Delegates!!! McCain is not a lock for the nominee.....here is the math.... Please keep this post current
Some are it again on this site, saying that McCain will be the nominee.....
I wish you people understood the delegate process and stop folding like a house of cards.....if that were the case, don't you think RP would have quit by now?
Do some research!!!!
When McCain reaches 1191 as declared by the MSM, that will really not be the case. He is not guaranteed all of those delegates.
HE MUST WIN THE 1191 DELEGATES AT THE CONVENTION!!!!
DID YOU GET THAT!!!!
HE DOES NOT WIN THE DELEGATES DURING THE PRIMARIES!!!
Bound or pledged delegates are committed to the winner of the primary to vote for that candidate in the first round.
Many states have yet to pick delegates. Of those that have, RP has very high delegate counts even though he hasn't won a single primary. How? Well people just simply apply. More of RP supporters are willing to become delegates than McCaine supporters.....Ask some here that have become RP delegates.
The primaries and caucases are nothing more than window dressing. Delegates are not chosen the day of the primary/caucas.
The only thing the primaries/caucases do is commit the BOUND/PLEDGED delegates to the winner either by winner take all or proportioned out.
At the convention, there will be bound.pledged and unbound/unpledged delegates. NOT ALL DELEGATES FOR EACH STATE ARE BOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The unbound/unpledged can vote for anyone!!!!!
At the convention, if McInsane does not get 51% of the delegate vote on the first round, then they vote again. In the next round, delegates can vote for whomever they want.
Read and learn please!!!!! and spread the word to everyone you can.
.
.
According to the sight below, here are the bound and unbound totals as of today.....McCain has 796 bound and 18 unbound delegates.
Now lets do some math:
McCain needs 395 bound delegates to reach 1191
Of the remaining states:
texas - 137 bound and 3 unbound
ohio - 88 UNBOUND
South Dakota - 24 bound and 3 unbound
wisconsin - 37 bound and 3 unbound
vermont - 17 bound
idaho - 26 bound and 6 unbound
hawaii - 20 bound
pennsylvannia - 74 UNBOUND
oregon - 27 bound and 3 unbound
puerto rico - 20 bound and 3 unbound
north carolina - 69 bound
indianna - 27 bound and 30 UNBOUND
kentucky - 45 bound
mississippi - 36 bound and 3 unbound
RI - 17 bound and 3 unbound
nebraska - 30 bound and 3 unbound
new mexico - 29 bound and 3 unbound
.
There are 561 bound delegates left of which Mr. McCain must win 71% of to reach 1191.....now when was the last time he won with 71% of the vote?
Now Huck will probably win nebraska, kentucky, miss, and SD.......if this happens, then McCain would have to win just about every remaining delegate, and that is not likely to happen.
Basically, McCain would almost have to run the board of the other states to win......not likely.
.
.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Vermont is the only winner take all state remaining, so even if McCain wins a state, he does not get all of the bound delegates.
.
.
THE MSM IS LUMPING BOTH BOUND AND UNBOUND IN THEIR TOTALS.......VERY MISLEADING
.
So get your heads out of the MSM garbage!!!
.
.
NOW MARCH ON TROOPS!!!!

