Ann Coulter said she loves Ron Paul but hates his stance on Iraq.
We need to explain to people that the war on terrorism creates more terrorists than it kills.
We need surgical elimination of violent extremists, not invasion of nations that rallies entire countries against us.

I would tell her I agree with her on Iraq but that war is over
No sense in banging heads against the brick wall of pro-OIF feeling with people like Ann. Even I remain convinced that the Iraq War was the right thing to do.
But tell her that the war should be over by January 2009 and, if not, then something is wrong.
Tell her that the main reason for the war was accomplished 5 years ago.
That reason was the permanent switch of the balance of power in the Middle East from Sunni Muslims to Shiite Muslims. We altered 1000 years of history as punishment for 911.
Ann Coulter would agree that this was the reason and that it actually was accomplished (of course it created a new problem of Shiite beligerence).
Tell her the 2nd main reason for the Iraq War was to "drain the swamp".
The concept of swamp draining was to draw 200,000 young idiots to "fight Americans in Iraq". Part of the plan was to report that the Americans were getting their butt kicked...thus motivating more idiots to get recruited by sting operations and to get bussed into Iraq in the dark of night. Of course, US forces were waiting for some of these buses and the idiots were never heard from again. Other busloads got in "safely" and their payloads have created a lot of havoc...before mostly getting killed themselves.
This strategy is similar to the Phoenix Program that efficiently wiped out most commies in South Vietnam (the war was "won" only by full scale invasion from the north 2 years after US forces split).
Ann Coulter would love this kind of talk.
But then ask her if 5 years of this might not be enough.
Tell her also that the main opposition group in Iran are the Bahais, which follow a radical left wing feminist religion.
If we "liberate" these people from the Muslims they hate, they will irk the Muslims badly within days and then the Muslims will want to kill them all.
Big massacres of Bahais would result.
Does Ann Coulter want that kind of stuff to happen?
Work on her from these angles. Tell her to fly to Munich, Germany (I will be in Istanbul in a few days) to meet with a veteran who thinks a lot like she does but (or should I say and) came to the conclusion that Ron Paul is the only option for 2008.

Congress said it was OK if Saddam did not comply. Totally legal or not, this argument actually dilutes the message that we should follow the Constitution in other areas. I know how the pro-war people think because I still think Bush got Congress' permission. I don't like it when pro-war people completely reject the rest of the message about following the Constitution simply because this point is seen as so arguable.

Besides to say you really love someone if he would just agree on one tiny issue like continuing the deaths of innocent people---what is the thinly disguised purpose--to sway other people in that direction , I see it as a persuasion tactic---come on people everything he says makes sense but that little war issue so forget that is not viable. Sorry this person seems just full of hate, she can barely contain it.

A Brilliant Woman
Ann Coulter is the smartest woman I have ever run across. "Godless" was a classic, for certain. No joke. You can call her names, but she definitely carries intellectual cachet.
I do agree with Dr. Paul's stance on the war, but even a non-interventionist foreign policy somehow needs to insure our energy interests into the future. Does the military have any role in that insurance?

THERE IS NO OIL SHORTAGE......PERIOD!!!!!!!! There is plenty of oil ritht here in the U.S., they just don't want to flood the market to lower their profits and effect the U.S. dollar at the same time as it's attached to oil after our gold standard removed.....the beginning of the end for the U.S. We are at war to shut off the supply making it more "valuable" for the international bankers and oil companies.
Interestingly, when I was canvassing my local area, an elderly woman invited me in for a few minutes to talk. She was concerned as to what was going on in the world, but didn't totally connect the dots like most. I told her about the non-oil crisis. She then told me about her son, the oil exec., that told her stories about the company consistently destroying oil supplies. That confirmed any questions that I ever had that we have an oil shortage.
She was concerned about the war and her other son. I told her that she better vote for RP if she wanted to save her other son from being drafted. I was so worked up that day that I think she thought I was a little crazed, but I think she appreciated my visit....who knows. You never know who's door you knock upon. By the way, I also knocked on the door of an ex-Blackwater soldier. Yep, a very interesting day indeed.

1)We have untapped energy resources in the US. We have been 'saving them',using cheaper imports instead. Makes for a helpful political tool,as well,doesn't it? [both internationally and domestically.]
2)RP continues to speak about allowing competition-legalizing industrial hemp,deregulation for entrepreneurs and inventors-to remove government control and incentive monopoly on the science and business industries.
3)The best way to insure our energy interests is to stop acting like an a**hole in the international community. Who wants to do business with a bully?
4)Other oil-rich countries can do whatever they want-if they wish to charge exhorbitant prices for their exports,that is their choice. It will likely backfire on them in the long term,however. It is only in this short interim period that countries like Venezuela,Iran,etc. can monopolize and cash in on their resources. They do need customers.
5)We do not have as much of an 'energy crisis' as is made out to be. Anyway know about propaganda? You can rest assured that any issue of 'the day' is heavily steeped in propaganda. Read up on Edward Bernays.

We need to let them know that RP is all about protecting American citizens, going after the real threat (not the citizens in Iraq) and a strong military defense. They don't hear the right story, they are misinformed.

I was canvassing and came upon a marine home from Iraq. "He stated to me he agrees we should leave Iraq, but we still need ground troop presents around the world."
I countered (my husband served on a flight carrier), "We don't have to be IN any country. We have 6 (I think 6) flight carriers that could easily be positioned to move on an enemy within hours, if not sooner. No other country can compete with these ships and the nuclear prowess they posses, and they can protect our county well off the coast."

She is a "smart" (learned, studied) woman; but how intelligent?
Her method of relating is aggressive, snippy, and bullying -- not the approach required for international diplomacy. And yes, I agree with others here who say that if we are attacked or reach an impasse, Dr. Paul will ask the Congress for a declaration of war.

This is what RP fails to nail. He says get out of Iraq, but needs to follow it up that he intends to go after terrorists that really do pose a threat. If he could better articulate that and that nation building does the exact opposite - and is a liberal approach - he could win over the pro-war Repubs.

What gets me is all of these mostly neocons that are in complete lock step agreement with Ron Paul on nearly every single traditional Republican position, yet they disparage him as a kook and say they won't support him just because of his stance on the Iraq war. Rush, Ann, Glenn, Sean, etc, they all talk just like Ron Paul most of the time except for on the intervention issue.
what these necons need to understand is that we lose the war of terror if our nation goes bankrupt. we simply can't afford it and will go broke if we continue it.
We need to get people to realize that WE'RE BROKE.

Thinking invading Iraq is a solution is an example of a solution that became a problem. If a solution was not appropriate would she rather try another solution? RP is promulgating a promising solution to this problem.
