I Think we have the Delegates...

Greetings Fellow Liberty Republicans!

I just attended my county Republican convention this weekend and I have to say, I was very pleased by what I saw there.

First off, the lawn outside the convention center was carpeted by campaign signs from all of the candidates. I am pleased to say that Ron Paul signs dominated the landscape! I would say that for every sign a candidate had up, we had at least three. Kudos to Carl Bruining for equipping the supporters in this region to get the word out!

As I went into the convention (I am a county and congressional delegate) to be seated, I saw a lot of local politicians had booths. What I did not see was McCain very well represented. Ron Paul’s booth was big and informative (there was always a group standing there). Huckabee also had a booth, but it was not as well attended.

The first person who got up to speak was Marilyn Musgrave, Congresswoman from the 4th Congressional District in Colorado. She really tried to sell everyone there on the idea of John McCain as the nominee. Funny thing is, it did not look like her heart was in it. She was merely towing the party line. People in the audience were actually standing up and denouncing her words (not too rudely, but vocal none the less). Other than Musgrave, there was only one person who got up and spoke for McCain and I think he was the last minute/only choice of speaker for McCain.

This man got up and actually used words and phrases like “Constitution,” and “return to conservative values,” when referring to McCain. He said he was upset that he was the only one who wanted to get up and speak for McCain. Poor, deluded man…

What really lifted my hopes was when Carl Bruining got up and spoke for Dr. Paul. Every time he spoke of Dr. Paul’s platform, the room erupted in applause.

Here is why my hopes are up…

As I sat there, I realized that most of the delegates in that room were Ron Paul supporters. The reason I know this, is because we had a secret sign that we all went and picked up before the convention got under way. It was not obvious to those who were there, but it was to those of us Dr. Paul supporters.

We had pulled off what nobody yet realizes…we had the majority of delegates!

I cannot wait for State and Congressional…and the National convention! If this is an indicator, we are in the calm before the storm. When the convention in Minneapolis happens, the world will be stunned. Why? Because we have quietly infiltrated the party and we are taking it over.

Hang in there folks…the battle seems to have been lost, but the war is far from over. While they think we are in defeat, we are marshaling our forces for the great battle to be fought in Minnesota. The fight that will take back our party and ultimately, our nation.

God Bless Ron Paul

God Bless the Liberty Republicans

And God Bless this Republic!

So how did we end up in Colorado?

Seems like we did fine in Texas and MO. Any news from Ohio?

Dr. Steve Parent

I think there's a trend

I think there's a trend starting here...

I've read these kinds of messages alot lately...

McCain has 1,191 empty seats with nobody to fill them. His delegates are on paper...they are virtual delegates.

Ron Paul is going to have more delegates in St. Paul, MN than insane John McCain.

Hope is on the way!

Would having people that

already attended their county convention attend others help or distract? We need to take advantage of our experience and keep on Louisianing them...

Not Sure

It all depends on the rules at your county, state and Congressional conventions and the need to be vocal or stealth mode.

county executive meeting

Hello citizens,
I'm a new precinct chairman here in El Paso, TX. Recently we had an executive meeting of the county party. Not one of the local party people were for MeCain. We Paulites have joined up and are making ourselves useful and quietly spreading the good news of liberty, prosperity, and peace. It looks like the rest of you guys are busy too.

Wherabouts

in CO are you? I'm from the Springs originally, stuck in NC for the time being, but I plan to help out the CS Meetup by calling delegates this weekend....

Thank You so much!!!

Thank You so much!!!

Kudo's

never give up, stay involved. We will take back our country peacefully through truth and activism. Those of you who are not delegates should be signing up for your town committee's.

Thank you

Finally a post worth reading!

Keep This On the Front Page

With Romney out why can't we take Colorado, Montana, Alaska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Nevada.
If we all go underground and try to get ourselves unbound making them think we are McCain supporters. I know the rules are difficult but anyone who votes for McCain and does not realize the war in Iraq is making us at more risk, can't be that bright. They are going to be in for a surprise in Sept.

3 RP delegates elected

at my county convention, at least three RP delegates were elected (out of ten). it may not be a majority, but it's progress. the best part is that this is happening EVERYWHERE. keep it up.

what county and state?

what county and state?

I know at my precinct no

I know at my precinct no one like mcinsane... i'm sure those romney folks will look hard at Ron Paul!

I'm pretty sure that

I'm pretty sure that Colorado Delegates aren't bound. So that means I can vote for anyone I please..

They are not...

Colorado delegates are not bound...no one has been able to show me otherwise.

These are the posts we need to see!

