The villians, the victims, the hero. Some people simply give up. Some people need a reason to give up. In this authors story, the cause of giving-up is external. An evil group of people who threaten the authors very existence(on the DP anyhow). The author is also representing all veterans, because every hero needs someone to save. I spent four years in the suck and do not need saving from anyone or anything. Bring it on. I missed the threads mentioned in the authors forum topic, so if anyone cares to debate them again, I'll be glad to do so. Anyhow, LTBjorgaard.....just give up because that's what you want to do. Not because someone is making you give up. Once 2008 rolled around, my activity at the DP dropped dramatically, simply because I was busy trying to get RP the nomination. I am still trying to get RP the nomination as my states primary has yet to be held. I read a post in this thread explaining how the rEVOLution was never just about the 2008 presidential election. The author of that post is correct. The presidential election is the rally cry so to speak. The tools the rEVOLution needs are things such as knowing Roberts Rules of Order, how to form a sentence, and the knowledge that your brain will not melt if you use it longer than ten minutes. I'll wager that 80% or more of the people who frequent the DP do not know what their precinct number is. That's why RP hasn't done as well as THEY expected. Look in the mirror LTBjorgaard if you want someone to blame. It's a great possibility that many people at the DP have been quitting their entire lives....why CHANGE now?

The problem is how they are used and that the people that decide to go to war don´t actually go fight themselves, but send others to die instead.

I wonder how many wars would break out if the ones voting for it had to go fight in them. It would be the moral thing.

My experience here at Daily Paul has been similar to yours, the only real difference being the particular issues (I generally avoid participating in military-related threads because I've found that they seem to attract some very emotional and sometimes extremely opinionated people). I'm going to assume that you and I are here at DP to learn and share. Since this is an open forum (for the most part), there are going to be people that create distraction and try to push our buttons, regardless of the topic. My personal challenge is to stick it out here at DP until I master the art of learning and sharing without being frustrated and upset by the people intent on creating distraction from the issues. I'm determined to get better at ignoring those people and giving them no more consideration than I would the noise of traffic out on the street. I have found this challenge to be rewarding, so far. I've been at it now for almost 24 hours.

But when I came back this morning to see that your thread was not only still active but that you had ADDED to it was really kind of .... well, almost disingenous, IMO. I'm a former Army SGT. I was in during our first desert vacation. I've trained police officers in DT, etc. I'm familiar with both communities. What is all this bitching by vets here? I'll bet more then half are NOT former military. Civilians have been great during this conflict. That is obvious. However, they are allowed to have negative feelings toward an illegal war that slaps down the US Constitution. You know, the thing we swore to protect. This forum has had some "anti" police/military threads. I addressed the poster and moved on. I did not make some silly show out of my "hurt" feelings and try to submarine the entire forum. That is pathetic. Grow up. This Revolution needs mature heroes.

Just a comment, I support our military personnel because I believe in liberty. Our soldiers were not drafted, beaten, or coerced into service. They, of their own free will, decided that they would defend our country and our constitution by killing others and putting themselves into danger with the possibility of themselves being harmed or giving the ultimate sacrifice. They are a blessing (and a necessary force for any country) because not all are willing to step up to such a burden of their own free will.

Now what strikes me as odd is the fact that all the people supporting ron paul also are in effect supporting liberty. Yet for some reason they believe that other people are making 'bad choices' for being in the military. It's just a hard fact of life that we as a country need a military. And another hard fact of life is that military personnel's duty is to kill. The last hard fact of life is that a military can only be run by people accepting orders from others following a chain of command.

It is not the military personnel's fault for the death of children, women and other non-combatants, even if they are the one pulling the trigger on such people. (This is not a 'nazi' type issue where 'I was just following orders' type of thing, If you don't see the difference... may god have mercy on your dimwitted soul) The ultimate fault and blame lies directly at the point of command, our very own commander in chief. And who might that be? All the venom and hatred spewed at the fine men and women, that serve of their own free will, is misdirected.

Blame those that took us to war.(Bush) Blame those that keep us in war (the Senate and House). Blame those that threw out the constitution (Damn near every government official). Because if it was not for their actions, all of the horrible things that have happened would have never taken place.

Lastly... blame Bush and his cronies and hold those bastards accountable till the day they die and even further till your children's children's children know their names and their deeds in horrifying detail. Let us not forget (how we got here).

Don't blame the American people for which a majority oppose the war. Don't blame the military for most of them just want to come home in one piece.

As a true, non-main-stream, non-religious, Bible believing Christian, I get all kinds of flak from disrespectful heathens that are that way because theyt don't even respect God. Those who do not respect God are more likely to be disrespectful of others, after all, its "survival of the fittest," right?

Im glad that you support Ron Paul. What I find unfortunate is the number of Ron Paul supporters, conservative and liberal alike, who fail to understand how they have blood on their hands (figuratively or literally) in some very un-Paul way. And you figure we're so desperate for votes, that we'll buy into any fantasy of your own innocence that you present to us, playing on our fear of dissuading you and your kind from supporting our man.

Well, some of us are that desperate. They'd welcome Ghengis Khan, if GK would bring in the Mongol demographic.

Soldiers, like cops, are directly and personally responsible for any crimes they commit with their own hands. I dont care what you tell each other, what you tell yourselves, or what your bosses tell you.

The KKK has a reputation for lynching blacks. The Army of God has a reputation for bombing abortion clinics. The Italian Mafia has a reputation for icing deadbeats. These aren't unjust sweeping generalizations that are unfair to individual members of these organizations.

