April 19, 1775 - The first day of the War of Independence a/k/a Revolutionary War

The day of the "Shot heard round the world" -

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They were fought on April 19, 1775.

For some months, people in the colonies had been gathering arms and powder and had been training to fight the British, if necessary, at a moment's notice.

The night of April 18th, Paul Revere rode through Concord warning everybody about the British attack. So when the British came in to take and attack the Rebels, the Minutemen, Americans who were"ready to fight in a minute," were waiting to attack at Lexington.

"Don't fire unless fired upon. But if they want a war let it begin heres" said Captain John Parker, commander of the Minutesmen.

The first shots were fired just as the sun was rising at Lexington. The militia were outnumbered and fell back. Other British colonists, hours later at the North Bridge in Concord, fought and defeated three companies of the king's troops. The outnumbered soldiers of the British Army fell back from the Minutemen after a pitched battle in open territory.

More Minutemen arrived soon thereafter and inflicted heavy damage on the British regulars as they marched back towards Boston.

Following this the following states would still need to vote:

Pennsylvania - 4/22
Indiana - 5/6
North Carolina - 5/6
Nebraska - 5/13
West Virginia - 5/13
Kentucky - 5/20
Oregon - 5/20
Idaha - 5/27
Montana - 6/3
New Mexico - 6/3
South Dakota - 6/3

Convention in St. Paul - 10/1 - 10/4

I like this theme.

Each day that we fight this new revolution we should reflect on those who got this country started.

Keep up with the history lessons.

meet in state capitols

i think those who cannot go across country should meet in their state's capitol city. i cannot make it to anywhere farther than a few hours away. living in rural southern oregon it just isn't possible to go to vegas or d.c.

I agree with you, that some

I agree with you, that some people just won't be able to travel to DC or Las Vegas, etc... I think having a rally at the state capitols is a good idea.

But for those who can travel, regional locations will help cut the expense over having to travel across the country to one location. It makes for a nice compromise, with 3 large regional rallies and all of the states showing support at their capitols.

Just think of those folks in AK and HI, trying to get to DC. A state capitol rally is almost a no brainer for them.

for me it just isn't that

for me it just isn't that simple. mommy with a 5 month old 3 year old and a husband who is not on the same page w/me and Ron Paul. just isn't going to happen, i can't drag 2 babies by myself over there. not without hubby and/or his support

But you can work on stuff from home for Paul, right?

yup, just send out to all my family and friends tons of emails so much they probably think i am a spammer now, and all of my 200+ myspace friends...

and i got bumper stickers on the house, car and carry slim jims everywhere

any suggestions for other things i can (and others like me) do would be appreciated!

i am thinking i may hit up all the neighbors (maybe bring them cookies too or something) i want to be a precinct leader and at least call/mail everyone even if i can't go door to door they need to hear the message! but hubby thinks i am way too into this and spend too much time on it already...so that is a no go.

the march

The best date for the march is after the colleges are out for the summer and have time to travel.
People need time to arrange to get off from work / or school and if they are renting buses they need time to travel both ways.
Just think of when can people get vacation time. The more the better.

The summer is too late and

The summer is too late and not soon enough. June 3rd is the last primary. We need to give Dr. Paul a push before heading into the final stretch of primary and caucus contests.

April 19th is a Saturday, so college kids will be off from school and will have plenty of time to get back to class by Monday. Same goes with the average American worker. People get off work on Friday, travel to Washington DC, leave Sunday and get home in time to work by Monday.

We have over 2 months. That is a lot of time. There is no more appropriate date. FDR stole our gold on April 19th 1933. The American government butchered hundreds of innocent Americans at Waco and Oklahoma City on April 19th. It's the day of the Revolution, how could we pass that up? It's our day. 233 years later, from 1775 to 2008 we've had enough.

I see your point however, it

I see your point however, it doesn't help Ron Paul get more votes by waiting until school is out. The media attention on the rally will certainly help the 11 remaining states which have primaries from April 22nd and later. This is why the April 19th date is so appealing. It allows for the most impact on the rest of the primary states

it's our history! The shot that was heard around the world!

