Devvy Kidd - March on GOP Convention, not D.C.
Here is Devvy Kidd's latest article. I think she makes a very compelling argument for marching in St. Paul during the GOP convention. This idea has merit and should be seriously considered by all supporters of Dr. Paul. It makes sense to me. I'll make my hotel reservations now so I have a place to stay whether I'm a delegate or not. Article follows...

Why I Don't Support The Ron Paul Freedom March
By Devvy 2-29-08
I have been inundated with inquiries and encouragement to participate in an event being called the 'Ron Paul Freedom March.'
Regular readers of my columns know I am a committed supporter to Congressman Paul's run for the White House. However, this is one event I cannot support for the following reasons.
First, let me give you a little history so you can understand why I believe that while this is a feel good exercise, I don't believe it's a good use of human and financial resources.
In 1991, I " woke up" and began my journey of research and activism. In 1993, after nine months of picketing the Federal Reserve in Denver and collecting signatures from around the country, my Project '93 marched on Washington, DC. Back then the Park Police were still using grids and estimated our crowd at 4,400. We delivered 1,763,000 signed petitions to abolish the Federal Reserve and the IRS. Speeches were made. During the rally, we collected another 23,000 signatures for the petition. It was a beautiful day in Washington and every one felt good at the end of the day.
Despite massive efforts, there was NO media. They were following Hillary around the capitol as she was pitching her unconstitutional national health care scheme.
The Clerk of the House wanted to turn my truck load of boxes with those one million seven hundred sixty three thousand petitions over to the Park Police to count and shred. I said in a pig's ear. A handful of my volunteers broke them down and delivered batches to every congressional and senate office. When it was over and done, Congress went about their business of spending us into bankruptcy while the Clinton's continued their agenda. Nothing changed.
Over the years there have been many efforts for marches by patriots. They all fizzle with a couple hundred people. Perhaps it will be different for this effort, but it costs a fortune to go to DC; hotels within 20 miles (except for flea bag transients) cost big bux. One lady named Diane (forget, but was in the mid-'90s) spent a fortune on her march. Did every patriot radio show, sent out flyers for months. In the end, about 150 people showed up. Was anything accomplished by Diane and so many other groups and their 150 or 200 angry fellow Americans standing in front of the capitol? Sadly, no. The exception to these events are the Rolling Thunder vets.
Another thing is the climate in DC. After 911, access to the people's house is now virtually impossible. DC is like a police compound. I know, I've been there several times and I resent being treated like a criminal. Any rally is going to be pushed to their boundaries far away from the capitol while the criminals inside go about their business.
I ask in earnest, what do supporters of this event hope to accomplish?
1. Bush/Cheney do not care if a million people show up, just like the pro-life marches which draw a half million or more each year. Besides, neither will be in town on any date selected, you can be sure of that.
2. The powerful unseen hand that owns Washington, DC, laughs at what they consider puny efforts by 'patriots.' Rockefeller and the rest of the money lenders don't care about this event because they own Congress and the White House. It's just business as usual for them. It won't change until the personnel inside the capitol and the White House are replaced.
3. The dominant media will ignore this event. It might make the local news out of MD and No. Virginia, but that'll be about it.
4. I timed my event for September 29th because I knew Congress would be in full session. The budget has to be done by midnight, 30 Sept, so DC is at maximum activity during that week. Everyone was in town.
5. As Ron Paul is vilified by his own party, those members of Congress who might happen to be in DC that day won't care about this event because they still control the legislative process and right along with the Democrats, do not want a limited form of republican government.
6. I have read two dates for this event: July 4th and June 21st. First of all, no one is in Washington, DC on the Fourth of July except tourists. I know, because I've been there on 4 July and seen a half million people converge on the Washington Memorial. I could hardly wait to get to the airport, the congestion was so bad. Everyone is there for fireworks, corn dogs and beer. Demonstrations in DC are as common as birds singing in the trees. They go on every day from every group you can imagine. "Free Tibet" people sit in front of the barrier lines at the White House. "Let's Dance Naked" folks have their 25 person demonstration and on and on and on. That's Washington, DC. Ho, hum.
