RON PAUL'S ULTIMATUM TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY: THE WASHINGTON MARCH
The importance of the Washington March having a minimum turnout of 200,000 cannot be understated. Ron stated in his first address of the Washington march that low trunout would be bad for the march, a high turn out is essential.
A high turnout of 300,000+ will give power to Ron's address of the GOP National convention. It will give Ron the power to send the GOP an ultimatum. It gives Ron the Power to openly and confidently state, "PLAY FAIR. RETURN TO THE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPALS OF THE GOP, THE PRINCIPALS THE PEOPLE JOIN US FOR. SURRENDER THE GOP BACK TO THE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPALS OR RISK A NEW CONSERvATIVE PARTY PUSHING THE GOP INTO WRITTEN HISTORY".
This march is not about winning any states. It is not about getting media. This march is ONLY about giving Ron Paul a voice. Ron currently has NO voice. Each person that attends this march increases his voice one tiny increment.
If you are serious about taking back our country, then YOU MUST attend this march!!! Do not worry that the march occurs on some significant date in history. That is irrelevant. Do not worry what kind of groups attend, that ALL kind of person attend is most important. The groups that are the least heard by DC are the ones whom will benefit the most from this march. Likewise, DO NOT come to this march with your concerns about what the Government HAS done, but instead with your concerns about what the Government WILL do. We can not change history, but we can effect change for the future.
If ever there was a need for a Million Man March, it is now. It is before the National Republican Convention. And this march is not so much about who wins the Election as it is about sending the GOP and DC an ultimatum.
BE THERE!!!

It's the VOTE stupid

No, if you concentrate on "...sending the GOP a message..." then you are playing their game. You are asking for permission to speak instead of making sure you are heard.
I'll ask again: What one thing has Ron Paul accomplished in congress as a GOP incumbent?
Remember, he first was elected in 1976, he's served nearly 10 full terms. Since he's been in, the size and scope of the federal government has increased. Every year it gets bigger and more intrusive.
Soldiers are dying now. We do not have time to "reform the GOP". Reform it to what? Make it honest? Why start with a den of thieves if what you want is an honest institution?
They aren't listening. They don't care. The GOP has tried to get rid of Dr. No. They are trying again.
Don't ask to be heard. Make them listen.

I don't think the stupid part is nessasary
GO RON GO Why do we have to turn on each other like this. I hope you don't talk to your family like this. I won't sign the petition BECAUSE OF YOU.
Let's make our own...
"Do not worry that the march occurs on some significant date in history."
This really shouldn't be a significant issue for our march. We will march and we will make it a new historic day for future generations to remember. I know us RP supporters generally have a great appreciation for history, but we need to start making some history of our own!
Farmer's March
When I was a kid, family farmers went on strike. I remember the caravan of farmers coming through our area on its way to DC and my father and several of his friends who were also farmers joined in with them. Many of them were driving their tractors. They drove their tractors and trucks across several states all the way to Washington,D.C. Us kids, my mom and the wives and kids of a couple other farmers were in an RV following along with them. It took forever it seemed - tractors don't go very fast.
I remember how everyone was so excited and nervous. The wives were scared and they frightened us a little, but we knew what our dads were doing was something big. When we got to Washington, they drove their tractors right throught the streets of D.C. I don't remember how many showed up for sure, but it seemed like thousands. I remember the riot police with their shields and clubs. I heard my mom tell of how they shot tear gas into the cabs of the farmers' tractors, nearly killing one.
I also can recall after we were back at home sitting and looking through the photographs of riot police hitting the farmers with clubs and hearing on the news how the farmers had caused a riot, but I can't recall any farmers rioting. I remembered it more like them begging for their own government to quit killing their livelihoods.. I think my dad was a true patriot. I have always respected that about him. I hope my kids will see this march in the same way. Those things become part of who you are.
According to the main web page there is a committee working
on the details for the march. See

Go President Paul!
’In accordance with the principles of double-think it does not matter if the war is not real. For when it is, victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, but it is meant to be continuous.’ (George Orwell, 1984)
THIS MUST BE FILMED
It's important to have a film crew to capture this with good equipment. Extremely important to have good sound recording for future generations. I suggest three film crews so we can get multiple shots, reverse angle shots, overhead crowd shots, etc. Need to do crowd interviews, have man on the street interviews.
Also, what if we all wore the same color - say white T-shirts, blue caps?
Date Yet?
Any consensus on a date yet.?