Wish we were free enough to carry our weapons as were our earlier patriots.

Tail, dog, wag.OK If i say you have a zit you'll stay indoors

Well kids, I was was going to join into the revolution but someone upset me, and you know how I am!
Until someone says they are sorry!

I heard the volley of the muskets. Men fell left and right.
And then our boys found new spirit and at the darkest moment they withdrew leaving us with the battleground and the wounded dying and dead. We only then had time to mourn and regret.

Yes our freedom depends on one or two guys we don't like!

What is to stop Stormfront

What is to stop Stormfront from changing their date if we change ours? Let's say we move it to May 26th, then low and behold Stormfront changes their date to May 26th. See my point? Don't you think that we would so out number them that they would hardly be noticed? Just some thoughts, but I do understand your concern.

nothing. but thats reactive. they have been planning almost..

..three months. weve been planning, what one day. they probably arent changing. we just happen to be picking their day. they will love it.

ron paul 2008

Oh, I thought they chose

Oh, I thought they chose that date after reading what we are planning. I think there are still ways to get around this. For instance don't plan to rally in the same area and choose a different time.

I am actually hoping that there will be other locations, like Las Vegas and Chicago. D.C. is far for me and it will cost a lot more than going to Las Vegas. I think having regional rallies are more affordable and easier for people to get to.Three large rallies will have a national impact and help the remaining primaries.

Trade with all nations; alliances with none. ~Thomas Jefferson

i agree, i think there should be three locations.

chicago is too far north, make it kc or omaha. but the other two i agree with.

would be nice to have 300,000 at each location.

I didn't come up with those

I didn't come up with those cities, someone else did. But I do agree that Las Vegas is an excellent choice. So many tourist from all over will see the rally. Some of those tourist live in states that haven't voted, like my state of NM.

Also NV is a very pro-Ron Paul state, remember he came in 2nd.

I agree with you, a mid-western location is needed.

Washington is huge

we can be in the same city and never even know the other is there.

Judging by the responses,

Judging by the responses, and the polls it is starting to look like we have a date. I think we all know in our hearts what that day is. It burns, my blood pressure is through the roof just typing these words. We all know what April 19th means. It is OUR day. The day of the Revolution.

The March Heard Around The World

The world will be watching. If you support this date, please let Ron know:

703-248-9115 (call tomorrow, it's kinda late right now!)

or just drop a nice line at

http://www.ronpaul2008.co...

It's a practical date. It is a Saturday so alot of people will be off of work and school to attend. People can come from all over the country because a Saturday affords plenty of opportunity to make it home by Monday for work. The historical value speaks for itself. If there was ever a day with destiny America has, it is this day - the 19th of April.

Those 11 states listed on

Those 11 states listed on this thread would greatly benefit if the rally is held before April 22nd. Ron Paul's campaign would get a transfusion of new blood to the revolution.

April 19th for the Revolution! Thanks zooamerica!

April 19th!

For the rally to have an impact on the primaries listed on this thread, it needs to be done before April 22nd. The news media created by the rally will help Ron get more votes.

A couple quick thoughts

After reading through some of these responses - I just wanted to add a few thoughts I had...
1. The "Gold Issue" - I guess it was about a year ago that I first saw the "send us your scrap gold for cash" commercials -(they could've been on for years - I don't know - I just happened to take notice of them around a year ago) - and I told my husband - "you wondered how they would get America to give up their gold & guns without a fight? - where there goes the gold - and one more school shooting and they'll hand over their guns"...and that's it - they will get as much gold, silver, precious gems, etc out of our hands "willingly" - and then they will take the rest of the guns "willingly" (gun control laws) - then there'll be so little left for the government to take by 'force'. And everybody will be sitting around wondering "how did this happen?"

