Universal Car Care

idea of having a "Universal Car Care" program here in the U.S.? Whenever you think your car needs some work, you just take it in to a NCCA (National Car Car Administration) office, fill out the necessary paperwork drop off your car and when it's ready, you'll be notified. There would be no cost to you.

I think a lot of support for this idea could be generated by showing how having properly maintained vehicles are more fuel efficient and thereby good for the environment. Also, having cars on the road that are not properly maintained is a threat to our national security... after all car accidents is a leading cause of death.

Of course, some cars are more expensive to maintain, so we would need laws that the auto manufacturers would have to abide by to ensure that maintenance costs are within federally established guidelines. Also, usage would have to be regulated since the poor inner-city population don't need to drive as much as those in the suburbs and it wouldn't be fair to tax them at the same rate.

Seems silly when thinking in terms of car care, but somehow makes sense when thinking in terms of health care. I don't understand why so many people are interested in Hillary's or Obama's plan to expand the quality of health care that native americans and our veterans (that is government managed health care) to everyone. Personally, I like what has happened in areas where health providers have had to be competitve like Lasik eye care, cosmetic surgery, etc. where the quality goes up, the costs come down and your treated like a valuable customer.

I've always preferred a "tailpipe tax"...

to replace personal property tax in states that have it. Have the cost of tags based on emissions. I also feel real estate taxes should be based on the value of unimproved property. Not only is that more fair, it would encourage positive development.

Urban vs. Suburban Driving Issue

Use a sliding scale for mileage to determine cost of maintenance for bookkeeping. This of course would redistribute the tax burden to the middle class, who do most of the driving and would have to pay more into the system to maintain it. The poor would pay next to nothing and yet still have their cars maintained just the same. Viola! Free car care for all!

Kidding aside...

Do a google on OBD-III, the next generation of vehicle on-board diagnostics that is still under development. California wants sensors installed on the highway to detect if your engine light is on so you can be issued a ticket. Nice!

If that day ever comes I'm switching to a motorcycle.

I have no problem letting

I have no problem letting the Universe take care of my health, my car, or anything else for that matter.

However, the US government should maybe try getting the things they are supposed to be doing right before they go trying to take over the job of the Universe.

Although I don't agree with either Hillary or Barack

on Universal Health Care would you concede that an abandoned, broken down car is not quite as tragic as an abandoned broken down person?
I think that overall our communities have stopped being generous for two reasons. First, because government says we must be (via medicare) and second because society has gotten...harder? Jaded? Definitely crueler.
So no, the government shouldn't dictate our moral responsibility. But yes, we should ensure that no one is abandoned because of hard hearts or closed minds.

I completely agree that we

I completely agree that we have a moral responsibility to help those in need. I agree that the health care system we have is totally messed up. We can't even try and save money on treatment since we have no comparison on what the prices are. However, my problem is with the solutions being proposed.

There's tough decisions to be made. If some company comes out with a cure for some terminal condition but it costs a million dollars for the procedure should it be covered? What about $10 million? What about $200 to cure the common cold? To think one centralized agency can make these decisions is ludicrous.

YEAH!!!

WE ALL have a RIGHT to Car Care!!! We must have a car to get to work, it is a BASIC RIGHT! If my brakes fail and I crash into you and kill you, I CANNOT BE BLAMED because I didn't have the money to fix it and yet still had the requirement to drive myself to work. If anything, YOU are responsible for not supporting Universal Car Care and my BASIC RIGHT to transportation. The Government is to blame for not having my car fixed for me when I could not afford it!

Medicar

I have been pushing this for a long time in U.K. Another factor about this most marvelous proposal is that nothing drops neighbourhood property prices as much as an old banger parked in your street. Either have them towed or set fire to them I say. Free government polishing can help fuel efficiency by reducing drag and rusty cars make for a rusty neighbourhood. Vote for preventitive medicar car care and join Neighbourhood Rust Watch today.

Good luck out there &Thank you. It's appreciated'.-fip -U.K
