Amit Singh for Congress

Amit Singh is a Ron Paul-inspired Republican running hard for Congress in VA's 8th, in the Northern Virginia suburbs of DC. He will be espousing himself as a moderate Republican, in hopes of gaining traction in this moderate, left-leaning district.

The Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, Fort Myer, and a barage of other military/national security & government contractors are located in this District. Amit is an engineer, a graduate of the University of Virginia and works in the US Intelligence community. He has worked for the White House, DoD, FCC, Army Intelligence Command, NASA, and currently the NSA. He is the founder and CEO of his own business. His experience making the very technology currently being used in Iraq & Afghanistan will play over well in this area.

Amit is also an Indian-American descendant whose multicultural background and language abilities will help change the image of the local GOP as a "white males" group. This area, being right next to DC and containing a few very close to "harbor cities," is full of immigrants, both legal and illegal, and very diverse.

Amit is committed to the ideals of liberty as a long time RP supporter and will try to present them in a way which is easy for even the not-so-brightest to understand and appreciate.

Currently, he is raising $15,000 by March 25th. That's not asking for much compared to some of these guys. He's not asking for much because he's investing over $10,000 of his own money into his campaign.

$14,974 is the total amount Amit's opponent raised last time (2006) when he ran in the primary. We're trying to beat that with 15k by March 25, which is still over 3 months before this year's primary!!!

Amit's opponent is a pro-war, far right evangelical Christian who wants to "expand health care" while "cutting the federal deficit" (just look at his site! markellmore08.com). What a hack.

Please, donate today so we can defeat this guy in the primary and march to victory in the general election.

We're campaigning hard, going to the GW Parade in Alexandria, VA on Monday, already had our first campaign meeting and Amit spoke at the Fairfax County GOP meeting as well. He has also been extended an invitation to the Colonial Republican tea party and is meeting with the campaign manager of the Republican nominee from the last election on Monday.

I'm Amit's asst. campaign manager. Our campaign manager was the New Hampshire state coordinator for Pat Buchanan in 1996. As you can see, we plan to run an aggressive campaign and we're running to win.

We're planning various local fundraising efforts, but right now we need 15k in "seed money" on top of the 10k Amit's already put in.

If you wont fight for the right when you can easily win...you may...have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival [or] when there is no chance of victory...it's better to perish than to live as slaves.

What about Moran?

He's been sitting in that spot since 1991.

Sure, Singh might win the nomination -but can he beat James Moran?

42% of Democrats don't like Moran

That's right, Moran was challenged in the Democratic primary in 2004 and used up almost all his million dollar campaign funds just in the primary alone. And his underfunded opponent still got 42% of the vote.

People have a thirst for change, and Amit is a fresh face with fresh ideas. Across the river in Maryland, 2 incumbents were just beat in primaries. The reason people want change here is because Moran's been in office forever, and has stuck his foot in his mouth twenty times too many.

The problem is, the GOP has nominated these far right evangelical holier-than-thou Republicans over and over again and it will take a MODERATE RP Republican like Amit Singh to win.

Will he mention his support for Ron Paul on his website?

Or is there a political calculation being made to not link himself to Ron Paul right now? I read the website and a lot of what he is saying looks good, but what does he mean by "phased troop withdrawals"? Phased over what time period? I do like his reference to money being printed out of thin air and many other things...but I'd like more specifics. Almost makes me wish I lived in VA to have the possibility of a candidate like him in my district.

Of course Amit will stay

Of course Amit will stay true to his word and promote the IDEAS of RP, and vote in accordance with a libertarian-based philosophy, as he is a long time supporter (he maxed out in October, went to NH for Operation Live Free or Die, volunteered for the campaign, etc.) however it isn't usually considered conventional to openly promote another candidate as a candidate yourself. There has to be some degree of separation as to not simply come off as a fringe candidate who's just running to get his ideas across, or to promote another candidate.

Amit favors an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq (and a reduction around the world for that matter), that is one of his biggest issues. But any withdrawal must be phased and orderly, and not like a Chinese fire drill that will cause massive chaos. He does not support funding the war or staying there, he supports coming home immediately but in an orderly fashion. Again, just repeatedly saying "IMMEDIATE, IMMEDIATE, NOW, NOW" would make him sound like a fringe candidate.

I hope you understand where we're coming from -- we're in this to win. The ideas need to be promoted in an easy-to-understand manner, so when he gets elected to Congress people trust his Constitutional votes.
