Texas precinct convention delegates, sound off!

I'm a delegate to the county convention at the end of the month!

I just returned from my precinct convention. Five republicans showed up. We had one delegate and one alternate to select. I was chosen as the delegate to the county convention to be held on 29 March. I'm getting similar reports from other RP supporters here in the ranch-land boonies of central Texas. What are other Texas RP supporters seeing tonight?

Nobody at our precinct convention was willing to support McCain...no matter what. What happened at your precinct convention tonight?

Our precinct held their first ever Republican primary convention

I just spoke with our county vice-chair. She informed me that my little town hasn't held a Republican primary convention in recent memory. After speaking with the county chair, I am encouraged that I might be on the slate of delegates sent to state simply due to my enthusiasm. I got the same sort of response from two of the five attendees at our precinct convention - enthusiasm will win people over, as long as it is genuine.

Smith County (east Texas)

There were 8 people at my precinct convention. 4 of us were Ron Paul Supporters. One supported Huck, and the other 3 didn't say. Our precinct chair had been to a convention before and had a general idea of what to do.

We all signed up to be delegates. We were allowed 25 delegates and 25 alternates. The chairman said we could nominate delegates who were not present as long as they voted Republican in the precinct, so we signed up a total of 12 delegates, 7 of whom I know were Ron Paul supporters. He also said we could nominate people who were not at the county convention to go to state/congressional district conventions.

We also passed 11 resolutions based on Ron Paul's platform. Most passed unanimously, with the only real contest being the anti-war resolution. Fortunately, one of the non Ron Paul supporters left before we started voting on resolutions, so we didn't have any problems.

Overall, everyone was nice and agreed with us on most things. I had a wonderful experience and can't wait for the county convention.

If McCain is so weak with

If McCain is so weak with the delegate support, then why does he have all of the delegates? Explain. There will be no under the radar takeover of the convention. It's fun to imagine it will happen, but as a year of evidence has shown, we are and will remain in the minority. I'm not kiddin'.

Texas precinct 2323 and 2324 three delegates each

The Senatorial District 2 convention is on March 29th. I election judged at the Lakeside Activity Center for the Republican Primary in precincts 2323 and 2324. We had 269 republican voters. There were approximately 600 democrat voters. The Republican precinct convention drew 6 people. The Democrats had over 300 rowdy, loud, rude, Obama supporters. I was only barely able to close out the voting equipment due to the disruption of the Democrats celebrating their new messiah.

Read Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A Thousand Faces"

very similar situation here

low rep turnout. roudy rude democrat supporters. only we did not allow any prect meeting until we closed down polls completely were packed up and gone. i actually called the police and gave them a headsup on the potential of riotous activity. i was so glad to leave that place.

Riotous Activity Warming Up, Wait Until Our Money Is Worthless

Hate to mention this but very soon our money will become worthless and then I think we will all see Riotous Activity. I believe that they were probably just warming up, without realizing it.

Trumpet sounding!

We had 8 total show up for my precinct's convention on the Rep. side. Tons of Democrats in another area of the building. We Rep's huddled under the one light in a dark hallway. 7 of us were Ron Paul supporters, the other Huckabee. No McCain person! Mailed the materials in today Certified Mail, with a required signature and an online tracking number so I can print it out when it says "Delivered". So that neocon chairman in my county can't say he didn't get it. Also made copies for myself and for my area's official Ron Paul campaign HQ. Bases covered.

I'm Starting to Worry

That all the stealth delegates are reporting on the same meeting. Let's hope they're actually reporting different ones. ("Nobody said who they were supporting but I'm pretty sure...etc.")

I Love You Texas!

yes yes I do....thank you so very much for all of this!

**the soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears**

East Texas

My wife and I participated quietly. I became the permanent precinct chair and a delegate while she was elected the first alternate. There were only seven people attending. We were allowed four delegates. Nobody mentioned candidates and three NO TTC resolutions were passed. I really believe some of the others support Ron Paul based on the issues they said were important. This is going to be fun as we're coming in under the radar!

Precinct 0645 - West Houston

17 people showed up for the precinct convention.

10 people nominated themselves as delgates, and we were allowed 17 based on rules.

5 of us (including me!) were definitely RPers, one was a Huckabee supporter (poor gal), 3 others were non specific as to whom they were for, and the last was a McCain supporter.

Honestly, I was embarrased at how unorganized the precinct was; not the RP supporters, but the volunteers who manned the precinct. They misplaced a seal for the ballots, and tried to explain that this was a minor problem. I complained that I thought it was a major problem. The precinct chairwoman followed no rules of order.

I'd bet they hadn't seen that many people at a precinct convention in decades. Very few of the people who showed up had ever participated at this level.

