2-27 email from the campaign
when did Paul concede "that there is now little chance of a brokered convention"?
February 27, 2008
Dear Friends:
It has now been almost a month since the majority of Maine municipal Republican caucuses were held. As you probably know Ron Paul did very well. He came in third in the presidential preference poll, edged out by John McCain by a very slim margin. The winner of the preference poll, Mitt Romney has ended his candidacy and thrown his support to John McCain. Ron Paul has conceded that there is now little chance of a brokered convention, but has pledged to continue his campaign to bring his message of peace, freedom and prosperity to the Republican convention. The prize now is to have a significant influence in the future direction of the Republican party.
All of you who were part of our effort in Maine should be very proud of what you achieved. However our work is not yet over. The presidential preference polls at the Maine Republican Caucuses on Feb 1st, 2nd and 3rd were an indicator of grass roots support, but have no impact on the selection of delegates to the State GOP convention. Our campaign actually did better than McCain in electing delegates. Those delegates will elect delegates to the Republican National Convention at the state convention on May 2nd and 3rd. Our task now is to spread Ron Paul's message by electing national convention delegates. We now have two months to organize our effort to accomplish this task. Here are some details of what we are doing:
State Convention Delegates
Stavros Mendros has remained on staff to assist with organizing our delegates. If you are a precinct leader and have a list of Paul delegates selected at your municipal caucus (even if it is just you) please e-mail their names and town to stavros@ronpaul2008.com . If you are a delegate, but don't have a Ron Paul precinct leader in your town, please do the same.
Delegate fees are due to the Maine Republican Party no later than March 27th. The fee is $25 and pays for the cost of attending the convention, both delegates and alternates must pay the fee to attend the convention. Some GOP town and city committees are asking for checks from individuals sooner. Please cooperate if you can. If you cannot pay the fee, please email ME@RonPaul2008.com with your name and town. We have already paid the Maine GOP for delegate fees from the campaign, but there is still some unallocated money available.
Stay in touch with your local meetup groups. These groups are now for delegate organization and should be limited to volunteers and delegates.
If you are not a delegate, but would like to be one, please e-mail stavros@ronpaul2008.com . There is still an opportunity to fill some delegate slots by March 20th.
State Convention preparation
The Ron Paul campaign will have a booth at the State Convention. The Kennebec County group will be in charge of designing, setting up and staffing the booth. Peter and Bonnie Tucker have agreed to organize this effort. If you want to help out please e-mail them at bjpktucker@yahoo.com .
We will also be hosting a hospitality suite at the state convention. If you would like to help with the hospitality suite please contact me at ken@ronpaul2008.commailto:ken@ronpaul2008.com
If you are a delegate please plan to attend the convention for both days. If you absolutely cannot attend for two days, May 2nd is the most important of the two days.
Other matters
Some Ron Paul activists are now running for state office. This is a great way to continue to spread the message of freedom. Wayne Leach from Winslow is running for State Senate, and so is Tom Golebiewski from Raymond. If you are interested in running for office check out this link: http://mainegov-images.in... .
Please remove Ron Paul signs from any public property and roadways. State law requires that we take down these signs. Feel free to proudly display your signs on private property
Please stay in touch. If you have questions or concerns email me ken@ronpaul2008.com . Meanwhile I will send out another update in a few weeks.
Yours Truly,
Ken Lindell

A downer email
I agree with the poster who asked if anyone at HQ checks these emails for impact before sending them out.
I'm extremely gung ho but did you really have to tell me again we have virtually no chance to win the election. Screw that!
I'm STUNNED frankly at how badly managed the campaign seems to be. Just tiny little things could re-energize the base. Instead, we're doused with cold water AGAIN.
Stop clobbering your supporters, HQ! I want to change this country and you're not helping when you pull this crap!
Ron Paul Supporters in Maine - Opportunity
If you are not yet a delegate, please consider going anyway. Check with the coordinators above, but my guess is that those delegates can send anyone they want to the national convention, regardless of who they support. If you are a registered Republican and meet any membership requirements, you may be able to be elected a delegate. You do not have to have already been made one, locally.
State GOP parties may well be more interested in filling delegate slots to have their state represented than they are in trying to get a particular candidate elected. They probably have trouble every year getting people who are willing to take the time to go.

Great E-Mail! Good Job!
Not negative at all. Tells Mainers what they can be doing. "Little chance of a brokered convention" is a direct quote from Ron Paul's message post-Feb. 5 and not news.
Dr. Paul has been accused, often, of tilting at windmills and not being realistic, but in fact he is always brutally realistic. That's why he is very reluctant to overstate his chances. But this race is not over until the delegates vote in September.
John McCain may still blow a gasket. Ron Paul's campaign looks better and better. He's got to look like the Republicans' only hope. Who else has us?
Much of the HQ staff has been transferred temporarily to the Congressional campaign and they can't work on this one without paperwork issues with the FEC. It's good to know that both campaigns are being supported.