Congress is gone, out of town for July 4th. So are the major media because there's nothing to cover for their agenda. As for June 21st, this is the beginning of summer. Families plan for their vacations during June. Yes, they are freedom fighters, but let me give you one example. A friend in Sacramento wanted to go to some patriot event in DC many years ago. It was in June and his wife said, no way. We are taking the kids to Disneyland and that's that. The mouse won out.
Why have a freedom march in a location where the only people there are tourists? The king pins and law breakers (Congress) won't be around and neither will the media.
But, the GOP convention is a whole different situation.
<>
The world media WILL be there.
All the delegates WILL be there.
If vote fraud affected the outcome of the primaries, which I believe is the case, then those delegates cannot be committed to McCain.
I believe we can bring McCain down. All of us should be working to expose this corrupt, evil man and drive him out of the race.
Swift Boating of McCain Long Over Due
Moral Obligations to Stop McCain
If we are successful, and I believe we can be, then that puts the GOP power brokers in a tough spot. They will have to draft another neo-con, i.e., Newt, and see if they can sell that stink. It will put their plans in chaos with little time to recover.
You should find out who the GOP delegates are from your state. For California see link below. Call your Secretary of State's office and get their names or go on-line.
http://www.sos.ca.gov/ele...
This is a fluid situation and, as I said, we should work to get a few hundred thousand Ron Paul supporters to that convention. Can you imagine a quarter million Ron Paul supporters surrounding the EXCEL center with 100' long banners: Ron Paul or good-bye GOP! I guarantee you that would be a huge message to the party and more importantly those delegates.
THAT would shake things up and show the power brokers who run that convention that we're not going to take one of their globalists as the nominee. The EXCEL Center sits down town. St. Paul-Minneapolis in September is beautiful AND it's far less expensive than DC. That convention IS the heart beat of the whole race for the White House.
Instead of broke Americans trying to scrape together some money to ride a bus or whatever to go stand in DC to a non audience, why not organize to make the biggest demonstration in the history of this country at that GOP convention? Where the world's media and those delegates will be - who will hear and see you.
This is just my personal opinion. I have budgeted my limited funds for the convention. I will be there because that's where everything will be decided regarding the GOP nomination. It's the big kahuna. As for the position of the City of St. Paul, precedent has already been set; a good legal team needs to be in place when application is made for permits:
City relents, will allow protests during DNC
With all due respect, I sincerely hope Congressman Ron Paul changes his mind and decides it would be a far, far better use of human and financial resources to target the convention and not go through with an event in DC this summer. As he has only taken the steps for an 'exploratory committee,' not a lot will be lost. I hope to see you at that convention.
Cordially,
Devvy Kidd

in every relevant thread I can find here on Daily Paul.
It looks as if enthusiasm is overtaking good sense and shrewd planning in the minds of too many people, and this is not a good sign. Think, people!
Even Dr. Paul cannot make a clear case for why a march on this city is so vitally important, while he does say there are real risks, which we ought to be able to figure out for ourselves. Besides, the dollars that will be spent there could go to any number of better investments to support the success of this campaign!!!!
Go Ron Paul | Go Grassroots
I'm Going To Both, DC's Gonna Be A Pre-Game Party...
Kinda like, Tell'em what your doing, Then Show'em how to do it.
Gather 4 Paul on the DC Mall, Then we show-up in St. Paul in the Fall... and make a point, that Winner Take All :-)
Remember the past as you look forward to today...
WOW! Those are some really good points
Bump
Find an upcoming national
Find an upcoming national event like a championship game or the April 15th Strike Day.
People in every state decend on your state capitol in caravans with hundreds of cars bearing signs. Drive slow. Block all lanes across expressways going into the capitol area. Make people late for work.
Schedule rallies in central city parks. Have music, sound systems and small government speakers.
Contact the media about the rallies but don't publicize the traffic jams.
Get TV coverage for the message but not the havoc on the highways.
Just an idea.
interesting point...i absolutely agree
ya know... we don't NEED media coverage... we just need to be REALLY VISIBLE in our communities. that was one BIG advantage of the blimp. it was visibility and had a 'call to action' to the masses.
remember rudy saying 'those ron paul people are everywhere'... i think it is time to re-visit that... on all the candidates functions. let's just be REALLY VISIBLE.
your idea is brilliant!
two strategies at once...
1)public events and visibility (for our fellow citizens to know rp is still here and there are options in this election and solutions to the mess the country is in)
2)party events (delegate process) and stealth (trojan horse) (to take over the party from the inside)
I agree with Devvy, D.C.
