How do you explain to someone why Ron Paul isn't mentioned in the news?
A friend of mine (she knows I support RP) asked me did Ron Paul drop out. I said no, that the mainstream news just refuses to report on him. How do I open other people's eyes without going into my 2 hour spill and them getting tiredhead?

Because HQ isn't doing their job!
If the way this campaign is being run is any indication of the kind of administration we can look forward to then we don't have a chance of convincing very many voters to support our candidate no matter how great he may be. Missed opportunities, miscommunications (I pray they are wrong about what happened in LA), lack of adequate training, and NO timely responses or daily postings from HQ. I'm sorry but they suck at this. We had a nation of new recruits and a buttload of cash and HQ basically let the rest of the GOP push them around and I can guarantee you that here in the state of Nevada it has dramatically hurt our image and our ability to defend our candidate. You don't have to run around screaming foul but you MUST stand up for yourself if you ever want to be taken seriously.
After the caucus here last month a representative of the NVGOP (not a campaign) went on local television and publicly ripped Ron Paul to shreds... to date there has been NO response, NO rebuttal, NO comment. I have been involved for two months, registered as a republican (yuk), became a Precinct Chair and Delegate and will continue to fight to the bitter end for Dr. Paul but at this time I personally have no confidence in HQ at all. PLEASE prove me wrong HQ... show us you are listening.
As suggested below
have them look it up on the net.
They can sell themselves better than you can.
Media money
News is a business first, and an informer second. News about peace and prosperity doesn't sell, and the long-term probabilities of such greatly hurt media stock prices, which are based on predicted earnings. If Paul is elected and the wars end, the news corporations' stock prices will plummet because death sells papers. War and poverty are the reasons we watch the news. Allowing them to end would be bad for the news business.

The question is does the media push the market or does the market push the media?
The Seeds of Truth we Plant today will grow to be the Tree of Freedom tommorow.
I always like to say that he
I always like to say that he has been marginalized across the board because they are afraid. They call him names (you've all heard them), but if he really WAS a crackpot, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum, LIKE SOME OTHER CANDIDATES I COULD NAME....then the simple solution would be to give him equal time. Wouldn't everybody quickly realize that he was an idiot and not to be taken seriously? Why not let him hang himself if he is so far out of touch? I think the fact that they DON'T cover him equally is the best reason to check him out for yourself. If the Powers That Be don't want you to hear him, then that by itself should be reason enough to want to hear him, don't you think??

RP media blackout...
You could send them this YouTube video too. The guy does a step by step explanation. Interesting to see it broken down with hard evidence and numbers.

I get this all the time! When is the Ball/Football Game!!
Go for a quiet drink in a sports bar!
Someone wants to know this or that.
Your phone has internet.
I tell them now not to be lazy.
Don't watch the dumb Tube.
If you want to know that answer Google the question, but leave me alone.
Do your own research.
Oops! Those people are now all RP supporters!
The OM spoon feed info. But when you know how to fish, - you will always be powerful
Tell them to research for themselves.
The they will be just like us.

Watch and feel the power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed
Your absolutley right, I have found this method 100% more effective. People respond so much better to something they found on there own, rather than what someone else feeds them. It gives them that sense of ownership, and once they hear the message 9 out of 10 times they are hooked, hook line and sinker.
The Seeds of Truth we Plant today will grow to be the Tree of Freedom tommorow.
This has been asked and answered countless times
,
In my 36 weeks of participating on Daily Paul, this question has come up many times, and each time it is the first, as though it had never been raised before.
Yes there are new people arriving every day and it is an important subject.
The short answer is that RP is a threat to the status quo. When he talks about abolishing various federal programs, fighting against the NAU and National I.D. cards, this sends shockwaves through the establishment. It has nothing to do with polling; the CFR would love it if RP went away and of course are backing McCain the War-Monger. And, to cover their bets they are also backing Hllary, Obama and Huckabee. All the candidates are either CFR members or are affiliated in some way. Not Ron Paul. He just rocks the boat. The people love it (well, many) but the establishment can't stand the guy. Hence, little coverage in the media.
