The March Must Be About The Message, Not The Man
Please listen to me here and listen to me carefully. This is not a thread to discuss 9/11. I repeat: this is NOT a thread to discuss 9/11.
This is a thread to discuss the theme of the march; what the march will be all about.
The following was posted on Daily Paul a short while ago. This thread was met with the exact kind of passionate division that you would expect.
How are we going to get the message out to the 9/11 truthers (who mistakenly believe that Paul agrees that 9/11 was inside job), not to carry "9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB" signs at the March? If they carry signs like this, this will be shown on the news and it's what the public will focus us on if this happens. The public will generalize that we all believe that and are lunatics. This could be a nightmare for the Paul campaign.
Paul said at the debate that 9/11 truthers should stay quiet about it and that they hurt the campaign. So, far it doesn't look like they respect that advice.
(This is not a free speech issue. I'm aware that they have a RIGHT to carry such signs. I'm talking about PURSUADING them not to carry the signs, for the best interest of the campaign.)
This is why we must make it a march centered around the message, not the man. Make it a march for the Constitution. Make it a march for freedom. Then you won't have people discussing whether or not we should "let" people exercise their first amendment rights. Instead, it can be a celebration of people's diverse points of view and God-given right to express them. We won't encourage this collectivist mindset where everyone argues about what hurts Ron Paul and what doesn't and who needs to be censored by the majority. Make it about freedom, not about Ron Paul.
No matter what there are going to be people who don't want to be censored, if it is a Ron Paul rally, there are going to be many people who want to censor (with the good intentions of "protecting" Ron Paul and his campaign). Make it about freedom, not about Ron Paul.
This will also bring others into the fold who aren't necessarily supporting Paul-- civil liberties people, 2nd amendment people, and so on.
Furthermore, even if you were able to persuade every single person who sincerely wants to express a politically incorrect message not to (which will never happen), don't you think our enemies are going to bring out people with controversial signs no matter what to undermine us? It's going to happen, and the media is going to zero in on that small minority like they always do. If we make it a rally about restoring the rule of law and the Constitution, this will insulate the Paul campaign from this kind of thing and prevent division between people who want to express less popular messages (whether sincere or not) and people who want to censor them to "protect" Ron Paul.
Thank you for reading, and please keep the discussion on this thread calm, friendly, and civilized.
"The freedom message brings us together; it doesn't divide us"
- Ron Paul

Why April 15th is BEST
Well said.
We have MANY messeges, but two of the biggest are NO more Federal Reserve and STOP THEFT DAY!!!
So, we already have a strike/march planned for April 15th.
We have international support...so let's use it to further our messege. It is a lot easier to centralize the location to Washington than for people to try to plan for yet another event. (Remember, for April 15th our event will be mirrored around the world...people are already planning to strike/march!!!)
Why April 15th is the best:
April 15th
Why:
1. We NEED people to realize the tax/federal reserve problem. That is why the stand on April 15th was created.
2. We NEED people to remember our stand against the unlawful taxation and the evils of the Federal Reserve...seriously. We NEED that in the history books. We NEED people to remember the huge taxation and the
economic instability from the Federal Reserve.
3. We are already working on a MASSIVE international strike/march for April 15th. (In fact, I received an international email pushing for April 15th this morning....SEVERAL countries are already planning events around April 15th and request that we have our major stand on that day so that it lines up w/ their stand so it can be WORLDWIDE!!!)
4. April 15th is before at least 8 states vote!!
5. It is neither too soon nor too far out (enough time to make travel plans, but not enough for the energy to peter-out)
6. We already have the websites setup to take pledges.
LibertyTax08.com and RonPaulMarch.com
5. We already have videos, emails, and other things surrounding a BIG stand on April 15th...all we would have to do is move it to Washington.
6. People already plan to miss work.
7. We already have international support for April 15th...
8. People driving from the West Coast can drive all weekend and make
it to the march on time.
9. Having it on a day that government officials work (instead of a weekend or holiday) is important.
10. Cheaper airfair on weekdays than weekeneds.
11. It's not a holiday, so people won't be busy.
12. The meadia will either cover us or the lines at the Post Office...seriously, we have a chance to grab media attention BEFORE the states are finished voting!
13. It won't be TOO hot, especially for those of us not used to DC-type heat. (summer=a lot of people w/ heat exhaustion...April 15th is late enouh we won't freeze, but early enough the sun won't cook us)
14. People will be getting their Theft Day refund...to use towards funding an anti-Theft rally!
15. It will keep people more tightly focused because we all know this event, and it can/will be used to advance using loosely related agendas.
Please pass that list on and have people vote for April 15th at http://www.vizu.com/poll-...
Also, send letters...pass on this list if you agree.
Please read the latest on the Daily Dose.
The official campaign is working on this march/rally.

