California Policemen...What Was This??
This morning my husband was getting gas and noticed a police car and police mortorcycle pulled over to the side of the road and a policeman in the middle of the street. As my husband pulled out, the policeman motioned him to stop in the middle of the road. He then pulled out some kind of camera and took two pictures of him through the windshield with some kind of weird camera that flashed bright. He then motioned him to keep going. Said he saw him do it to several people...but not all.
He said it felt WEIRD...WEIRD...WEIRD. Does anybody know what that was or what it would be all about. This is San Diego. What in the world??

Fonta's Update
.....perhaps this will end this thread as our intent was *only* to try to find out what the policeman was doing. The lesson is that my husband *should* have asked on the spot...maybe he would have gotten an answer. The policeman probably did nothing that he was not authorized to do. He was not verbally threatening. Personally, I long for a Ron Paul world where communities are policed without *help* from Homeland Security or anything else and the policeman is once again someone little kids look up to. Unfortunately, we all have reason to question surveillance and *unusual/never before experienced" actions.
We called the numbers and they had *no explanation*...just runaround. There was no ticket issued and no failure to yield or anything else. I am looking on the net for a picture of the device so my husband can say...yes, that is it. So far I have failed. Perhaps, I should add that we were told that there had been an accident earlier at that spot. That maybe explains why the policepeople (city) were there. At this point, I believe they were testing a new toy in some way. When my husband turned into the gas station they had someone else stopped & he presumes they did the same thing to that car. The radar setting explanation therefore doesn't seem plausible. I believe this was a device that took a picture of his license and face...then aimed it at some kind of receiving device on his motorcycle that checked it against a database.
I have no problem with the comments made by anyone in law enforcement and I am glad they are on this site. Of course there are "good cops" and if it ever comes to martial law...I hope they remain "good cops" and have lines beyond which they will not venture based on how they would want their parents, grandparents and children treated. I believe there are.
For now, let's just drop it. I hardly was trying to create a panic by explaining what happened here in San Diego. As others have pointed out, facial recognition devices are being used in other parts of California. Hardly a conspiracy...but that does not mean it is right. I am against a system that is taking our liberty away...not against any individual law enforcement officer. What happen happened. I seriously doubt it was radar. But let's just drop it guys. This is not where I intended for my simple question to go.

i agree with you completely
i agree with you completely usmc
If I had a guess
Prepare to get a ticket in the mail. They were probably photographing him in the car (proof of driver with plates in frame) for something like failure to yield.
This is not pointless... this is another loss
This is not poitless, this is another Bill of Rights freedom -- under our Constitution taken away under this phoney war on Terror by the New World Order -- step by step.
The CFR One World Government are stepping up the pace to do away with our civil liberties and our Constituion.
I only learned by reading -- only you can too. Pray over it.
9-11 was an inside job. The so called "Patiot Act" takes away our freedoms.
Google David Rockefeller Bilderberg 1991, and read his comments.
Run for Congress under the Green, Lib or Constitution Party -- our only hopes.
This is pointless
You can't argue with a bunch of losers who bash cops because of an ignorant stereotype they've developed. It's like arguing with a wall...but you can blame Ron Paul's failure to do even better on the anti-military, anti-police, pro-truther, conspiracy theory obsessed, out-of-touch with reality whack jobs.
These kinds of supporters have certainly turned me off to getting more involved in Paul's campaign. I don't want anything to do with a Meet-Up knowing that I may have to sit there listening to theories about holographic planes and World Trade Center's rigged with demolitions and how Paul is going to expose all of this if elected.
And I know I don't speak solely for myself when I say that these fringe supporters probably turn off a lot of your average American's who just want government out of their life.
if cops dont want to get bashed
Then they need to start policing THEMSELVES better. For every cop who does some heinous bullshit on youtube, there are at least 20 cops who work with that guy every day, watch his bullshit the 999 other times he acted up, and say... nothing. The military does a better job of policing themselves, but not by that much.
