HOLY COW BATMAN@@@@ALASKA REPUBLICAN PARTY REMADE######

That's right...

Today we held our local district conventions and selected our delegates to the State convention in Alaska. We turned out the Paulites! Not only did we get a clear majority of delegates to the state (we were very organized and completely stealthy in this - it was like a surprise attack by Ron Paul), but listen to this...

While we were there we voted on platform changes for the state GOP. You will not believe some of the stuff that passed!

The most controversial one was the one that I proposed. There was a section in the platform that said the Republican Party of Alaska opposes any sort of gaming (gambling) in the state on the basis that it is harmful to families and communities. I proposed striking that out entirely, from the standpoint of personal and economic liberty, and after huge debate and three recounts my movement PASSED by ONE VOTE! So now that its passed the local level, it'll go on to state!

Guess what else?

Another Ron Paul supporter proposed striking out and replacing a section that said something to the effect of: "The Republican Party of Alaska supports the aggressive world wide war on terror and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan." The replacement that PASSED read something like: "We will not support military intervention in a foreign country unless a constitutional, congressional declaration of war is made." How HUGE is that?

And perhaps the craziest win of the day, in my opinion, was when we passed a movement to change the party platform to read that we, as Republicans, support the legalization of industrial hemp. LOL!

Lots of other awesome platform changes passed, having to do with state's rights, educational choice, and immigration. Everything was in line with the Ron Paul platform, and pretty Libertarian sounding!

The other conventions that took place elsewhere today and earlier in the week have also reported high numbers of Ron Paul delegates to the state convention, and similar interesting successes at their local level. It really looks to me like we can go to the state convention and ENACT some extremely controversial party platform changes! It would be so great to see the neo-cons have to run independent for failing to endorse the Republican Party platform, and so great to see them squirm in terror when they realize that RON PAUL has TAKEN OVER THEIR PARTY!

Anyway... I just had to share this!

TALK ABOUT TELLING THE FUTURE IN ADVANCE...

Remember the Delegate Wars articles...this happened before any of the delegate wars took place!!!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane

It is VERY energizing to be reminded of all we have accomplished (thus far!!!) :)

The reason they want to

The reason they want to outlaw online gambling is for 1 reason only.

Most of the sites are in other countries therefore NOT TAXABLE. That is the only reason. I don't see anyone trying to shut down vegas and besides casinos are popping up in states all over the country but they are taxable so that makes it ok.

Alaska suddenly looks a

Alaska suddenly looks a whole lot warmer! I'm beaming as I read this.

this deserves another go!

this deserves another go!

Beyond awesome!

You're my hero. Keep up the really great work...and way to go, all Ron Paul Alaskans!!

4GodinVA is confused

Which is very typical for many of us including myself after generations of propaganda by the media.
Of course gambling is bad for families, kids, their dogs, and every little creature out there. Oh yea, and you get hemmoroids by sitting too long on the gambling chair.

However I don't think that there are many people who died from it. Tens of thousand of people die or get hurt in the car, plane, alcohol, tabacco and just by simply falling down on the iced road or by stepping too many times on the rake. Doh...
So should the GOVERNMENT baby-sit us by banning the cars, planes, alcohol, ice weather or garden equipment? Come on, get a life.

Government has no rights to decide what is good/bad for you. It is the job for yourself and your family to make a responsible decision.
Government is there to protect your freedom of choice, not to impose it's will. Well that was the intent originally...

So start thinking for yourself and you will find out that you are smart, beautiful and full of potential.

Unfortunately, Gaming IS HARMFUL to Famlies and Communities ...

Libertarianism, just like anything else, can be taken too far. People need protection from Big Government, Big Business, and Big Mafia, too. Who do you thing the gaming kingpins are? Pillars of the community, perhaps?

I;m very happy to hear about the success of RP supporters in Alaska (and may we have many more victories like this) but let's think things through before we throw out the baby with the bathwater. Some laws, some prohibitions are absolutely necessary to maintain a wholesome social structure. If children can't thrive in our society, then our fight is for naught.
I'm not supporting Ron Paul so that we can turn this country back into the wild, wild West!