I agree
It's not about Ron Paul. It's about our logical message of small government and demanding that our government obey the constitution.

OK
and this website is called daily PAUL
volunteers are PAULunteers
RON PAUL called for a march on Washington.
Yes, the message is important. But would you have ever heard it and understood it without him? I suspect some will honestly be able to say yes, but many of us heard it from him. He is the one with the track record and experience to make the execution of the movement's goals believable.
RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT
'Live for yourself, there's no one else more worth living for,
Begging hands and bleeding hearts
Will only cry out for more...'
The message is what matters.
The message is what matters. By promoting the message that Ron Paul has introduced so many people to and for which he is the chief representative, we promote his candidacy much more than if we are there because of the cult of personality like other campaigns.
This is a Ron Paul
campaign, and we are supposed to be promoting Ron for President. That's what the march is for. The message of freedom and of the restoration of a constitutional republic is Ron's campaign platform. This march should be used to promote HIM. He is the one running for office, he is the one with the delegates and the money, he is the reason we are all here.
Do not detract from Dr. Paul. Maybe you are well intentioned but I don't care. We need to get Ron elected. We can drool over the message more when we are taking over the Congress.
Ron is the message. He is our standard bearer. We would all do well to remember that.
'Live for yourself, there's no one else more worth living for,
Begging hands and bleeding hearts
Will only cry out for more...'
Ron Paul himself has stated
Ron Paul himself has stated many times that this movement is not about Ron Paul (the man), it is about the message.
A standard-bearer is defined as: "an outstanding leader or representative of a movement, organization, or political party." Ron Paul is indeed our chief standard-bearer, but he is not the only one, and he alone is not the message. He is a representative of the message which unites us and which we all represent. We are all the message, not just Ron Paul.
You act as though marching for the message is not "promoting Ron for president". You say that if we were to unite in Washington in support of the message instead of just the man that would "detract from Dr. Paul." What could be a better testament to Ron Paul's ability to lead and unite this country, and to his viability as a candidate, than for thousands and thousands of people take to the streets to promote the very things he stands for? What could be a better testament to the legitimacy of the movement of which Ron Paul is the central figure than for us to come out and practice what we preach instead of acting like collectivists, and therefore hypocrites? What could be a better way to promote his presidency than by showing that, unlike many supporters of other candidates, the supporters of Ron Paul are not a cult of personality, but rather a group of like-minded individuals supporting a candidate who shares their beliefs and values.

I agree with you

The Seeds of Truth we Plant today will grow to be the Tree of Freedom tommorow.
Although this post is well
Although this post is well intentioned, it is the wrong outlook. I'm no 9/11 truther but, we all need to quit this idea of... "Stop the 9/11 truthers from hurting the campaign, stop the this guy & that group from hurting the campaign or making us look bad". Honestly, the MSM will pick something to make us look bad no matter what we do. If they want to completely ignore the entire march, then they will, and that would be the most destructive, as far as publicity goes. We need to just set a date, agree on it, and go forward with it. Enough with the banning certain people from attending, or trying to persuade them not to voice their views or opinions. Do we see Dr. Paul doing that... NO, all he said was have a march in a few months on D.C. He wants everybody there, and he wants them doing what free people do, express their views weather popular or not. Our government does this sensor crap all the time, and they claim the "best intentions". That's exactly what we're doing, sensoring the 9/11 truthers, etc. for the best intentions of the campaign, and it's wrong.

