Lee Iacocca looking for Ron Paul
This is a copy of an email I received today:
In his new book, Lee Iacocca Says:
'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder.
We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course'
Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!'
You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore.
The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?
I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis!
Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.
On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes.
A Hell of a Mess
So here's where we stand. We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves.
The middle class is being squeezed every which way. These are times that cry out for leadership.
But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.
Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?
We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.
Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane, or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm.
Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan.
Figure out what you're going to do the next time.
Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we
going to do about it?
Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.
I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?
Had Enough?
Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope, I believe in America .
In my lifetime I've had the privilege of living through some of America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: the 'Great Depression', 'World War II', the 'Korean War', the 'Kennedy Assassination', the 'Vietnam War', the 1970s oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I've learned one thing, it's this: 'You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a call to 'Action' for people who, like me, believe in America . It's not too late, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the crap and go to work. Let's tell 'em all we've had 'enough.'

I submitted this comment to the above website, enjoy...
Dear Mr. Iacocca,
I have long admired your integrity and patriotism to our country. Notice I said our "country" and not our "government". I purposely drew this distinction as It seems to be a topic of some confusion for most Americans nowadays. Dissent from government is more closely related to patriotism than is the seemingly mindless following of this current administrations destructive foreign and domestic policies. I too often wonder "where have all our leaders gone".
Well, I have found such a leader in Dr. Ron Paul, a humble man of principled integrity responsible for assisting over four thousand new lives into this world as an Obstetrician and current Congressmen from Texas. I am a 43 year old former Marine and police officer who has never voted. I have always stood by my convictions by not voting for a person chosen by the media, supported by the Military Industrial Complex that President Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy so keenly warned us about. I have been holding on to the idealistic use of our most sacred right to vote for a Statesmen I could in good conscience support. One who's unyielding principles and courage would bring the elusive higher moral ground back that this great country was once known for the world round. That man is Dr. Ron Paul. I humbly request that you explore the manner with which this great man has carried himself throughout his life. He is a wonderful family man, a Veteran, a Doctor and principled Constitutionalists. I do believe his reputation as a fiscal conservative coupled with his deep understanding of our failed monetary system and Austrian economics would serve our Country well in these times of almost certain financial ruin. The Mainstream Media is up to their old tricks again by subverting his bid for the Presidency by colluding together to eliminate any positive exposure to the American people. I realize his message of personal responsibility and freedom from governments heavy hand is not particularly popular with the neo conservatives who have hijacked the republican party. It is also quite evident that their control is not confined to the white house but extends to the far reaches of the established Media. I can only pray that men such as yourself would examine this man's record of voting in the Congress along with his respect for the rule of law and our beloved CONSTITUTION!
Warmest regards,
Stephen Dupont
Lee Iacicca Sounds Like a Socialist Democrat,
rather than a conservative. His premise in the intro sounds good, but he talks about Hitlery, needing to bring back Madeline Halfbrite, and John McCain teaming with Joe Lieberman, which is worse than what we have now. He says his man is Bill Richardson, which desires to grant amnesty to the illegal aliens, and never seen a social program he didn't like. We can't fix our country by taxing the rich, and creating more social programs, that give people crutches, instead of making them walk on their own. He seems to be more like Kucinich lite, which is terrible for America. We need government to get out of lives, rather than putting more in our lives. The biggest problem is the socialist education system, that teaches kids practically nothing about the Founders vision of government or the world they are going out into. The education system needs to be run by the counties and communities, which they reside, with the state providing checks and balances. The PC, diversity, and self esteem crap, needs to be eliminated, because it only leads to less individual rights and freedom. If we would go back to following the Constitution, as it was written, we would solve all the problems in this country. However, the elite powers know this, and will do everything in their power to keep this from happening.
It's not about "leaders" it's about individual rights
What do you want to bet that his idea of "leadership" is to muck around with the economy and our lives? What we need is to be left the hell alone! It's not about having great leadership it's about RESPECTING THE CONSTITUTION!
yea, but
It takes a leader to make sure we stick to our constitution, while all these corrupt people, operating through the authority of beuracracies are attempting to take our FREEDOM.
There is a difference between a leader and a ruler, a leader leads his people out of love for them, a ruler rules his people with fear and disdains them as less then he.
Hence our Leader of the rEVOLution.
The Seeds of Truth we Plant today will grow to be the Tree of Freedom tommorow.
Ron Paul Needs Votes Here
A guy like Lee would do well to promote Ron. You have to click on the link to see more candidates to get Ron Paul to show up on the list. DONT give up so easy people.
Register and vote on this thing.
And vote on the other candidates still in the Race,
We need "Presidential Idol"
(Not including RP), it's extremely hard to believe that these candidates are the 'best" that our country can come up with.
With all of the soap opera bickering (let alone "foot in mouth" apologies, dancing, crying, making music, burkha jokes, virgin jokes...), can you imagine what the foreign leaders must be thinking of the candidates/*our country*?
Can you imagine those same candidates actually *thinking first* and controlling their mouths during critical negotiations? Given their documented flip-flopping, would foreign leaders ever trust them?
My thought is that instead of making laws about term limits, that each person vote against every single incumbent, *unless* there is specific evidence that the incumbent has been doing what's best for his/her constituency, so long as those same actions weren't harmful to the country as a whole.
