Well, most of us here are well informed on how to protect ourselves. But I have been reading some peoples comments on how a "Recession" is not coming.... but everyone here needs to really wake up to what is ahead. Do you understand that the true figures are being hidden from you. All of the major banks that are holding mortgages are only telling you partial truths. They are only writing down losses that have happened...this is just the begging. And if you understand how this mortgage nightmare will affect us all, then you get it...If you don't, you had better learn real fast. In layman terms...this is how it works....
Banks have hedged (Over Extended) themselves on mortgages, just as the borrowers did. They loaned money on houses at a certain price, with little or no money down to back it up in case the asset went down in price. So they loaned somebody $200,000, with only (lets say) $20,000 down. That leaves $180,000 to be financed. Well, now the house has plummeted in value, and the house is only worth $150,000. People owe more than the property is worth. Why would anybody keep paying on a $200,000 asset, that is only worth $150,000, and the value continues to go down. The answer is...THEY WON'T. The $20,000 that they put down is lost, and the balance that they owe is more than the home can be sold for. This is what is happening nationwide at an exponential rate. What stops people from just walking away...NOTHING. How does this affect YOU? You might be in a good situation, just as I am. Low mortgage payment, and locked in a good rate...but wait...it gets bad.
This mortgage crisis is going to destabilize every cities tax base. The homes are being abandoned at record rates. This means house prices in your area are going to fall even that much more, and with no more occupants to these homes, you get more crime, more drug dealings, and "Squatters" which break into the house and live their secretly, making the entire neighborhood even worse. Also, it takes more police to keep up on this problem which costs more money to monitor. Do you see the vicious cycle?
Put all of this together with the Banks going broke, The Fed printing money like crazy to try and stop it, Food and Gas going through the roof, Jobs being lost by the thousands (Fake numbers)......hold on.....
To let you know something about the Job loss figures from yesterday....Did you know that every month, the US has to create 160,000 new jobs to just break even on the jobs report. They are not telling you this. 160,000 new jobs must be created, each month, just to cover the natural "Churn" of jobs in America. Yesterdays figures showed a decline of -63,000 jobs. If you dig into the facts on how jobs are reported, that means that not only were 63,000 jobs lost, but add 160,000 jobs to that figure. So in reality, the true number is 223,000 jobs were not created or lost. The facts that our gov't uses to report to you are very skewed. They downplay the trouble we are in at every angle as to not cause panic.
I am not telling you this to scare you, I just think you need to know what is going on, and get prepared for how bad things are going to get. If you have read this far.....then I want you to take a close look at this article below that lays it out for you. This is the truth. Banks will become insolvent, if they are not already. You need to get the majority of cash out of the bank, if you can even get at it. You also need to be out of all US investments. Switch 401K's, Retirements, Savings, etc, into investments that will allow you to hold onto any wealth that you still have. Commodities are going to double and triple over the next couple of years, and the dollar will continue to crash. Please read this article and understand it...

Does it really say in the newer patriot act that we are not allowed to have more than 2 weeks of food? What the F@c$ man? really? That seems ridiculous.

10999--Federal seizure of all means of transportation, including cars, trucks, or vehicles of any kind and total control over all highways, seaports and water ways;
11000--Federal seizure of American people for work forces under federal supervision, including the splitting up of families if the government so desires;
11001--Federal seizure of all health, education and welfare facilities, both public and private;
11002--Empowers the Postmaster General to register all men, women and children in the United States of America;
11003--Federal seizure of all airports and aircraft;
11004--Federal seizure of all housing and finances and authority to establish Forced Relocation. Authority to designate areas to be abandoned as "unsafe," establish new locations for the populations, relocate communities, build new housing with public funds;
11005--Seizure of all railroads, inland waterways and storage facilities, both public and private;
11051--Provides FEMA complete authorization to put above orders into effect in times of increased international tension of economic or financial crisis (FEMA will be in control in case of "National Emergency").

This EO will be the only thing he needs to enact in order to become a fully empowered dictator. It covers all of the EOs mentioned previously. Anything can be declared a "national emergency" to facilitate EO 12919 being enacted."

Here's reality
Very, very few cities have food enough to last three of four days. They have trucks delivering supplies every day, etc. Keeps things fresh. If there is an event and it stops those trucks or there is some kind of contamination and they will not deliver to an area, ect. Food will be gone within a week or two. There will be panic. The solution is to plan. Have a supply list and cash ready. Get to the store asap if an event happens and purchase your items. Make sure you have some now. It's not paranoia to understand the way products are shipped and stored in this country. They are not unlimitied.