I'm a little tired of reading people whining about how the campaign has abandoned us or has failed or given up. What a load of crap. The campaign is still very much underway - they're sitting on a substantial chunk of cash, a growing base of highly motivated supporters on the ground and a presence WITHIN the Republican party that is rapidly but quietly growing in size and influence.

Seriously people - the man is campaigning just as hard as ever, but within the absoutely critical state of Texas. I trust his instincts - I'm not about to second guess a statesman who's been doing this for decades, with a hugely impressive success rate. He's asked his supporters to carry ont the fight across the US while the Congressional race takes place. This one thing he's asked of us - the least we can do is keep the faith and fight for him and for his ideals, and for each other, I might add.

Keep the faith, friends, and keep fighting. We're going to beat these f***ers at their own game. With our raft of delegates (that they have no idea we have), with McCain and Huckabee's lacklustre support and with the half million supporters rallying outside the convention building in St Paul, banners flying overhead ... they won't know what hit them.

Live Free or Die - Amen to that

That sounds great, but...

...if McCain walks away with enough pledged delegates to win the nomination, does it matter if they're Ron Paul supporters? I mean, if most (if not all) delegates are pledged to vote for the winner of the popular vote in their state, and McCain wins on the first ballot, then what we're really talking about here is changing the party platform, right? That's great, and I'm all for it, but it sounds like some on this thread are saying Paul can still win the nomination if most of the delegates are Paul supporters, regardless of what happens in the popular vote. This can't be right, or am I mistaken?

popular vote means nothing

popular vote means nothing in the primaries! he who has the delegates gets the win!

Look back throughout

Look back throughout history...

Both Lincoln and Herbert Humphrey were considered 'long-shot', 'fringe' candidates and neither had much of a chance of receiving their party's nomination before the National Assembly. Both, however DID receive the nomination AT the convention.

It ain't over yet.

I can think of a few more..

Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George McGovern... All candidates who were vigorously opposed by their party apparatchiks.

-jcr

You are mistaken

Don't believe the delegate numbers you see, any of the state do not bind their delegates at all. And in many of the states that do, there is a very real chance they will become unbound at the state conventions.

I must say your words gave me the chills

The good kind!

i wonder if this is

i wonder if this is happeneing in a majority of the states?

I'm sure planning on it

I'm sure planning on it happening in other states.

Great job to

deaconblues911 and adam1mc. You guys were better prepared and more focused than the others. I'm hoping that the passion and preparation of this mvmnt will help Dr. Paul surprise many in MN.... Even if he doesn't win the nomination, a strong showing at the convention could vault Dr. Paul back into Congress (at the very least) with much more clout than he had before ... Not to mention he may have a few more loyal allies along side him this time around.

thanks for the great uplift

this is exactly what we are trying to do in TX.

GREAT!! The news I read

GREAT!! The news I read about Colorado and Kentucky have me more than happy. People were worried about what happened with Paul and his message. These results prove that the message is very much alive, guys!

I love hearing

about all the good news in Colorado! It's so very encouraging. Thank you all for telling us your stories!

Another Denver Post

I also am County and Congressional Delegate. Our Assembly was very similar. Our speaker plugged McCain and tried to move on but people in the audience stood up and demanded that others be allowed to speak on behalf of other candidates. We had someone speak for McCain, Paul and Alan Keyes, but, no one spoke for Huckleberry.

Our ballot process was sketchy. According to the rules, all interested persons to the Congressional Assembly must send a letter of intent by 2 weeks ago or so. I sent my letter (even though it wasn't received) but when we got to the Assembly the County organizer stated that not enough people were aware of the rules so they opened up the Delegate voting process to EVERYONE who had been elected delegate at the County Caucus. The list of possible delegates were in excess of 1200 names.

Let this be a note for everyone to BE PREPARED at the Assemblies. The Ron Paul folks met before the Assembly and distributed lists of all known Paul supporters who had been elected delegates. This is where we had the advantage. We knew our people. When they passed out the list of 1200 names everyone in the audience went around talking to folks trying to get that person to vote for them. While everyone was doing that, the RP folks were sitting in their seats marking the list with the names that appeared on our cheat sheets. Only after that was done did I go around and collect more votes for myself.

Of the known Paul delegates, all but 3 have now moved on to the next round. Slightly over 1/2 went to Delegates vs. Alternates.

Denver also proposed 12 'Ron Paul' style resolutions. Most all of them passed.

When I was standing in that room it became very clear that the GOP is quickly being taken over. The neocons in the room didn't know what hit them when resolutions denouncing the Patriot Act and FISA legislation passed.

:-)

Could you post some sample resolutions?