I agree with Devvy,
D.C. rallies only get attention if there is blood shed or some kind of riot activity. We don't have the numbers to jam D.C.
Even the World Bank and IMF protesters who were 'professional' mainly just irritated business owners around the Capitol District. Streets were shut down killing restaurant business for a week.
Wherever it is
We had better decide fast. People need to plan for an event like this and all the talk about MN or DC is only going to make people loose interest. I did like the point about the media being all over MN for the convention. I was opposed to marching in MN at first but the article does make sense.
Nationwide Simultaneous June 21st Rallies
Everyone will not be able to make it to DC or the GOP convention. But everyone who can't can rally in their own city or precinct.
We can ask that if it is possible for you to make it to DC to do so.
For those that will not be able to make it let's create a situation so that they can show their support also.
Here is an idea that will magnify our results and increase our numbers while making the day hard to ignore.
Revolution Phase 2;
We will continue to campaign for Ron Paul.
We will purchase and read "The Revolution - A Manifesto" by Ron Paul.
We will keep our meetup groups active in every precinct.
We will maintain one centralized command and leadership.
We will educate, recruit and mobilze the people into the next phase.
We will drop a big money bomb.
We will wage grassroot media blitzes in every precinct.
We will coordinate and execute simultaneous June 21st rallies in DC and every precinct in the nation.
We will invite our comrades abroad to show solidarity on June 21st to make it a worldwide statement of peace and liberty.
Every precinct will get a head count and it's own vote tally.
We will publish our numbers. Our numbers, dedication and organization will be astounding.
The media and all of the nay sayers will then have to try to cover up, ignore and downplay these events, and in doing so they will only fan the fires of our revolution. As a result we will grow even more motivated.
The people will see themselves come together from all over the nation and the world and be emboldened. Then the people will not rest until the government serves the people and not the other way around.
Ron Paul said that this is about more than just one man.
He is right. It is about our children.
It is about our brave men and women in the armed services, who have invested in this revolution at home, while fighting one abroad.
It is about our economy, our land, our privacy, our liberty, and our honor.
Long live Ron Paul, "The Father of The Second Revolution."
Ron Paul for president.
The great oaks of today are the nuts of yesterday that stood their ground.
God Bless The rEVOLution !!
God Save Us All !!
When Devvy Kidd runs for president I will take orders from her.
DR. PAUL SAYS THE RALLY IS IN DC.
THE DOC WAS FIGHTING FOR DEVVY'S FREEDOM BEFORE DEVVY'S PARENTS MET.
Actually Devvy is
just a few years younger than Dr. Paul...but very well preserved
What Dr. Paul hasn't made clear is what exactly we are to gain from this march, though he has said that there are real risks involved.
Are we to start being "snowed" by this man now before we've even elected him??
Let's admire, respect and support—but not worship—him. He has not made the case why we should do this thing then and there...
Go Ron Paul | Go Grassroots
Dr Paul said DC
So it will be DC first, then St Paul.
I'm For St. Paul
I too, was originally for the March on Washington, but Devvy, you have changed my mind. Thanks for that!
What if we asked The Minnesota Ron Paul Meetup Group http://ronpaul.meetup.com... to help in the process? This group has nearly 600 members, and there are many more Ron Paul Meetups in surrounding cities and towns.
They may be willing to help by securing permits, and lodging. Our Ron Paul Meetup Group here in Springfield, MA, will be meeting again on Monday (March 10th) and while we are currently in the process of securing Delegates for Ron Paul, the topic of a March for Ron Paul has come up frequently. I'm sure we could garner additional support for traveling to St. Paul.
brilliant
holy crap!!! 600 members?!!! that rocks!
Finally
I can post finally. Dont know what happened before where I couldn't register.....
I think we should do both marches!! There is no reason why we can't. They are far enough apart in dates that it will make time for it to be interesting. Washington DC and St.Paul !!
This is what I know. They are taking applications right now for protests in St. Paul during the RNC. I also know that the city of St.Paul just bought 10,000 tasers.
If you want to protest the GOP convention without the permit, make sure you wear your copper mesh in-sewn padded jerseys!
I'll be there though, just call the strikes!
