I would expect gasoline to reach $4.00 by the end of the month, and by mid summer to be around 5-6 dollars. This of course may also occur with perhaps a government idea to rationing in some areas.
That it will rise further we don't have to doubt, they will find another reason to justify to 'sell' further increases.
Perhaps this makes you feel a little better:
In Australia, the price of petrol for (in my neck of the woods) :
- a USA gallon of unleaded petrol AU $5.22 = US$4.89
I calculated this on the 3rd of March, and is already out of date with increase of up to 10cents per litre in bigger cities.
Predictions are that we will have petrol at AU$ 4 per litre within a decade(currently ranging from anywhere between 1.20 to 1.70 per litre)
The average yearly income in the US and Australia is almost identical so conversion here is misleading. We don't pay the equivalent of US$4.89, we pay the equivalent of US$5.22 a gallon.
I might see it to simple but USA gallon is 3.7854, Imperial Gallon 4.54609
hence me arriving at those prices.
In Australia, the price of petrol for (in my neck of the woods) :
- a USA gallon of unleaded petrol AU $5.22 = US$4.89
- Imperial gallon of unleaded petrol USA$6.27 = US$5.87
Prices vary daily and per region with as much as 10 cents per litre cheaper in the bigger cities, and up to 20 cents per litre dearer in further remote areas.
We still do have the currency differences and that is regardless of similar average wages.
If the Dems get in and make good on their threat to opt out of, or modify NAFTA, our northern neighbors will cease treating us as preferred trading partners having the Chinese as eager buyers.
Analysts say that could cause a rise in price to the $10 level.
I confess this doesn't make a lot of sense to me but the Canadians do supply some 10% of our consumption.
The huge increase might come from increased prices (in our decaying dollars) as well as the added transportation costs.
I'm not crazy about NAFTA either, it wasn't ever a 'free trade' treaty, but one regulated and placing us in a less-than-fair position and allowing our 'partners' greater latitude in banking and transportation than we were allowed.
It ain't 'free trade!'
Not being dependent on vehicles much anymore (retired) the decay of our currency scares me much more; new low against the Euro (and I think the Yen too) today: $1.53 : 1 Euro
When it hits $1.64, we will have lost 1/2 of our value against the Euro.
This puts us in a better position for exports, but what the hell do we have left to trade?
The panic will come from the station owners knowing that if there is a shortage (transportation) or conservation (carpooling) kicks in, their immediate profits will throw them for a curve. All panic will come from the uneducated.
Highway 96, Orleans County, California - $3.98 for regular as of 10:00am today.
This is only the highest reported price. I've been told it's near $4.50 in other parts of CA.
showed the first two stations to raise gas to over $4.00 per gal. (both in California). They advised to get your car pool lined up as $4.00 gas will by here nationwide by Memorial Day.
a friend told me that the today show had a story about how gold is a good investment, I've heard of a few mainstream pro-gold stories now, it is really going to take off in the coming weeks
Today I got the cheapest gas and it was about $3.65. San Diego is one of the priciest places for gas, even worse than LA for some reason. It will easily be $4 in CA during the summer.
But I bought gas today for $2.85 at BJ's whole sale club .....everyone else is at $2.95........gas peaked a week ago at $3.17 and now is slowly dropping
$8 in Sweden.
I'm from sweden. We pay $8 a gallon. That's what happens when you let socialists into government.
It is
$3.40 to $3.80 here in Oregon already. I agree with another person here...$4 a gallon will seem cheap compared to whats coming.
$4.00 ain't nothing to complain about, just wait!

Remember those $600 a person rebate checks comming?
This is what they want to happen. They are going to force you to spend that check on gas. Helping big oil and world elite get richer.
Embezzlement is happening right there under your eyes folks!
Its $3.40 here right now.
Its $3.40 here right now. Give or take of course. And with a $5 jump in oil today, I am sure it will only go up.
The prediction
by a "medium" relative says by 4th of July. That's in Virginia.
How long will be anyone's guess
but here is a link to prices in all states

Techinically you are correct
but I'd like to tweak your post a bit.