I was so incredibly excited to get the chance to vote for Ron Paul, and quite nervous about standing up to be a delegate.

This march goes on!

all the best!

j

John Bernard

Two more here!

of the 4 delegates in my area - we've got 50%. (maybe more b/c i think the other was a huck supporter)

Resolutions
- secure borders
- Abolish IRS
- Balance federal budget w/o new taxes

I'll see you all at the convention.

Why We're Winning

First, of course, is the candidate and the message. Freedom brings us together.

Second, we had the organization. The phenomenal Meet-up groups essentially created a shadow-GOP united behind one candidate. McCain is having to rely on the old GOP because he never caught fire.

Be sure to keep recruiting support. I hope all the delegates are coordinating so that they don't get either discouraged or cocky. Keep in mind that no one is reporting, here, on precincts where no RP supporters showed up.

PRECINCT 4094 - FORT WORTH, TX

Due to so many people coming out of the woodwork a few years ago to vote for Tony Sanchez for Texas Governor, the delegate count that Precinct 4094 could send on to county convention dropped from 10 to 5 like that! [snapping of fingers]

So my wife and I - with school and work and you know the rest - had little hope that we could work a Paul Supporter in there for the battle.

We were dead wrong.

4 of 5 delegates from 4094 will be supporting Dr. Ron Paul.
My wife and I, who honeymooned for Paul in NH before the Jan primary, are two of them.
That's 80% of our precinct!

Also......in another land far, far away.......in one precinct over......
my friend Marcus has never voted nor would he - even after I got to lauding it over his head. But a month or so ago he let me stick two 2x4 Paul signs in his front yard (Sadly they were stolen while I was away in Austin this past weekend) and I believe that this worked some magic on his ass.

That's right peeps.....

Marcus not only went and voted, but quickly gathered together a few folks from a la peanut butter hood and got 2 of the 4 sugary delegate seats in his precinct for Paul!!!! This is a PERFECT example of ONE PERSON MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

We have confirmed reports of this happening all over North Texas.
In one north Fort Worth precinct, only one person showed up for the convention last night.
That was my main man - Scott. He is now sitting comfortably in TWO delegate chairs all by his lonesome. He passed 15 resolutions. Wonder what they could be???

This is all truth, so says cinco.
And so it also must be made clear that the high school auditorium next to where our convention was held last night was PACKED TO THE GILLS full of Dems. many were very rude and it made me very, very sad for all involved. There were at least 300 people in there. All wishing for a hand out with their names on it.

gotta love it!!!!

gotta love it!!!!

Dallas County, Precinct 1105

In a room of only 10+ GOP attendees with 11 delegates up for grabs, only 4-5 of us even WANTED to serve as delegates!

But (must be said) compare that to the 150-200 Dems in the room for their candidate.

The REAL story here is that latter portion...!

Precinct 3422 North Keller/South Roanoke

Out of our 23 Delegates 23 were filled. Of those 17 were Ron Paul supporters or neighbors (Just to fill all slots). I know probably 2 more of the people who signed up were Ron Paul supporters also. So 19 out of 23 not bad. We also filled 2 alternates with Ron Paul supporters.

We passed UNANIMOUSLY the following which I also stole from someone on this list:

1) Resolution on the FED
2) Resolution on Border Security
3) Resolution on Trans Texas Corridor

Thank you Texas

This makes me feel great.

Travis County Precinct 460 (S. Austin)

Ron Paul won the presidential vote w/ 38% vs. McCain at 36% the remainder going to huckabee and uncommitted.

Delegate wise we had 7 spots and all 7 are Paul supporters. We were the only ones to show up to our meeting so we ran the whole show. We also passed anti-toll road resolutions, anti REAL ID act & NAIS resolutions and Anti electronic voting resolutions which now must be considered at our Senatorial District convention on March 29th. I was running for Rep. Precinct Chairman and lost by 2 votes, but the guy who won is a Paul Republican too so no loss.

It was pretty great. Other reports I've heard so far are that we've taken a ton of the delegates here in Travis County and won a bunch of Precinct Chair positions. At least here in Travis County there will be changes in the Republican party in the not too distant future.

NAIS IS A HUGE ISSUE! great

What happens at the

county convention on March 29th? How is that different then yesterday?

The next step

in our process is County/District Convention.

Only delegates from the precincts can vote at County/District. This is where resolutions are reviewed/passed at the county level to send up to state level. This is also where delegates are elected to send to the state convention.

Only Precinct Delegates are allowed to vote at the County/District so that's why it's important to become a delegate. Here's the kind of interesting thing: If a precinct is alloted 10 delegates to County/District; then only 5 show up to County/District; then when each of those 5 people vote their vote counts a 2 votes.