No follow the campaign
Why do you guys think it would be better to do the opposite of what Dr. Paul says. While this is good intentioned, he has not asked us to do this. You must trust him and follow what he says. Think of the well intentioned mistakes that we are now suffering from. Unless he says this is a good idea, I will not think it is. Doing both would be fine with me, but we must focus on the march he asked for first.
She's right, forget Washington D.C.
That wouldn't make one tittle of difference to anyone. The real shootout will be in St. Paul, and I think McCain should be a little worried. He is not a popular man, and the GOP is smelling up politics, thanks to Bush & Co., and to think another pro war guy is going to help? Not a chance. The GOP may ridicule Ron Paul because the "handlers" tell them to, but Ron Paul is the only guy that can re-invigorate the conservative spirit. Shame on the conservative talking heads on TV and Radio. They had a chance to come out early in support of Ron Paul, and we might me looking at a different picture. Now, there stuck with trying to eat crow with McCain.....but eat crow is what they'll do. They're trying to put a little lipstick on that pig, and sell him. Could've had a V-8? Couldv'e had a RON PAUL!
Right on Devy
This makes a lot of sense to me...taking DC by 'storm' is probably not such an effective way to get RP as a presidential candidate nor get the 'message' out.
Devy is right, the media will be there. Just think back to Chicago and the protests there, things got ugly but there was a ton of attention to the angst and message!
I am for this 100%!!
We sat down with one of our
We sat down with one of our bankers.
Yesterday my wife and I were out running errands and we stopped in to one of the banks we do business with to initiate a bank wire.
As it happened we got the branch manager, a Vice President of this bank who we really enjoy hanging out with.
My wife told her about our plans to withdraw our funds on April 15th. She did it like she was just trying to be helpful and giving the manager a 'heads-up' - not to worry.
We ended up talking for almost an hour.
The banker asked for You Tube links about the April 15th strike and she gave us her personal email address.
This is the email I sent to her and her police officer husband:
Vicki,
At first thought this first video may seem way out there. So I sent along videos from this week's Congressional testimony of Ben Bernanke.
General Strike, do not work, go to school or buy gasoline or anything else, withdraw most of your money from your bank, cancel your cable TV propaganda machine. Protest the Federal Reserve, big media propaganda and your enslavement!

...and her reply???
I am a little upset you gave a "heads up"...
I understand you were coming from a place of innocence, and good intent when talking to the VP OF A MAJOR BANKING INSTITUTION! but didn't it occur to you that if you give them a heads up they will shut their doors when people try to go get their money? Or their "websites" will suddenly be "out of service" for the time being and therefore freeze all the people's cash in their accounts???? i AM SORRY TO SAY THIS BUT I THINK THAT WAS THE MOST STUPID THING A PERSON COULD HAVE DONE AT THIS POINT...How do you think the VP of a major bank branch GOT TO BE THE VP??? Not by being an acitivist or advocate FOR the people!!!
I am just amazed because I would tell anyone EXCEPT those in the banking industry. I now recommend getting your money out the week before the 15th...CASH YOUR CHECKS INSTEAD OF DEPOSITING THEM...and please...FOR HUMAN'S SAKE, DON'T TELL THE BANKS DIRECTLY WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE PLANNING!!!
So, now can you please tell us in detail the bankers reaction, and maybe her position on this and her view? Has she seen Freedom to Facism? Get her to watch that movie too...
As always the illustrious
As always the illustrious Devvy demonstrates her vast wisdom and intelligence.
Demonstrations are a dime a dozen in D.C.
And I think even a massive demonstration at the National Convention may go unnoticed by most Average Joe's and Jane's. Even though I support Devvy on the need for a 'first strike' in that venue.
However demonstrations in every city in America on April 15th are not a common occurrence.
- Staying out of school and work are not common.
- Withdrawing your money out of the banks is not common.
- Refusing to buy anything is not common.
- Convoys of strikers in signed vehicles, driving slow during rush hour - backing traffic up is not common.
- Wearing a white armband and gathering with picket signs is not common.
- Getting thousands of contacts on your email list to take to the streets is not common.

D.C. or St. Paul?!
After hearing about DEVVY KIDD's idea, If Dr.Paul still wants us to march on Washington, I would do both.
Now, about St. Paul. Because the access around the convention building on the convention day will be limited, I think perhaps we actually should march the day before the convention ( the media should already be there), and the next day, rally around with our signs, and RP clothing..