And yet, good stories do slip out from time to time. The L.A. Times has, lately, run very favorable stories. It baffles me. But I am glad.
.
An even shorter answer:
According to the executive vice-president of CNN: "The mainstream media, whether print or television, goes through four levels of censorship before it reaches the general public."

MSM control
Noelle has posted that s/he has television and film industry experience.
I have Las Vegas/music entertainment industry experience.
I know of one situation where a recording company offered a contract to a second singer to *not* promote him, so he would no longer be in competition with the one they already had under contract.
I also personally know that many years ago, "due to a computer problem", the wrong person "won" the Grammys. How much did the person who should have won lose financially due to that "mistake"?
I'm seeing the same things going on in this "election".
If Ron Paul had received the same amount of *free* MSM attention many months ago, he would have polled better. Catch-22.
TANSTAFM - There ain't no such thing as free media
Media attention follows success and will never be doled out equally. McCain and Guiliani had long and high-profile careers and were well-known and well-liked and got heavy coverage from the start. Romney was a high-profile governor, raised lots of money early on, and gained early support in NH and Iowa to merit coverage. Huckabee had no coverage to start (outside of debates), but earned it by working the Iowa grassroots and moving into 2nd place in the polls. Folks like Brownback, Tancredo, and Hunter never got much coverage.
Dr. Paul started out just like Huckabee and Hunter and eventually did earn coverage through fundraising success. But that was never followed up with polling success. He actually did get remarkably high coverage relative to his polling up until NH. Then the media, along with everyone else, saw that the polls were in fact accurate and that he was having no direct impact on the nomination contest and the coverage dried up quickly.
P.S.
Based on your post title, you fail to mention the financial *support* that McCain and Guiliani received in terms of free media exposure.
Let's not forget the Fox debate fiasco. I saw one post that Fox stock dropped $6 *billion* dollars, but "recouped" $3 billion of that.
What clout does Soros have or Murdoch to control what goes out over the airwaves?
Have you followed the NH recount *at all*?
If the NH results had been *reliable*, do you think RP would be in a totally different position now?
Do your own research at http://www.blackboxvoting.... The *videos* Bev Harris has posted on YouTube about the total lack of any chain of custody are absolutely appalling.
Even the MSM reporting of Super Tuesday results was blatant misrepresentation.
They kept reporting popularity results vs. *delegate* results. And California, at least, doesn't have to complete counting of the manual ballots (of all the RP supporters who avoided the Diebold machines) for *30 days*.
Even delegate totals being reported for McCain are routinely debunked here on DP.
True
.
I worked at NBC for 16 years and I can assure you that they definitely skew the stories they report.
They caught a lot of flak years ago by rigging a gas tank to explode (Dateline) and of course vowed to never do it again. And yet, I was in one of the 3rd floor control rooms watching them cut a story on Tim McVeigh after the OK City bombing, and they really slanted the story. When I brought this up to the producer, he said, "You sound like one of the Freemen (a radical Idaho group)."
He had his orders: McVeigh and Nichols were the only ones involved. That's the story that went out, and it was a complete fabrication.
.
I get this question a lot
I get this question a lot when canvassing.... I've shortened it to this: Ron Paul stands for govt of the People for the People.... the media is owned by corporations who want to continue a govt. of the Corporations for the Corporations....
Always get a positive result with this.... many times you see a light bulb turn on right above their heads! :o)
This is an easy question
And the answer is just as easy. Tell them the obvious. What interests you the least? Brittany Spears, American Idol, and steroids in baseball. That is what you will see in the news the most. Now, what interests you the most? The status of the southern border, the actual state of our economy, the actual reasons for going to war, these you will see in the news the least. And those who talk about what interests you the most, you will see in the news the least. It's that simple.
And to comment on a comment below, our local paper, for no apparent reason, ran a small article on presidential fundraising in our city. Of all candidates, Ron Paul came in second to Rudy Guiliani. A nice little plug that they didn't have to do. It was the Wilsonville Spokesman of Wilsonville Oregon.
You get a gold star
Another Paul supporter that is not a conspiracy theorist, but sane and level headed. We are rare, apparently.