I agree that there are some fringe whackjobs out there who arent bright enough to understand that the freedom of speech also means the freedom to shut up and not look crazy... And I agree that their insistence on bringing up stuff that they dont have rock solid evidence for harms the campaign. That doesnt necessarily make them wrong, though. Hell, I have sit in on murder proceedings where the DA has shakier evidence than some of the truther stuff. These people just havent figured out that presentation is as important as information.
Ask a cop.....
when the last time he refused an order from a superior officer.....because it violated someone's Constitutional rights.
Cops will always say "Never". An officer that is restrained by the chains of the Constitution cannot be tolerated and is fired right away.
If you have to change the constitution in order to enact alcohol prohibition, what do you have to do to enact drug prohibition?
Of course you have to amend the Constitution!
Or you can just hire PIGS willing to violate persons natural rights given to them by their creator.
With all due respect
My father was a USMC WWII Vet. He knew all about FDR knowing before hand of Peral Harbor. Was he a nut? I have known scores of former Intell folks who said JFK was killed by more than Lee Harvey Oswald.
9-11 was an inside job -- from my research. You, with all due respect, are the very persons - very sincere, and very patriotic -- who we have to reach - to reconsider what you believe, and study more for yourself to come around and see the truth of the New World Order, and the One World Government.
I respect where you are at -- I pray, that our side, of those defending the Constitution, can find a way to help you fo0lks over to the side of the truth.
The only way is for you to read more, and to study more.
If, we are right -- and 9-11 was an inside job, than what we are saying about a New World Order that will take away our Constitution -- will follow. That being the debate -- you should study with all the ferver of your heart to make sure we are not right.
If you go the web -- there are lists of former CIA, NSA, FBI, Mil Intel, who all say it was an inside job. Many state that they cannot look the other way while their Constitution hangs by a thread.
I only wish you were right.
How'd you turn the
How'd you turn the cop-bashing going on here into all this other crap. If you read these posts carefully, you would realize it's basically about bashing the cop that posted a bunch of arrogant sh*t here, who acted like she knew something she had no idea about. I assume you or a close relative must be a cop for you to have taken all this so personally. Settle down, take a deep breath and relax. It's all okay.
*sigh*
You're sadly misinformed if that's what you think RP meetups are like. I've met a bunch of great, hardworking, intelligent, freedom loving people in my group. Your loss.
Fonta -
Please keep us posted on any new info you might get - I am interested to know what you find out about this!
Why?
Based on your earlier posts you're unwilling to accept that it is anything but responsible police enforcement. There are plenty of other cases out there that will show you the corruption in "our" law enforcement. Why don't you care to look into these?
Wrong.
I suggest you go back and read some of my original posts, then. I clearly state that I am well aware of the fact that there are irresponsible or "bad" members of law enforcement. Believe it or not, I have read about many instances of corruption in law enforcement (I live near Detroit, for crying out loud - corruption is RAMPANT throughout all levels of the city).
BTW, the reason I want to hear more about this story is because I'm interested to see how it turns out. I'm interested to see that the police line is in this whole story. Is it legit? Is it not? Will they attempt to deny/lie about it? I'm sorry I'm not in such a rush to judgement.
You people are why Ron Paul Lost
I am a huge Ron Paul supporter...and I think the people on this thread are exactly why Ron paul was not taken seriously......you people must be the "truthers" as well...Do you really think the San diego police dept was taking facial recognition photos THRU A WiNDSHiELD!!! Get a grip on yourselves. I hope to god none of you need a cop someday..
Another Cop Losing His Cool - Amazing!
I suppose you will now go beat your wife (uh, I mean your wife will trip and give herself two black eyes). Either way, I'm sure your union will stick up for you just like they did for the Minnesota cop last week.
I am a Police officer in Massachusetts
Believe me there is a lot of guys and gals that have no business being a police officer.and I'm on a force of about 300. You ever been to a football game with a bus load of cops? A total disaster! There is an event in Washington DC every year that honors fallen Police officers the second week in May. Needless to say stay away from the pubs in DC if you dont want to get bitch slapped, lol. All in all most of us are ok, but just like every profession there are a few that give the rest a bad name. You know who you are.
