HAVING PROBLEMS VIEWING THE SITE? GET FIREFOX! | A NOTE ON ADVERTISING

What do y'all think? Preparedness?

I know people need to stock up on food...but please take into consideration other necesities like antibiotics..Or if you prefer a colliodal silver maker...you can get antibiotics from your local aquarium store...amoxcillian, eryhtomicin, etc in 250mg tablets...they say it's not for human consumption but this is not true...it is the same medication that the doctor prescribes...

Also, take into consideration on stocking up for pets. This was a major reason why some trucks were mobbed in mississippi after the storm...People were looking for dog and cat food.

Okay...

here is a good site for bulk food in the event of a collaspe...Stock up while you can! And don't forget to read the side blogs...Very scary stuff.

P, What are you talking about?

"A local firefighter will 'CPR and Emergency' train us and will certify that he has done so and we will learn something OTHER than put your head down and wait for help... *eye roll*"

CERT training is 18 hours long and is often taught by "local firemen". It's far more involved then "put your head down". So, go ahead and have your "local fireman" teach you CPR.

CERT teaches you how to organize your community, set up treatment centers, CPR, etc. It's free because we already paid for it with tax money. https://www.citizencorps....

What's with the silly "eye roll" crap you posted?

Hey now, I take my sarcasm seriously. :P

OK, so I looked into it, like you suggested, and what I found was a GOVERNMENT PROGRAM...like all other PROGRAM(ED) GOVERMENT doctrines this reeks of "Do this and you'll be fine, but whatever you do, do not think for yourself" When I asked about the completeness of my first aid kit I was TOLD that colloidal silver is a poison that I should NEVER use and that I could "get into a lot of trouble if I were to administer antibiotics from the pet store" Call me a rebel, call me crazy - I don't care - I just won't accept any answers from "they" anymore. "They" have proven to be untrustworthy when it comes to *my* best interests and I DO trust myself to learn emergency care and incorporate that into a real neighborhood plan that my neighbors and I agree is the best, for US. You see, I am trying to be the neighborhood that doesn't need FEMA to rescue them. I am trying to think this one through on my own, with my neighbors. I am into SELF reliance not goverment programming. It's a simple as that.

I DO hear what you are saying, take advantage of what is already there and work it...that seems fine on the surface but really it's just another way to defer responsibilty of the thinking end of it.

Sure fella

The course is taught by LOCAL FIREMEN, ETC" The trainers are from YOUR community, not government spies. They will train you for free. Not secret government FEMA crap. Real CPR and disaster training. 18 hours worth. Try and get your buddy from the fire department to do that. Reinventing the wheel is not wise.

I am a *she* btw

Are you thinking that each local firefighter who does this is working from his own base of knowledge or that *he* designs his own program?

Dig deeper into your own information. This is a program. It matters not whom is the delivery system of said message. It IS FEMA no matter how you slice it.

AND FYI - Matt, the local fireman helping me with this thing, thinks I am doing the right thing by thinking outside the box. So there. :P

Sorry for the double post

:D

Grrr...

.. happened to me last night too. Was a triple post!

Great links and nice comments, Dudes. :)

Wow, guys! There are a lot of people 'with me' here. I like that. Yes, I like it A LOT! :)

It seems to me that silly little freak, Tucker Carlson, tried calling this one way back when, last fall I think. He was on Bill Maher's show and he said he loved Ron Paul and his message but that getting people to go for 'personal responsibilty' was an impossibility - or something to that effect. Self reliance is like personal responsibilty - uber personal responsibilty! Not everyone gets that, I guess. But most of you guys do and that's way better than I'd ever imagined. Rock on. :)

To the CERT advocate dude: I checked into this thoroughly today. All I have to say on the matter is this: :\ .

I am, however, getting a neighborhood emergency planning session together for April. A local firefighter will 'CPR and Emergency' train us and will certify that he has done so and we will learn something OTHER than put your head down and wait for help... *eye roll* But, hey! Thanks for inspiring the idea at least! Seriously. :)

AND FINALLY: To Devon - Good thinking on the livestock choices. I've been wanting a goat or two for some time now. I am all about still having my roasted red pepper and goat cheese pizzas in the *Aftermath* :P

Plus, I've a bit of a 'blackberry problem' (*cough* called: rampant, unchecked growth on two acres :D ) and was thinking that a couple o' dem buggahs might actually enjoy the task that I am dreading. Am I right? or would I need like, a whole FLEET o' goats?