US soldiers commit moral crimes. Murder, larceny, rape, theft, torture. Killing innocent muslim patriots defending their own country, so you can get a college grant. Real American there.

Like the Mafia, you cant really be a member otherwise.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin it for all of us. I support our troops and Dr. Paul. I agree some people get a little too crazy with some of this stuff. That's usually when I have to turn the computer off and walk away for a few. Remember for ever few who are very vocal there are many more who don't subscribe to that line of thought and just aren't as vocal. Also I'm not above thinking a few bad apples have infected dailypaul just to drive the good ones out. Really, there IS good and bad in every group. Don't let them drive you out. : )

Good or bad. We don't have to have spent any time in Iraq or even the military to speak out good or bad about the military.

Afterall, this is still America, right? Or is this now the same crap as with the Bush administration.. if you have something bad to say about us... you're un-American.

I've got no problem with the military in general, but I have friends in the military who are not the same anymore. Friends that now think it's perfectly fine to use martial law here in the USA. They think it's fine for the govt to be spying on us, violating our rights. They've even told me they are perfectly willing to go door to door to take guns, ready to kill if need be.

Now I'm not dumb enough to think that the entire military shares those views. But I'm also not dumb enough to think that some haven't been brainwashed into believing that stuff.

For all you in the military, I've got this to say to you. I respect the fact that you signed up to protect this country... if we ever are truly under attack. And I don't mean this in a disrespectful way at all. I have had people in the military tell me this first, before I even thought of having this view on it. Some military members tell us that they are fighting for our freedoms.. that without them, we'd have no rights... like we need to bow down and kiss their feet and thank them. A good friend of mine in the Army first told me, we're not defending your rights at all. We're walking around Iraq waiting to get shot.. and for what? Not defending your freedoms, that's for sure. If they were, our freedoms wouldn't be being trampled for "security" here at home.

I feel sorry that you have all been placed in this situation. We don't belong in Iraq. I wish you were really being used to defend our freedoms, defend our country. I only hope you all return safe and are able to continue on with your lives.

Please don't take this and think that I'm against the military. I'm not, not one bit. I just worry about the leadership, and how they are using military. I worry that there are enough who would follow illegal orders, using arms against American citizens. So as long as you remember your oath, and remember that your countrymen are on your side... the side of defending freedom, and defending our country from ALL enemies, foreign and domestic... then we've got no problem.

Military and Police are my friend, so long as you remember your oath to your country and remember that we live in a free country, not a police state dictatorship. We have rights, and we want them respected. So those who took an oath to defend those rights, we just want them to know that we need your help in defending them. Not violating them.

I think it's an easy thing to do, clump the group together as a whole.

I also think it's easier to just ignore the things I don't agree with. I am open to hearing and questioning any idea, but if I think it's crap, or just disagree... then I move on.

i'm an army veteran of OIF and i'm sick of the attacks on the military posted on Daily Paul. i wondered while i was in Iraq how long the hooneymoon would last. how long you guys would all be patting us on the back and saying thank you. well i guess it was about 4 1/2 to 5 years. now we're babykillers just like you called the guys in Nam.

you spend a year over there doing what we did. and then maybe i'll listen to your criticism of us, but until that day you haven't earned the right to talk about the military good or bad.

I am a former Marine.
On my college campus, I'm surrounded by idiots. Some of them have a general hatred for the military in general.
I've done my best on campus to avoid those who won't listen, and to educate those who do.
I understand how you feel about the negative military comments on this, and on other websites.
I hope that you do not look at the entire DP community as military hating fools. I hope that the experiences you've had and the hope Ron Paul has given you you'll be able to share to others wherever you go.
I for one will keep posting on DP, and try to enlighten those willing to listen.
These hateful posters sleep sound in their beds only because of the rough men willing to do violence on their behalf.
Until they serve, they will never truly understand what it takes.

I think when it comes down to it we all need to stick together. I don't care what you like, what you dislike. I don't care who slanders who. In the end I hope we can all have eachother's backs if the shit hits the fan. Even if you leave dailypaul.com, please do not leave the revolution entirely. Many different people are taking part in the revolution and we are not all the same, but in this cause we all understand and believe.

About the soldier and the puppy recently, I just look at that as one individual (soldier or not) who did a bad thing. We are all human and nobody is perfect. To me this does not reflect poorly on other soldiers or the military but only those who perpetrated the crime.

The military will get a bad rap if they know who did this and do not take appropriate action. But even then it does not reflect on other soldiers but only the leadership that did not sort out this crime.

Dr. Paul stirs a lot of passions in people. He draws huge numbers of the youth -- lots of passion there for sure.

Part of our revolution is personal -- not only recognizing the creative energies that are unleashed with the human desire for freedom [it must be a drive within our DNA :) ], but learning what it means to acknowledge EVERYBODY has it by birthright and that its reverence in one another is a two-way street -- and what that implies in regard to interpersonal behaviors -- and in particular for you.

It's not an easy lesson... and everyone spends most of life developing insight and balance. I suspect that the world philosophers have wrestled with freedom and will more than any other of humanity's gifts.

Stay centered and solve the equation to the best of your ability, ignoring the choices made by others that you would not make for yourself. Choose your behavior, your words, your actions. Likewise, they are responsible for theirs. I know, sometimes it is not easy here. But, liberty and freedom stoke passion... and the best individuals themselves are refined like metal tested by fire. Some must be further tested to find the strength of their metal.