Good Post - Good to know
Good Post - Good to know there's a few good ones out there that won't stick up for any cop just because they are a cop.
WTF?
Somebody's been dealing in stereotypes a bit much .....
OMG - I deserve the Death Penalty
I called her a S.O.B. earlier but she didn't say anything then.
Seriously. And your point
Seriously. And your point is ........
The "S." in S.O.B. stands
The "S." in S.O.B. stands for "Son"
Actually , we'll just make sure no one is watching...
and then we'll beat you with billyclubs, and flashlights.
And if that ain't enough, we'll stick a broomstick up your arse.
Then we'll say you "fell".
Sorry dude.
Point Taken
.
Please ...
keep your fantasies to yourself ... "dude"
Just to clarify..I am a
Just to clarify..I am a female Sgt....I'm sorry, whos losing their cool here??
If you're not a Truther...
You must be a Liar
Truthers?
>>you people must be the "truthers" as well.
So whats wrong with the truth?
Calm down already
You have no idea what the SOP is for SoCal. And you have no idea what they were doing. The fact is that cops break the law every day. Its not impossible, or even unlikely that some cop here was abusing his power in some way. It is a little less likely that he was taking the guy's photo, but not impossible.
You say that we are the reason RP lost, but your blue wall of bullshit is a huge reason why we are in the fix we are in in the first place.
The "blue wall of bull
The "blue wall of bull sh$%"???..But I am a cop and I think Ron Paul is the second coming of Christ(joking)....How can that be?? We must have more in common than not..-dont you think?
I didnt say we dont.
What I take exception to is you defending the cop as a kneejerk reaction. This is the 'blue line of bs' Im talking about. I know there are alot of good cops out there trying to do their best. I also know that there are cops out there who stretch the law, straight out break it, abuse their authority, and even engage in directly criminal behavior on and off the job.
What allows these bad cops to exist is the good cops assuming that everything another cop does is solid, or defending them even when they know they were out of line. The fact that it is a tough job is not an excuse. We entrust your colleagues with our safety, and you need to be held to a higher standard of behavior, not a lower one.
I agree with you. And I
I agree with you. And I didnt defend the cop. Read my other posts.
The only thing a cop ever did for me or my family...
was to give us speeding tickets. And the good cops were the ones that gave you a warning. Any time over the last 40 years that we had property stolen or vandalized, the cops were too busy to come and investigate. If I ever need a cop, I'll have to go to dunkin donuts and throw all the donuts in the dumpster so they'd pay attention.
They may not have been taking facial recognition photos, but they were very rude to even do something like that without notifying the driver about what was going on. That's the point here.
Jackied15...NO
...as I stated and my husband posted (and he never posts) we do not know what the "unit" was or what the policeman was doing. That is why I posted thinking someone might have had a similar experience. Neither of us said anything derogatory about policemen.
The point is that what happened...no matter what the unit or purpose...you just don't expect a policeman to stop you coming out of a gas station onto a main road and aim some thing at you for no reason.
Can you take facial recognition pictures through a windshield? I don't know. Do you aim some huge radar unit at a car you stopped? I don't know. Perhaps some of the other posts on this thread triggered you; however, we actually thought you might know the answer being a policeman. Thought you might want to just answer a valid question and be helpful. Apparently not. Now I agree with the poster who said you were arrogant...you are. We WILL find out what the thing was and we will update people on this thread because the police department still works for the people. At least for now. At least I think they do.
fonta
Please read my commment below..I did not mean to degrade you or your husband and I will try to help all of you to understand things from a cops perspective..if you like
If I had to guess ...
I think his response was directed to others and not at your original question.
jenmi
it was..thanks
jenmi
it was..thanks
Im not really suprised
I live near San Diego, they have stop light cameras on every friggin corner. I think I got caught in one today, some douche slowed down in the middle of the intersection when the light turned yellow... and of course Im caught behind them.
