Obama Pushes Bill That Would Mandate Global Tax
Senate to vote on legislation that would cost U.S. $845 billion, also enables UN to implement gun bans

Presidential frontrunner Barack Obama is pushing a bill that will lead to the implementation of a UN global tax, costing the U.S. at least $845 billion dollars over thirteen years in the name of fighting worldwide poverty, as well as banning "small arms and light weapons".

The "Global Poverty Act," which is sponsored by Obama, is up for a Senate vote today, and if passed would mandate the U.S. to spend 0.7 percent of the gross national product on foreign aid, on top of the money being sent out of the country already.

The bill passed the House by a voice vote last year because most members failed to read what was actually in it. The words "global" and "poverty" in the title were presumably enough to convince them that it must be good.

In reality, the bill also "Commits nations to banning "small arms and light weapons" and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child," writes Cliff Kincaid.

"Jeffrey Sachs, who runs the U.N.'s "Millennium Project," says that the U.N. plan to force the U.S. to pay 0.7 percent of GNP in increased foreign aid spending would add $65 billion a year to what the U.S. already spends. Over a 13-year period, from 2002, when the U.N.'s Financing for Development conference was held, to the target year of 2015, when the U.S. is expected to meet the "Millennium Development Goals," this amounts to $845 billion. And the only way to raise that kind of money, Sachs has written, is through a global tax, preferably on carbon-emitting fossil fuels."

A UN controlled global tax has long been a cherished goal of the elite and they have attempted to piggy-back it on numerous different pretexts, most recently via a global carbon tax on fuel, a move that was advanced at the recent summit in Bali.

During the summit, over one hundred prominent scientists signed a letter dismissing the move as a futile bureaucratic scheme which will diminish prosperity and increase human suffering.

In 2005, former French President Jacques Chirac called for the imposition of a global tax to finance the fight against AIDS.

Perfectly happy with giving Bush carte blanche to continue illegal spying on American citizens with the passage of this week's telecom immunity bill, the Senate seems destined to rubber stamp legislation that would lead to a global carbon tax.

President Bush has overseen the biggest increase in foreign aid since the Marshall Plan and is highly unlikely to veto the bill if it is passed.

If they manage

To pass this, BLOOD WILL RUN IN THE STREETS.

Here is a link to a

If they want to ban

small arms and light weapons,
we'll just have to get big heavy
guns!

from where?

I don't have an extra $30,000 for an M-60 right now. You know, depression and all. If it comes down to it, I hope I can use my small arms to "graduate" to larger ones as I move, if you get my drift.

Reminder..................

This is from a year ago............... Don't forget it.

Has the Senate voted on it?

?

Ironic

That a proposal like this would further hamper a free market system that would allow the Darfur refugees to buy and own firearms to defend themselves against the raiding Jawjaweeds--While they patiently await for the UN to do something, of course.

Already posted twice!

This is already posted right on the front page two days ago. Do you guys ever read the front page? I also posted it in the forums..

Amazingly, some people here were trashing it because the link had the word "GOP" in it. GASP! NOOOOO, they could not possibly be telling the truth could they? Then AJ posts it and you now become energized.

Where do you think AJ got the news two days later? Geesh.

Obama is the ultimate "UN" candidate. This bill today was to give MORE money overseas. We actually had jerks here defend this! He is paving the way for total disarmament, but on the other hand, he likely would send troops into Darfur.

If there is still anyone here who thinks Obama is a viable alternative I weep for you, I really do.....

"Global Poverty Act" Didn't

"Global Poverty Act"

Didn't Jimmy Carter teach us anything?

Just another scheme to syphon off American wealth and redistribute it to 3rd world countries. It's called communism.

Obama is for change and Oprah likes him

that should be enough for you.

bump!!!

bump!!!

Write to your Senators

today!!!! Don't let this pass. Here is my letter.

Please vote NAY on S.2433.

We cannot afford to pay this so called tax to the United Nations. In addition, why are we willing to give money to another organization to deliver aid to other countries? My tax dollars already go to an organization that determines were to spend my money (called the Federal Government) for the betterment of this country as a whole. Now we are sponsoring a bill that takes my money and gives it to another organization to determine where my money is to be spent in other countries. Remember that there should be no taxation without representation. I do not believe I am truly represented in the U.N.

