Release delegates explained, sort of...

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Whether Romney's 282 delegates can be given to McCain depends on each state's rules on "releasing" delegates, per the RNC.

Language to watch for during Romney's endorsement is if he says he is "releasing" his delegates "to McCain." That, or some variation, may be enough in some states where he won BOUND delegates.

Caucus states' rules are less restrictive and several of these states' delegates are completely unbound and may be able to go to whomever they so choose.

Here are the primary state delegates Romney has won: Ark. (1), Calif. (6), Ga. (3), Ill. (3), Mass. (22), Mich. (23), N.H. (4), Tenn. (8) and Utah (36).

Caucus state delegates won: Alaska (12), Colo. (43), Iowa (7), Maine (18), Minn. (38), Mont. (25), Nev. (17), N.D. (8), Wyo. (8).

Of these, all of the primary delegates are pledged. But, of the caucuses, the following are not bound: Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada and Wyoming.

*** UPDATE *** Highlighting how complicated this all can be, the Massachusetts Republican Party, said once Romney says his delegates can be released, then they are no longer bound to him, BUT they aren't sure if they would be legally bound to McCain -- if Romney so urges -- or if they can vote their conscience. They are checking.

*** UPDATE 2 *** For perspective, NBC News' Election Unit reminds us that in many states, the actual delegates -- the actual people who will sit at the convention and vote -- have not been elected yet. Even in a state where Romney won pledged delegates, unless they are actually elected already, the next phase could elect delegates who are McCain, Huckabee or uncommitted or something else. And in many states, it's not likely that a candidate who releases his delegates could "bind" them to another candidate.

Water seeks its' own level.

and shit sticks together.
The songbird had better fly south damn fast. Traitors need to be hung.

The Only Reason

McCain is getting support as the nominee is so a democrat will be sure to win. Don't buy into all the left right b.s. it's just two puppets being held by one puppeteer.

Ron Paul though, he's a real human being, a true statesman, and he defies any label.

And

I suppose Jim Henson isn't really dead, right?

Big suprise

Anybody shocked by this? of course he is for he wants a high post himself. I am sure Mcsongbird will reward him for dropping out early.

What do SC_conservative think of Romney's endorsement of Mac?

Remember, McCain has said he looks forward to being a war president with enthusiasm...this means more wars. Attacking Iran is on the agenda list.

And McCain admits he does not have a clue how the economy works.

Put together makes for a disaster. I don't know why Romney saw in McCain to endorse his campaign. McCain is clearly an unstable, treasonous un-American man unfit to occupy the Oval Office.

Don't know what Romney sees in McCain?

Isn't it obvious yet?
Romney works for the power elite, globalists, whatever you may call them. Same as McCain.
They are on the same team.
I hope this endorsement ends discussion of RP working with Romney and/or Huck once and for all.
And that it awakens Romneys supporters to realize that he is working for the establishment. Contrary to what he says and has spent his money on,he does NOT work for the American people.
People want to think he was different; he is truly not. Perhaps he just wants part of the in crowd and is not as globalist. Either way,we see where his interests lie.

Okay

umm...Romney is not the same. I love how people here foolishly class and group people together when that seems to go against the ideas we are suppose to believe in. Romney is simply a stupid rich CEO who has no sense of himself and is addicted to attention and approval by others. Why do you think he appears the way he does? He is a pussy who was looking to add more "credibility" to his feeling of being successful. That is Romney and that is why he is following the leader. He wants to be the leader so he feels successful and he doesn't care who the leader is now. I don't believe for a second he is on the same page as McCain, but McCain is the guy now so he sucks it up and befriends the object of the moment. They are not the same. McCain is a maniacal, uneducated, arrogant, anger asshole. Romney is just idiotic.

Does this mean Romney is

Does this mean Romney is officially out of the race now?

Media

I bet the media is getting to love saying "Blah blah supported McCain." Romney supporting McCain now is just more proof that he was following orders when he dropped out of this race, as just a few weeks ago he was telling everyone that he was the conservative alternative to him. This election and the media's perversion of it, is sickening.

Especially Out West

Nevada, North Dakota, Montana, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota. We should be able to switch quite a few to us.

I think your right!

I think your right!

Aren't we all on pins & needles waiting for McC's DeanScream?

I know I am. He's had several mini-yelps IMO, but no loud whoppers in front of a mass of people...or, gee maybe he has and the OM promptly buried it?

Do you really believe that

Do you really believe that even if the MSM makes a big deal over a "Dean Scream" type of event, that it would change anything? Insane McCain has over 800 delegates and more to come from the remaining primaries/caucuses, along with a large portion of Romney's zombies.

Teheh

Not all of McCain's delegates are bound, some of them may leave if he obviously can't win against Obama, more will leave if he makes a fool of himself. Very very few of Romney's supporters will vote for McCain despite what Romney tells them to do. They really are in a pickle, they don't want to vote for McCain, they don't want to vote for a Baptist (a lot of bad blood between Mormons and Baptist), hmmm who are they gonna call? Neo-Con busters!
But seriously Delegates are NOT like your average voter, they are spending over $1000 and their own time to travel across the country for this vote. You think the Caucus states have been difficult for McCain, wait till he gets to the ultimate Caucus.