DO NOT "WRITE-IN" RP!!!
I don't know how many times I have to post this, but here we go again. "Writing-in" Ron Paul is the same thing as staying at home on election day. Unless the "write-in" candidate is a "registered candidate in that state, the votes DO NOT GET COUNTED - PERIOD! In order for the 'write-in' candidate to be registered with the state's Secretary of State, you have to follow that state's ballot access law. So that you have an idea, it costs the Libertarian party several million dollars, and about 2 1/2 years to get 50 state ballot access. we would have to do the same thing for Dr. Paul - regardless of whether you do it under his name, or under "Write-in".... I know it is unjust, but that's the law that the R's and D's have put in front of us.
Again, any name that is written in will simply be thrown out, unless "Write-In" has been registered with the Secretary of state for the state in question. I have to agree with the earlier poster. Should we fail in our mission to get Dr. Paul on the ballot, vote for the Libertarian (I doubt that there will be a Constitution Party candidate as they have stopped ballot access efforts). At least this way you can protest against the two dummy choices. If you vote for the "lesser of two evils", or if you write in anyone, no one will see your vote for liberty. So again, if you cannot vote for Dr. Paul, vote for someone that you can vote for who will represent LIBERTY.
Just become a delegate
Don't worry about who wins the remaining primaries. Don't worry about delegate counts reported by the MSM. Don't worry about "bound" and "unbound".
Even bound delegates are NOT bound by LAW. It is only the "rules" of each state GOP that makes a delegate "bound". As the saying goes, rules were meant to be broken...
Read this VERY interesting thread: http://www.ronpaulforums....
GiveMeLiberty is smart/cool
But the guy who originally wrote this would spell delegate "deligate".
And he was clearly lying.
It's sad that our movement of intelligent people has been reduced to listening to people who hate-Paul and spread lies, then those lies go out to 1000s of people on Meetup.
It has nothing to do with discouraging people from being a delegate, it has everything to do with trying to campaign bound delegates that can't vote for Dr. Paul on the first vote.
Good luck.
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!
... to all the people saying "I'd vote for Huck to make sure McCain doesn't win". Although Huck may - MAY - be the lesser of two evils, voting for him is still voting for evil.
If for some crazy reason you are unable to vote for Paul, vote Libertarian Party (or maybe Constitutionalist Party). I'm a Libertarian as are most people who support Ron Paul.
If for some crazy reason we're forced to decide between two evils - choose freedom. If McCain wins - or Huck for that matter... looks like they'll just lose to Obama. I truly believe that Paul is the only GOP candidate that could win vs. either Democrat.
So, vote for freedom. If enough people leave the GOP in droves, then either two things will happen:
- the GOP will be forced to change from a big government neo-con, spend and kill philosophy to a more Peace, Prosperity and Personal Freedom philosophy (between you and me - I don't see this happening).
- the Libertarian Party may become a more viable party. It's already the largest '3rd' party out there and Ron Paul's freedom message will only increase awareness.
Summary - vote for the philosophy, NOT (necessarily) the candidate. In the case of Ron Paul, we have a great man who also has a meaningful and unchanging philosphical foundation to his candidacy. Vote FREDOM!!
Strategy...
You do realize the goal is a brokered convention, not electing Huckabee?
If it's not a brokered convention, Paul loses.
If so, I encourage the 100s of thousands of us to each get involved in your local GOP, get elected to your State Central Committees and get as many Ron Paul Republicans elected to the RNC at your State Conventions.
If you want to take back the country, we have to be intelligent, we have to have strategy, we can't just say "visualize the Secret of Dr. Paul in the Oval Office.." blah blah blah.
WWKRD?
Sorry, you are wrong...
I spent Five years in the Libertarian Party (LP), I'm now a little "L" libertarian in the Republican Party, specifically the "Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) of Texas"... the "Ron Paul" Republicans. The only way to make any change is have Ron Paul win OR if Ron Paul loses, wait for the collapse of the Republican Party. Basically the neo-Cons and liberal Republicans will join the Democratic party after the major Republican losses this year, 2008. Specifically, most of the Republicans don't understand what it means to lose big, the GOP has had success for almost the last 30 years... now it's coming to an end. Then join us, the grass-roots pro-Liberty, phoenix rise from the ashes, in the year 2016, in the Republican Party... basically revitalizing the Barry Goldwater movement again (These movements are a lifetime in the making). You CAN NOT affect change from the outside in, talking to yourselves at your small LP meetings. You have to do the hard work of making change from the inside out... Please think about this.
Sincerely,