In addition, the bill uses the goals of the United Nations Millennium Declaration, which states “To ensure the implementation, by States Parties, of treaties in areas such as arms control and disarmament and of international humanitarian law and human rights law, and call upon all States to consider signing and ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.” This is goes against the 2nd Amendment. The document also states that “To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons, especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons.” So we are going to support “regional disarmament measures”?

I am tired of our representatives giving the control of our liberties over to global organizations.

Please vote no on bill S.2433. Thank you.

The bill supports UN's Millennium Development Goals

Global Poverty Act (HR 1302), a bill that would require
the federal government to develop a comprehensive global poverty
reduction strategy with strong language supporting the Millennium Development Goals.

To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons,
especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting REGIONAL DISARMAMENT measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons.

It passed today

in the senate with a voice count

This was just a committee

vote. There is still time. But not much.

unbeleivable that our

unbeleivable that our senators are such traitors.. same with all federal government.. i hope the American people will soon wake up.. actually i think its too late!

Where did you

get this information? According to govtrack.us it is still in committee.

Read it here

http://www.libertypost.or...
And another website..just google it
Here is another one..
http://www.allamericanpat...

This talks about

a committee vote not a Senate Floor vote. In addition the article states that several Senators have blocked it from leaving the committee for now.

Please take the time to read the information before making statements. Thank you.

Great !! Then we have time

to let our senators know how we feel about it !!
Thank you for pointing out my mistake...the title was misleading in saying that it passed and I only read down so far.

Blah

The bill states "achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

United Nations The Millennium Development Goal
http://www.un.org/millenn...
states among other things,
"To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons,
especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional
disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the
forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and
Light Weapons."

Wrong

As with many articles at Prisonplanet, this is all based on misinformation and hyper paranoia.

The PP article references an article written by Cliff Kincaid. (link in PP article)

CK's article argues that certain definitions in the US bill HR 1302...

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi...

already passed in the House include language in the United Nations Millennium Declaration which is here:

http://www.un.org/millenn...

It specifically references that OMG, EVERYBODY PANIC... they are going to take away your GUNS... imminent destruction ahead!

Except that when you push your tinfoil hat over your eyes and actually READ the UN billshit, you'll see that the language states:

"To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons, especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons."

Now, if you look at the results of the forthcoming UN conference on Illiict (which BTW means blackmarket) trade in small arms (handguns and rifles) and light weapons (mortars and such) (think "Lord of War" with Nick Cage)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...

Inherant in the word "illicit" is the definition of : "not legally permitted or authorized; unlicensed; unlawful."

Logically, the UN is working towards the elimination of black market guns owned by warlords in Africa and others conflict regions. This is not about your M1911.

At the risk of being shouted down, I include the link to the FAQ the UN published on the topic. It is MUCH more believable than the FAQ posted by the NASCO folks... and worth a read.

http://disarmament.un.org...

In any case, unless we become a third world country, and even given absolute destruction of the middle class, we still won't become a third world country.... people shouldn't freak out so damn much.

Its like the boy who cried wolf... you're part of the problem... cause when there really is a wolf, no one will believe you.

Don't exaggerate or embellish.

Oh Boy are we in trouble

when I see posts like this ...people are still in DENIAL of what is going on with the world. The UN is spreading peace and ending poverty what wonderful things they do. OH PLEASE!!

You fail to understand that the UN's goal IS to make this country EQUAL to third world countries and to destroy the middle class... DUAH!!!
Try Agenda 21 on for size, UNESCO,WHO,World League of Churches, Southern Baptist convention, G8, Chamber of Commerce. These are but a few who have signed on under UN charters. All "NGO's" are associated with and are "recognized" by the UN. It has influence over our land, water, air, religion, health, education . You should be more informed before standing up for the UN.

If you knew anything about Ron Paul, you would know how he sees the UN as a TOTAL THREAT to this country. He Proposed legislation that would have evicted the UN from our soil........