I don't think the mormons

I don't think the mormons who supported romney are going to accept mccain.. out of the 6 couty 3 congressional and 2 state delegates here in my precinct I am the only Ron Paul delegate.. all the others are Romney and they hate MCINSANE!

Hilarious! It reminds me of

Hilarious! It reminds me of a video I would like to see, with the scene from the movie "Austin Powers" (the 1st one), with Austin as Ron Paul, and the Fembots as the other Republican candidates, heads spinning and blowing up as they try to debate him on policy!

LOL hah hah hah

a heated debate might do the trick

They should have a televised debate that lasts longer than 90 mins, oh, say about 8 hours long...a full day of relentless debate and discussion of the several topics at hand. Hell, if they want to be the CiC, they should be able to handle the pressue, right? He would be all, flop-sweated, his short carnie-arms flapping away, as if he's trying to fly out of the room. RP would DESTROY him in a 3 way debate with Huckabee more concerned about making one-liners, while trying to write down all of Paul's ideas. The logical arguments from RP would reduce him into a sizzling heap of hamburg...which is exactly why it will never happen.

big surprise

figures that wax mannequin Romney would go this route...just gotta go with the 'frontrunner'...what BS.

He should'a just endored Obama

I mean, if you're going to go with the frontrunner... might as well go all the way.

Now that would be something!

I read today that Obama has officially endorsed "himself". This should give him the boost he needs.

This might help us a bit

If the MSM convinces voters in upcoming primaries that it is too late and McCain will win regardless, voters may feel more free to vote their conscience. Maybe there will be lower turnouts of non-Paul supporters and we will be better able to compete.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...

we better hope to God that most of Romney's delegates turned out to be Paul supporters or will switch to Paul.

True Mormons won't vote this

True Mormons won't vote this way.... they will wake up and see that RP is the ONLY candidate that upholds the Constitution.... they have a prophecy about their duty to uphold the Constitution.... Once they see Romney for the FRAUD he is, they will stand up and do the right thing...

'Covering up the economic outlook!

That's another reason for the support of McCain. Everyone is trying to take attention of the economy (Read bank of England & Benekcake-Fed today news=bad). If Romney supports Paul it highlights the problem in my opinion and that goes for the GOP.

HAHA

http://www.cnn.com/2008/P...

CNN is clueless
"Those delegates would give McCain 1,013 total delegates, 78 short of securing the nomination."

Those delegates do NOT have to vote for McCain no matter WHAT Romney tells them. So CNN next election will declare McCain the winner having surpassed the 1013?? HAHA
Thats when people REALLY just stay home.. Exactly what we want.

This proves Romney is just another conservative "poseur"...

...Romney...you, you...NEOCON!

"In circuit motorsport, a driver has..."Paul position" when he or she starts a race at the front of the grid."

his campaign was more about a personal ego trip

than a commitment to any philosophy or issue. That's why he was constantly changing views on policy, depending on the political landscape he was operating in. No core values or none that he wouldn't sacrifice for a career move. I didn't find him especially evil or distasteful, just slick and self-serving.

Very accurate analysis of

Very accurate analysis of Romney. I'm a Mormon, and it hurt me a lot to see someone whose beliefs were so easily bended depending on the situation at hand. Mormons have lots of beliefs that aren't necessarily popular, and it takes a lot of guts to stand up for what you believe in when the rest of the world is against you. I'm not even talking about the pro-choice/pro-life flips, but the flips that occurred from state to state, like telling Iowa that ethanol was the answer, telling Michigan he would save their jobs while telling other states that the government should get out of the way of business. This is the nail in the coffin, though, the final insult. I'm only happy that I abandoned the Romney ship as soon as I heard Ron Paul was running. Otherwise, I would be extremely furious right now! Then again, who's he gonna tell people to support? Huckabee?

So much for the "conservative" canidate.

Handing over your endorsement to a stupid liberal like McCain because it would somehow "unite" the republican party is the dumbest logic I've ever heard. Reminds me of when Newt said that conservatives have an obligation to vote for the Republican nominee, whoever it may be. I say let the Republican party burn and rise again with Ron Paul minded leaders.

One of the things that's great about Ron Paul is that he don't play like that and wouldn't endorse any of these guys unless they had a change of heart and held the same policies as he.

It is going to be too

late to rebuild the GOP. We already have a congress that is willing to pass laws that are unquestionably unconstitutional knowing full well that the Supreme Court will not take the case in order to not make a ruling.

What else is new.

Haven't you been paying attention the last 7 years.

What scumbags

both of them, how could romney be so opposed to someone when running the race but then once he's out just endorse him like that. His reasoning is to unite the GOP, I have some straight talk for both Mccain and Romney their will be no uniting of the GOP, it is doomed, much like this country is heading toward.

His former supporters (most

His former supporters (most of them) and his delegates will not vote for McCain.