Supreme irony
Noelle, the true irony is the skepticism that you constantly display about any/all "conspiracy" topics (per your own definition) is the same skepticism the RP supporters run into when trying to convince those voters to support RP when they have only listened to the MSM label RP himself as a "kook".
Close-minded people are close-minded people.
So, the real issue is how do we convince people like you or skeptical voters to do their own research to make decisions based on actual facts?
People who are insane do not realize that they are-
If Paul had the same views
as most of his supporters here, I wouldn't vote for him. That fact is, most of his supporters on this website and at the meetups are not representative of most of his views. They latch on to a thing here or there, distort it into a conspiracy, and that's what they base their support on.
So, I don' tknow what you're trying to convince people of when you're trying to convince them to vote for Dr. Paul. I convert people to voting for him, but I don't use conspiracy theory talk at all and I don't rant about the MSM. I just give them his basic libertarian/conservative philosophy. But, the fact remains that most people vote based on personality and salesmanship. The average voter doesn't care much about the message.
People rationally allocate their time
They spend it on things they have direct control and benefit from. "Doing their own research" would eat up a large amount of their free time whose only tangible result would be an informed vote. Since everyone knows their one vote will never swing any election of significance (even Bush needed 537 Floridians, not 1), most people view this as a very low-return effort. Whether this decision is unconscious or conscious it is still a rational response to the voting process.
Only people like us and other committed partisans who get emotional satisfaction out of being well-informed and "right" see all that research as worthwhile. Don't blame your fellow Americans for their choices until you're ready to spend all of your time becoming well-informed on their hobbies as well.
Why should I
blame people who in the end will have nobody to blame but themselves?
I meant Noelle
By your rationale, *no one* should ever do any research. Yet, our republic requires knowledgeable voters.
A relative just said almost the same thing that you did, "They spend it on things they have direct control and benefit from." My generation's history classes always discussed how did Hitler come to power. Your post is a clear explanation of how.
If Noelle does not want to continue to look stupid (but "sane"), research would be warranted.
I highly recommend this site (and newsletter subscription/several per month): http://www.wanttoknow.inf...
There's even a full tab on the all the documentation, testimony, and scientific community statements about 9/11. Noelle might want to take a look at scientific evidence there-
The site attempts to use reliable sources for its archives/information.
Interesting example regarding censorship (oh, no - that's just a conspiracy, too, except I have lots of personal proof):
At one point, if you entered *just* "wanttoknow.info" in either the subject/blank body or blank subject/in the body of an e-mail and sent it to an AOL e-mail address, it would bounce back.
Now, this e-mail wasn't *from* that site, it was me forwarding to me and AOL was totally blocking it *based on the domain name alone*. Many activists will no longer accept subscriptions with AOL addresses, because the failure maintenance is too high.
On the other hand, Yahoo seems to be blocking e-mails *with no notice to the sender* and also filters to BULK/SPAM whitelisted subscriptions, apparently based on URLs or content *within* the body content.
Oh, but that's another conspiracy (look up Echelon used by the government).
Per a phone conversation with Eagle Forum, juno.com was blocking 100% of their newsletter *subscriptions* until a Juno customer complained.
Devvy Kidd, NewsWithViews columnist, even indicated that her ISP, Earthlink, was blocking the NWV mailings to her own e-mail!
Regarding media blocking news, I highly recommend the book, Votescam, with all of its documentation of evidence presented to news reporters who were excited (thinking "Pulitzer Prize"). *Until* the next day, when the stories were blocked by their superiors-
Have fun:)
Not worthy of a response
You're too far gone.
Ah yes,
it's hard for you to argue with the truth.
And when faced with it, you choose to insult.
Did anyone notice
That our whole forum a moment ago just got deleted, because it was not what they wanted to hear, and they are over here handing out "gold stars",
Devon *requested* that it be flagged for deletion
I was one who did so.
It's Because of the Council on Foreign Relations
You explain to that person that our news is censored. It is not censored by the government. It is censored by the Council on Foreign Relations. This Council on Foreign Relations is made up of a little over 4000 people. They are not people like you and me. They are people who run the largest corporations, the large banks, the big colleges, the tax-exempt foundations, an of course, the major media outlets, including the networks, and the big news magazines. Naturally, most of the best known politicians are also members.