Don't be so near sighted

Illicit includes FUTURE ILLICIT DEFINITIONS.

Or are you not aware Bush is giving the next president an already precooked dictatorship?

Or do you even care about yesterday and tomorrow?

Are you suggesting that the Military Commissions Act only affects the ability of "terroriss" to ask for counsel to challenge their accusers?

I'm sure you realize that if they take you "incorrectly" then you can't PROVE YOU ARE NOT A "TERRORISS".

Just because you don't see any tanks doesn't mean you should PAVE THE F'IN ROAD for them.

I'd also like to add

That the U.N. blames the USA for most of the guns in this world. They have stated many times that we are the worlds largest distributor of firearms. They would like to see that stop.

How can they make it stop? By getting one of our presidents to sign over enough authority to the U.N. and then they can do whatever they want. When they pass a treaty, that is now what goes in our country. It doesn't matter if we have the 2nd amendment. It matters that we gave the U.N. the authority to do what they want and we just have to go along.

So as far as the U.N. is concerned, we are the supplier of these illicit arms. In their eyes, all legal firearms have the potential to end up being illicit arms. I've heard them say that before, on video. So to stop illicit arms, you must first go after legal arms to stop that supply from ever getting to the the black market. Stop the gun from being made in the first place, and it can never be sold illegally.

That is their logic. I don't care what they say on their stupid website. Think they will state their true goals? You have to listen to the words of those who are using the U.N. to push this agenda. They are speaking the truth, and it's a frightening truth.

Illicit?

For the record, you do realize that there are many people trying to use the U.N. to dictate what guns are, and aren't legal.

They don't see handguns as being necessary, and they don't see your AR15 or AK47 as being necessary either. They think you should be able to own single shot small caliber rifles.

So while these guns right now may not be illegal, they certainly are on the chopping block as far as the U.N. is concerned.

Small steps.

They have done a very good job of making people fearful of handguns and "assault" rifles. All it takes is one ruling by one president, and giving authority to the U.N. to finally declare that our small arms are now too dangerous to have, and it's game over.

This is a game that they never will quit playing. They are going to try and try again until they finally succeed. It doesn't matter if it takes 100 years, they will keep trying.

I disagree.

I did the research as well and read all the documents and like everything else, the verbage is too vague.

"To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons, especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons."

The problem is that "and supporting regional disarmament measures" is not clear on what this is or what "regional" means and whether it is unquestionably linked to illicit traffic.

You also leave out another section "To ensure the implementation, by States Parties, of treaties in areas such as arms control and disarmament and of international humanitarian law and human rights law, and call upon all States to consider signing and ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.”

Which once again "arms control and disarmament" is not clearly defined. So while it is easy to see the darkest side of these phrases and think the sky is falling, in my opinion it is equally to see that the verbage is there to take our liberties away if left open to interpretation.

I don't care.. no US senator

I don't care.. no US senator or congressman should have nothing to do with the UN.. THAT COMMIE SOCIALIST ORGANIZATION SUCKS! and so does anybody that supports it!

I wonder if this is part of

I wonder if this is part of the reason why Boston police will supposedly soon be knocking on doors requesting to search houses for illegal weapons. Article is at Boston.com: http://www.boston.com/new...

Thanks

For the research ericland... I always take a prison planet post with a grain of salt and a dozen lookups!

I'm assuming

We're talking about S. 2433: Global Poverty Act of 2007, right?

http://www.govtrack.us/co...

Don't see small arms or weapons there anywhere...

Am I missing something?

I couldn't find it either.

the phrase "small arms and light weapons" is nowhere in the bill. It also doesn't mention the treaties. Not saying that the article is wrong, but I want to know where that information came from.

from my cold dead hands

no way in hell

i called voinivich and

i called voinivich and brown, to oppose this piece of shit legilation that crosses our sovereignty!

Where does it say

anything about banning weapons and ratifying treaties? I read the bill and did a keyword search on the bill and couldn't find anything related to weapon bans.

I can't wait to hear RP rip this one to shreds.