thefederalfarmer: If you are referring to my post, the original post, when you say "Although this post is well intentioned, it is the wrong outlook", please re-read what I wrote. You and I are in agreement. I am advocating NOT censoring anyone's beliefs. I am advocating making the march about freedom and the Constitution so that we can embrace the inevitable unapologetic expression of "politically incorrect" points of view instead of letting it divide us.
Sorry about that, I was
Sorry about that, I was reading so much censorship type stuff, I just skimmed accross yours and didn't fully read it. I get what your saying now, sorry again, no harm intended.
"The March Against Washington"
I say that the one thing that brings many of us together is our dislike for the control that "Washington" has on our lives. Being for something like freedom and liberty is great but most revolutions are about being against something, such as taxes or tyranny.
We need a common enemy that we can rally against. That enemy is the corrupt federal government. It's something that can get people mad as hell and motivated to march.
I take it that many people are frustrated for various reasons. Frustration with the status quo can bring us together to take action. We can be "The Mad as Hell Marchers". Is that not the message we are trying to convey to our representatives? We are mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!!! We need to put some fear into them. I don't want to incite any violence but they need to know that violence might be the necessary next step if they don't change their ways.
Hear, Hear
Hear, Hear
I'm so looking forward to this
As long as nobody advocates taking away somebody else's rights, then wave all the signs you want. Other campaigns and groups brag about their diversity, but true diversity is when every individual brings their own unique perspective.
I'll definitely be there and my family and I look forward to some rousing chants of "End the Fed!!!" ... "Freedom!" ... and "We want peace!" with a few hundred thousand other patriots. :)
Sounds reasonable
I'm a "911 truther" but I don't plan on carrying a 911 sign. This march is about freedom and truth and we should concentrate on that only. The truth of other things will be dealt with in due time.
Yes!
As the Honorable Dr. Ron Paul has said, to paraphrase, freedom brings us together, it doesn't divide us.
"We don't have to start a brand new revolution...All we have to do is restore the original Constitution." -Ron Paul
Yes, thank you JKap. I
Yes, thank you JKap. I believe the quote is "The freedom message brings us together; it doesn't divide us." This is the idea. This is what it's all about.
The Freedom Message Brings Us Together March
I think that would be an effective name and theme that would make the unapologetic expression of diverse beliefs something that is encouraged and welcomed at this march, not frowned upon. People exercising their right to free speech at this march should make us all proud even if we disagree with them, and this will happen if it is a march for freedom and not the Ron Paul campaign specifically.
Thank you!
Keeping this up because I agree! "Make it about freedom."
word
I agree too
Thank you
for posting this, when the 'ban the truthers' posts started showing up I was actually very offended. I can respect peoples wishes in trying to keep this campaign on the up and up for Dr Pauls benefit, but I was wondering how long it was going to be before I started reading 'ban the anti-nau signs' posts as well. Hey, some would say that's a conspiracy too...
Sorry, I'll play nice now.
------------------------------------
The lesser of two evils is still evil!
Exactly. Ron Paul has a
Exactly. Ron Paul has a diverse group of supporters who strongly disagree on many specific issues (some of which are "hot topics"), but we are united in our support of freedom, liberty, and the Constitution. This is what the march should be about. We do not need people telling other people what to say or do, and this will inevitably happen if it is a Ron Paul campaign march and not a freedom march. We are all united in a fight for individual liberty, and making it about Ron Paul, the man, will lead to a widespread collectivist mentality, the very thing we are fighting against.
I agree
The message, not the man.
