This Candidate Doesn’t Quit
February 9th, 2008 by Dan McCarthy

A few news sources are misreporting Ron Paul’s e-mail from last night. The presidential campaign is not ending, not being suspended, and not even drawing down. It’s slimming down and ramping up — with over twenty states having already voted, we’ve shed staff, and we’re concentrating financial and organization resources on the remaining states. We’re going to the convention, and we’re fighting for every vote and every National Delegate along the way.

Republicans do not want John McCain to be their nominee. He has only been able to become the front-runner because the field was so divided and because he’s a media darling. We can see just how unpopular McCain is in the heartland by his performance in the Kansas caucuses today. Kansans resoundingly rejected the Arizona senator, and McCain’s big wins so far have mostly been in blue states — states he won’t win in November if, heaven forbid, he’s the Republican nominee.

Republicans want and need an alternative. Some people think Mike Huckabee provides an alternative to McCain. But Huckabee, who now tries to sound like Ron Paul when he talks about abolishing the IRS, raised taxes in Arkansas and vastly expanded spending in that state when he was its governor. Huckabee is no alternative at all. Ron Paul, on the other hand, has never voted for a tax increase, never voted for an unbalanced budget or for an unconstitutional war or government program.

At stake here is not just the Republican nomination — which McCain still has not locked up — but the future of the Republican Party and, much more importantly, the future of our liberties. We have to organize in every single state, including the ones that have already voted in the primaries and caucuses, to continue the fight to take back the Republican Party and to ensure that Ron Paul’s principles, the principles of Washington and Jefferson, prevail. For the sake of that cause, Ron Paul’s campaign continues, all the way to the convention.

HELP RON PAUL

ronpaulracing.com

RonPaulforCongress.com

We must defend his Congressional Seat, as it is being threatened by a very slimy politician that has already put out a smear campaign.

That is why Ron needs to focus on Texas, which is why WE need to help him win the rest of the states!!!

Please donate to RonPaulforCongress.com then get to work on name recognition and spreading his ideas about the issues!!!

CALLING ALL PATRIOTS!!!

Our time to act has come.
The time to act is now.

Get out there and CANVASS
Go make calls to state's that are about to vote.
Go send emails
Go make YouTube videos
Go hold signs...do what it is you do that has gotten us this far!!!

And above all, remember the Good Doctor's orders, if you are not having fun...you are not doing it right!!!!

Who cares who wrote it

Who cares who wrote it. Just continue on with the revolution AND BECOME A DELEGATE!!!

The issue is who wrote Fridays e-mail?

Because the tone was very unlike Ron Paul's speeches.

We don't need ghost writers and handlers. We just need a decent camera man who can make a video of Ron explaining things or telling us what direction to take.

That e-mail was the single worst thing that has happened to the campaign so far, I believe. Those who defend it, are the ones who refuse to take into account the tone and the initial shock it caused. Second readings can pick apart details, but how many are going to re-read after the first impression?

Stop the letters and e-mails. Go back to the personal video idea. Just be sure to get a better camera man and pick different props.

According to people at RP Forums, he did not write that email.

Why is there always an issue?

I do not see anything wrong with what was written

He is scaling back - makes sense to not waste money.

He is going all the way - we knew that.

Why is there controversy over this letter?

All those who are constantly panicking really need to get a grip.

If there are that many people whose despise McCain then there is still hope for a brokered convention. If conservatives are going to be puppets and support McCain even though they despise him then we have a problem.

The problem was the tone (very negative)

"nearly zero chance" and the timing - the night before several primary contests. Also, it just didn't sound like something he would say. Between the "Whoa!" greeting and the quoting of Trotsky, it was just way off. How many people were dissuaded from going out to caucus because there was "nearly zero" chance of a brokered convention, according to that email (which I don't believe is true, BTW)??? I know I was depressed all weekend, until I found the thread saying that he didn't write or approve it. Also, the media used it to spin that he was somehow dropping out or suspending his campaign. Not what was needed right before several critical primaries.

very well said RP08isHOPE

The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny. James Madison

Come on people-the

Come on people-the revolution never ended. It started with us and only we can end it. So don't end it. Know the enemy will do anything.

