REAL ID & The DC Gun Ban Montana Fights Back
Montanans along with 16 other states took a stand and passed legislation refusing to force the REAL ID on it's citizens. Now they are fighting the DC gun ban. As the World Net Daily article outlines should the supreme court rule the DC gun ban constitutional it would be a deal breaker for Montana. We became a state with the condition that the 2nd amendment remain intact.

LOL I don't know about the rest of the country...but dp'ers seem to be "ripe" for such a move to Montana -
I had posted this on another thread yesterday - couldn't resist to
put it here -
Dear Dr Paul, please start your own country, maybe Montana, since Texas is too hot and they may be rejecting you anyway. Old America won't cut us off because they will need us; we will be the smartest and best. They will pay us for our inventions and doctoring and symphonies and engineering and writing and programming and designing and imagination and vision and determination and ultimately they will call on us to bail them out. Please Dr Paul - if you build it, we will come.

Wyoming has this at the very
Wyoming has this at the very beginning of its Constitution
Sec. 1. Power inherent in the people. All power is inherent in the
people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted
for their peace, safety and happiness; for the advancement of these
ends they have at all times an inalienable and indefeasible right to alter,
reform or abolish the government in such manner as they may think proper.
That isn't an explicit license to secede, but it certainly could be taken that way.
Also, not trying to be mean to anyone, but the word is 'secession' not 'succession' 'sucession'. Everyone uses the wrong term, and it is a pet peeve.
Yes, but notice the difference between Wyoming's and Montana's
constitution: Wyoming's :97-1-037. Constitution of United States supreme law of land.
The State of Wyoming is an inseparable part of the federal union, and the constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land.
In other words, Wyoming can't secede. But notice Montana's:
Section 2. Self-government. The people have the exclusive right of governing themselves as a free, sovereign, and independent state. They may alter or abolish the constitution and form of government whenever they deem it necessary.
Sigh,,, I live in Wyoming.
Yeah
Maybe Alaska will be next. As I understand it, only Alaska and Texas have kept succession from the union in thier state constitutions.
No worries Montana. We have your back.
Still plenty of work to do.
(from the article) "That's the issue at hand in a pending U.S. Supreme Court case originating in the District of Columbia, where authorities have banned handguns under the claim that such a limit is "reasonable" and therefore enforceable even given the rights granted by the 2nd Amendment."
This is what we have to keep educating people on: the fact that the Constitution, more specifically, the Bill of Rights, does not grant us anything. It is meant to recognize and inform/instruct the government about certain inalienable rights citizens have that the federal government may not inhibit, diminish, or otherwise f**k with.

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." -- Thomas Jefferson
Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer
is the man in charge of heading up the entire movement against the REAL ID so I hope he's in it for the long haul.
According to Wikipedia: Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington have joined Maine and Utah in passing legislation opposing Real ID. That's 19 states so I'm thinking the list is either not current or two have joined since Governor Schweitzer started organizing.
As for rural land, lots & lots some cheap. Manufacturing is not real abundant due to enviromentalists but if we secede, we'll need lots of it. You'll find most of your cheap land in the smaller communities and on the eastern side of the state.
As for jobs, we are at nearly 0% unemployment; however, most of the jobs are in the service industry (like many other states).
Brad Johnson, our Attorney General is a republican and has submitted Montana's concerns to the US Solicitor General against the DC gun ban. We are also busy in our meetup making sure we get more like-minded, second amendment, constitutionalists, in the mold of Ron Paul candidates.
I lived in MT for 4 yrs
Missoula-one of the best places/states on earth! [and i've lived around the world, currently in CA.]
Environmentalists-well,the air quality sure sucked [read: comparable to some larger cities],and to my knowledge, federal land [isn't it now owned by the UN]makes up a large chunk of the environmentally protected land, right?
Certainly, manufacturing can be had; but the short term mining and logging does have a shelf life, just like so called 'peak oil',especially if it is directly dependent upon currency and visa- versa. If it's a true free market, then it would probably cover all the concerns on both 'sides',IMHO.
Then again,I'm not a native,and lived in Msla,which is a bit different.
But,natural beauty is key for me,wherever I live. Just b/c I can/have the freedom to own a gun and cut down trees,is not going to cut it for me,personally. And service industry economy demands some natural beauty. I personally wouldn't move to an industrial province in China, nor would I want to be part of the creation of one anywhere else. Manufacturing and light industry as part of the economy, sure.Just not all of it.
Anyway....Montana=GREAT PLACE.
Also lived in CO a few years; sorry, didn't compare for me,with the beautiful state of MT.
I think having such a small population, however, has helped MT to remain so independent minded.
I don't think we should all move there! LOL
Pink salmon, baby !!!
Montana - Alaska, Alaska - Montana. Oh, Alaskan crabs, too. Sorry, I love seafood (hehe). It will be nice if all northernmost states east to west will do the same.
"He who exercises government by means of his virtue may be compared to the north polar star, which keeps its place and all the stars turn towards it." Confucius
Montana should secede
I admire the people of Montana for standing against the Real ID! I hope they continue to stand against it. I'm seriously considering moving to Montana. I'm trying to decide between Montana and the Republic of Lakotah. If Montana does secede, I will move to Montana post haste!
Let's just ALL of us move
TO MONTANA!! I know my state is on the list of the protest, but I don't believe they will hold the line for the long haul.
What's the job market there? Any manufacturing base (tool & die) ? Land prices? Best area's to scout? Rural of course. Maybe this should be a new thread?
movin' to montana
gonna be a dental floss tycoon. Frank Zappa, did ya' ever here that one. How about a portable building tycoon.
Maybe I looked to quick,
but who are the other states supporting Montana's position?
Good For them!
.
New York Loves Montana!
New York Loves Montana!
Gotta love
Montana!!!!
Car parts available?
We have driven across Montana 3 times, and had our car break down all three times! Maybe it was a sign: "Just live here." We wound up in Idaho, but if we can keep a rig running we may wind up in Montana yet!
was there a microwave transmitter
on your route. We have one close by here and people claim there car breaks down when they drive by it. And several people that live close to it are definently fringe type people if you know what I mean.