Thanks again, guys. You're all full of win! :)

Lehman's Non-Electric Catalog, www.lehmans.com

For years I have been buying stuff from these folks. They are a major supplier of non-electric tools, utensils, etc., to the Amish in eastern Ohio and PA. They have propane stoves, chemical toilets, oil lamps, and thousands of other cool non-electric things for simple, sustainable, off-the-grid living.

http://www.lehmans.com/

Lehman's Hardware

I've been to their store in Kidron, Ohio - it's fantastic. You just can't believe all the things they have available. You can spend all day there. It's well worth a trip just to see everything. It's right in the middle of Amish country and there is lots to see and do - great for a vacation. Of course, I'm prejudiced because that's where I'm from (now living in Virginia unfortunately).

Oooooo....

thank you thank you thank you!

=)

I have it!

great catalog! Great ideas on this post..Thanks to everyone for replying!

Before the internet

This was one of my favorite things that would come in the mail every year. I literally looked forward to their new annual catalog. Now with the web and online catalogs, it is different, but their printed catalog still holds a certain charm that is not easily replicated on a website.

wood stove

My wood stove was just delivered! I'm so pleased to be able to provide my own heat from now on. Now to get some wood stored and the chimney up. I don't want to be one of the poor souls huddled into the government firehouse in the middle of Winter. I tipped the truck driver (who helped me get it off the truck and roll it into the living room) an old Morgan silver dollar. He was VERY pleased - 'this is the best tip I ever got!'. I said, don't sell it, just keep it for yourself and your family as 'insurance'. He said he would...

If you need...

... anything else delivered to you I might be available.

=P

wish i was that guy ... what

wish i was that guy ... what a tip! worth what 22.00??? nice guy you are!
don't forget to get a big berkey water filter with extra filters... and atleast a years worth of storage food for every member of your family..

It was heavy!

I bought the 'junk' Morgan a couple of months ago for $12. Today they're about $15. I didn't have any cash on me, so...
I'm working on the silver, food, water and security...

Again, Organize CERT training in your

community. Come on , it will be fun!!! It's free. This provides a base and a mindset for survival. There are many free e-manuals online for supplies, etc. Being prepared for a disruption is a big part of self reliance. If you prepare, YOU are another citizen who is not freaking out. You will be able to help your community. A big part of getting through a disaster is acknowledging they sometimes happen.
Well hi there, Mart.

You are correct, having supplies or a list of supplies and some cash available is a very wise thing to have.

Citizens Corps..

... is Department of Homeland Security. They did such a lovely job with Katrina. I'm going to join up with them RIGHT NOW.

I hope they have my sub-dermal digital angel tracking chip ready for me. I'm so excited...

I hope they let me join the Citizen Corps program where you spy and report on your neighbors. I was always jealous of the Soviet Union and China in that respect.

Hi Dave!

=)

citizen corps is nothing

citizen corps is nothing more then a bunch of bullshit! (excuse my french)

CERT is taught be folks already in your community

They are not spies or FBI agents, etc. We have a lead training in our Ron Paul group. So, go ahead and reinvent the wheel. Kind of silly sense there is a program your taxes paid for already in place. If our government had spent more money on teaching self reliance skills. We wouldn't be in this mess. I'm happy to take an 18 hour survival course I already paid for.

Which Ron Paul group? I

Which Ron Paul group? I would like to speak to them about how they do things so it can be replicated in other Ron Paul groups.

Ron Paul groups going through Department of Homeland Security training is a neat idea!

=)

I'm in Iowa

I head up the group in Fountain. Give me a call.

I'll walk you through the steps. It's easy and free.

You do realize..

.. you can cut-and-paste a telephone # into Google and it will look it up. I am contacting the CIA and telling them you are posting their # in chat forums.

I was wondering why it took you so long to respond.

*rolls eyes*

=)

Yeah, that was the joke

clown

Okay..

.. so your sheriff and these meetings are SECRET. Wow! Sounds so intriguing!

=)

Right on bro!

;)

Here comes our local kook

Any black helicopters out today, Mart???? :)

You paid for the CERT program, Skippy. This training is very important and does not require you to be chipped or bow down to the Fed master. The courses are taught by local trainers, etc. A great way to show your community the RP community is ready to help and understands what it takes to have a limited government.

best thing they should do

best thing they should do instead of cert.. is build shelters, stock them with food and have civil defense..... just like they do in china and russia..
they know a nuclear war can be won.. our government leaves us out in the open like sitting ducks!

i guess i'm a kook to!

better safe than sorry

I think it's all fearmongering BS

I hope everyone has their plastic tarps and duct tape.

