good

It's good that conservatives who had been suckered into the neo-con are looking around and figuring out that the only candidate who wants a smaller government at home is the one who wants a smaller government abroad.

unfortunately...

This gang will never get over the foreign policy issue. Their hearts are in the right place, but for some, it hurts too much to say they were wrong/duped/suckered, and, flying in they face of logic, they will continue on.

the challenge

you've nailed the challenge pretty clearly.

what's the solution?
put yourself in their shoes for a moment.
how would you feel if you have been duped by the people who you've been taught were entrusted to protect you?

it's not too much of a stretch...we've all been there before...

RP summed it up

pretty well when he said that it is not a matter of "if" but "when" we have to change foreign policy. You have to frame it like; "Well, we're getting out of Iraq soon ANYWAY, with a Dem win in '08, so why not focus on domestic issues" or "We're getting out of Iraq soon ANYWAY, because we simply can't afford it, and the dollar is crumbling", etc.

They called him a moonbat, and nazi hugger,

weird. The one comment about Ron Paul's stance on the War On Terror, really confused me. It shows that they are not seriously checking their facts. Going after the terrorist, and not giving 10 billion to a dictator to do it for us sounds like the right approach. Again, they agree with him, but must find a reason to be against him. The reason they do this is because they can't deny logic, so they have to resort to opinions.

It's not 'they'

It's not 'they': it's specific posters at that site. Other posters say they disagree, but on balance, recognize Ron Paul as the most conservative of the remaining candidates.

It's true, though, that (fully considered) Ron Paul is actually the strongest on defense for the US (as opposed to the defense of the Syria-Iraq border).

is free republic a Nazi site?

..

Primarily neocons, used to be somewhat genuinely conservative.

So to answer your question, not quite yet, but probably soon.
