Too Much Traffic!

You may have noticed some site outages over the past few days...I've been noticing them as well. The problem - the very happy problem - is TOO MUCH TRAFFIC! I started out hosting the site on a little shared server, which soon got overwhelmed. Then, with the considerable knowledge and help of Drupal genius (he co-wrote a book on it!) and Ron Paul supporter John VanDyk, we (ok, he) got it moved to a beefier VPS (that's virtual private server to you and me). After just over a month, the traffic has doubled again, and we're outgrowing our new digs. So - the DailyPaul is moving again - this time to its very own, private dedicated server at Rimuhosting, for whom I have only the highest praise. They've really gone over the top with their help.
So - the move to the new server will come in the next 12-24 hours. The lights may flicker a bit - but if they do, you'll know what is going on. Thank you all for your support of Liberty and Ron Paul!

Okay, enough about me - the one we should all really be thanking is John VanDyk who is the man when it comes to Drupal and really helped us all out of a jam when this site outgrew its old digs. I cannot thank him enough.
Ok, agreed.
This just means he gets lots of beers if he hits Brevard county, too. :)

You have some links to there (the fund raising graphic?) and my browser seems to hang for a while and I see "Transferring data from www.ronpaul2008.com..." and "Waiting for www.ronpaul2008.com..." at the bottom of the page (status bar?).

Like all the others here, this site is an awesome service to the campaign and all of us supporters. You know how valuable it is to us when I tell you I have been trying to get on it for hours and hours, actually closing my internet explorer after not being able to, and walking away from my computer because there was nothing else on the net I wanted to read. : ) Thanks again,

I have been trying to get in for hours. Finally....
It's funny how that I was never a real conspiracy theorist until I joined this campaign and became enlightened on a few things. My first thoughts were that the site had been hacked.

Yeah, a dedicated server is costly, but what else can you do?
As far as Dreamhost goes, I would not at all say they suck. This site started out on Dreamhost, and it was great until it just outgrew the shared server. But what can you expect? I host over 10 different domains there (including Bullnotbull) with them for under $10 per month - not each, for all of them.
As long as traffic stays moderate, or you don't have a lot of processor intensive stuff going on, Dreamhost is fine. I've been with them for over 3 years, and still host all of my other sites there. Good, fast, customer service - I think they're great! They just couldn't handle the traffic that this site is generating - they don't have dedicated servers of their own - they specialize in shared hosting and they do that well, imho.

That's unacceptable
Dreamhost advertises that it allows up to gigs of space, and terrabytes of bandwidth, this is MISLEADING ADVERTISING.
"traffic moderate"? If they actually said how much traffic and resources they can handle, that's another story. But they advertise for traffic that's unrealistic to have, unless your site is being viewed around the world evenly throughout 24h a day (RARE!) Once you reached the traffic you thought they can handle (far below terrabytes I'm willing to bet), they slow down.
I do webhosting myself so I know how much it costs. I KNEW that when my clients left me to Dreamhost, they'd either never get the traffic they think they have, or if they do, the servers can't handle it for what they're paying. Thanks for proving it to me!
It happens
As a webmaster myself,I have 275 or so sites, its one of those things you hope for (traffic), but can be a burden when you actually get it. Drupal is great , though in some instances I have had hosts compalin about processor usage. LOL... at least you got "the man " helpin out . thanks to him as well.
The dedicated will no doubt clear up the troubles. Excellent work :) Much appreciated by all the RP junkies out here. So I say we "owe you some clicks" sir, as our actual cash needs to go to RP... Thanks for the hard work.
