Did you know that in 1968 Hubert Humphrey was Democratic nominee and did not win a single primary?

A brokered convention is our ONLY chance.........There is always hope for those that have it........

He entered the Presidential race in April, and did not participate in any of the primaries, yet he became the nominee. There were also riots that followed his winning of the nomination.

This is why we need delegates.....

Good Point

I guess the real message is... anything is possible.

The 1968 Convention was a mess

.
The star of the Democrat party, Bobby Kennedy, was killed during the primary season. Eugene McCarthy and his virulent anti-war message, divided a party that needed cohesion. Add to the mix, the riots that went on outside the DNC convention and Mayor Daley's ineptness at handling them. Humphrey was a candidate chosen in desperation because there was nobody else of any standing. He was considered a solid choice. The rioters outside chanted "Dump the Hump" but to little avail. He got the nod. Lost to Nixon that November.

Years later, Jimmy Carter introduce Mr. Humphrey as "Hubert Horatio Hornblower."

The perfect storm is

The perfect storm is brewing. McCain is on the ropes as Ron Paul waits patiently while he rests up and takes care of business back home. Romney has dropped out, and now Huckabee is calling for a brokered convention. Alot rides on Texas, and if you're telling me that the people of Texas are going to vote for John McCain over Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee, you are out of your mind! John McCain's record on illegal immigration alone will cause him to lose Texas.

In a general election, Ron Paul would beat Obama or Hillary in a landslide. The GOP would become, "born again." Pun intended.

Pray for a slow news cycle so the media can concentrate more on McCain's FEC problems, and the affair with the lobbyist scandal.

i agree!

i agree!

Texas is No Different - Ignorance is King

The skulls are thicker here in Texas. This is my home state, but I can only tell you that this is not a well informed place. I must say that I'm very disappointed in the descendents of Sam Houston, Bowie, Crockett and the others who stood and fought for freedom because by and large the people now here bear no resemblance in physical or mental prowess. There are a lot of us that do support RP, but making inroads is difficult. I even had this buffoon that I know from Galveston say that one of the reasons that he was voting for Peden in the congressional race is because RP wants to do away with the income tax (which has nothing to do with the congressional race, because we have no state income tax in Texas). How do you argue with someone that wants to pay income tax and is happy with how it's being spent?

Anyway, the political machine here is against Dr. Paul and their propaganda works just as well here as anywhere. I had higher hopes for Texas, but it's gone the way of greater America.

huckleberry was on abc tonight

Saying that he was shooting for a brokered convention. It'll help Ron Paul alot.

Read it AGAIN

You're not reading with understading. Read this again: "But with the party machinery and the convention controlled by his supporters, Humphrey was easily nominated in Chicago."

That's right - Humphrey's people CONTROLLED the DNC convention. Do Ron Paul's people control the RNC machinery?

So you are saying that Humphrey was the "chosen one"

by the establishment and the convention was fixed?

Only because they killed Bobby Kennedy

and a few others dropped out.

close...yes, Kennedy was assassinated and

probably would have won the nomination. The other was Eugene McCarthy who did NOT drop out. After Kennedy was killed, the party, which did not want Eugene McCarthy (too anti-Vietnam war), engineered Humphrey, LBJ's vice-president and a faithful hack.

Why we keep on

The riots will be averted if a larger percentage of people become Ron Paul supporters---even if they already voted differently. This is why we need a LARGE March on Washington---very visible support. We need to keep on canvassing and talking to people everywhere about RP. Order those Ron Pauls at the bar---get people talking! Keep writing letters to the editoe of the local papers. Just keep on----we'll become like a dripping faucet---everyone will get used to hearing us. Don't give up on your friends and neighbors because the primary is over.

This will make the convention so much easier. If people can say, 'well I would vote for RP if the primary were today.'

Republican Don't Riot

It just isn't our way.

I think if RP steals the show, there will be trouble.

Hate povery, not the poor - Gandhi

This is encouraging

I didn't know this but I think it is good news. But don't the super delegates have more say in the Democratic Party than in Republican?

Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

republicans don't have super

republicans don't have super delegates.

They're call unpledged delegates in the repub party

And that means us.

We are not party activists (we are American activists). We are not party faithful, but platform aware.

The Democrats did not have super delegates back then

I guess the MSM forgot this??

Keep this bumped or put it on the front page.

The riots will come from

The riots will come from McCain and Huckabee supporters. They will not understand and will be furious.

"Donna Brazile says she will resign from the Democratic National Committee if superdelegates determine the party's nominee."
--Democracy at work

That'll be our guy....Except

That'll be our guy....Except we may cause the riot.

Ain't gonna happen....

Americans had more guts, back then..........

I think we should cause a riot either way :-)