KittyC says-I just talked to

KittyC says-I just talked to campaign HQ and spoke to Andrew. He told me that "Ron is taking this all the way, you do know that. He hasn't given up at all" and "sometimes they have a ghost writer write the messages".

I told him that I was aware that congressmen and senators will give "talking points" to their staff ,who in turn, will compose the messages and/or speeches.

This may be a "creative" staff member. He's going to look into it and find out what is going on... In the meantime, I asked if he could post the clarification from staff (in "Daily Dose") on the main page of the website" as this "message from Ron" has done some harm. He told me that they had "started some damage control."

Can we update the title?

From "last night" to Feb 9th letter. I'd hate to see the topic still collecting comments next week as if it were really "last night".

It sure didn't jive with that conference call we had with Ron on Thursday night! I also mentioned that to him.

He CAN run 3rd Party and maintain his seat

Ron Paul wants to make sure he gets the Republican nomination for his congressional seat. That primary election is on March 4. He has one month to do it. Once he's got that sewn up, he can focus back on the presidential campaign, including going third party if he wants to. Both the Libertarian party and the Constitution Party have their nominating conventions in late April or early May. And if he loses the primary election, then he would still be able to go third party. I think we'll have a better idea of how this is going to play out in the next month or so. In the meantime, it can't hurt to keep donating, keep spreading the word, keep working in the trenches.

Is anyone able to get to the comments on the

Daily Dose for either this post by Dan McCarthy or for the RP email from Friday night? Are they overloaded or blocked, or is it my computer?

How could anyone be confused?

Oh wait...because they didn't actually READ the letter. They just saw it, got panicked, skimmed, freaked and came here to post wildly.

If anyone didn't read it, or missed the meaning, let me post the key parts for you here:

"...this Revolution is permanent."

"Millions of Americans -- and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound money, no income tax, and peace."

"With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get."

"Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run."

"...I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican."

"I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me."

Because you can't read?

Sadly some of you can't read and Dr. Paul NEVER said he quit.
But, the message from the lack of $8.4 money bomb was, he needs to scale back because after all, the champion of frugality is NOT going into debt for this.

If you wanted him to NOT scale back you should have emphasized the Go for the Gold and done what you did on tea party day.

Sorry but he is taking his cue from YOU.

bull

knock knock "Hello?"

Hi! Hi, I'm your neighbor and was curious, do you know who Ron Paul is?

Why sure, he's that ten term congressman who's running for an eleventh term because he doesn't believe in term limits. He's a isolationist racist who hires idiots that can't respond to inquries, he looks like a goof who is too polite to get in the debate and make a point that isn't fed to him. He has an agenda that attracts North American Union conspiracy wackos and racists like David Duke, prostitutes, drug addicts, and antiwar cowardly hipocrites. Yeah, Ron Paul the Republican who stays with a party he nationally accusses of having lost it's way. He's LOST and he's a loser. Grow up and vote Obama.

Door slams.

Ron Paul needs to remove himself from his YES people and get a reality check. The majority of Americans think he didn't run to win and he doesn't want to win and that's why he kept his congressional seat in the first place. This camppaign was designed to attract new blood to the GOP and now it's trying to keep people who feel absolutely duped by Ron Paul in the GOP. The message was bait. That's all.

Ron Paul is a fraud, who wants to retire as a congressman. Leave him alone alrady and let him live out his life writing articles for anyone who'll publish them. Good Luck congressman Dr. Ron Paul. we hardly knew yah!