Just think if we had a major turnover how many of the behind the scenes "relationships" would be totally disrupted!
Kind of like "Survivor" mixing up the initial teams-
Visit the site
Answer the scoreboard questions (RP is the highest rated candidate) and email Lee and request his endorsement. That's what I did!
Thank you
I didn't initially see Ron Paul listed on his site and mistakenly said he wasn't there - he's on the second page of the candidates scoreboard. Thanks for making that clear and thanks for emailing Lee.
Answer...
They are in prison, or died of a drug overdose.
That's what happened to the best and brightest minds of my generation silly! The drug war took 'em out.
I agree with Mr. Iacocca,
this group of bums in Congress need to be thrown to the curb. Vote them ALL OUT!!
During the mid-1970s the US economy went into its biggest slump since the Great Depression, with the auto industry hit particularly hard by the Arab oil embargo among other things. Iacocca was at the helm of Chrysler when TSHTF and subsequently Chrysler was bailed out.
This was before NAFTA when American cars were actually built in America. B Clinton shoved NAFTA down our throats. All of the American automakers now have factories in Mexico. I have a Toyota built in Kentucky. How's that for irony?
I spoke with Lee's secretary at length months ago to endorse RP
She said they would welcome hearing from Ron Paul and also stated that Lee wanted to know who would be on Ron Paul's team or any candidtates team before he endorsed anyone.
I also forwarded literature and information for her to hand to Lee. She assured me he would get it and read it.
She also stated that Lee was also more interested in raising political awareness than in backing a candidate.
This info was passed on the Kent Snyder months ago. Likely they called for a meeting with Lee and asked for his endorsement. The campaign was provided the direct email and phone numbers to call Lee Iacoca.
Maybe we can interest him in PowerVote?

For all of you kiddies who were still
messing in your pants back in the 70's... (or hadn't even been born yet)
Lee Iacocca is a great man and a great American. The situation he was facing at that time from the Japanese was what used to be called "dumping" (selling your product for less than the cost to manufacture it). It's the same strategy the Chinese are using today. Simply subsidize your industries to "buy" U.S. markets (and in the process, kill your U.S. competitors. It's a form of economic warfare (just as effective as launching a missle or firing a gun) and it threatens the existence of our economy and our nation.
Lee didn't ask for government intervention until Chrysler was being literally pummelled to death by predatory competition from the Japanese. It wasn't a "bailout"... he simply asked for loan guarantees to help them battle the impending threat (and all the money was repaid with interest). The U.S. auto industry is a strategic asset and accounts for about ten percent of all jobs. All you kid-does driving around in your Camrys and Civics might wanna re-consider how much your car choice effects your country (but that's another subject...)
An endorsement and some promotion of Ron Paul from Lee Iacocca would be a very big deal, particularly to the 50+ year old category (which is where we're lagging). People have respect for his opinions and commercials featuring Mr. Iacocca's endorsement and a "wake-up call" could turn this thing around in a big way.
Lee Iacocca is to industry what Ron Paul is to politics. Show some respect.
Terrific Businessman, Lousy Politician
Iacocca is as likely to endorse Ron Paul as Oprah is.
See "Other" candidates
Lee has relegated Ron to the "Other" section.
Search through all the small print and find "Score more candidates"
only then will Ron Paul appear with all the other marginalized candidates.
Where have we seen this before??? ;-/
My response to lee I
His name is Ron Paul. I wouldn't expect you to know who he is. He's not for balling out people who can't run a company without getting bailed out by the government. Get ride of the subsidies for big business and the poor and we the people will show you how to produce and compete. We've been waiting for the older generation to wise up and get this big government off our backs and take off these silly little hand cuffs.Since you all don't seem capable of it please move over and get out of our way. We will break the handcuffs off ourselfs and we'll restore this nation. Big government has failed your generation and the baby bombers think their will be this big dinner setting their for them too. Wake up my dear countrymen. We have tied our doller to the very person we are at war with The only thing that props our dollar up is oil. These people are going to switch to the euro for oil then this almighty dollar is toast. There will not be any subsidies then my friend. Federal government has failed. We the people are the only ones capable of holding the power of this nation. Not Corp. or federal or state government not global government for sure. No my friend its we the people who are the ones that are the leaders. You ask were we are? We are running for president right now. I find it interesting you didn't know that. His name is Ron Paul for we the people.
Yeah and where has he been
Yeah and where has he been last year as our R3volution was forming? I read that excerpt 2 1/2 yrs ago.
Every single day more people
Every single day more people are learning about Ron Paul for the first time. It's our job to help Ron Paul bring his message to the people.
Maybe Mr. Iacocca did not know about Ron Paul when he wrote that or maybe we just need to let him know that we want his support. I just emailed him.
Didn't he get a bailout from
Didn't he get a bailout from the government to save Chrysler in the 1970s? I think he endoresed John Kerry for president in 2004, so he is a big government, subsidy loving guy.
Yes, he did.
Even though it was in the form of the taxpayers assuming the risk of his company going under, he's still a corporate welfare queen. To hell with him.
-jcr
Let's give the guy a chance.
Let's give the guy a chance. People can change. But, if he endorses a different candidate - well, then I am with you.
Lee I. said all that? Wow, how old is he? Can someone
Lee I. said all that? Wow, how old is he? Can someone get in touch with him, he should be in public and endorsing Ron Paul!
