Translation of latest letter from the Good Doctor. Before you rip me for this, read it all, then read it again, then THINK about it. THEN, if you still feel the need, and nothing has made you think out of the box, feel free to rip into me. But at least think about it FIRST, that’s all I ask.
Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans -- and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well.
Translation: The above paragraph is buttering you up for the impending bad news…
Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero.
Translation: I don’t think I have a shot at the Presidency from within the Republican Party now that there will not be a brokered convention…
But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter.
Translation: And since I don’t think I have a shot at the Presidency from within the Republican party, I’m cutting back on my national paid campaign staff, you know, the people who are getting me name recognition and who WERE working to help me get the Presidency. But since I am not focusing on that anymore, there is really no need for so many of them…
Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.
Translation: And since I refuse to run 3rd party where I’d actually have a chance at WINNING the Presidency, due to unprecedented Independent support of my candidacy (42% of Americans identify themselves as ‘Independents’), I’ll just continue to be the ONE SANE VOICE from within the broken, unfixable, and corrupted Republican Party…
I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.
Translation: In medical terms, this is basically a Band-Aid, where a tourniquet is needed. So since I know I can’t cure this ailment all by myself, I’ll at least prescribe a good medication and treatment for my beloved patients so they are not in as much pain, as they just die slower… one day at a time…
In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me.
Translation: Help me retain my Congressional seat, because even though I haven’t said it in exactly these terms, you are smart folks and can read between the lines. I’ve basically given up hope of winning the Republican nomination, and I refuse to run 3rd Party, so you know what that means… no RP Presidency. I love you all, and don’t want to let you down, so I will run the Presidential campaign as long as I can, because I said I would and I am a man of my word. You know as well as I do that I am no longer devoting resources to actually WINNING it, but merely getting our message out there and hoping to educate and inform people in the hopes that they’ll elect their OWN Ron Paul’s or BE their own Ron Pauls. But fear not I’ll still fight for you in Congress, as the LONE voice of reason in that madhouse…

At the rate the GOP is going, it's becoming a third party. Ron Paul brought more Republicans into the GOP than any candidate, and what do we find, Ron Paul's loyality is to the GOP, not us. Those who switched parties for Ron Paul for the primary should switch back NOW.
Why is the Republicans Party so important to Ron Paul? He says, "The GOP has lost it's way..." So why remain? We've been had. Show Ron Paul it's about us not finding the GOP a party we want to be associated with because they have lost their way!
I'm not a writer, but I believe Dr Paul is going to get a good bashing he deserves for misleading independent antiwar with "hope", he had NO intention...any of those campaigns would have lloved what he had, and the worst of it, is all of us would have loved to have him president.
Apparently Ron Paul wasn't running for president, he was running to keep the GOP alive with antiwar voters.

In my humble opinion, their fatal mistake was running his campaign just like any other politician when we were trying desperately to differentiate him from that crowd. But... I'll never give up.

We should all realize that this revolution wasn't supposed to happen. Ron has taken on all that is corrupt in government. All of those who profit from this corruption came out to squash the revolution. The media shut out Ron Paul. I can not emphasize that enough. Ron would be more popular than Obama if the media gave him a chance. We must keep this in perspective. The Revolution must go on. It is our responsibility to get back to the government of for the people, by the people, of the people. This is your country and mine and if we become apathetic again we will surely lose this country forever.

He's just being honest. The chances are slim - is that so hard to hear? Is it wrong to hear? If you have a 10% chance of surviving an operation, wouldn't you RATHER know so you can better prepare?

The ENTIRE campaign Ron was saying, "it's not me, it's the message." Did the message suddenly die because he cuts back in the states where primaries and caucuses have already taken place? Not at all!
The fact is Ron Paul reignited our original revolution, and has ignited in me something I will never extinguish. And to think, I never even met the guy...

Ron was getting heat all week from these boards and Jones and others to do a 3rd party now. I believe this is just his answer to all that. He is also saying that he has to take some time to go to Texas and camp. in that state and locally for his spot in the House.
personally, I believe he should do a 3rd party after this. However at the same time he needs to still go to the states that are left. The fight in OHIO is not over. Please come to Ohio, like Columbus. I am turning people every day. WHen they hear Ron they like him and what he says. The problem has been that when he is not on TV the average Joe does not know him. But like I said, everyone I turn on to him has liked him and said they would support him. I am not giving up until the Commander quits and then we can all try to find someone else to back.

The national advertising campaign
Has been a sick joke at best. I have NEVER seen a Ron Paul commercial, nor has anyone I've ever spoken to in person.
If that is the best that almost $20 million in donations could buy, God help us all.
His national campaign staff should have all been FIRED months ago, and replaced with grassroots volunteers (who cost NOTHING, and give EVERYTHING!).
Not these folks that are in it for a paycheck.

Wasn't there people undermining the campaign in his staff? There was an Issue in NH with the phones, and then something happened in Alaska. We had people at our G'ville office that were NOT helping the campaign and driving some of us meet-up people absolutely bonkers.I think it's great he is cutting back staff. We are the best staff he has. I think this is a good thing. Saves us money.

1. Phone or in person survey the people in our precinct and use 2 or 3 of Ron Pauls views from his slim jims or web page.
Lets build his base and do a larger money bomb like if a million Ron Paul supporters donated $100.00 so that he can direct mail everyone in the nation and do local advertising *******( the lame stream media does not deserve to receive any advertising dollars from this campaign)****** to continue to reveal to the public how he would behave as president.