Curious

I have to question why someone of your most enlightened position would waste his time at a site like this that is filled with a bunch of kooks?
Please don't ever presume to call me neighbor because if you were one of mine I would build a very tall security fence protecting anyone I cared about from you. Much like the one that your sponsors have failed to place along our border.
Lets do this simple so you might understand. About your anitwar hypocrite statement. Perhaps someone who has never served in the military is your choice to send young men and women off to die in a senseless war. That is unless you can make sense out of a war we could never end but that makes an incredible profit for the war merchants and bankrupts us into selling our kids into virtual slavery.
Your comments regarding Dr. Paul being an isolationist are laughable. You obviously are of limited conceptual understanding as to what nonintervention actually means. Speaking of the limited mentality, anyone who thinks he "makes a point that isn't given to him" has never listened to him finish his statements. I will concede to you that it might take an average or above normal intelligence to perceive what he says but it is dead on as far as our current situation is in this once great nation.
As far as your allegations of people of nefarious reputations such as David Duke, prostitutes, (which by the way was a setup by Tucker) and drug addicts, perhaps we should just remove that segment of population from our society. First you disenfranchise then you eliminate. Hmmmm, I believe we saw that occur about 70 years ago in Germany. Kind of like when they just printed more money to pay off a staggering war debt with nothing to back it up. We will most certainly be able to add one more group to your list of miscreants if Clinton, Obama, McCain or Huckabee takes the office of President.....thats gun owners.

Too funny Granger

Welcome to our site.. we're used to people like you, so feel free to attempt a derailment. What people like you don't understand.. this is a movemewnt.. it's not about the man.

Now go back to your television to see what your next orders are and leave the real work to real people.

HERE HERE!!

everybody should read this, this guys knows what he's talking about unlike 90% of the people on this site!

Cool!

We must be making the powers-that-be sweat a little if they're sending in trolls on the weekends now.. welcome to the site!

Eh it gets

a little tiresome though.

Grow up & vote for Obama?! LMAO! A person votes for the Obamas and Hillarys of the world precisely so they don't have to grow up!

nanny-state

pcampbell...so true, so true.

Good Patriots...

Nothing is certain, and Dr. Paul realizes that. Donations are down, and he wants to make it all the way to the convention no matter what. He also wants to make sure that if he doesn't get the nomination, that he still has a voice in congress. Either way we win. His message still fights on. I will continue to donate and spread his message. Even if he doesn't get the nomination, which we will not know for awhile, my wife and I will still write his name in if we have too. Keep fighting the good fight, and ignore the negative. As for Saul the fake Paul supporter, you're days are numbered. We are onto your game. Just remember, kharma baby, kharma.

Mixed Feelings Here

I don't know, I have mixed feelings here.

FOR RP staying in GOP Prez race w/no 3rd party run:

1. We have an opportunity to change the future of the GOP by continuing on wihin the party, laying the foundation for future Paul candidates to run on the platform of Liberty within the GOP and have it eventually domino over to our country.
2. Dr. Paul gets to spread his message of Freedom through the GOP vessel until the final bell rings and afterward Dr. Paul gets to keep his seat and have a much louder voice for the people while in Congress.
3. We're still in it, the delegate count isn't won yet!

AGAINST RP limiting himself to the GOP Nomination:

1. I'm just not certain that the GOP( or the Dems) are the right mode of "change". The leadership is so deeply entrenched and disconnected with the Constitution that it seems like a futile effort.
Dr. Paul has support from every freedom-loving American, that transcends all political, age, race, and religous barriers. I believe once people start paying more attention to the presidential race this summer, his support in a 3rd party effort running against McCain & Hillary in Nov. would be formidable!
With the benefit of more time to spread the message and a much more narrow field of candidates, Dr. Paul could really make a difference this year.

2. When opportunity knocks, OPEN THE DOOR. Yes, you may lose your congressional seat, but isn't it worth the risk for the betterment of our country?
3. We'd have to win nearly all remaiining delegates from every state from this point forward, to win the GOP nomination.

Third Party run possible after March 4

Ron Paul's congressional Republican primary is March 4. He has to focus his energies there, because his opponent is attacking him for running for president and ignoring his district. After the gets the nomination March 4, he is then free to pursue the Republican nomination or go third party.

I think he'll go third party, but if he does, he certainly won't announce it until after the March 4 primary. The Constitution Party and Libertarian Party conventions aren't until late April and early May.

What I'm wondering is if he could be nominated by both the LP and the CP -- and still remain in the race for the Republican nomination and go to the convention. That would make things interesting.

READ MY LIPS....

He CANNOT run 3rd party and maintain his Congressional Seat - PERIOD!