The San Francisco Gay Pride Parade
I am using this as an example. This parade attracts in excess of 500,000 people (and has hit the 1,000,000 mark before) to San Francisco each year! If this parade can provide these results, I have no doubt in the possibility of just as many people coming to D.C. The catch is that the Pride Parade is seen as fun. Even though the March on Washington is a serious matter, if it is portrayed as exciting & thrilling, it will be a success. Also, we need to focus on publicity beforehand, as well (this could attract a lot of people to the campaign and the March). This post is was created only to be used as a comparison of public turnout.
When are we going to decide
When are we going to decide a date to march on DC???
Did Ron say he was going to choose the date?
YES
I don't care if I have to mortgage my house I WILL BE THERE, and plan on bringing as many supporters as I can.
Great post! Agreed.

I am in. No Matter What
What can I do to help.
You are AWESOME!!!
Now, can you get 10 more people to go with you? LOL, I'll be there too!
See project plan needed post below
http://www.dailypaul.com/...
We need chip-ins
We need chip-ins for each major metropolitan area for buses. Travel will be the most expensive part of this whole endeavor. I live in Phx, AZ. If we could get a pool going we could rent whatever buses we need and split the cost among the riders.
The only way to get those kind of numbers
The only way to get those kind of numbers is an aggressive busing program of chartered buses., focus on a 200 mile radius of DC, and make it free.
That would mean 5000 buses with an average of 50 people. The buses alone will cost $20 to $25 per head, or $6,000,000, and that is assuming this is just a day trip. Now add in sanitation, food, water, first aid, and we have a HUGE job on our hands.
Personally, I think we need a professional to get it done or at least help coordinate.Questions come to mind like:" How many portable toilets do you need per 1000 people"? " How many first aid stations should there be"?
"What about security, emergency routes, and a ton of other what ifs".
The last thing we need is for this this to some how get out of control and give Dr.Paul a black eye. I am just thinking out loud here folks. This is a big undertaking, lets plan according.
Amazing isn't it,
200,000 people will pay $1000's and drive across the country to go watch a bunch of cars drive in cirlcles, but getting them to do the same to save their country is such a daunting task...

I think so too... seems like a reasonable post.
Pledge Counter for the MARCH
Daily Paul or the likes, should start a pledge counter to help get a feel for the true level of support for the march/rally. The pledge counter was quite helpful during the money bombs. I think a FOR SURE pledge, and a MAYBE Pledge.
Most conservatives do not DO marches and protests. We are busy working and creating jobs and things like that. However, Dr. Ron Paul brought up the idea and that is reason enough to be supportive.
There have been some conservative rallies in Washington (like Pro Gun, Pro Life, We The People) but the media tends to shower their attention on the few freaks from Handgun Control while ignoring hundreds and thousands of of GUN RIGHTS and/or Pro Life Supporters.
For Example: Ron Paul got LITTLE to NO COVERAGE even from CONSERVATIVE TALK SHOWS when he spoke at the Pro LIFE rally and even received the endorsement from Ms. ROE. I was really disappointed.
The rally/march is a difficult assignment. Maybe we are in our Valley Forge stage. Things look bleak, there is no media coverage, the major talk show hosts have all sold out. Donations are very low......but we must keep fighting the fight.
....remember the proverbial mustard seed.....
You are right on Steve!
I was thinking the same thing. Build a website with a pledge thingy
on it etc.
We can force the media to cover the event
by having a national ad campaign starting about a month BEFORE the march. Something like:
A voice says "On June 14th(for example) thousands of Americans are going to leave their homes and jobs and descend on Washington as never before" while showing various images such as business men exiting taxi cabs at the airport, families packing up their cars, hitchhiking college kids going to D.C., and some Rolling Thunder bikers heading down the road. Then, near the end of the commercial have it say (in print) "The Revolution has begun..."
This will make people curious about what is going on- don't even mention Ron Paul at this point. Then, about a week later, as the date of the march gets closer, put "RonPaul2008.com" in at the very end of the commercial.
Then, for the last 2 weeks before the march insert some sort of "call to join us" for the Ron Paul Revolution March into the ad.
These are just some thoughts- I am no advertising professional, but I hope these ideas will inspire people who know more about this than I do.
But one thing is certain, with a proper advertising campaign BEFORE the march, the MSM won't be able to ignore us!
(No subject)
"Most conservatives do not DO marches and protests"
Hmmm, could this be why our country has become so Liberal?
Luckily..
.. we are not "most conservatives"...