This isn't going to convention as easily with Romney out now.
We're going to keep fighting, but now focusing on winning a state delegates rather than preparing for convention.
We're running for a Congressional seat as well.
We're not going 3rd party because it will compromise that

This Revolution
was started by Ron but it will not end with him. This is much much more than a presidential candiacy. The ideas that Ron has pushed of limited government, sound currency, and freedom from an opressive, money draining government have been strongly planted and freedom will win out in the end, it just doesnt happen overnight like some of us would like. Ron is the Morpehus of this Revolution he may not see the end come about but one day, one day it will but it wont be easy...

The one question that no one has answered on any of these sites so far is this...Why would Dr. Paul put out a letter that has been so widely interpreted to mean 2 different things by those that read it?
In all the forums today there seems to be a 50/50 split on what this means. This was needless by the campaign. This is not the time to be so vague and confusing. This letter was not motivating to me. I guess for others they feel motivated (go figure). How simple it would have been to say "I am not going anywhere, I am in it to win it, I WANT to be PRESIDENT....who is with me?"

Was very poorly composed. Thus, we have people split in thinking what the letter means.
Tell me this, if it was on a positive note, why was the letter NOT positive?
I was at the Denver Convention Center rally two Friday's ago, where 3000+ people packed in that room. It was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen. It was louder than a rock concert. THIS is the kind of support that Paul has, yet he's tapping into virtually none of it.
His latest letter seemed bland, uninspiring, and basically defeatist, where the impression I got was that he knows he can't win the Republican nomination, and he refuses to change parties and run 3rd party, because he sees his Congressional seat as the more important of the two.
This is obvious, as he'd rather keep his Congress seat than make a viable, and very good 3rd party shot at President.
He's given up any real hope of winning the Republican nomination, and refuses to change parties to continue his run for President 3rd party.
He is an honorable man, and does not want to let us down.
Perhaps that is why the letter is so vague.
You have every right to your opinion
and there is no reason for insults toward you, and it sounds like you have worked very hard. The question is why are you jumping the gun, and where are you going to go anyway--to the people that you are not ashamed of that are supporting McCain? Why so anxious to give up, can't you take a deep breath and understand this is not business as usual and Ron Paul is walking a tightrope, and it is a day to day process.

As I stated in another thread, RP cannot win the Republican Nomination, as the party has already decided on McCain, and he refuses to run 3rd party. It's simple, basic math. You cannot win something which you do not attempt to win. He can't win the Presidency by staying in the Republican party, and he refuses to leave it due to his Congressional seat in Texas, which is basically a Band-Aid to a larger problem.
RP will always have my support, AND my vote, as he has for the last 20 years.

those that have always made decisions have already figured out the game ahead of time of how it is supposed to work, so what the public gets to see is the same old horse and pony show. But these are new times, and do the math of the chances that we are here, with Ron Paul even running for president. Sometimes things happen against all odds so lets just go for it. If you really want to go for the odds want are the chances of having a man of RP's intregety being in the government for 10 years and stepping to the forefront at this point in time. So, lets just see what happens--it is going to be an emotional roller coaster, the ride of our life so we just need to hang on--because there is no where to go.

Everybody thinks they're a pundit. The energy spent on this letter could of been used to call potential voters in Washington state or Wisconsin. I just think there is too much talking, predicting, worrying and not enough action! I'm sure you'll give me the ol' I've done this and done that argument, but none of it matters a hill of beans if it's not followed through.
Do you realize there are supporters right now pushing signs into the ground and fearfully knocking on doors or calling angry people up to convince them to vote for a candidate they never heard of? I'm taking my Ron Paul sign out now and going to my street corner by myself.

I find it absolutely amazing that so many people who supposedly support the things that Ron Paul stands for, are so willing to tell me to ‘STFU’ because it’s something they don’t want to hear. You are on this message board, the same as I, and have the same rights as I do. Who the hell are YOU to tell ME to STFU? Could you possibly attempt to trample my 1st Amendment rights any further?

I’ve been a Ron Paul supporter my entire adult life, and have supported him longer than most of his new ‘supporters’ have probably been alive. I just call a spade a spade. You can have a kneejerk reaction all you like but two things will happen, just as RP hinted in the above letter:
1.) There will be no brokered convention, which means McCain will get the Republican nomination.
2.) RP will not run 3rd Party, so he will not win the Presidency. (This is obvious, since he is staying a Republican… God help us all.)
And the last is my own prediction:
3.) McCain doesn’t have enough support to win against Hillary or Obama. Hell, most conservatives can’t stand McCain. I have many Republican friends who are now going to vote for Hillary or Obama just to teach the idiot Republican Party a lesson, and show that they’ve come too far from their party roots, and aren’t listening to their core membership.
I don’t agree with that logic, but that is what they are going to do nonetheless.
Get ready for either McCain or HillObama boys and girls. It’s going to be a fun ride.

Why would Ron Paul write a "letter" to his supporters which he full well knows will also be read by many others (media and opponents)...since it is also posted on his campaign public website. It's not like we were just privately slipped "inside information" folks. Is he really telling "everyone" the inside scoop on what he really thinks and what his campaign goals and strategies are at this point? Something isn't adding up about this...

Thanks for the "translation" LibertyRocks but I don't think there were any hidden messages in this. He would have little to no chance at a 3rd party run because they wouldn't invite him to the debates and he wouldn't get on many of the ballots.....and there aren't enough enlightened people to make a difference. Dr. Paul has always been straight with the grassroots, and as he said, he'll continue the fight even though a brokered convention is much less likely with Romney throwing it. But Dr. Paul still knows that most conservatives don't trust McCain and perhaps McCain could still struggle while Ron could garner more support.... If this happens he could force McCain to make concessions toward Paul's position. Actually there's no telling what will happen, so just keep plowing forward.