2. The March/Rally Dates - when I heard Dr. Paul speak about a march on Washington early this morning - the 1st date that popped in my head was April 19 (for obvious reasons - duh) - and I immediately sent an "all points bulletin out to my local meetup groups on how we could make that date work - and we are working on it...and I agree that the posting of a "TaxDay Grand Rally" event here - especially under the guise of trying to say the March on Washing date had been set was so UNCOOL. I know POLITICS can make even the best of the best wacky as bucket of worms -- but WE - Ron Paul Supporters - have got to keep reaching above that crazy place - no matter how high we have to go...as our Leader, Ron Paul consistently shows us how to do. Unlike - other candidates that only seek to see how low the other will go to before they go even lower --- let's just say, with Ron Paul as OUR LEADER - as far as our manners, attitude & behavior - we do still adhere to a "gold standard". Let's not do anything that can be a "divider" in our support groups. Let's not do anything that can reflect badly back on the campaign or Ron Paul...there is too much at stake to toss it over petty stuff.

I would like to see the poster of the "taxday grand rally" info submit a retraction for stating that this is "the gate". I don't have the power or authority to make that happen, but it would be a nice start.

And that's my 9.25 cents (inflation-right?) worth.

Chris

Actually, I wanted to stay

Actually, I wanted to stay out of this debate for a date, but....
I think I must get involved in this one:
I LOVE IT. It makes complete sense. June and july is way to far ahead. This is soon but not too soon. I hope this is the day :)
Tell these people

The famous quote

The exact quote is:

Stand your ground
Don't fire unless fired upon
But if they mean to have a war
Let it begin here.

It is after tax season so I can make it

Hopefully people will be fried from paying taxes and will join in. I could not make the July 4th event. But I am 100% in for the 19th.

A Saturday is Ideal

Saturday, April 19th is ideal.

It gives us 9 weeks to prepare.

A weekend will definitely be the best time to hold such an event. People can leave work on Friday, travel like Paul Revere on the night of the 18th, but arrive in Washington, D.C. on the 19th, Saturday. After the march/grand rally (symantics) people will be able to leave and get home by Sunday. This is ideal because most of us are hard working Americans who have families to support and jobs to hold onto so we can take care of our families when we get back safely.

9 weeks is plenty of time to spread the word. A friend of mine has already said he's totally down for the 19th of April because he's got the weekend off - a typical answer, and the best situation for a large turnout.

It's about the numbers, and we need to show up in big numbers. With over 2 months to prepare, I think this gives us adequate time to take care of business at home and work to make preparations.

The date has significance. The date itself is a bold statement. If we can totally rock Washington, D.C. on the 19th, America will pay attention. We can influence the final primary and caucus contests, and perhaps change history.

It's an idea. It IS our message.

The 19th of April IS the Revolution.

The Concord Hymn

by Ralph Waldo Emerson

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, or leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.

please let the people know

please let the people know over at www.ronpaulmarch.com about the 19th of April.

Ron Paul did not "pick" July 4. Also "grand rally" not a "march"

Here is what he said paraphrased:

1. The event would be good coinciding when an important date
2. He is exploring the possibilities
3. The date will be contingent upon how long it takes to prepare and what is available.
4. He will let us know soon
5. He is going to Washington to look at locations.
6. He believes a grand rally would be more manageable than a march.

Here is what he said verbatim:

JONES
When are we going to see a date?...

RON PAUL
Well, it’s going to be soon. I talked to somebody this morning. Matter of fact, I’m on my way back to DC, probably this evening. I am going to be driving by certain areas in DC that are available.
“and right now in my mind I am thinking Memorial Day weekend or 4th of July weekend depending on the space and time and whether people think we need the extra 6 weeks to wait until the 4th of July”…. “I am thinking of just having a grand rally”

Here is what he said...listen for yourself.

75 years ago on April 19, 1933 FDR (communist, kept America in ruins for ten years after the depression and declared marshal law which suspended our Constitutional rights and we've been living under this ever since) stole America's gold.
