Pentagon stabs American in the back

I think it was three days ago I heard on NPR what sounded like a report that the Air Force wanted to replace its aging fleet of tankers and that Boeing would be building some huge number of modified 747's for the purpose, creating 9000 new jobs.

Now I read that the Pentagon is giving that contract to Airbus. So your tax dollars will go to the military and be spent on jobs in Europe. Just great.

Us Brits

have been doing it for years, it's payback time.

Jumpjets

Yeah, we let the americans build the british jump jet in the U'S.
All I was implying is that the voters and GOP in washington seattle could use this news against JmC. A mate of mine in the U.K works 24/7 repairing and putting right Jeeps & chryslers so that is US generated work over here I suppose.

This is McCain's issue

You have probably all heard McCain tout the "I stopped 23 billion in pork being spent on air refuelers"

Well half true, he is the figure head for the CAW "Citizens against Governemnt Waste" (I've been a part of it for years) they are the ones that exposed it.

The deal was that the Boeing would build 74s, then the gov't would pay to convert them to refuelers, then lease them for 20 years then pay to convert them back to 747s and boeing kept them all in all it cost the government 1.5x what just buying a new plane would, and they only got them for 20 years.

A study was done an found that the current fleet was sufficient until 2020 with a phased replacement from 2020 to 2035.

Now the study was done before Iraq & Afghanistan so I'm sure there is a need to replace them now, they have been working a lot of over time.

It is interesting though that now rather than Boeing getting the refueler contract it is Northrup Grumman and Airbus? I know its a european company.

So yeah more then a little F'ed up even if they are needed.

Swings

and roundabouts I guess to be fair. european countries employ americans in the U.S. Nokia, etc and we have US jobs here too. It is more ammo against JmcCain though.

There was a comparing the bids insert which does not show up online which appeared to me that, in a side by side comparison, Boeing's offer was less of a plane that the winning bidders.

"I really believe the Air Force is scared of John McCain now," said Nisbet, the industry analyst. "He's been so anti-Boeing since that incident, they didn't want to take any chances they'd tangle with him over this deal."