What if it's raining bombs and Chinese troops kicking doors in eliminating every human over the age of 30? How do you you prepare? How does all that stocking up help you when Katrina II hits Florida, a massive quake plunges CA into the Pacific, Yellowstone blows, Tornado Alley becomes a Tonado Super Alley? How do you prepare for suicide bombers? How do you prepare for the Tule Fog creating a 100 car collusion? How do you prepare for a gang that didn't prepare and has trained military in their group and they've decided what you've got is theirs and you're way outmanned and outgunned? How do you prepare whan all your preperations are destroyed or unreachable when the moment hits? Truth is, YOU are in a struggle for survival everyday. Where ever you go, there you are.

Getting involved with Red Cross, and local organizations, fraternities, community events, where people know you, call you (reach out to you), trust you, depend on you...this is how to survive when calamity strikes, because being KNOWN...having people WANT you and NEED you is going to help you survive much better than when people don't know you.

granger.... just lay down in

granger.... just lay down in the fetal position and wimper... then pretty soon you'll be dead... no problem!

Self-reliance is not the

Self-reliance is not the same as having enough canned goods for two weeks in case of a hurricane.

The majority of the planets people don't have electricity or Wal-Marts.

You go ahead and be depended on the supply-chain. When the people get spooked the stores will be empty in ONE DAY.

One major crisis and the trucks stop rolling and the people will be starving.

Self-reliance was taught by the Founding Fathers as a critical support for national defense.

Not fear-mongering at all... local communities should have the ability, resources and education to feed and care for themselves and they should be doing it on an on-going basis not just in emergencies. Lack of these things make it easier for a tyrant to control his subjects. The Founding Fathers strongly recommended an agrarian society for just this reason.

I lived through Katrina for two weeks in August in 110 degree temperature with no AC. I saw the gas lines 5 miles long. I saw the national guard brought in to suppress looting and people breaking into houses to steal food because they were hungry. I saw the military convoys with manned 50 caliber turret weapons. I know the eldery who died.

Fear-mongering? Whatever...

katrina

taught me a valuable lesson about what was important to people when they have nothing...Sure enough guns and gas were top of the list...Food ,medication, razors, soap, pet food were second...

in New Orleans( where my brother and father was) the Military swooped in and took all guns and ammo from everyone...they searched each person they came in contact with like criminals.

There are hundreds of stories that happened during katrina that would make people scared to death of our government...

They were just..

... trying to help

=|

j/k

I am a Rajin Cajun Cher

My brothers's two story brick house was on international news as a helicopter rescue site for those in Slidell for who had no choice but to swim. My sister-in-law lost her mother and sister who refused to leave their home.

Have you looked up The Grange? Louisiana doesn't have a chapter...I was shocked to learn there was such an fraternity, after all, I graduated from AG school at USL now, ULaLa.

Murphy's Law, "Change happens while you were making other plans".

I guess I prepared the best for Katrina...I moved a long time ago.

best thing to do is MOVE to

best thing to do is MOVE to a part of the country where you don't have hurricanes, or earth quackes! thats what I would do!

My only source of info for

My only source of info for several days after Katrina hit was listening to WWL on a tiny transistor radio from the 1970's.

Local rescuers were turned around at gunpoint by federal officials armed with military grade weapons and told their was nobody to rescue. Hundreds of vehicles with boats laden with supplies of all varieties were lined up off the exit by the Sam's in Metarie ready to bring critical food, water and medicine to stranded people and to begin bringing them out to safety.

Sheriff Harry Lee put the armada together and they could have literally evacuated all the stranded people in a couple of days.

Instead hundreds died. Bastards.

The Granger is sort of right

Create relationships NOW. Set up CERT training in YOUR community. Create teams, etc. This is the foundation of Self-Reliance. Take action NOW.

Having some supplies is very wise. Having a list of supplies you may need and some cash available to buy them, is also very wise.

Use this program. You paid for it!

https://www.citizencorps....

Oh yeah..

... let's all join up with the Department of Homeland Security. They are our friend..

"They" become a lot more friendly when you and your buddies

are sitting next to "them" or "you" are running the joint.

I need help

with a list....

so far i have...

plans for a chicken coop
a greenhouse
guns
ammo
medication
Started going through my change jars to find old silver and copper coins, learning how to bake bread,

but...what do y'all think about buying a cow and having it slaughtered and packed for the freezer...do you think that electricity will be a problem?

Not a cow...

chickens and goats...lol

Eggs and milk for you... both animals are pretty much self-sustaining.

We've not spent a dime on our goats for years, they are good security, feed themselves, etc.

You need 15 acres to raise that cow if you've got grass.

Learning how to bake bread is a great plan. Got tortillias?

What about a dairy cow?

How much land does that require?
