It has always been assumed that the person who garnered a certain percentage of the delegates is considered the nominee to be officially nominated at the convention.
Therefore, at the convention it is assumed, expected that the delegates will pledge formally "on the floor" the number of delegates committed to candidate a, candidate b, candidate c, etc. Then at a certain point, the pledges for one person reach a critical point and everyone starts cheering and breaking into general pandemonium. The nomination is official. (Well, eh, that is if you are pleased.) Generally everyone acts the good patriot and joins the celebration.
Whatever Ron Paul decides to say tonight, I want him to continue to speak around the country. The revolution is ongoing and vital to restoring our Republic. This is not just about a nominee. Dr. Paul's nomination would be nice, but the movement is indispensable.

There is a drive in many states to unbind their delegates at their state conventions. This is not being pushed by RP people, although RP delegates would support it, but by establishment Republicans that hate McCain. Do not be surprised if his delegate count evaporates between now and September.