Since I have you all here already I wonder if I might derail this thread ever so slightly and ask you guys a serious question that has been bugging me lately. Guns. They always come up in these threads and I keep wondering why. Why do I need one? Who would I be shooting? Is *that* where we're headed, seriously?
Here's my deal: I don't have a gun. I never felt like I needed one and to be perfectly honest they scare the bejebus outta me. I lost a cousin to an unfortunate gun related accident (read: kids being dumb, playing with a loaded gun) when I was 18 and I have had this 'fear' ever since. Still, I have always maintained that the 2nd amendment is everyone's right and I would fight to keep it, even though it's not something *I* am into personally.
Now I find myself re-examining my own position. So, in essence, I am offering you all the opportunity to "change my mind" on this one. Everything else you guys say makes sense to me so I am very curious about where I stand now, given the gravity of today's situations and where we all think we're headed. I admit to being very confused about the whole issue and humbly ask that someone help me understand this beyond my own small way of thinking on the matter. Thank you. :)
Look at it this way
with regards to your loss due to an accident with a gun. Have you ever lost a loved one or friend to a car accident? Would you forego the use or ownership of automobiles due to this. An argument might be given that a car is required to exist in our society, however seeing the impending dark clouds on our horizon I would say that ownership of a firearm for self protection as well as self sustenance is just as nessecary. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor. Go to some firearms edjucation classes and get yourself a few guns. A 22 caliber, a 12 guage shotgun and a higher caliber rifle would be my suggestion. Ammo will be surely hard to come by soon so you should buy in bulk. Learn to clean and maintain your weapons.
Think of it as insurance...
the same thing as owning a fire extinguisher. You hope to never use it, but it can really come in handy if you need it.. ;) Then think of a major metropolitan area without water, electricity, or food supplies for 30 days. Your neighbor will plug you for that can of spam so his kids can eat. If it does get horrible, you will need the tools to survive the times ahead. If it doesn't get horrible, what have you really lost?
A related thought... if it comes to where you have to shoot something to eat that day, being able to actually do it may make the difference betwen living or not.

it is better to have a gun and not need it. than to need a gun and not have one.
it won't be hard to find someone you who owns a gun and is willing to teach you how to use it. ask them if long before you go shooting they will show you how to fully operate it. this will help reduce your fear of guns.
always treat them as if they are loaded though. no matter how many times you've checked to make sure it was empty it should still be considered a loaded weapon. never point it at anything you aren't willing to kill.
i was 28 when i first shot a weapon. it was in basic training. at first i didn't like it because i was more worried about the drill sergeant getting pissed at me over something than anything else. but now that i'm out of the army i absolutely love shooting.

I did that once, and I agree, it was invigorating to say the least. But as I examined the little green army dude made of plactic whose head I'd just blown off I was actually MORE frightened of that power, not less.

but in the event of something serious happening like an economic collapse or ...or let's say...if the grid went down for whatever reason...in 30 days half of all Americans and Canadians would be dead from lack of services and preparation. Does that tell you anything?
There would be people wanting what you have if you are prepared and they are not and they could be willing to take you for it. Now, thanks to Patriot Act II, it is illegal to keep more than two weeks of food or it is considered hoarding. But water and food and a way to cook could be very important and you have to know how to hide it...
But that is the only reason, imo, for a gun. To protect you from those that don't have. Your neighbor, in a situation like that, could be your best friend or your worst enemy. I don't have one...yet...but I will.

I buy junk silver (pre 1964 coins) from local pawn shops and coin dealers with good prices. Cash. No names. They hand you the stuff..you hand them the money...you walk away and don't tell anyone you have anything.
Then you bury it in a PVC pipe that is capped on both ends so that it cannot be found by metal detectors. :D and you put it 84.2456 paces from your back door to the north north east. (an example to make you smile :D )

I read everyones comments and one thing that has not been talked about is everyone thinks this economy will crash by accident. Is it possible this is all by design? Crash the economy and sign up the north american union and the amero? I have a feeling this is all being done on purpose for some reason, and this is just a distraction. Or am I way off?

The British were training in Leavenworth, Kansas. Anyone here from there? This unprecedented for our military to bring foreign troops here for civil matters.
