Toledo Mayor kicks Marines out of town. They were practicing urban warfare, or was this one of those martial law exercises?
The media is of course making him out to be the bad guy. If you want to send him your support, here is his email:

Take a look at what's going on at Berkeley University when they decided they didn't want the Marine recruiters on campus... every fascist fantasy freak is out there -- some actually calling for the use of baseball bats to take care of the "pinko traitors". The military has training
The military has training facilities that are simulated cities, but they are not inhabited. It is not necesscary for these exercises to take place in actual cities. It is more likely that this is an attempt to get citizens used to military presence in their backyard. That way when Bush declares martial law, everyone will think it is "business as usual".

Wait a minute, I saw Army reserves training here I should say in Camp Pendleton the other day! Is it drilling time or what? I thought they drilled in the summer?
Don't be too paranoid people, loosing guns is not as bad as loosing your life, but remember, what the law doesn't know wont hurt. Become friends with your local gunshop and findout how they work and look into the laws. Rest assured they are here to stay.
The Insurrection Act and and Posse Comitatus were...
repealed by Executive Order last year.
I've read that it becomes law as soon as it is officially printed.
But, someone just said it had to be repealed by Congress.

You know, this just again reminds me that in order to preserve our rights, we have to EXERCISE them as well --- just like a body! If this mayor had just knuckled under and did not do what he did, that would have emboldened the feds even more. Just like the thread that was here recently about the police making "voluntary" searches for guns in homes in the Boston area --- if those people meekly accept it, you know it will only get worse, and those searches would continue and probably not be so "voluntary" after a while. The boiling frog gets a little warmer .....

Bush may think he has trumped it at the Federal level but there is the little issue of the State level. The Mayor is no fool as he knows Posse Comitatus is alive and well because only Congress can overturn it, good for him!!!

I have a different experience
My friend who is in the marines, says he doesn't care if a president follows the constitution or not. Only that he keep the people safe.
He also says that if ordered to take guns from Americans, that he would do so and he'd go door to door, gun ready to go if needed.
I've ran into others like this too.
An order is an order, to him. That frightens me.
Your friend needs some education.
His job is to keep us free, and that comes over an above keeping us "safe".

We all support our troops but as I realist I must point out that they aren't always the most intellectual people you can meet. I was in the army and drove a tank (MOS 19K, if you're that interested). I wouldn't trust most of those who were in my platoon with my car keys let alone a tank. Many who go into the service at this point are: 1. Way too motivated to carry a gun. 2. Want money for school. 3. Have nowhere else to go.
PS. The Marines have the lowest standard on the ASVAB for admission. Ever take one?

but like all Marines, the are all talk,......I know, I used to be one...........the only thing is is that you should tell him he should be prepared to face charges and also he is in violation of the constitution, which goes against his oath and would be a hypocrite its also something in which he should read if he wants to keep his career. I know they tell you do what your told and ask questions later, but the better part of the Corps should question something like that. I know I would. And don't forget, they represent the military, so they try to be politically correct sometimes, so they say the things people want to hear, or should, to prove they are loyal.

My friend's husband was an MP, and he and his friends seemed this type. They were so stupid though. Their idea of fun was gettin really drunk and beating each other up, then when that got boring they'd go down to the barracks and find a "boot' (new Marine), and beat the crap out of him. Of course they wouldn't get in trouble because they'd protect each other and they were the law. That authority wouldn't last long if the Marines revolted, I'm sure there would be a few who would enjoy the revenge.
My son is in the military
and gets out next year and wants to be in the state patrol so I suggested he be an MP..His response was to laugh and say are you kidding and I will not repeat what else he said..but it follows the same lines as you said above

I have read repeatedly that those now entering the army (and perhaps other branches) are asked, in no uncertain terms, if they would shoot American civilians, EVEN MEMBERS OF THEIR OWN FAMILY, if so ordered! WTF is this????

I'm glad my mother taught me all the old-fashioned things like baking bread from scratch, sewing, gardening, etc. I worry how many people will have the skills to cope if thing get really bad. Many people don't know those things nowdays, everything is convenience centered.

My relatives in the Lower 48 think I'm some kind of freak for canning my own jams and salmon, not to mention fishing and gathering wild berries and other foods from the tundra and mountains. Even here, though, we'd be screwed, I think, in the event of something really serious happening, as so much of most people's food comes from out of state. If that were ever cut off, ugh ......

Some villages really do a lot of subsistance hunting and gathering, though --- maybe 80% to 90% of the food in some villages is from the wild. But competition is growing even out in the Bush for some resources.
The richest wild foods are the marine mammals, like seals, walrus and whales (which only natives can legally hunt ---but that's not "discrimination"), but boy, if you didn't grow up eating some of that kind of thing, it is HARD to get down! Fermented beaver tail, anyone? (Salmon) stink heads? "Aged" seal oil? I can tolerate a LOT of weird tastes, but I met my match in the arctic with some of those foods!

The darkness can be bad for some people. It affects me somewhat in late December and January (I'm just tired and lazy), but now that the days here in my area are up to about 8 hours of daylight, it's not so bad. I really like the 24-hour light in the middle of the summer, though!
