Redistribution of Power
I think it's pretty clear that the neocons can't be swayed from their pro-war position... their fear of Islamic jihad is too great.
So rather than engage in unfruitful debate, I think we should approach the issue on the terms of forcing congress to vote on whether we are at war with Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries or are we not. So, although the neocon pundits love to talk about the unfairness of redistribution of weath via taxes (which I agree with) they have no qualms with REDISTRIBUTION OF POWER when it suits them.
The single biggest theme of the Constitution is the idea of checks and balances. It establishes the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government and enumerates which powers each is entrusted with.
Congress has the power to declare war because they are closest to the people they represent. So, when the neocons argue that it's the president's responsibility as commander in chief to defend this nation from various threats, we must point out that IT'S NOT THE PRESIDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DETERMINE WHICH THREATS WE NEED TO DEFEND AGAINST.
I would like to thank RPisGr8 for this idea.

Oh yeah, I forgot that
Oh yeah, I forgot that RPisGr8 suggested that Ron Paul should state that as president the first action he would do would be to call on congress to vote on the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. and make this a primary plank of his candidacy.
I realize if he was president, he could just bring the troops home. However, this would address the redistribution of power problem, which is much harder to pose a credible argument against.
Great idea!
Continue to challenge them -- in their own public forum. Persistant persuation at its finest.