Awesome John
You are absolutely right. I love the GOP's original party platform. I love Goldwater and Reagan (before he was President).
We don't even have a Libertarian Senator, we wouldn't have a Libertarian President for 50+ years.
We have lots of great Republicans running, let's get as many of them elected to Congress and take back the party on a local level.
(Also we should listen to those people who post under their real name, are County Organizers and are just on the Internet spouting random ideas)
This is more of a side topic
This is more of a side topic but it is something I have thought about. I will not vote for McCain, Hillary or Obama.
I may vote Libertarian, but won't if they put someone up that is not pro-life. If that is the case, I will probably vote for whoever the Constitution party nominates.
My hope is that I will be able to vote for Ron Paul as a republican. I will not stop fighting for this as long as there is a chance.
Abortion is your litmus test?
What if Ron Paul changed his position from personally opposing abortion but wanting to let the states handle the issue to personally favoring access to abortions but wanting to let the states handle the issue? There's no practical difference. Either way, it remove the federal protection for abortion. Any LP candidate that is personally pro-choice will follow the exact same policy as Ron Paul.
This kind of silly litmus voting fractures the small-government voting bloc across parties and candidates. I'm sure Dr. Paul lost many potential supporters because he failed a litmus test, even if they agree with him on the overriding issues of the day like war and federal power.
Hey!
Even if the good Doctor doesn't make the republican nomination, you can write him in.

"Associated Press' projected
"Associated Press' projected delegate count, which includes both pledged and super delegates, has Republican front-runner, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) with 843 delegates"
Lets use this number, always best to assume the worst. So McCain still needs 348. That would still be 62% of the remaining. This is far from over by any stretch of the imagination.
BTW... I like that McCain is touting himself as the candidate. His supporters will be less likely to actually get out and vote, especially if there is bad weather and whatnot. Hopefully Huck stays in at least until Texas.
If you can't convince someone to vote for Paul. Convince them to vote against McCain. Everyone knows he is not conservative.

Please Don't Complain Following the System
I don't know if some of you naysayers are just a bunch of freakin' trolls or if you are just truly misinformed. But trying to win delegate slots is not divisive or sneaky or underhanded or in any way against the rules. It is a grassroots effort to try and gain influence within the party, within the rules of the party. What don't you understand? Any registered voter in my state is eligible to become a delegate. Delegates are bound to vote for the winner of the primary, but can change their vote after the 2nd ballot. These are the rules. If you don't like the rules, call the GOP and complain. Don't complain to us for trying to work within the system!
Sticky
Someone make this a sticky for all the idiots who think getting delegates is "sneaky". WE ARE WORKING WITHIN THE RULES IDIOTS! IF YOU DONT LIKE THE SYSTEM THEN CALL THE GOP YOU FUCKING CRY BABY COWARDS. GET OUT OF THE WAY AND LET REAL MEN DO THE WORK.
why we should not give up
For those of you who have been nocking this post - why? If the chance of
Ron Paul winning is 5% right now and the chance of McCain getting the nod 75%. There is still a chance. Maybe are odds are better or worse. So what. I still want my country back and am not going to give up when there is still a chance!
You don't know what you are talking about
First, he doesn't have to receive 71%. Some states are winner take all (like Va was) or are winner take all by Congressional district, so he very well could get 71 percent of the bound delegates.
But lets say he doesn't, maybe he only gets 250, so he is 145 delegates shy. Notice that many states have 3 unbound delegates - these are the super delegates, high ranking party officials.
Are you trying to tell me that McCain won't be able to come up with 150 unbound delegates ? That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Seriously, quit wasting everyones time. You are an Idiot.
I think the idiot is a person who comments without
knowing all the details..........seriously, I do not appreciate you comment that was directed towards me. You don't know me or who I am, and it is unjust for you to call me an idiot.
It just shows your lack of character and inability to engage in discussion without your narrow, one-sided view from being showcased....sorry sir, you are the idiot.
It is people like you who give RP a bad reputation and hurt the campaign.