How is it society should tell us what do do?

I am from the AK district 16 and cosigned the gambling prop not because I am from NJ and like to gamble !,it is the oppisite I hate gambling and dont do it myself because the deck is always stacked and I work to hard for a long shot! I believe it is not the governments job to instill virtue it is the familys job you know mom and dad and when you think society can raise children you get school shootings! This is a open society and we must be free to make our own choices and mistakes but republicans believe in a free market with people making free chioces and did GOD say something about freedom of choice?BLACKJACK LOL

You misunderstand

You misunderstand libertarianism if you think it can be "taken too far." The ideology allows for people to seek justice when they are harmed -- in fact it depends on such action being taken. If a gambler harms his community, he better have a good lawyer. If he harms his family, he better have an understanding wife.

Yes, this does mean that someone must be harmed before action is taken. Libertarianism is necessarily a reactive ideology rather than a proactive one. The alternative is big government and preemptive criminal codes, where we are restricted before we even think of exercising free will. But those innocent victims you seek to protect with your police state will still be harmed in spite of it, as we see today (people still commit premeditated murder even in states where they know they may face the death penalty).

So, since the outcome is the same in either system (victimization, arrest, trial, punishment), I prefer the one where there are no preemptive laws against my behavior. The big government system relies on fear of the state to control bad behavior before it occurs. Is this how we want our descendants to live, in a state of fear? Fear of losing your shirt if you harm your neighbor should be plenty of incentive to respect his rights, without fear of wearing the wrong expression when you board a flight or appearing too nervous when you get pulled over for speeding.

Liberty for Dummies

So what if it is?

Does the harm done by gambling exceed the harm done by trying to suppress it? Harm including military-style armed police breaking into private homes to arrest the people who like to play a friendly game of poker, for example?

-jcr

I make my living gambling

Since I retired from engineering about 18 months ago, I've made my living gambling. I gamble in casinos called NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX. I'm doing quite well, thank you, and no apologies. I used to play backgammon, and count cards at blackjack tables. The market is much better.

4godinva

i respectfully disagree with you

We have only two choices

We can either encourage the creation of a moral society or wallow in immorality Unfortunately, where human beings are concerned, immorality tends to be default mode.

Many people seem to like what Dr. Paul says. They like his economic policy, his war policy, but they have no intention of giving up their pet vices. If Ron Paul is anything, he is a moral man. Moral men can be libertarians because their moral convictions restrain them from taking advantage of weaker men and even encourage them to defend the less advantaged, often at great personal sacrifice..

Immoral people do not live by these principles ... they lie, they cheat, the steal, they murder, they take advantage of others whenever it suits their purpose.

When you mix libertarianism and immorality you get tyranny ... EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW!

I do believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said that our constitution was only suited for a religious and moral people. He was right about that!.

If you want the government to enforce morality...

Then you're no supporter of Ron Paul.

-jcr

Every single law is a statement of morality

Most of us do NOT want anarchy. What is anarchy? It is what we have right now! It is a refusal to enforce the highest laws of the land. And as you can see with the current unpleasantness, paradoxically anarchy is often accompanied by totalitarianism at some level.

What most people want, what the founders wanted, is limited government at every level, confined to its proper function and jurisdiction. At the local level, we have every right to defend community standards to protect our families, eg.:

- restrictions on casinos & public gambling (free to do it in your own home though),
- restrictions on public displays that are offensive to the community (eg people walking nude in the street, gay pride parades)
- protection of private and public property
- pornography and exploitation of children
- etc.

It is quite ironic to me that some of you socially liberal libertarians came about your social views because of the government school system, and not because of the influence of family, church and local community!! Feel free to keep them, but if you expect everyone in the freedom movement to embrace them, I've got a surprise for you: it's not going to happen!

