I think many boomers are living in a state of collective denial. I think it might have to do with the fact they are aging. The bubble mentality is comforting to those realizing that their best days are past and their twilight years are in front.
Not of course to the boomers here. But most people take their cues from their peer group, and the fantasy world that technology has enabled replaces the spiritual and familial traditions that helped people face their own mortality.