Maybe before you call people
Maybe before you call people an idiot you should do your homework. If you did, you would have noticed that the only winner take all state left that has bound delegates and no 50% clause is Vermont. Vermont only give 17 delegates anyway.
"Notice that many states have 3 unbound delegates - these are the super delegates, high ranking party officials."
Someone can check my numbers but I believe there are only about 136 of these total, and to believe states where the GOP and voters have backed Huck, I doubt the supers are going to pledge to McCain.
My guess
McCain and Huck will join forces.
The war and money invested there are to high on their agenda. McCain is very elstic on most of the issues, including abortion, so he will adjust to Huck. For Huck abortion is all that matters.
This could happen, but if it
This could happen, but if it does Huck can't just give his delegates away. He has to release them. If he does release them, they are free to vote for whoever they choose, hopefully we have enough delegates waiting to be released. This is why its so important for us to be delegates. Everyone talks about voting for Paul. Voting doesn't cut it. Delegates decide elections not votes.
Why is so much energy going into this
flawed end around tactic which is devisive to our cause, to our support base, and contrary to the democratic will of the gop voters? Let's do as Ron Paul often suggests and put the shoe on the other foot. Suppose that Dr. Paul was way ahead in the gop popular vote and McCain's people were trying to capture the gop nomination stealthily by gaining more delegates than us. What would we think? Why, we would be outraged, that's what. You know it and I know it. Let's be honest with ourselves. This whole campaign is about liberty, about freedom. It is not about any one party or trying to resorrect a thoroughly corrupt party. That takes time just as it took time to spiral down to its present level. For the near term we are trying to get RP elected as president. We have but two choices: 1. Continue to buck the gop system which does not want him as their nominee (will of the gop voters and gop leadership). 2. Go 3rd party after March 4th and identify with an established party that promotes your platform. Number two is the only real option. It re-unifies our strong base of supporters, many of whom have been disenfranchised with a flawed strategy not a flawed message. This will re-energise the donations coming into the campaign which are currently trickling in. It will give us seven months advantage to campaign (with a VP nominee) and gain enough popular support nationwide to get us in the presidential debates. Texans will be able to vote/write RP in under a 3rd party. We will have the backing of Libertarian and Constitution voters. When we get a ground swell of 3rd party support, Ron Paul will reconsider his position. Until then, continue campaigning for Ron Paul the man. Not the republican. Remember, it's the message that is important.
God will work with you but not for you - Walter Russell
Moral Equivalency
I was speaking about your concern with members of my Meet-up group last night. Our primary is over, but we are working on the delegate process and showing our city that "The Revolution Lives". What I ended up saying was that I felt a certain amount of moral equivalence with getting the delegate vote for the nomination, without a majority of popular vote. The reasons: The state GOP leaders have lied, cheated and subversed the honesty of the vote in almost every state. The media...(well you know). Republicans were being told that a vote for Dr. Paul was "wasted". The debates sponsored by the Republican Party were a joke. I could go on and on....
I agree - this is the game as the rules are set out. They are the ones that cheated. They are the ones that encourage the Clinton/Bush cabal. I have no problem, just as that small percentage of "Enlightened" men in the 1700's, with saving our nation when the "average Joe" has no concept of the dire need for such an action.
We are playing by the rules......this is how the systems works.

This is how the game is played...
If you don't like it, stop watching it and do other things but THIS is the rules of their system. Their version of checks and balances against an "uneducated" populace. In this case, we are eliminating that factor to their detriment using their own rules.
Exactly. The rules are that
Exactly. The rules are that the delegates decide the candidate, not the popular vote. We are simply playing by the rules and not getting caught up with the results of beauty contests that don't matter.
Yup. Play their game dirtier than they do--under their rules!
That's how you win.
bumpety bump bump!
bumpety bump bump!
I have a question.
Is there anything that says that they have to follow their own rules? Is there any clauses that gives them emergency powers to suspend the rules of the process for some reason? What if what your all saying is true and all the people who will march on Washington meet again at the republican convention? If they realize they totally underestimated Ron Paul at the last minute is there anything they can do.
Bump, which I normally don't
Bump, which I normally don't do, but this is more important than anything else. We need to actively know and keep track of this.
Thank you this was very
Thank you this was very informative.
This post was changed
Thank You for removing the thing about voting for Huckabee. I agree 100% that as many Ron Paul supporters as possible should try to become delegates. Not only for the possibility that they might be able to participate in a brokered convention (which I still think is a very unlikely scenario) but even more importantly to:
1) Gain first hand experience in state and national party politics.
2) Have influence in shaping the Republican party platform.
3) Have an opportunity to express their preference for Ron Paul to the national media even as they are forced to vote for someone else.
But please, if you support Ron Paul, vote for Ron Paul.
Yes, I changed it.....I couldn't take it anymore
Though I disagree.....we need to stop Mccain from winning at all costs, even if it means voting for Huck........If McCains gets enough bound delegates, then it is over, period, end of story....and all of this time, energy, and money that everyone has put into this will be for nothing.
I want RP to win just like every other sincere person on this site, but if voting for Huck helps gain a brokered convention, then so be it....otherwise we have zero chance.
So you have two choices....vote out of principle and choose RP or vote for for the brokered convention and a chance at the nomination and vote Huck....but only in the states where RP has no shot at winning...I am all for voting RP in the states where we have a chance to win.....

