why is RP as congressman so important?

Why are people focusing all their time and effort on getting Ron Paul reelected to congress now, and forgetting the presidential run?

What exactly is so important about Ron Paul in congress? He can't do crap there. Remember how he is known for being the only "1 vote" when it's 351-1 or whatever?

None of his bills ever get passed. He can never sway the votes on bills, and he never has.

Him in congress = useless. We need to get him to a better job, like a cabinet position where he can actually do something, if we can't get him to be president.

Or maybe governor of a state or something. If he is governor of texas, I would move there.

Because

We'll have anywhere from 3-6 followers of Ron Paul as new members of congress this year's election. If he is not president, then we will need to have him remaining in congress to give leadership to this new bloc.

Who are those 3 to 6

Who are those 3 to 6 candidates? I wasn't aware of there being that many. Any who look like they have good chances to win?

This is why it is important:

It is so important because if he doesn't win the presidential race, and he loses his seat in the House of Representatives, we will have lost ground. One vote against the rest of Congress is better than a Congress that unanimously ignores the Constitution.

We need to continue to fight to get Ron Paul the Republican nomination for president, but we must also ensure that he will not lose his seat in Congress if he does not get the nomination. And then we must fight to put other people that share Ron Paul's views in Congess alongside him, and we may see those scales of Congressional voting slowly begin to tip in our favor.

Do you really think if we get Ron Paul into the White House, all of America's problems are going to just disappear? He's going to have one hell of a fight against Congress, just like he always has. We need to change that, too.

That is why one seat in the House of Representatives really is important.

Ron Paul for President pledge

A grassroots movement to draft current GOP presidential contender Ron Paul into an Independent bid for the White House. (if he fails to garner the GOP nomination) This website allows you to support a possible general election candidacy by pledging your vote, financial assistance, and/or willingness to collect ballot signatures in the event that Ron Paul announces an Independent run for President of the United States.

Why? INSURANCE!

RP's congressional seat is the fountain of all our hopes. Without it, we would not even be here todqy trying to get him elected to the presidency. We need to be realistic and come to terms with the fact that we will not likely gain the White House. Therefore, in order to keep the revolution alive, we need to keep RP's congressional seat as a voice for return to Constitutional, limited government.

Additional comments

1. Do you really think a President has *power* to just "change the world"? The President has to have Congress create/pass bills for his signature or veto. Any bills passed to RP would need to be *veto-proof* per his extensive voting history.

2. If RP has not been able to get bills passed, that is *our* fault for not electing other federal officials with the same beliefs.

Note how many threads there are for the "movement" to get other like-minded people elected at *all* levels of government.

A very good point Laurie!

A very good point Laurie!

The checks and balances.

It is the Congress majority that decides. But a very popular president can usually sway the majority. Can't he?

Regarding electing other federal officials with the same beliefs. That would solve it of course, but they might be a bit scarce? I mean, Paul's views are not excactly mainstream politics.

Pays everyday bills?

Bird in the hand? It's his current job?

Do we want to lose his voice in Congress, if he didn't become President?

From a purely practical standpoint, if he loses his Congressional seat, the MSM would make a field day of that in relation to any hopes of becoming President.