He's said that himself.

SO PLEASE IGNORE ANY THREAD WITH THIS UNDER DISCUSSION and decease and desist from discussing it on any Ron Paul sites - PLEASE!!!

With him as our LEADER, whether in Congress or the White House, HE WILL STILL BE OUR LEADER and by our numbers, we will have power!

True Patriots...

...have no mixed feelings. They don't give up, the don't post FUD, or third party fantasies.

The GOP may not have stuck to its platform in recent years, but it is still the best mouthpiece for RPs ideas and HE KNOWS IT, so why don't YOU get with the program?

Tell me...

Who the hell are you to imply that someone is not a 'true patriot'?

You have no idea what other people have done or sacrificed, and to imply that someone is not a 'true patriot', simply because they do not agree with you is short sighted and ignorant at best. Police yourself, before you try to do so with other people.

The GOP confuses the issue

It is clear the GOP does not respect the Constitution. Our respect for the Constitution is what separates us from the GOP. We need to educate people on the choice between pro-Constitution or Republican/Democrat. Being associated with the GOP only serves to cloud what makes us different.

It is not a matter of "getting with the program", it is a question of whether or not you have the faith that your values can stand on their own. I can not understand this GOP dependency that some have, as if the GOP affirms who they are. I support the Constitution and recognize the GOP does not. George Washington warned us about political parties and we see why today. "The party" provides an easy rational to compromise values.

Sorry, I'm allergic to Kool-Aid in all forms

That's why I'm a (L)libertarian.

"Welcome to 2008: The Year of Ron Paul!"

If RP doesn't get the

If RP doesn't get the nomination, its a good thing for him to keep his seat in Congress and then be joined by other RP style Congresspeople. We need him to have a voice within Gov't. RP already tried 3rd party and he knows what they are up against. Even Ross Perot with a gazillion dollars and a lot of influence got nowhere with a 3rd party. You think RP gets no media play now - he won't even get invited to any debates as 3rd party. The coverage will be pitiful if any. Further, RP is not our puppet. He is a grown man with his own will. He doesn't owe us anything and he can't please everyone with any decision anyway. I trust him to make a logical decision and I, for one, am with him and the freedom revolution for the long haul. I hope you and others come to the same decision.

Voice in Govt?

What are any examples of Ron Paul's voice in government for his 20 years of service? You said it when you said "joined by other RP style congresspeople". How do we tell the difference between "other RPs" and other John McCains, etc? We can not trust the media. We should be able to tell them by their party affiliation and it is the GOP's own fault that being a member does not tell you anything about their views on the Constitution. From how RP has been treated by the GOP, I am left with having to believe they actively seek to silence any serious talk of the Constitution.

I think we all accept Romney was told to drop from within the party, and is it not reasonable to suspect that Peden or whatever that stooges name is running against RP in his congressional primary was also put in by the GOP on purpose.

I see a pattern to the GOP's actions that I do not like at all.

Regarding #2, Ron Paul needs

Regarding #2, Ron Paul needs to retain his congressional seat. If he does not that would be a bit damaging to his Presidential campaign. Also, it is imperative that he can still fight for us in DC if by some chance he does not win the Presidential nomination and/or election.

Regarding #3, as long as no candidate has 51+% of the delegates, then that means we go to a brokered convention. There is still a very good possibility of that happening. A brokered convention would mean that Ron Paul has a great chance of succeeding with one of the most incredible upsets in the history of U.S. politics.

Go canvassing: a new reason

A little sheepishly, we knocked on a door. The very first lady was all up on Ron Paul, the media blackout, glad we were out. With Mitt, it turns out, everybody wanted to know about Ron Paul, and fully half the people I talked to are now leaning toward him. It was UNBELIEVABLE. I am so shy, I had just been dropping stuff at the door, but I was well rewarded for knocking. The press lies, the vote is a lie, but if we keep speaking, our voice will get louder, and louder, and LOUDER...

yep

That is what I was posting last night. People were not reading the whole email.

Even AOL news got it right and was reporting today that Ron Paul was not going to quit the race.
