Have we lost our way at Daily Paul?

This is a legitimate question. It seems as if we are getting spiteful with others, getting angry with each other, and trying to marginalize our already-marginalized political affiliations. We have to stick together - and that means letting the trolls die off, letting the naysayers die off, letting the ones that like to discourage certain segments of RP's support die off...

This site used to be a joy. Remember when Nystrom went away for a while and the forums blew up on the front page. So much so that we were a little upset when he came back and reverted it back to it's original format (how it is today)? I always come here for the forums, but then I find "9/11 truthers hurt us" and "fire the campaign staff" and "troll,troll,troll".

Have we lost site of the prize with all this incessant bickering?

Have we really lost sight of what this site can do to help the movement?

This site is a wonderful tool for us to share ideas and to drive curious traffic to REAL RP supporters.

Let's not lose sight of this.

And please don't flag me.

I couldn't agree more. We justly tout Ron Paul as a man of common sense, yet there seem to be lots of posts antithetical to that paradigm. This is about much more than just winning the 2008 presidency. The difference between Ron Paul supporters and those of other candidates is that Ron Paul backers support a set of IDEAS, not simply the personality of the candidate. Dr. Paul has excited the younger generation and trumpeted this message far and wide. This message will ring strongly long after Dr. Paul and the rest of us are gone. Whether or not he wins the Presidency, he has started a ripple effect that is becoming a tsunami. In that regard, we have already succeeded.

I'd say a part of it may be the whole troll deal.. some of it has got to be that we're idle since yesterday, some just nerves about where we stand... I dunno.

I think I'll build a forum tomorrow for something a little more expansive.. economics, history, foreign policy, etc. I've got a server I've nothing of my own on.. might as well make personal use of it as well.

That way when I'm flagged for talking about the DOW or get tired of the pablum posts, I can go lick my wounds... ;)

Question: If enough of us flag the clear and obvious trolls, does anything happen? Is there ANY way to block them from this site? I hate to ask that, but there ARE some obvious trolls and disruptors here, and I think we need to have some kind of recourse to deal with them, or this site is going to get overwhelmed by them.

such post! And they have nothing to do all the day but load the dailypaul with negative energy, wrong information and try to waist our time and steel our focus! The administrator must take steps, we need moderators for the forum who ARE RP supporters.

At times, it does appear to be that way

I think there is a lot of uncertainty that has been turned into negative posting. There are also new posters that are anxious for results. Its a matter of sticking it out TOGETHER!. Nothing would make the MSM happier than to say DRP and all is kooky supporters self imploted.

Stay the course until DRP tells us different. Its that simple. If you are haveing an urge to post something negative, and not supportive, take a break, read a book, watch a movie, canvass, spend time wrestling with the kids.

DRP is fighting for you and me, he deserves our support.

Idle Hands

We're waiting. Any moment now, the campaign will finish polishing the next communique' and we'll know what to do next. It takes time to strategize and analize the situation, what with Super Tuesday followed by Mitt's suspension. Meanwhile Dr. Paul must make his votes in the House and get to his speaking engagements, and the new team has to decide where they are.

Any moment, a new e-mail will come out and we will be ready to focus on what we can do to help.

What happens here is the same as what happens in government: the more we share a common goal, the more extreme our disagreements on how to achieve it. New blood is very helpful in reminding us to search for the common ground.

The problem is

if someone expresses concern or asks questions that require evaluating the situation as it is, you get called a troll.

So anyone on the fence seeking intelligent dialogue is immmediately scared away by those who refuse to embrace the real possibility that Ron Paul may not win the GOP.

The sites participants, instead of welcoming open dialogue, are discouraging guests who have real questions and concerns.

If you want donations from new people, if you want to attract new members that were once following Romney, than I'd recommend healthy exchanges that welcome all viewpoints. Give positive reasons why people should embrace Ron Paul and QUIT THE TROLL CRAP.

I second that motion

I find it really ironic that an individual who comes in here and exercises their first amendment right to provide a counterpoint gets labeled and compartmentalized as a troll. It says a lot about the nature of man and his tendency to prejudge and discriminate against groups when an idealistic movement like this one degenerates to that level with such ease.

The RP movement is easily the most idealistic initiative in this campaign cycle. I love that about it. Let's keep that in the front of our mind and value system.

Yes, we have, because

we realize the campaign is in limbo, that recent developments this week--poor Super Tuesday performance and Romney leaving--has caused us to speculate what the future holds. And the campaign is giving us no sense of where we are headed right now. We have a sense that we need to do something different, but we are not sure what course of action the campaign will take. So, our minds open up to other things. Once something definitive happens with the campaign, issues like 9/11 will be suppressed.

There's just a total lack of discourse here now.

It used to be that I could come here and catch some good info or advice. I used to like catching in on Ayn Rand threads. Now, it's all the same shit--third party, 911, media bashing, etc.

Maybe that other person is correct --- this site needs to be divided up into real political threads, vs. those about 9/11, religion, and the reptilian aliens that are enslaving humanity under the Denver International Airport.