Why not do both?

For all of you worrying about a '68 rerun of the Democratic convention...that may happen...for the Democrats.
I think we'll be ok. If not you'll wake up the next day, hopefully, and resolve to get more involved in politics and really sell the message and change this. Remember George Patton said "never take counsel of your fears."

I believe it is critical that the event in Washington or St. Paul be promoted as a rally of support for Dr. Paul and his ideals, that way it will be much more difficult for the authorities to justify aggressive or violent treatment of participants
Yes. There is no reason to protest, blockade,
burn in effigy, whatever frustration and even anger we feel. Rally not protest. Hopeful, freedom loving people as part of a positive RISING movement, not civil disobedience. Four days of conventioneering, the media are bored, they will point the cameras at us, no quiet-riot needed.
Because who are we really rallying for? Read all the posts and the answer is clear, we are rallying first and foremost (though there are other reasons) for the media attention, and what is media attention besides a megaphone to senior citizens, soccer Moms, sheeple and just plain lost Americans who yearn for a better way.
Small government is the better way, the only way to maximize peace and prosperity. Rally not protest. Fist pumping will just confuse and scare the crap out of John Q. Public.
We're expressing ourselves yes, but we're selling here folks. Rally not protest. -JP
Positive restoration- not angry revolt.
You are right on.
I LOVE the idea of 100'
I LOVE the idea of 100' signs saying "Ron Paul or GOOD BYE GOP". 20 or 30 of those would get some attention
Wow
1,763,000 signed petitions to abolish the Federal Reserve and the IRS.
And it still exists? Good God is that disheartening. That scares me more than McCain being president. The above fact to me says politicians are not listening and we need to clean house in the next elections until everyone not on board is replaced with someone who is.
As Gun Ho as I was for DC
As Gun Ho as I was for DC this summer Devvy has swayed me, I now think her idea is better.
Interesting Visual Imagery
It would certainly create a spectacle that can't be ignored..... 100s of thousands surrounding the convention center and effectively creating an "embargo", or "blockade" of the convention. The GOP insiders hijacked the party, the RP supporters politely but firmly show discontent by hijacking the convention until adequately and fully recognized. oh wait aren't there just a couple of internet spammers out there?
Now that would leave the bystanders..... agog.
Yes, this makes more sense.
Yes, this makes more sense. it is not as centrally located but, it will be summer out and a good time.
I've had a lot of reservations about a D.C. rally.
Distance, time, cost, lack of media, federal goons, weather, no shows; but I couldn't articulate them as well as Devvy Kidd. However I'm not sure where the Republican Convention would stand on the danger scale. Would it be a family oriented event? Would skinheads and white supremists throw a disruptive wrench in the works? What about the police who are going to be armed to the teeth and ready to inflict God knows what on what we intend to be a peaceful march? Don't forget, Ron Paul won't be the only candidate there. McInsane and Huckster will have their supporters trying to shout us down (or worse) and what could be some very radical adversaries of all three candidates. But maybe I'm overly paranoid. Probably the worse that'll happen is someone will bump a Hillary4U&Me song and cause a mass gag reflex. Let's forward this to the exploratory committee. It may not be all that bad at all.
You make sense Devvy
This is a very good argument to change the march to the convention. Dr Paul needs to see this post. Hopefully Devvy can get thru to the good doctor
Just be carefull when ya cross any old bridges...in MN

That has a good sound to it already, doesn't it. In all seriousness, I would hope that the author of this article can be contacted by someone (??) and encouraged to touch base with RP and his HQ. This seems very important and needs to be handled ASAP.
My comment below...
This is a great way to save ink. Print stickers with only "Ron" and "Dr." and put them on St. Paul signs. Half the work is already done for us!

rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." --Thomas Jefferson
I think
you should find a way to make sure that Ron Paul sees this article. I think the idea is perfect!
I would love to be able to make both marches, but I just can't afford that. This makes the most sense to me.
Another benefit of a St.
Another benefit of a St. Paul location versus D.C. -- Minnesota is in the middle of the country so it would seem that MORE people could come since it would not require the West Coast people to travel all the way to the East Coast. It seems more fair that people from both coasts should travel to St. Paul.
I Second That...
The logistics is great, Could not be better unless it was smack dab in the center. I'm up on this Idea...