You can go to the Council on Foreign Relations website and see their membership list. They have been running our foreign policy since World War Two. Members of the CFR have made billions of dollars on our undeclared wars over the last sixty years.
Ron Paul was ignored, or ridiculed by the CFR media because he is a threat to their continued stranglehold on our government. They have been using the power of government for decades to promote their agenda of world government.
What don't they want us to know...?
If the persn has any idea how controlled the media is - turn the question around, "If the msm are censoring him, perhaps he has something to say that THEY don't want people to hear?" "Want me to tell you what that might be?" (don't forget to smile real big at ths point).
Some local media is just as
Some local media is just as dumb! My local weekly paper came out, in it the state primary results were posted, but of course no Ron Paul. So I went to speak with the editor. I first asked her if she knew which Republican candidates in the Presidential primary had not dropped out. She looked confused, and asked me if I meant "nationally?". Duh! Stumbling over her words, she responded that there were two left; McCain and Huckabee. She knew she was wrong by the look on my face, so she quicky told me that she wasn't sure if Ron paul was still in or not. I corrected her and then explained that my husband is a veteran of two wars and voted for Ron Paul. I also explained that Ron Paul receives more donations from active duty military than all the other candidates from both parties combined, and that likely many of those people cast their votes for Ron Paul. Then I asked if she was attempting to silence these heroes, by omitting the results for Ron Paul. She was mortified and told me that of course she was not and that they could do a story on Ron Paul. I suggested that the story be about how successful he has been even though the media has been totally unfair, lied AND blacked him out. I'm awaiting the next paper. I know she does not want another visit from me.
WAY TO GO!!!!
That was AWESOME!
Way To GO!
You sure should have made her Feel dumb!
I think she may be doing her
I think she may be doing her research now. I forgot to mention that I think the original poster should tell their friend that the media does not support the troops.
I tell them that the pretty faces on the television
are just talking heads for corporate/banking/global interests. And you will only learn what they want you to know. I also tell them about the 6 corporations that OWN and CONTROL the entire mainstream media.
And the only way to learn what is going on is to turn off the Old Media Idiot Box and find the truth on the Internet.
I'm baffled how most people
I'm baffled how most people get dressed and how they manage to find the office daily. These clowns couldn't think for themselves if their lives depended on it. They are so needy, it's scary.
I explain to them that everyone is retarded.
People are more interested in Paris Hilton's brother getting a DUI than the economy. Then we move on to "Head On. Apply Directly to the Forehead." The discussion furthers into why people give a damn about VH1 reality shows. And who understands what inflation is.
Being that 1 out of 125 are likely autistic, but only 1 out of 10,000 a genius... well, the numbers aren't favorable.
Frankly, I'm surprised more people aren't drooling on themselves.
LOVE IT!!
I believe in FREEDOM! I believe in Ron Paul!
LOL
Best answer so far!! Thanks for the laugh.
Don't listen to the conspiracy theories here.
It's very simple. Candidates receive media coverage in proportion to how well they poll. That's why pro-war conservagive Alan Keyes, who is still running, receives way less coverage than Paul. And it's why Paul received more coverage than pro-war conservative Duncan Hunter. It has nothing to do with Paul's political views.
Paul himself said in his last video that he has received a "decent shake by the media." This is taking into consideration of his low polling, which is what coverage is roughly based on.
Think for yourself...
"Don't listen to the conspiracy theories here." How 'bout go and do your own research? A theory is something that there is no evidence for. Is it all just "conspiracy theories"? Do your own homework, think for yourself, and if you find concrete evidence that you're dealing with more than just "theories" then you will inevitably find yourself wondering whether or not certain people are trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Part of having a Free Republic requires us to think for ourselves rather than simply allow other people to tell us what we should believe or what we should listen to. Do your own research, think for yourself and make YOUR OWN decision about whether you're listening to conspiracy theories or conspiracy facts. That's what Freedom and Liberty is about.