Dr. Paul has stated several times that he is NOT an anarchist. He wouldn't get my vote if he were an anarchist.

Immorality is a product of our system right now

People tend to give up their responsibilities and morals and stop regulating themselves in favor of the machine. Liberty teaches morality and restraint. People have to stand on their own feet in order to learn how to stand, you cannot make them into robots through a system. Otherise they are no longer human. Under the current system we have declining morality and people expect the state to regulate them. Tv seems to be the worst addiction right now, even to the point that 90% of people don't think critically anymore.

Gaming Harmful

(Gaming Harmful) I have read the article and well done to all involved on our behalf. I want to address the 4GodinVA point about gaming if I may:
gaming IS Harmful to families and so are drugs and booze in certain cases. I submit from personal experience, thankfully passed by, that misery is likely to be the cause of addictions. I hope that in a new world order (Ron Pauls version that is)- that folk can identify with themselves and their loved ones and have something other than addictive habits to adhere to but enjoy peace and freedoms instead. That's the whole point of the Ron Paul dream isn't it?

'I always think of all you canvassors and precinct leaders at the front line.
Good luck out there &Thank you. It's appreciated'.-fip -U.K

Gaming, drugs, booze CAN be

Gaming, drugs, booze CAN be harmful if you imbibe in them or use them carelessly. It's an adult decision that can harm or kill you. But you know what's more important, when you have the freedom to choose for yourself.

INCREDIBLE!!

This is the most inspiring article I have read probably ever!
We're still in the process of infiltrating our county GOP and so far it's been a thankless, painful process. Success such as yours is exactly the motivation we need to keep going! Thank you for posting this and I look forward to more success stories from around the country.

Has anyone else had any similar experiences in their own local

GOP ? either in a county meeting or say local town meeting??

Strong local gov't will trump the federal gov't

I agree. I'm looking into a local part-time office.

What if everyone did this at the local level????

I mean think about it... IF ALL THE MEETUP GROUPS TOOK OVER THEIR LOCAL COUNTY LEVEL REPUBLICANS AT THE MEETINGS!!!!! JUST LIKE IN ALASKA!!! We really could change and control the tide of the Republican party all over the nation.

Thanks for the words of

Thanks for the words of hope!

That story made me feel so good. All of those things are awesome.

And..more people need to take a few minutes to learn about industrial hemp and it's benefits. People hear "hemp" and assume it's for smoking. Industrial Hemp has no THC and has 1001 uses.

Bravo! Bravo!!!!!

I might join the Republican Party

As a LP member, former LP Congressional candidate, etc...I always saw that the only way I could have ever truly won an office would be to run as a major party candidate. At least as far as my local politics went (I would have had to collect signatures from 5% of the registered voters, not 5% of those that had voted, to get on the ballot as a Libertarian candidate. Suffice it to say, I did not gather the 15k signatures).

But as far as my principles go, I could not run as a Republican. To join the party and run as a candidate I would have merely had to state/vow/plege/whichever that I would support the Republican Party. As a libertarian I could not bring myself to support such big government facists...even merely saying it just to sneak past the "guards" so to speak was not within me. It would have meant that I was not principled and honest, and would have defeated the purpose of me running in the first place.

But...with Ron Paul showing us the way...I have signed up to be precinct chairman of my precinct in the Republican Party. I had no qualms of joining as I was supporting the Republican Party in the only way I know how...by working to get Ron Paul elected.

It is this door that will allow me to work just as feverishly as I did in the LP, but within the RP. Who says we can't change the plank of the Republican Party to match much more closely that of the Libertarian Party. The old guard is dying off anyway, they need this new generation to do what we in the LP had wanted for so long...to turn the political dynamic into a "big government" vs "small government" race at all levels.

I see now that this is truly just the beginning.

Fab. This is how it's

Fab. This is how it's done..precincts, delegates and planks.

I hope all learn it an apply----it has to be done at the local level...just like you did! Congrats!!!

Fantastic