I Vote My Conviction
I could never vote for someone I don't believe in. If everyone would vote their principles instead of a "strategic" vote, Ron Paul's numbers would go up.
Ron Paul supporters did the very same thing in West Virginia
They voted for Huck in the second round to gain three delegates so McCain would not get them.....I see nothing wrong with it.....we have the deck stacked against us.

A perfect God is not made imperfect by imperfect people.
Not the Same At All
Ron Paul was not one of the choices when they voted. He had been eliminated.
By voting Huck, they got 3 delegates.
Completely different situation.
We need all the votes we can get so we can sell delegates on the idea that Ron Paul has a core of support, and has a chance to beat the Democrats. They may wake up and decide McCain is unelectable and they want the candidate with money, organization, and a solid core of support on the ground. Vote Ron Paul all the way.

Why are people arguing? It's
Why are people arguing? It's irrelevant.
The trend is clear and the anti-McCain votes are coming out. Let Huckabee's people expend energy to take votes from McCain. We should be using our energy to do what will help get Paul in the WH.
GiveMeLiberty is correct about the numbers game. That's what it comes down to in the end. Delegate votes.

Holy Crap, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I am sorry to be so vehement about this. I know that there is and has been a lot of confusion and honest controversy about campaign strategies on this and various websites. Some people have been making a lot of unsupported claims about the numbers of "Ron Paul" delegates (stealthy or otherwise). The numbers of committed delegates, how long they are committed, under which circumstances they are committed, when they can vote for their "real" preference, and even how and when the national delegates (the only ones that really count) are selected seems to vary depending on who you talk to and which state you are in. For example, I am a delegate to my county convention in Iowa. I will have to be selected as a delegate to the state convention and after I get there, be selected to go to the national convention before I would even have a chance to vote for Ron Paul.
1) We KNOW that we want as many people as possible to hear Ron Paul's message.
2) We KNOW that it would help our credibility, (and possibly our delegate count) to have higher percentages of the popular vote in as many primaries as possible.
Too many people claim to understand this process without having any credentials or authorization from the Ron Paul organization. Frustrated by the low numbers in popular vote counts, too many people are giving up on tried and true strategies like taking our message to the voters and then getting our supporters to the polls. I know that we have not gotten the best direction from HQ in the past, however...
I requested and received an announcement from Ron Paul himself explaining as clearly as he could that this kind of strategic voting was NOT what he wanted us to do.
What does he have to do get you to shut up and stop sabotaging his campaign? Why if you trust him to lead this country, won't you trust him to run his own campaign?
I am providing information that many people have no clue about.
Please do not accuse me of sabotaging anything. I have spent too much time at this.
Bottomline, if McCain makes it to 1,191 bound delegates, the game is over. That is what this post is about.

Vote for Ron Paul!
Did you donate today to keep Dr. Paul in congress!

don't play with fire and ask people to vote for somebody else, this is very risky, will fire back and give the impression that Dr. Paul is really dropping out and supporting another candidate who doesn't share Dr. Paul's great message but has his own agenda!

So they embalm him, and the neocon establishment just stick their hands up his ass and use him as a ventriloquist's dummy for the real powers-that-be --- how would that be much different from what we've had for the last seven years, with sockpuppet Bush and puppetmaster Cheney?