"Doesn't matter what you see, or into it what you read, you can do it your own way if it's done just how I say. Independence limited, freedom of choice is made for you my friend. Freedom of speech is words that they will bend. Freedom with their exception." - Metallica from the song "Eye Of The Beholder" off the album "And Justice For All..."
True, and they also need to "court" the media and make
the job of the press EASIER.
NOT harder.
Everyone in Public Relations KNOW THIS... virtually everyone in business knows this... If you want press to pay attention, you "court" them -- you treat them nicely, you issue frequent press releases in CONVENIENT forms (you do not make them "hunt" for the news on your campaign) -- you make certain that you schedule MULTIPLE campaign appearances (concisely noting the times and locations on the AP daybook, as well as alerting the local and major media individually), and you do so well in advance and specifically and cordially INVITE the press "along for the ride."
I said "everyone" knows these things ... the exception seems to be the Ron Paul campaign staff leadership (and a variety of "extreme" supporters), who seem to think that the press are some type of "servants" to be commanded, some type of non-humans -- without egos or feelings -- and who can therefore be regularly denigrated and insulted -- and yet from whom they expect no backlash, but loving articles of adoration.
The "blackout" was the "blowback" from the fact that the campaign has relatively VERY FEW events or appearances, that the campaign staff did NOT treat the media well and made little effort to put salve on past wounds, and finally the worst -- that too many supporters insulted and threatened them on a regular basis. What the heck did people expect?
You're right
That's definitely an element as well. If I had a show and Paul supporters were emailing me with threats of lawsuits, threatening to sic the FCC on me, death threats, and what not, I'd probably not have Paul on just to spite them - to show them that I don't have to follow their orders - that freedom of the press still exists.
It's nice to see level-headed Paul supporter here who can rise above all the conspiracy theory junk. It's sad that we seem to be a minority.
Conspiracy theories like
the FACT that Ron Paul didn't get equal time during the debates.
No conspiracy there, only a theory.
Lol!!
GOD would you please stop with thr Ron Paul is not being.....
unfairly treated by the MSM. You're perspective is so whacked! You cannot see the forest through the trees. Flagged!
I never said he's not being treated fairly
To be treated fairly would be to given him equal time as all other candidates. Obviously he's not being treated fairly. I'm just pointing out that it's not because of his political views. It's because of polling. Some candidates such as McCain are given more coverage than him, and some candidates, such as Alan Keyes, are given less coverage then him because polling. That's what the media roughly bases coverage on, not political views.
Nor is it the press's responsibility to treat him fairly. The First Amendment guarantees an unregulated press. The press can, and ought, to be able to do what it wants without government interference. You have to believe that if you're a Constitutionalist.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUC
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, McCain was given an INordinate amount of press
Well above his polling numbers.
The reason why is simple -- McCain's "base" is the press itself. They know (and some have even publicly stated) that the man is "borderline insane" -- but they "love" him anyway. Why? Because he always kisses up to them, he has done so repeatedly for many years.
He not only "courted" the press, he "married" them long ago, giving them whatever pandering "straight-talk" they wanted to continue their ability to portray him as a "maverick" -- an image they all love.
End result, after NH he got over twice the media exposure of Romney and Huckabee put together.
The GOP did not choose McCain as the "presumptive" candidate, the media had already done that prior to Feb 5th.
So the "truth" of the matter is that the press does NOT give people time according to their polling percentages (though that is a nice little "justification" lie on their part) -- rather they give time to those whom they find to be "interesting" from their own perspectives.
It's NOT specifically or only Ron Paul's positions, but they ARE an important consideration (or de-consideration) -- rather it is that Ron's campaign does not want to "play the game" of standard campaigning (either with the media, or quite frankly with the public either).
The problem with that is, that "game" is how people who vote actually decide -- you can dislike it all you want, but much like the law of gravity, or the rules of supply & demand -- if you defy those rules or pretend they do not exist, then reality will smack you in the face, and it will do so fairly hard (as it HAS done to the RP non-campaign).
So much for
fair and balanced reporting.
They don't dig for the truth anymore, they are just talking heads for the corporations that pull the strings of big government and politics.
You won't find an Old Media Idiot Box in my house.