My county convention (in Iowa) is this Saturday and I would like to introduce some platform resolutions.

Stealth vs Shouting From the Rooftops

Stealth is fine, but each one of these gatherings should have a spokesperson for Ron Paul who is clearly identified and can speak on his behalf, so that the other delegates have a way to ask questions.

IMissLiberty

Secret sign?!?

I'm confused. Did you elect delegates to the district convention? If so were THEY Ron Paul supporters? If so how many, what percentage? If you were there in stealth mode, are you sure everyone knew who to vote for? Did YOU know who to vote for? In the training video I just watched they did NOT recommend hiding your Ron Paul affiliation. In fact, they stressed the importance of wearing RP stickers and signing in before the convention!

Almost as important as becoming a delegate is knowing what to do at the convention. There is an excellent, if somewhat lengthy, video from the national campaign. (There is a link from the precinct captain section of the main website but here is the link below.)

http://www.vimeo.com/6348...

This guy John Tate really seems to know what he's talking about and has a lot of interesting stories and practical advice to tell about the "do's and don'ts" of caucus/convention politics.
Highly recommended!

We were already state/congressional delegates

At the precinct caucuses, we nominated the state and congressional delegates for the precinct, so the voting at the assembly was only for resolutions and local county races. The 'secret sign' was just so that other Ron Paul supporters could identify you.

It depends...

I live in a Colorado county that elects it's State and Congressional delegates at the precinct level too, but that's not true of all the counties. Denver county, for example, elects all it's State and Congressional delegates at the county assembly. I heard there was a list of more than 1000 people wanting to be delegates, and everyone had only a half hour to vote on them. What a mess! Fortunately the Denver county Ron Paul supporters are pretty well organized and everyone knew who to vote for.

We did, and YES!

The precinct caucuses did most of the electing. Most of the seats were taken by RP supporters back in February. Because of the record turnout, there were not many spots that needed filling. This is where the RP supporters really cleaned house. Most people that went to the caucuses showed up for the straw poll vote (that meant nothing), but did not stay for the selection of delegates to the county, state and congressional conventions. RP supporters stayed until all the selecting was done and we cleaned house in my county. Those were the delegates that I saw at the County convention and those are also the ones who were already selected for State and Congressional conventions next month.

The voting that took place there was predominantly for those people running for local and county office. The few spots for delegates that were open were voted on as well and yes, we had a list of those who were RP supporters, so we would know who to vote for.

let's just say...

we knew exactly what we were doing. we're the REAL stealth fighters. :)

Huh,

I also went to my county convention, also in Colorado, and none of the speakers tried to plug McCain, although there was a guy there putting a lot of effort into getting everyone to wear McCain stickers. I turned him down.

Many of my other experiences were similar to yours, except we Ron Paul supporters stayed further underground and no one spoke to the assembly on his behalf, either. Our Ron Paul information table nearly ran out of literature due to strong interest, though, which was encouraging. McCain's table, next to ours, didn't see much activity, and there was no Huckabee table at all. I didn't see a single person wearing a Huckabee button or sticker all day.

Colorado was a strong Mitt Romney supporting state, and I got into several discussions with Romney supporters about how disappointed and disgusted they were when their candidate announced his suspension and told everyone to just go support McCain instead. They're deciding what to do next, and I'm hoping many of them will support Ron Paul.

As far as "infiltrating" the party goes, I don't really see it that way. Some of our speakers talked about how Colorado, once clearly a red state, has become blue, and it's because the republican party has strayed from it's traditional values: low taxes, small government and personal freedom. In other words, values Ron Paul wholeheartedly promotes, although the speakers stopped short of actually saying that. I see our movement as quietly, respectfully but firmly taking our party back from the neoconservative movement.

Don't get too excited yet: we might have many of the State and Congressional delegate spots (I have one myself!), but the National delegates have yet to be selected. There's still lots of work for us to do...

deacon.... I am a county,

deacon.... I am a county, congressional and state delegate here in jefferson county.. we are the second largest next to denver county.. our assembly is this Saturday! I will let folks know what is going on there too!without spilling the beans!
this stuff is getting exciting.. DELEGATES is where this nomination process is won.... its not the popular vote! I never realized this till just recently before the feb 5 caucus! DELEGATES FOLKS! thats where we win.. GREAT POST!

dittos

I was at the Denver County Convention, and can attest that much the same thing happened there.
If similar things are happening in other Caucus states like Nevada, North Dakota, etc...we're in better shape than the MSM would imagine.
But let's not go shouting this from the mountaintop. Let's suffice to say for now that it AIN'T OVER!