In SD they handcuff people just to talk to them, there are constantly police helicopters overhead, etc... In Los Angeles, they have been testing a facial recognition program, maybe they are extending it to SD.
Just start wearing a rubber
Just start wearing a rubber mask when you drive, as long as your vision is not impaired, there isn't a thing they can do.
Malum,Thanks
.....I bet you are right. We just found this article on the facial recognition units. For anyone interested, this article clearly shows that their are many questioning whether or not this is an invasion of privacy. I believe they were just testing their new toys.
http://epic.org/privacy/s...
My husband called the police department and was told a number to call tomorrow that is the motorcycle unit cops number or something. This is irritating at best...and scary at worst. Obviously, this was done with no real cause. I'll update tomorrow when he tries to find out something.
And for those who have questioned this thread....Yes, it does have to do with everything Ron Paul is for...and against. It's about freedom and liberty...not being harrassed or picked out randomly for harrasment.
The us against them mentality
The eltist have the cops trained to be suspious of anyone. The Us vs Them mentality.
Good cops are the ones who still have the commonsense the good Lord gave them to evaluate situations without going off the deep end.
You'll know the bad ones from the first few seconds of meeting them.
They Want Your DNA and Your Papers
This post reminded me of this story I read a while back about cops setting up road blocks and 'requesting' saliva samples.
http://worldnetdaily.com/...
I bet the Sargent would claim this story is bogus too.
www.TuNeCedeMalis.com
Sergeant here...
I read the "world net daily" article ..i guess you didnt...The cops did not set that up...it was a private organization conducting a non-mandatory survey...the deputies were not part of that..I dont think the whole idea of the surveyors was a good one and if i were stopped by these people i would tell them to go to hell.
i
You're partially right ...
Truth be told, the Sheriff's Dept. WAS responsible for stopping the motorists for this "survey".
i see
I agree with you..i re read the article-I can see why the public would not feel free to leave. The deputies should have been there to oversee only. But posting that the deputies set up a road block was irresponsible and untrue..it was the surveyors who collected it for a private entity..Bad idea for the department though..so i see your point.
No Conflict Between Liberty and Security
Police are a necessary function of government.
Police at the local level works best.
[T]he choice between a terrorized free country and a less-terrorized police state is a false alternative. There is at root no conflict between the values of liberty and security.
Liberty and security are not opposing goals; to the contrary, the second is a means to the first. A proper government exists to protect the freedom of its citizens, by securing their individual rights. The security relevant in this context is the security from the only thing that can violate our rights: the threat of (initiated) force. A proper government uses its police powers--both domestic and military--to prosecute those who attack its citizens' liberty, whether the attackers are criminals at home or hostile states abroad.
...A government that arbitrarily uses its police powers is destroying the very value it is supposed to be securing--as every police state in history has shown.

Never read Rand, and never will...
...it avoids arguments. :)
But just after 9/11 I was on the radio making that same point: Our Liberty *IS* Our Security!
Someone ought to bumpersticker that one!
That is a loss for you
Ayn Rand articulates the philosophy behind this movement.

People...please..I am a police officer
Good evening, I read your post above about the officer taking your husbands picture through the windshield. Umm..that is not allowed and I would be shocked if it really happened that way. If it did why did your husband not get the agency name or call the juristiction that the gas station was in..In my opinion the whole incident sounds preposterous..I am a police sgt for a large department in the northeast and officers dont stand in the middle of the street taking pictures of vehicles for no reason...Doesnt happen..please save the conspiracy theories as well...The poster John2k was 100% on the money when he gave everyone tips how to deal with a motor vehicle stop by the police. To the poster who said that they thought it was ridiculous for the police to think a "normal" person reaching for somethng in the back seat should be considered innocent till proven guilty.....many cops have died by thinking that way when that "normal" looking person reached for a weapon that ended their lives....walk a day in my shoes pal.....
"Cops for Ron Paul"