Whomever shows up from a Precinct represents that precinct....So if only 1 delegate from a precinct arrives at county/district....Then that 1 person votes all of the votes from their precinct. While many have good intentions of showing up at the next level, many don't. That's why it's so important for our Texas people that are Precinct Delegates to make whatever arrangements are necessary so they can attend County/District.

From there, it goes to the State Convention which should be pretty much like everyone else's.

At the next level

we pick delegates to the State Convention who in turn pick delegates for the National Convention. In addition there are resolutions and platform issues that can be voted on and changed at each level to be addressed ultimately at the State convention.

I'ma delegate too.

I'll be a delegate at the galveston, TX county meeting. Six of us showed up with the chair not being able to attend because she'll be on vacation. She looked neoconned anyways. I don't know who the other four are supporting but three were from the same family. There is not much competition to be a republican delegate, atleast at the county level. Be sure in the next few states to go to the precient meeting ya'll can become delegates. Lets steal this election as the neocons stole our government. Fighting!!

Thanks, Texans!

I forgive you for the Bushes now. ;)

hey, don't blame texas

for the yankee carpetbaggers afflicting us. Thank god there is a Washington D.C. so we can get them out of the state for a few years at a time.

Time to dig into the trenches!

You are all delegates or finding out how to become one, right?! Put signs up, educate your neighbor, smile, have fun and go to St. Paul.

Feeling better this morning - again we salute you Texans

My neighbors are pissed that Karl Rove & Tom Delay are Faux News talking heads - they are still voting for Ron Paul on April 22nd - I am so proud of Texas - we haven't given up & neither should you. Please keep this rolling -

Delegate Precinct 137

I couldn't log in last night, was so excited posted it over at ronpaulforums

It was just 2 of us, me and a McCain guy. He somehow was already chair and I became delegate. We get 2 delegates, he said he'd be the other one but he won't be going to the County convention... so it's just me.

Somehow I think I also became the Secretary.

The thing that's wild... I proposed 15 Resolutions. All of them passed... the other guy signed them off without even really reading them and sealed them all official in front of me to be sent to the next stage. That was cool, cause right on top, the 1st one I had was:

Resolution expressing no confidence in John McCain

McCain did have the popular vote no doubt in this precinct, but I'm going to be the only delegate to the county convention.

Good times! Keep up the good work us all!!! Can't wait to see what the next stage brings.

Awesome, I can't wait to see

Awesome, I can't wait to see the vote and discussion that takes place when that issue comes up at county on March 29th. We also had a no confidence resolution in our process that passed without opposition.

Moral: Good things can come to those who wait

Went to RepublicanHQ on first Monday of 2008 in Jan. Found out my precinct chairperson was quiting due to health and age. They asked me if I want to be the temporary precinct chair. Said, "well, ok." Got to the polls and voted around noon, asked about the packet, they found it and gave it to me to study for the convention after voting finished. Read it, went back. Large Dem turnout caused voting to continue a half-hour longer. Once voting closed, the dems were having a huge caucus fight that required multiple police to escort people away, plus the actual voter lists were delayed almost 2 hours. We waited, and waited, and ... Of the 6 repubs who showed up, 1 Duncan Hunter supporter left, 1 other chose to attend but not be a delegate because he wouldn't be available on the 29th. So, of the 4 remaining, all Ron Paul supporters, we are going to represent the precincts 13 delegate slots.
Moral: Good things can come to those who wait.

i was elected permanent precinct chair tonight..

ron paul support is fierce in texas.

remember, in 1960 Hubert Humphrey won the democratic nomination AT THE CONVENTION and he DID NOT WIN A SINGLE PRIMARY!!!!

ron paul is still in this to win.

we passed a resolution for a new independant investigation into 9/11.

Why not put other stuff on

Why not put other stuff on the platform that the vast majority of Americans could go along with like border security, lower taxes, reduced federal budget, and a host of other issues? THEN deal with 9/11 conspiracies once we have those other issues sorted out.

Smith County, Texas,

Smith County, Texas, Precinct 23. 8 RP delegates (out ot 19 available), 6 resolutions passed.

All 9 delegates in my precinct are RP supporters

I'm off to the county convention on March 29th!
What happens when the dominate delegates are RP supporters?!
We also passed a resolution to end electronic voting machines and use paper ballots in all Texas GOP elections.

I am a delegate as well. Precinct 31

Precinct 31, Plano, Texas
18 showed up to caucus.
5 for Paul for certain, possibly a few more.
All 18 of us are delegates for the State Senatorial convention at the end of March.

We will be drafting resolutions for this, hopefully change the party.
Cover topics like fiscal responsibility, smaller government, non-interventionist foreign policy, and states rights.