delegates ##
Watch Ron Paul's speech at the U of Texas .... does he sound like a man not running for president??
Ignore the infiltrators to this and other Ron Paul support sites. The delegates are .......required by the national republican party rules ........... to vote for the candidate that won the primary in their state when they attend the national convention... .... That is national party rules .....so in my state (Utah the .....stupid state of denial) ...people (the Utah sheep)..voted 90% for Romney and threw their votes away......( he dropped out 2 days later... And the 36 delegates .....(in this winner take all state) .....will be required to vote for Romney on the first ballot... at the national convention....
Our job now is to work the precinct's ....and get the Ron Paul supporters .... to the caucus meetings march 25th and elect supporters of Ron Paul to the state convention, ......... and then those delegates will go to the state convention and at that time they will ........elect 36 delegates to go to the national convention. ..........On the first ballot they will vote for Romney and on the second ballot they can vote for ........anyone they want .......
That .........my friends is why ........Ron Paul keeps asking .........on his web site for us .........to be precinct leaders in our voting precinct's ........and continue this campaign ........by passing out slim jims and phoning and putting up signs and giving out DVD's and basically campaigning until someone wins the nomination. ....... McCain does not have enough delegates, and it is possible for him to go to the convention and still not have the delegates.
Sitting on the computer and not campaigning is not enough. Do something to help this campaign !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you are just an infiltrator.............. We cannot expect you to be helpful except to spread your negative attitude................. Thank you for running Ron Paul ........as without you I would have no honest candidate .........with a proven trustworthy track record to vote for.....
Don't Make Too Much Of This
Let's face it, a lot of the state co-ordinators are amateurs, and careful and inspiring writing is not, shall we say, their strong suit. A poor e-mail from the Maine coordinator, and not exactly constructed to elicit contributions or volunteers, but don't let that put you off. The campaign continues! Next time around, we'll hopefully have a more experienced and professional staff.
Next Time Around? Please Feel Free To Elaborate What You Mean
Vote RON PAUL 2008
Win or lose, there will be
Win or lose, there will be another campaign in 2012, hopefully with a candidate who subscribes to Ron Paul's views.
I hope you are right.
I don't think that we can continue for 4 more years with our current policies. Yes, there might be an election in 2012 but a lot of people might not vote because they are too busy standing in bread lines. Then again, they've kept this thing going longer than I ever thought they could with a monetary system that is fundamentally flawed. I'm still holding out hope for the 2008 race. McCain could have health problems or lose his temper. His campaign is making mis-steps left and right and there is a long time until the convention.
if it's all over, why is ron
if it's all over, why is ron asking for more contributions? it ain't over til it's over!
I'm with you! FIGHT ON.
Ken can go whimper off into the corner if he wants. I'm nowhere near conceding to McCain, or anyone else. Ron is taking Bernanke to school -- again -- today and the NWO still sucks, so I'm all in!
Stand up, patriots!

Why would the campaign do something like this?
This email along with the email after Super Tuesday does more to deflate the grassroots than anything the corporate controlled media can do to us. I just don't get it.
Are they trying to run people off?
Read it Again
Your response is not justified. They asked for volunteers in Maine. There was no attempt to run people off.

Whether that was the INTENT or not is irrelevant...
THAT is what it in effect will do.
Saying you didn't INTEND to burn down a building when you get caught holding matches and a can of gasoline does NOT absolve you of arson.
The line that strikes me as most ARROGANT...
Is where he says:
EXCUSE ME? The "meetups" are (and unless Maine is different, always have been) paid for by PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTERS... and thus they are technically "private property" and are free to do whatever they want to with those groups.
For anyone with the campaign to imagine for even one minute that they have the right or ability to TELL the meetup organizers or groups or members WHO should or should not belong to and use that service is the height of hubris and arrogance.
And finally, for a campaign staffer to even HINT that other people should somehow "leave" those meetup groups... is just asinine.
And to do so in an email that was sent out to the entire NATIONAL list of Ron Paul supporters is... entirely unacceptable and destructive.
To me this is proof that there is no-one left at HQ that has two brain cells rubbing together. (Anyone have an email address for this "Ken Lindell" joker?)
Subject: Main State Convention and More
It would have been nice, if "Maine" had been spelled correctly in the subject line of the e-mail!
Does *anyone* review these mass e-mails for rudimentary spelling errors and/or catastrophic impact on grass roots supporters *and* the campaign by opposition media?
Given the "Message from Ron" e-mails of 2/8 and 2/18, I may unsubscribe from HQ e-mails!
Ron conceded those EXACT words in a previous "message"...
...after Romney dropped out. He then went on to talk up the importance of him keeping his congressional seat, followed by no third party run and a dedication to the Republican party.
How does that make you feel? I know what it did to me.

This article sounded negative as hell to me, as if all was over/lost. I say go away article, go bother somebody else -- Like perhaps JOHN MCCAIN who very well may be proven unfit for duty very soon now. Even unfit to be a United States Senator. That would move our hero RON PAUL one step closer regardless of what the article has to say about removing signs, etc.
And don't think of me as Dear Friend.
agreed, sounded negative as
agreed, sounded negative as hell. My first thought was that it was the work of another campaign trying to derail Paul's, but the headers seem to jive with past emails from the RP campaign... Not sure what to make of it, and I definitely don't remember hearing that Paul conceded that a brokered convention was unlikely. Anyone know what the heck he was referring to?