=)
A Pledge Counter
will allow non supporters, our opponents, to spam the counter. We could all believe we were going to a march of 500,000 people and upon arrival find only 50,000. It could be spammed and give false impressions to supporters whom may decide not to go, feeling there is already enough support. It could allow the media to report on the expected "spammed" turnout, for days in advance, and then report a lower than expected turnout. This could serve to diminish a good turnout as a failure.
And it could also serve to discourage people from attending. The large money bombs had double the donors as were signed up or "pledged". Suppose only 1/3 of the people whom are going to attend sign up at a "pledge". Some may see that the numbers look low and decide against going. After all, isnt' that why you want to have a pledge counter, so you can judge in advance how turnout is going to be?
Sign up with your pledge to the MARCH here.....
http://www.ronpaulmarch.c...
u need a t-shirt sponsor to encourage participants
..to join the march in Washington.
'I always think of all you canvassors and precinct leaders at the front line.
Good luck out there &Thank you. It's appreciated'.-fip -U.K
We need some leadership from headquarters
I think three things need to happen to move the march forward:
1. Ron Paul needs to choose a date
2. His campaign needs to set up an online poll to ask supporters if they plan to attend. This poll should be only for those who have given financial donations to the campaign, as they are obviously his most ardent supporters, and will therefore result in more reliable information.
3. The campaign should analyze the data from this poll (the percentage of supporters who plan to attend, how many from west coast, how many from east coast) and then do a reasonable extrapolation to determine approximate attendance.
I know there are concerns that the MSM will try to ignore the march.
However, I believe that if there is a large turnout, all hell will break loose on a personal level both within the campaign and without. It would change the dynamics of the election psychologically, and as we've seen in the Democratic primaries this year, psychological expectations have a huge impact on people.
Just in case the march does not get the kind of media coverage we would like, an national advertising campaign showing the march, and/or Dr. Paul's speech could be broadcast to inform the American people about what the MSM is hiding from them. An advertising campaign BEFORE the march would also be good and would make it very difficult for the media to ignore the event.
I know that Dr. Paul's staff is probably focused on his congressional re-election, but a small amount of leadership from them on this matter is warranted RIGHT NOW in order for us to know how to proceed.
Project plan needed
As any corporate employee knows, a project plan is necessary.
The first thing any project plan needs is a target date.
Obviously, there are major logistical issues in terms of supporters being able to get to the March.
If additional speakers are desired, there is a definite lead time (availability based on a *date*) in booking them.
There are also major planning issues if any sort of music performance is desired (availability based on a *date), particularly with the mention of "many stages" by some.
The lack of an agreed upon date has already splintered supporters into several different plans vs. one unified approach.
YES - Ron Paul - set a march day so we can move to plan B
We can argue, ponder and arm-twist 'til the cows come home. Give us a day Ron Paul and we will put it in motion.
It may take a series of marches
One may, or may not get the job done. I thought we should do it around April 15 and have everyone march to wherever the IRS offices are and make our payments in pennies. Ok, we don't need to bring our payments, 100,000 people bringing even 100 pennies equals 10,000,000 pennies.
This sort of highlights two of the issues we are concerned about, taxes and monetary policy. On the other hand I don't know if we want to make this about any one issue, especially taxes.
Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both
A smaller march in
A smaller march in another city can expect more media coverage than a large march in DC. Washington DC has a LOT of protests, and there so common an occurance that its hardly paid attention to. I lived in the DC area for years, and have seen rallies with 40,000 people get zero coverage. Even situations where violence and/or police brutality break out aren't cause for attention in this media market.
Besides, NOT all Ron Paul supporters have the funds to travel long distances for a massive event. If you're making $30,000 a year and have money to spend, it may not be so difficult. But a lot of RP's supporters are younger and less well off, and we can't afford to fly or travel long distances. There were 4,000 people at a rally in North Dakota....how many of those people are going to be able to make it to Washington, DC? I'm not here to put out the fire, but constructive criticism is necessary to counter wild speculation.
You're right
40,000 won't do it, we need 200,000 MINIMUM. Media is good. It is not the ultimate goal to get media coverage. Ron is talking about doing this AFTER most of the primaries have been held. So his purpose is not to win primaries. And if the purpose is not to win primaries, then the PRIMARY purpose is probably not media coverage either.
DC is the location. And there is purpose in making that THE location. This is where people go to affect govenment. You protest your state capitol to affect state government. You go to DC to affect the Federal Govenment.
That it is not easy for people to get to DC is a factor of its success. The politicians and GOP bigwigs KNOW that it is hard for people from all over the country to assemble in mass in DC. And they know that if a group can assemble 200,000 for a rally in DC, that their TOTAL numbers are strong. But 200,000 in a location in the center of the Nation is not as loud of a voice, because it was easier to assemble 200,000 in such location, compared to the same in DC.
It is a showing of conviction, or lack there of. Its not about media, its about giving Ron a LOUD voice in the GOP Convention, a voice strong enough to issue an ultimatum to the GOP.
If its about sending a
If its about sending a message to the GOP, then go to the convention in Minneapolis. There's no need for more symbolic activism - in the end, its still just symbolic. I didn't support Ron Paul because I wished things would change; I wanted them to. I busted my ass to spread the word, and am thoroughly convinced that the best way to communicate the message is through changing minds at the local level (which I'm sure most people who also went door to door can attest to). If this isn't about the nomination, then what is it about? You can't "send a message" if the message hasn't been clearly defined.
One hundred thousand people marching in Washington, DC is not going to threaten legislators. If you want them to change, threaten them back at home. A Senator from Kansas has nothing to fear from a Maryland voter, because that Maryland won't vote him out of office.
It IS about the Nomination
it IS NOT about winning Primaries.
Sad state of affairs
It's a sad state when the capital of our country is so frequently protested on and yet so frequently the people are ignored. That being said, Washington DC is the ONLY place this march can be, it MUST be there. DC is where the problem lies, you don't put a bandaid on your arm when your leg is cut, you have to fix the problem at it's source. If they try to ignore the march, then we do what we can to not be ignored. If that means hiring musicians to play through loudspeakers or starting sit-ins all over the city to force a halt in the cities activities then so be it. If nothing else, we must give Ron our support so that his voice is not one, but the combination of hundreds of thousands of American voices who refuse to remain silent and ignored. I will march, and DC is where i'll go.
~The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance. The Price for Security is Freedom. The Choice is Yours to Make.~
Bringing the city to a halt
Bringing the city to a halt is a horrible tactic. When used against a direct target (like the World Bank/IMF meetings, businesses, etc), they can be effective (although short lived, particularly in DC). If the purpose is to make average people "pay attention," you will most likely serve to irritate them to your cause, no matter how good the message is.
DC is where the people make the laws ans politically screw the country, but the problem isn't just there. Its the millions of people that allow this to happen. Someone had previously suggested having events around the nation - a brilliant idea that would get far more attention. If we've learned anything through the past few months, it is that the majority of people do not get their news from the Internet, and local sources (radio, TV, and print) are the key. If independent and online sources cover a large march in DC, but not other outlets, then the people who need to be reached will not hear the message. But having 2,000 people rally in Pierre, SD, or 10,000 rally in Albany, NY, will warrant front page coverage.
I agree with you
I DO think the DC march should go on, I am 100% for it, however, I also think that bringing a second series of marches in each state will bring the masses to see and hear us. I like many read local news papers, and watch local news. So, I agree with you anarchoVEGAN. What do the rest of you think? Should we schedule a "march on America" along with the Washington DC march?
Look....
No matter how you feel about turn out, if the media will cover it or not...whatever...
THIS HAS TO BE DONE! And do you know why?
Because it will show the people who WILL be watching (the DC police and government officials) that no matter what...there ARE American people who WILL get up off their asses and make themselves known/heard/seen no matter what.
As long as there are people who will stand up to them they will atleast be cautious about what they are doing. If we wake some folks up along the way..great. If not, we still have to show our numbers.
Anyone who doesn't want to be oppressed HAS to do this, and it has to be in DC so that we have the most numbers we can get.
Don't believe for a second that there aren't people who's sole job is to guage public opinion...and this will show them they there still are people who won't be lulled into slavery.
Honestly, the march probably won't do much.
I've lived in D.C. and there are marches there all the time, even when there were a hundred thousand people protesting the war in 2003 it was seen as nothing more than an irritation to people in DC. To DC, its just going to be a traffic detour. Some headlines MAYBE, but overall Washington justs turns it's head the other way when marches happen.
Thanks for the discouraging words...
I understand that the Corporate Military-Industrial Government-run-Media is in the habit of ignoring movements and marches (like the RP R3VOLution), but to state that "the march probably won't do much" is fairly pessimistic, don't you think?
"We don't have to start a brand new revolution...All we have to do is restore the original Constitution." -Ron Paul
